My friend had her RV in impound, expired tags. She and I and another friend popped in to see how we can get the RV back. Bill took 1/2 hr with us running through scenarios of what he can or cannot accept to end the impound dilemma. Time is money and he offered time. His enormous German Shepard was gracious too. Lol. He became a bit more flexible with our unique financial challenges. We appreciated it. The RV Should be ready for release in a few days. When the conversation got a little heated, Bill stepped back to regroup. After the tough exchange of information was completed, we all won. We all amicably agreed to a group solution. This is not a traditional impound and he was a great sport in trying to meet us half way to resolution. I called this shop due to a cooling sensor issue and fans not shutting down on my 2017 Camaro SS, called them, they responded quick and asked me to bring it the same day, 3 hrs later they took care of the issue and car has not giving me any issues anymore. Call back on another car I have on some lighting cable issue on my headlights for my 2016 Challenger, told me to bring it back the next day. This shop is on it! I have taken my car there without a notice or same day phone call. They say "bring it in" and on multiple occasions had my car on same day or next day. Everyone at the shop that I have experienced has been kind, and Manny (mechanic) is extremely knowledgeable. Everyone hates to deal with car issues, but when it happens you want to have a trustworthy, reliable, and reasonably priced shop to turn to. I know when I take my cars there, I'm going to get elite mechanics, my vehicle returned quickly and decently priced. This has been my experience with this shop for over 5 years. My front windshield was totally obscured by some goo or tree sap and they were able to help me out cheerfully and just nice because it was actually kind of scary driving. Went here for a smog check. I phoned in the late morning and got a same day appointment. The gal gave me the price for the smog check over the phone. I arrived a little early for my appointment. Everyone was extremely polite and nice. The car was taken in for the smog check right on time and I was in and out in 30 minutes. I had an "emergency" situation with a broken radiator hose. This business was exceptional from start to finish, including my initial phone call when I frantically called needed directions. The place is clean, friendly, and professional. Even though I had no appointment and they were very busy, they worked me in (after the 1.5 hours it took for my car to cool down!), fixed the problem and sent me on my way. MV Radiator is still a great shop. However, they moved a couple years back, they're busier now, and they have more on their plate than ever before. It's sometimes a lot of hoops to jump through, with the front desk, even to get an appointment for something like a routine oil change. Manny and his crew are always as accommodating as can be, but they now have a receptionist in the office who answers phones and coordinates their calendar - and she can be a bit difficult to deal with. I respect the fact that she's got a lot of demands on her time, and she's just trying to do her job. Still, I find recently between the receptionist, and the actual mechanics, I'm often told different things. "You can come in and leave your car; they'll call you," "We do first-come-first-serve service on the weekends; no appointments available," "You'll need to use Uber...we don't give complimentary rides," By the way, if any of these situations are actually the case, I will happily work something out. Trouble is, once you get a shop guy on the phone, the story starts changing a little...so it can be hard to know what policies are truly in place. All that said, once you're in, you're in: and it's still a great quality place. read more

Like Bud-da! Made an appointment to have my suv inspected, repaired & smogged. I showed them the diagnostics & repairs from my car's make dealership that attempted to fix it. The dealership sent me home with a worse running engine & a reoccurring check engine light, 3x's! I spent over $250 in diagnosis fees, over $900 in repairs and was issued a free rental car after the light came back on upon 2nd delivery when they reversed the input/output lines on my EGR unit & tore the gasket upon diagnostic. #cardealerCrAYcRaY! Dropped off my suv to Mountain View Radiator's & not only was my vehicle's EGR assembly fixed, but it passed smog all in 1 visit! They fixed the reversed lines, replaced the gasket & was an honest price. What a shocking difference! Thanks so much! Just got my DMV stickers! :D read more

