Bay Muffler is Amazing, When you get to the shop its a little run down, but don't let that scare you away. They do amazing work, and Quick! I brought in my Mercedes for some work, when I got there I asked if they could also see about tucking the exhaust a little further under the car as it was hanging low and sticking out a bit. They said they would try. A little under an hour later the work was done, the exhaust was tucked under the car better, and I was happy. Fast, Friendly, Great work, and Not a big hit to the wallet. I dropped by to get a quote to fix my dangling tail pipe (and rusted muffler). Chris hardly let me walk in the door before he was helping me and he gave me a price that I thought was very reasonable. There was never any hint of trying to sell me more than I needed. I dropped off my Explorer late at night (after they were closed) and early the next morning they called to say it was done. I know my way around under that SUV and can say the the quality of the work was as good as it gets. The welds were smooth--almost like they were done by machine and he aligned everything perfectly. Admittedly it was not the most challenging job, but he did it very well none the less. When I came to pick it up, I asked for a recommendation on getting a smog inspection, and they sent me a couple of doors down to "Quick Smog" (another successful venture), but they suggested that if I had mentioned it earlier, they would have gladly taken it over there for me and had it done before I came to pick it up. That was a thoughtful and personable service to offer ( it was implied the there would not have been any extra charge for that). Bay Muffler doesn't have the polished appearance and spacious waiting room of the chain stores, but I got a good price, top quality work, and fast, friendly, personable service that went beyond the forced courtesy you might find at a chain store. read more

Backed into a curbed and bent my tailpipe pretty badly. Took my van to Lou's Auto Repair (an EXCELLENT and HONEST mechanic) and he recommended that I take it to Bay Muffler, as they're set up to fix my problem right away. I came to them with a failed smog test. They first offered to turn off my "check engine" light to try to pass the smog test without doing any work to try to save me any unnecessary repair. Next option was to do a minimal job - fix the oxygen sensor, which I had them do. Unfortunately, right afterwards, the "check engine" light went back on, and they said it sounds like I needed the other half of the catalytic converter replaced - for $425. I brought my car in to have the work done. They called to say that when they turned on the ignition, the "check engine" light was not on, so they took it over to the smog test for me and it passed. All I owed them was $8.25 for the certificate! I had signed and authorized $425 and they didn't do the unnecessary work. How's that for honest and caring?! read more

I Don't Do Business With Liars I was referred to Chris Walker at Bay Muffler by Paul Jancis at Driven Auto Care to repair an exhaust leak at the manifold/pipe flanges on a 1978 Motor Home, Chev 454, in order to pass a smog test. Chris lied to me, twice, saying that he would do the repair the next day and replace the exhaust flange gaskets, phoning me back with a time to bring it over. The first time I gave him the benefit of the doubt and called him back after several days, only to be told that he again needed time to call me back with an appointment. It's been three weeks now and still no call from Chris. I obviously gave up on this some time ago and made other arrangements, but I suspect that Chris just didn't want to do this job and wasn't honest enough to tell me why - so he chose to waste my time and violate my trust in order to avoid speaking honestly. I think I know why. The attaching manifold pipe flange studs rust and he didn't want to hold this big vehicle in his very limited, virtually non-existent parking area for 24 hours while penetrating oil made it possible to remove the rusted-on nuts without breaking the studs off. If the studs break off the manifold has to be taken off the motor to replace them - where the bolts attaching the manifold to the engine block could also break off - which could create a very costly customer relations problem I think he wanted to avoid. I have had Chris and his wife Jasmine work on my complex Subaru SVX. Transmissions are some of the most dreaded experiences a car owner fears! Chris re-assured me that his shop could handle it and Install an extra trans, that I had on hand. No other shop would put this used transmission in for me, including aftermarket fuel injectors and some other performance parts. The car runs great now and the transmission works GREAT. They do excellent work and don't try to up sell you a lot of repairs. They know what they are doing and are prompt and reliable with their service. They are happy to explain the problems clearly so you know what/why/how your car is being repaired. About a year ago I had a debacle with AAA lying and saying my battery (under warranty with them) was not the problem. Long story short, Bay Muffler spend time examining the car and called back AAA to explain their error (it was indeed a bad battery). After being told by AAA that if I received a bill they MIGHT reimburse me for their error, Bay Muffler said they would not charge me anything for my trouble since I was a customer. Great customer service and super kind and understanding employees/owner! I now take all my auto repair and oil change/tune ups to Bay Muffler and I am so glad I do. They are a great business, honest and knowledgable. I highly recommend them! read more

I've been going to Bay Muffler for a number of years It's one of those old time outfits where the pictures on the wall of the office tell you that they are into cars. You talk to Chris Walker, the proprietor. He does good work and his prices are reasonable. They specialize in mufflers, tune ups and brakes. I was particularly impressed recently when he'd done various work on my car, and when I took it away I found it stalled when I made a right hand turn, but not a left. It took him quite a bit of time and work to find and fix the problem, which turned out to be a be a manufacturing defect in a fuel pump he had already replaced twice, but he stood behind his work. And when my wife's Camry had the engine check light come on, Jasmine who works in the office, came out with diagnostic computer and fixed it. George Heaton Stanford. read more

I needed some header pipe work, and they were very honest about what they could and could not do. Of course I wish they could do more, but my expectations are pretty high. They could do everything they said, so I have no complaints. read more

Gave the shop 7 weeks to complete a job that should of taken a day before giving up. Simply take a 2" V-Band flange and weld a 2" to 2-1/2" straight through adapter to it. The adapter had to be sanded down about an 1/8" for the inside diameter to match the flange. After 3 weeks of not hearing anything back I stopped in and the work was not finished. The excuse was they were waiting for me to stop by to make sure of what I was asking for, to match the inside diameter of both pieces and weld them together. I was then told to give them a couple weeks. When I didn't hear anything back after 4 weeks I stopped by again and the work still wasn't finish. The excuse this time was they were waiting for me to stop by to make sure the pieces were right before welding them together. It turns out I was to blame for the delay because the parts were ready 2 weeks prior. When I asked why they didn't call me they made some really lame excuses, but when I didn't let them off the hook, they got offended and ended up giving me the parts back and told me never to return.
