The so-called experts. I called the shop and spoke with the manager or owner. I told him my 2001 BMW 750 IL was stuck in "safe mode" and kept stalling. After listening to him ramble on for 10 minutes about how great his crew was at repairing Bimmers I opted to have it towed to his shop at my own expense ($100). He calls me the next day and tells me there is nothing he can do for me and for me to please come pick up my car out of his shop. $100 tow fee and one day wasted.Off the advice of a friend I had the car towed to Robel and Sons out in Williamsburg. Turns out this shop was employed with REAL MECHANICS. The 750il was diagnosed, fully repaired, and back on the road within 7 days. I commend Bay Diagnostic for having the humility to admit early in the game that they were out of their depth with my car. However as a shop if your going to claim your an expert in servicing European cars you better be able to walk the walk. Otherwise your no different from the other 10,000 repair shops in the area. Needed a pre-purchase inspection for a Subaru Forester and they told me it'll take over an hour. I thought it might be a little long but Jordan the owner told me he wanted to do a thorough job. Within minutes they found some big issues with the car and instead of going through with the rest of the inspection and charging me full price, he called me right away and told me the issues to save me money. (Unlike other mechanics who will breeze through the remainder of the inspection and still charge full price.) These guys are skilled, honest, and prompt. I'll definitely go back again. read more

Was looking to buy a used car in the area and Bay agreed to give the car a full checkup beforehand to let me know of any issues. They took a while, which was fine, but the mechanic who gave me the diagnosis was very short with me. Then when I was negotiating with the seller after the diagnosis the mechanic kept interjecting saying IF YOU WANT A PERFECT CAR DONT BUY A USED CAR, which did wonders for my attempts to get the sellers price down. Took it to a different mechanic to get the things Bay found fixed and this mechanic didn't find that the oil or coolant was leaking at all like Bay Diagnostics said it was. Oh, Bay Diagnostics also neglected to tell me that the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON DURING THEIR INSPECTION. Turns out I needed a new oxygen sensor which was necessary because I have to pass emissions to get this vehicle registered. Guys has taken 160 bucks just to confirm that my car had a problem which was indicated by the message on dashboard. It took for them a day. To fix it they've asked another 400. And they have stated that my warranty doesn't cover the case. I came to Audi dealer. In 1.5 hour, they have fixed it for free, there was no need to change the detail. read more

Auto repairs revolve around honesty and workmanship. This shop lacks both. Don't let the spotlessly clean shop and waiting area fool you or the very pleasant personalities of the 'main man' and his 'sidekick'. Behind their niceties, you will find deceit. --What you need to watch out for most is the cheap replacement parts they use. If you replace a part with them, chances are in a few months you'll be back in the shop for a replacement of the same part again. That's because they use cheap stuff. You will find virtually no OEM parts on your car. I was a long term customer until I discovered that they were billing me for parts not installed and labor charges for work not performed. How did I find this out ... Like this. I took my car to them for general and needed repair work. They gave me an estimate that was high, but I said OK. When I picked up the car, I noted that the brakes were squeaking. I took the car back there several times with no satisfaction. After three return trips, I was told by the owner, Jordan, you'll have to live with the squeaking. I thought w t f is this guy talking about. I took my car to the dealer who examined the brakes I had paid to Bay and compared the bills to the work performed. There were significant differences. They were billing me for new parts they never installed. With the brake issues, the dealer simply told me they did not use OEM parts and therefore these breaks will never work properly. Later on, I found out that they are not in any way shape or form trained on my vehicle, which is a foreign make. They made some other repairs to the vehicle that the dealership stated has the possibility to create safety issues. I'd been their customer for over 20 years and although I had sometimes thought I was being ripped off, there is something to be said about the convenience of their shop for me, and yes, the appearance does make a difference, yes Jordan and Alan are very personable, but alas, they turned out to be thieves. Thieves in clean clothes in a clean shop! I no longer take my car there. And in since leaving that shop, I have learned by actually speaking with their former customers, that other people were similarly ripped off as I was. What get's me, is that these mf'ers then talked about me as though I was the bad guy. Don't be fooled by big talk, the clean, shop, mechanics that seem to be on board and above all don't be fooled by the 'radio talk show' Jordan is or was previously involved/on with. If all the people he knows, knew of his rip offs tactics, he'd have a less filled shop. Sadly, after so many years of using them, I found myself in a position of having to let them know that they'd used me and my wallet for years. Caught in the act of auto repair / parts thievery against a 20 year customer who never balked at the cost of a repair cost them my business and they should drop their faces in shame. But that is hardly their style. They will continued to help you with your auto at your expense and above. read more