UPDATE: NEVER had a problem with the water pump.!! How many months later? This is the important thing to underscore. This place quickly made a VERY costly repair estimate (when you replace the water pump, you also have to replace the timing belt, etc.--and pay almost a full-day's labor), AND THEY WERE WRONG! My engine light was on and the mechanic I took it to said that nothing was wrong with my vehicle but I needed to get it reprogrammed which appears to be a specialized service, so he recommend I contact Mountain View Radiator. I called that same day and Manny asked me to bring to car by to check real quick so he could put in a request to get the info needed to reprogram my car. I scheduled a date to bring my vehicle back for the actual reprogramming which is estimated to take a few hours. Service was quick and things have moved smoothly so far, not much more you can ask for. They also have the option for folks to do after hours drop off. They apparently operate 5 different businesses, including the well rated Bills bbq out front - a good landmark to help you know where to turn right since it's a bright red food truck. I do wish that the bbq place in front opened earlier so I could have rewarded myself for my early car drop off! read more

Went there to check for oil leak 2 hrs before it closes and the guy told me he can't check it and to come the next day. Arrived next day 15 minutes before lunch and the same guy told me to come back an hour later because he has to take lunch. He could have told me to leave the car there at least. What a lack of consideration for customer's time and satisfaction, thinking Someone would return after repeatedly turning them away. Never going there again. Very unprofessional behavior. read more

I went here today because my car is having a problem of water leaking under the hood. I took it here, talked to the older man with the 9 day beard in the office. He seemed quite taken by me but then again I don't blame him for that cuz I am looking fly now a days, but anyway I talked to this guy for a few minutes about my car. I asked him if my car could be checked out. He yell out to someone in the garage and then told me to go ahead an pull my car in. So I pulled my car in and parked in front of a laying German Shepherd that made no attempt to move from where he was laying out in front of the shop car bays. While I was pulling my car in the 9 day beard man came out and was talking to a younger man that looked very much like him. My guess is they are father and son. Manuel came over introduced himself, opened the hood took the slightest look and told me it is the engine gasket. He began telling me that the whole engine needed to be taken apart and so on and so forth. I asked him how much it was going to cost and he told me $1100. Then he threw in there some sort of my car needing a maintenance tune up. He told me he would do the whole thing for $1500 and put me up in a rental car for two days. Come on Mountain View Radiator I know I'm fly as f**k and I look like big $$$ but I actually don't have big $$$. I was down the street at Midas before stopping over at your fat shop. I'll go back to Midas because at least they seem more honest then you guys. Midas told me over there its probably the water pump, a sensor or the thermostat but they wouldn't know until they tested it out. And the guy at Midas actually got under the hood and took a good hard look all around the engine. Over at you guys-es place big fat Manuel just lifted the hood, looked, didn't even bend over to get a good look, and then gave me a price almost as fat as his a$$. I bet if I would have showed up with my 6'2" boyfriend you wouldn't have tried to play me. NO THANK YOU MOUNTAIN VIEW RADIATOR! YOU GUYS SEEM TO BE RIP OFF CHEATERS! THIS PLACE ROCKS!!! A+++++ Customer service!!! Most car repair shops could learn a thing or two from these guys! I am soo very happy that AAA referred me to these guys when my car wouldn't start last week at work. When my car was being towed, I called this shop to confirm if I could bring my car by now. I was kindly greeted and talked to by a very nice person on the other line that spoke to me very respectfully and polite. It sort of took me back because when I have dealt with auto shops in the past, the person on the other line is usually very gruff and short with me. When I arrived, they were happy to see me and everyone from the shop came out to help the AAA push my car into their parking lot. The guys working here are soooo nice! They are a father and sons operation and from the beginning I felt that they were being completely honest with me and not trying to milk me for all my money. Due to the holiday last week, they informed me that my car would probably not be ready until next week and I was fine with that. While waiting one of the sons took my information and was nice about making small talk with me. They also have a dog there named Nemo that hangs out at the shop and greets the customers. Nemo is adorable! I didn't have a ride back to work after dropping off my car and they asked me if they could give me a ride....no hassle! Tim got his car out and drove me the 2 miles to work and talked my ear off about his Thanksgiving plans and his band. It was really awesome...I felt completely comfortable with this stranger driving me to work. Bill (the Dad and owner) called me several times to explain the situation and again was very cordial and personable. I had told him prior that I was going camping for Thanksgiving weekend and when he called me he asked me how my trip was and we made small talk. It was really nice! He also asked me on Monday morning if I needed a ride to work and offered to come pick me up...Wow! I declined and told him I had my husband's car but I thought it was pretty awesome of him! So to end this review, the repairs were done, they didn't bullshit me on anything and they handled the job very well! Come to find out I needed all of my keys to be re-coded and a new battery. They also suggested a few other things that needed to be repaired in the near future. Charges were not an arm and a leg like I thought they would be and because I am a Yelper, they gave me the 15% discount like they posted here on Yelp with no problem! They saved me $60!!! Yes I would be back and I highly recommend them to anyone! The great thing is that they are so convenient to my work right on El Camino and Castro. Great people....honest auto guys are hard to come by....you will find your lifetime mechanic at this shop! I love these guys!!! And because of them, my little VW Beetle will remain in my life for a while longer. read more

