I had a great experience at Bay Muffler. I already knew what the problem was, just needed a new exhaust hanger welded. The guy doesn't answer the telephone very often as he is shorthanded, so I drove in to set an appointment. He got me in the next day, and my appointment only took 15 minutes. If you need an appointment, just make a trip to talk in person, depending on schedule, he might be able to talk you as a walk-in. I definitely recommend this shop for work. read more

The main owner there is exceptional really helpful and straight to the point. Will be back for all my muffler needs

I incredibly rarely give negative reviews. The guy who "helped" me out was incompetent, rude and apparently had an exceptionally fragile ego. I scheduled an appointment on the 7th for a catback exhaust system install, and when I arrived, he asked me my thoughts and opinions on what could/should be done for install. He expressed doubts that the bolt-on system was in fact bolt on, and when I simply said "my guess is it'll fit correctly", he threw a tantrum and told me to get out. His words, not mine: "I have never seen a system that fits correctly. We're done. Bye bye". He finally pulled my car out, left it in neutral and did not engage the parking brake, causing it to almost roll out of their lot. Very out of the blue, incredibly frustrating and disappointing to have prepped for this to have it canceled for no reason whatsoever. Do not come here if you know anything about cars, you may threaten the mechanics ego and have him cancel on you. 0/10 stars read more

My wife's car needed some attention to the front end suspension and steering components, as she loves this car despite high mileage. Chris was confident that several parts would need to be replaced, but others would be evaluated in real time. Fast forward to the result...the car is now smooth, tracks straight on the highway and goes through the turns with confidence...all for an affordable price. Muffler's are his strong suit, but he can do more than just tail pipes! read more

WOW, just WOW! My Toyota RAV4 lost a bracket off of the catalytic converter. This happened at 4 o'clock in Palo Alto and I was on my way home to Marin... When I showed up at Bay Muffler, I didn't know if my car was save to drive since it was super noisy. The guy (Jerry Garcia lookalike!) could not have been more helpful and kind. The first place I stopped said they could only replace the entire converter and they would have to order it ($$$$) but then referred me to Bay Muffler and he took care of me. Welding repair and I was back on the road by 5:30 pm! Total cost $150. What a great experience and oh yeah, the place is a trip - straight from the sixties. Very grateful. Thank you! read more

When Matt from Sunnyvale Foreign Car Service diagnosed the detonation sounds my car was making as a shot catalytic converter and could not find an OEM one through his sources. Matt sent me to Bay Muffler. The first time trying to find the shop I drove past it and to the parking for Bar Supply company next door. I met Cory and he came over and said he could order the part and have it the NEXT DAY! I came back the next day and sure enough they had the part waiting for me and took out the old catalytic converter which they verified was completely worn out and installed a generic one in my car in about 20 minutes time. This shop reminded me of an place right out of EA Sports Need For Speed episode! All sorts of interesting cars and stories to go with them. Fun talking cars with Chris and Cory! Tell Cory Richard sent you! read more

They will say they can complete a job, accept/cash a check as down payment for the job, then give you one excuse after another about why they can't get it done (over a stretch of several months). I went to another vendor and got the work done within about two weeks. read more

Highly recommend this place! Great customer service and good value. Was really pleased w their work replacing the catalytic converter on my Honda. Gave me a good deal and did the job quickly. They even stayed open late so that I could get my car back that evening. Highly recommend! read more

I needed some custom exhaust work and tidying up quick. The turn around was a couple hours after setting up a good time. Paid a good price for the work. Guy was honest and down to earth. If you just need the work done, this is the place to go. Not a fancy place but a good one for sure. read more

Warm, welcoming. Great interaction for this female who is cautious about interacting with a heavily male dominated industry on a topic I am not an expert on. I came in with a "rattle" thinking I might need a new muffler. The owner just did some welding of loose/cracked items and off I went. Very reasonably priced. The rattle wasn't entirely gone, I brought her back in a week and he did a little more welding free of charge and poof! No more rattle. read more

Chris and Bay Muffler came highly recommended to me on some Audi forums I trust so I went there to get some downpipes installed on my Audi S4. Decided to drive down from the city, leave my car and take the train back to the city to go to work because of the rave reviews I'd gotten (car enthusiasts do strange things). The $400 estimate turned into $700 after they ran into some issues getting some studs out. OK. Unforeseen circumstances. I can live with that. But somehow they managed to make my exhuast tips contact my rear bumper and the exhaust ended up hanging really, really low even though I asked that they try and get it tucked up under the car as well as possible. I was in a hurry so just grabbed the car and went on my business, but then took a closer look after I got home. I called them up and he said they would make things right so I brought my car back for some adjustments to their original work because it wasn't as I asked. They billed me another couple hundred for this "adjustment". I didn't feel like arguing so just paid the bill and made a mental note to not come back or recommend this place to anyone. All in all, not that impressed with the work that was done. On the plus side, a dent appeared on my front fender while in their care which they took care of no problem, so +1 star for taking responsibility otherwise it'd be a 2 star review. read more

I went in with a problem that could have destroyed my Jeep's exhaust manifold. $150 later I left with a custom fix that fits better than OEM. Everyone at the shop was knowledgeable & friendly. read more

We were recommended Bay Muffler by a friend. Now it is our turn to recommend this Shop for being professional, organized, and even nice! We ended up with unclear loose muffler problem, but Chris scheduled service early next day and within an hour or so we were out and good! Pricing was very reasonable - where can you find this nowadays? It is rare, but Bay Muffler have it. Today I am going again to Chris and Bay Muffler - another car, another worry... read more

