Wow, Scott was amazing. I have an old HP 3200 LaserJet that's last me over 10 years. I initially wanted to know if it was worth it to replace it. Scott had exceptional carnal knowledge of thing. He explained that it uses the gravity fed system that is notorious for causing double feeds - so any repairs he does wouldn't be able to fix that (at least in the price range we were discussing.) He then proceeded to give me some recommended products to look for that have a historically good reliability rate; and suggested I look for them on the open market! Today I called this business because I needed to get my printer fixed, it had a problem with the paper jamming inside of it, the man on the phone told me it would cost me for him to come to my house but wouldn't cost me anything if I brought my printer to his shop, he told me he would let me know what was wrong with it and if there was anything he could do and if there wasn't then there would be no charge. It is only 3 miles from my house so I took my printer to this place, where I met Harris and he was the owner of the business, great guy. He took me in his workshop and he checked out my printer, he didn't try any sneaky moves or anything, he simply plugged the printer in and cleaned it up with a spray and towel, and then put paper into the feeder, it worked fine, and then let me know that if there was another issue in the future, it wasn't worth fixing it and to just buy a new one. I insisted on paying him for his help, but he rejected it, instead he took his time to explain and show me all the printers he had around and then asked my needs in a printer and he recommended the best to me, I was super satisfied with his service and his humanity. This is a place with unbelievable customer service. I was having trouble with my HP CM1312 multi-function printer. It stopped working after there was a paper jam and even after clearing the paper jam, checking and re-checking to see if there was anything else stuck in there, restoring to factory settings and turning on and off several times the paper jam message was still there preventing me from printing and accepting incoming faxes. Such a frustrating thing to deal with on a Friday afternoon as we're wrapping up the week. I called place after place and 3 different places located in Sunnyvale and San Jose quoted me over $120 just to look at the machine. I figured I might as well find a place with good reviews if I was to spend that amount and I came across this place. I called in and I explained what was wrong with it and he walked me through the steps to fix it with no charge! It turns out that the little thing that pulls the paper up might have had a piece of dust on it causing the sensor to be blocked and all I had to do was jiggle it around a couple times! To think I almost spend over $100 plus paying for parts I really didn't need over a small dust particle. He didn't try to sales pitch me into taking it in or having him send someone out. In fact he told me he would be mad too if he had to spend that amount on such a small printer. Amazing. Really, really lucky I found this place. I brought it in, and the technician very quickly and efficiently pulled a stone out of my printer (where I had obviously inadvertently dropped it several weeks before) and didn't even charge me! Did not buy a service; just called about my HP 8500 910A which was giving a phantom paper jam message. Going to have to trash the printer and get a new one but he gave some recommendations on an HP officejet pro x series - said that most printers are only meant to last a couple years and HP does not provide replacement parts. Also suggested that next time I make sure there are parts or call them before messing with the printer (which I did). Great service. read more

I called PDS today because the scanner was no longer working on my aging Brother MFC-8440 laser printer. It could still do anything that did not need the scanner, but no copying, no scanning, and no sending faxes. I called BPD and he was honest -- he told me what it would take to fix, what it would cost, and that his advice would be to not do it. The printer was old enough that it would not be economical to fix -- he would do it if I insisted, but he thought it a bad idea. Fixing it would cost more than replacing it with a used one with a warranty. So I asked his advice and we talked about what I actually need in a printer. Now I have a nice new printer at half the normal retail (HP is getting rid of them cheaply) that will do more than my old setup would. I have been working with it since picking it up this afternoon and so far am quite happy with it. BPD is a refreshingly honest place to deal with, and free with their good advice. He even advised me to compare on line before buying from him. (I found Amazon was $9 cheaper -- I'd rather get the immediate delivery and a local person to fall back on if needed.) read more

Harris, the owner of Bay Area Printer is amazing!!! He's one of those rare gems you find that bends over backwards to help his customers. I had a scrappy Samsung printer that really should have been tossed in the trash, but because I had many dollars worth of toner on hand I really wanted to try and fix it. Harris graciously offered to help in whatever way he could but wasn't hopeful it could be fixed. Then low and behold I got a call that they were able to fix it. He's just the nicest guy - someone you could go have a beer with. The next time I need my printer repaired or need to buy a new printer, I'll be going to see Harris. He's like a good mechanic.