I took my car in to have an A/C problem fixed. It took two trips to resolve -- when I picked up my car after hours the first time, I still had no A/C. This was after they charged me a half hour of labor to unscrew and re-screw a sensor (a less than 5 minute job when I did it myself.) When I brought the car back later in the week, they ignored that it hadn't been fixed the first time and I got no credit for the "work" that'd already been done. In all, I feel I paid about 50% more than I should have for the repair. And I didn't get the 5% yelp discount mentioned above, either -- despite asking for it. Why, 2 stars? Because once they figured out what was wrong, my car was fixed. I don't expect I'll be a repeat customer. read more

Excellent service!!! Best there is!!! It's hard to find an honest mechanic, but when you do you stick with them for life. Mountain View Radiator is that place. I've been gong to MVR for years now. I originally went to MVR years ago to get my drivers seat welded back into place (as I have an older car). I had several bids, and MVR was one of the lowest. They didn't do the welding themselves but sent it out to have the work done. Well, just 1 month later it broke again. They sent it back to get it repaired again (for free). It broke again about 9 months later. Well, they ended up sending it out again to different shop, again for free. They stand behind their work!!! I've been a loyal customer ever since and they do excellent work. I stopped by today to get something small checked out, they fixed it for me on the spot, FREE of charge. These guys are great!! Their prices are reasonable and they do excellent work!! read more

A nice family business that the dad and son both work at (along with others of course). I went there once for a checkup after buying a new car to see what (if anything) needed to be done. They told me nothing was necessary to be done, but gave me a list of things that could be done if I wanted. No pressure. A few months later I went back and replaced my failing battery with them when I had problems with my car not starting in the morning. A few months later I went in to fix a broken tail light, and they were awesome. The son remembered me by this point, and replaced the taillight for no charge. (no labor, no parts!). I don't know if I was special or if they make it a habit of treating customers this great. Definitely a great way to build up trust with your customers (who are wary of auto shops that exaggerate repairs), and I'd definitely take my car back here in the future. It's too bad I moved up to San Francisco, as it means this auto shop is that much further away... read more

Amazing service! Friendly and honest staff. I brought my car here when my car broke down back in September. I knew my car was not in good shape since my engine wouldn't turn on, and wanted to find out if the repair was worth it or I should just give up on my car. They told me that they needed to take apart some parts in order to test what was wrong, and then they could give me an estimate. Already worn out from inconvenience, stress, and towing costs, I debated whether I wanted to pay more to have them tell me that my car was not repairable. But I figured I had no choice so I agreed to the service. After a couple hours, I got the bad news that the repair would cost more than the car's worth and my car was doomed :'( Manny (or Greg, they were both great) waved the service cost because he felt sorry about my loss. I gave them a good tip in return. I felt like they genuinely cared about customers and their cars rather than trying to squeeze money out of people. Being a girl, I probably look like someone who has no clue about cars, so I hate it when people try to take advantage over that. I really appreciated their honesty and kindness. read more