I brought my old Camry (2004) in for a full checkup since my wife is starting a job about 25 miles away from home and will have a fairly long commute. It was determined that it would cost about 4k to fix all of the essential issues which is probably two times the value of the actual car. we decided not to repair the car given the costs to repair relative to the actual car value (wife will commute with the new minivan we bought a month ago). I asked how much the diagnostics / lift work would cost.....and was told zero...nothing...zilch. I don't know why they didn't charge me but I am very grateful and will use their services going forward. read more

I came to the auto shop this morning with loose wires dangling underneath my car which had been scraping the streets as I drive. Immediately about half hour later, the shop had called and said my car had been fixed with the wires all patched up and good to go. And the best part? The repair was FREE! Bay Diagnostic is incredible! When I first called, it was to schedule an appointment to have a used car (a Lexus) checked out before I bought it. I spoke with the owner, who offered me advice on how to evaluate both the car and the dealer, and said he could accommodate my needs at any point that day or the next in regards to the inspection. I ended up liking the car and drove with the dealer to the shop. When we arrived, a mechanic immediately drove the car, then put it up on the lift to check it out. The owner came into the waiting room and asked me to step into the shop to look at the car with him. He showed me the undercarriage (which was essentially rotting away) and told me I absolutely should not buy the car. I was disappointed, of course, but so appreciative that the owner was not only up-front with me, but then didn't even charge me for the visit!!! Ok so I read alot of reviews in my local area and always saw 4-5 stars on this location. My battery was going bad on my BMW 528xi. I knew the dealer was gonna run about $500-$600 so i went to Bay instead. From the time i walked in the door i was greeted with friendly service and they made me feel comfortable right away. Immaculate inside. They even took off the ice from the car before driving it in so the shop stayed clean. You figure changing and coding a battery is easy enough for them but no Nicky went the extra mile. It may seem small but on his own checked the rest of my electrical syetms, brakes and found the alternator was fluctuating. He pulled me over to the car and showed me. He told me it may not fail immediately but at some point it will. I told him it was still under warrenty and sure enough the dealer confirmed that. Dealer just got back to me and agreed the alternator needs replacing. Its on back order for 2 weeks. This will save me money and possibly breaking down and stuck on the side of the road.There was no reason for him to perform the extra checks but he did. I will definitly return. Had a really interesting experience here. I agree with other reviews I've read that they are very friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable. I took my car in for test and diagnosis, and after returning home, felt I was overcharged. I emailed Jordan, he wrote back and said he'd give me a refund. And he did. A complete refund, which isn't even what I requested. And he did it with a sincere (or incredibly well acted and convincing) smile. I actually felt uncomfortable about it as I didn't even request a total refund, and a day after getting my money back went back to give him half of the refund in cash. In a really respectful and friendly manner he refused to take it. It wasn't a huge amount of money, but I don't have a huge amount money, so yeah... I appreciated his gesture, and left with a really good impression of these guys. I believe this is part of the reason he's in business as long as he is. read more

I just had Bay Diagnostics handle scheduled maintenance plus a spark plug change on my 2006 Cayman S, after using another non-dealer provider last year and dealer servicing in all prior years. I have to say I was greatly surprised with their clarity on pricing over the phone and how they handled the possible service options. On a net cost basis, they were just under 1/3 the cost of my dealer, and about 50% less than the cost of the least expensive quote from a Porsche dealer in the area (on Long Island). Allen and Jordan of Bay didn't try to push any services on me, but recommended an inspect-and-see approach on possible service options I raised. By contrast, the non-dealer Porsche specialist I used last year was much more aggressive in their service recommendations and hard to pin down on the likely final cost when I queried them this year (had an unpleasant surprise on picking up my car last year). While Bay offered pick up and delivery service, I definitely wanted to see their work site before turning over my car to them. I dropped off my car at Bay in the morning and picked it up at the end of the day. The results were as good as the customer service over the phone. They only performed requested and agreed upon services, advising me during the day that other things we discussed were not needed at this time (which P. dealers I contacted suggested may not be needed as well, although my previous non-dealer service provider pushed). In addition, without me calling it to their attention, Bay noticed that my license plate frame was not affixed properly and reattached it for no charge (finally on straight after five years and a couple of attempts on my part). Lastly, most unusual of all, the price was the same as quoted up front, a wonder! So I am going with five stars for the service I received. Nothing left to be desired. read more