Have to admit I don't write too many reviews, but for Chris at Bay Muffler, I have to put in my two cents. I have nothing but praise for Chris and his team at Bay Muffler. If you like old school service, that takes pride in their work and the people they work for, this is the place to come. You won't leave unhappy! Glad shops like this are still around for quality services that don't treat you by how many dollar signs they can get out of you. I will be recommending to friends and family. read more

This is probably my third time getting my exhaust serviced by them (I'm lowered). I love the warm welcome from Chris and Cory. I appreciate the classic cars and all the old parts that each have it's part in telling the story of the shop (it's like a museum). And every time I leave after getting something done, I leave knowing that the welding was done well, that the hangars will hold up, and that my car was nurtured. So 5-stars to them! Cheers! read more

Both Chris and Cory are just awesome car guys, quite a rare gem these days. They were knowledgeable and patient, and watching them work was just a treat. I called last minute and needed my muffler replaced right away. I had never been here before but was so pleased with my entire experience. I talked to a guy named Chris and he was so friendly on the phone and in person. He got my muffler fixed and replaced within 24 hrs of making the call. Also he quoted me a price that was half the price of the one I got at Midas in Sunnyvale. I immediately picked up my car from Midas and came straight to Chris. I will forever be loyal to Bay Muffler based on this positive experience! read more

Awesome speedy service with top notch welds! The mounts for my exhaust on my 95 M3 snapped so I brought my car in. Cory took care of me and my car that day. The welds look top notch as stated before and I am very happy with the service I received. Will deffinately be coming again if I need more exhaust work done. It is so difficult to find a shop working so well. I mentally prepared myself to spend a thousand dollars minimum, while the guy there fixed my issue for just 125. He also checked my wheels for free, he said he does not fix them anymore, but he diagnosed the issue and gave recommendations. Again, for free. I would give 6 stars if I could. And he was very friendly with a great sense of humor. read more

Both of the guys working here were very friendly. I came in because one of my cars is too loud for the neighborhood (not for me) and they recommended a resonator instead of robbing power with a muffler. They did the work very quickly and I am very happy with the sound. read more

Chris is a great mechanic who knows what he is doing. I've never had to bring a car back twice for the same reason. After a bad muffler/resonator installation job from another local business, I asked my long time mechanic if he had a recommendation for a good muffler shop? My mechanic recommended Bay Muffler and I am so happy that I took his advice! After making an appointment over the phone, I drove my car to Bay Muffler. Chris and I discussed the exhaust system that I wanted. Chris had to order a glass pack muffler, as he didn't have the correct part in stock. He called the next day to say the muffler had arrived, but we postponed the install for a couple of days because it was raining so hard at the time! On the day of the muffler install, Chris removed all of the previous shop's woeful-work and formed new tubing to install the muffler. Chris also installed the resonator that I had brought to his shop. I drove my car for a few days and felt that the exhaust tone was still too loud. I called Bay Muffler and Cory answered the phone. He told me to bring my car in. Cory welded an additional glass pack muffler into the system. The exhaust tone is now perfect and will no longer attract any unwanted attention! My car is 46-years old. Bay Muffler is the 4th muffler shop that I have patronized over the years of owning the car. Chris installed the best looking exhaust system that my car has ever had! The bends in the tubing are perfect and not squashed in. Chris takes pride in his workmanship! He is friendly and courteous. read more

Needed to get a new muffler for my 86 Acura so I called Bay Muffler in the morning and Cory said they could take care of it after lunch. I had a little trouble finding their shop approaching from the south: they're on the right side of the building facing the street. Cory swapped out the muffler in less than 30 minutes (maybe 20?) as I watched and checked to make sure the resonator didn't have a hole in it. The new muffler was so much quieter! It's great to have such dependable local businesses. read more

Amazing fast and professional work! They're super educated on exhaust in general and do much more! Turned my mini van into a Pontiac GT

My husband stopped in during his lunch hour (2/23/2010) to have a minor exhaust issue looked at. He stepped into the "front office" and found a man, lounging on a couch talking on the phone. The man motioned for him to come in and wait. There was another customer also waiting to speak to the man. After 5 minutes of listening to the man BS with an obvious friend on the phone, while rudely ignoring 2 customers -- my husband gave up in disgust. Guess this guy's business must be booming (not!) for him to boldly ignore 2 customers! Very RUDE!! read more

Chris (and now Cory) have done great work for me at great prices. Recognize that this is not a franchise. Bay Muffler was amazing. My mother's catalytic converter was stolen off her Honda. We took it to the Honda dealership, they were great but quoted over $4k for a OEM catalytic converters but did not have any in stock and the back order date was completely unknown/months. I contacted Bay Muffler and they offered us an after market part that could be ordered and installed in two days at 1/3 the price. The also recommended adding steel rods to slow the thieves down if they tried to steal it again. Since my mother was out of town we were struggling to get the car towed from Honda to Bay Muffler. The team at Bay Muffler offered to handle the logistics for us, and the car was ready on time as promised and quoted. They even walked my mom through how to get reimbursed by her insurance company... a week later my mom had her money back from Allstate. I can confidently recommend Bay Muffler, their price, service and quality of work was amazing! I also felt great supporting a local business that has been in MV for decades! read more