I found a mechanic!! That's like finding a good doctor...it's a big deal. My family always went to the same guy - who ended up becoming a family friend - so I'm really picky about my mechanics. Ever since moving to California, I've had a hard time finding someone trustworthy, but Manny and the guys at MV Radiator are perfect. I need a LOT of work done on my car: new brakes, new tires, new belts, A/C service, etc. I took my car to 4 different places, with MV Radiator being the last. Not only did he beat the prices, but he was laid back and didn't pressure me into doing other services (or doing it all at once, which I can't afford right now). When he gave me the break-down of all the prices, I decided I could only afford brakes and tires at the moment, he said no problem and told me to drop it off. It was ready the day I dropped it off...couldn't believe that. The tires were a good deal and the brakes work like a charm. Perhaps what I like most about these guys is when my fiancee needed work on her old car, Manny told her "you know, it's just not worth the money - I'll charge you more than the car is worth, I don't want you to pay for something you shouldn't do". So she ended up selling her car and getting a new one, which WAS the best option. Not all mechanics will turn down the chance to make $1,000 or so. She really appreciated his honesty. And he ended up getting my business because of that honesty. The guys there are really friendly, personable and shake your hand when you leave. I'll be going back next month to get some more work done...I look forward to working with these guys for a while. read more

I received some of the most amazing customer service I've ever had here. When my car started overheating on the road near them, I called them up and said, "My car is overheating--I'm bringing it in, but I won't make it before you guys close. Can I just leave the keys?" But instead, Bill just waited around for me to show up, even though it was past their closing time. Then, he drove me home himself in his truck. The next day they called me promptly and told me exactly what was wrong with the car, and gave me a great breakdown of the costs, all of which sounded reasonable. However, the car needed a lot of work, so I couldn't afford it all. You break down somewhere, they will get a tow truck out to you to be picked up. The rate is cheap for a local tow (50) if you have it towed to the shop to get you car fixed. My car was having problems right before I was due to take it on a long camping trip, so I had to find a garage nearby which was open on a Saturday (surprisingly, a lot of them are closed during the weekend). I found MVR on Yelp, gave them a call, and Manny answered all my questions and said to bring the car right in. When I went there, he immediately took a look at it, ran some tests, and did some work. He was friendly, professional, and quick. And when he was done, he said I didn't need the work he had quoted to me earlier on the phone and that there would be no charge at all! How nice to hear, especially since I don't know much about cars and he could have easily offered to do unnecessary work or overcharged me. But even setting aside the "free" aspect, I enjoyed the interaction and appreciated that Manny was honest, patient and pleasant, without coming across as condescending. I went today to Mountain View Radiator upon recommendation from another repair place who would not touch my car. They said they did not handle electrical problems. So, they claim! $$ I got a fix it ticket for no license plate lights. I was pretty freaked out, because it was due that day. I did not want shell out a lot of money for a minor problem that I suspected. I pulled up and Bill was on it within minutes and suspect the bad fuse problem in minutes. It was fixed in 15 minutes. He never charge me for labor. I was so happy! I got a good vibe that he was really straight-forward honest guy. I didn't feel like I was a walking dollar sign, especially for being a woman with limited car mechanics knowledge. I would feel good about returning back with future business base on this vibe. No dreaded feeling like the one you get when you go to PEP Boys. He had a grip on his mechanics and biz in general. Another Plus: Close to Castro Street in Mountain View. You can just leave your car and get a bite to eat on Castro, stroll through the bookstores or get your nails done. Convenient location if you don't have someone to take you home or don't want to burden someone with rides. They do all aspects of car repairs besides radiator repairs.
