Barwachi is a chain restaurant even though there are only 3-4 of them and they are in different cities. It feels nothing like a chain. It still feels like a privately owned family restaurant and there is a family running it. I was told by many of my Indian friends that the restaurant is great but to expect Indian level spice. However, when we arrived as a group of non-Indian diners, they played it too easy on us even though several people at the table requested the food to be properly spiced.The food was great, but we hope in future that they will let us decide how much we can handle for ourselves. We have been craving Indian food and decided to try this place tonight through grubhub. It was fantastic! We just ordered chicken tiki marsala, aloo gobi and garlic naan. We really enjoyed all of it-the sauces were wonderful and flavorful. If I had to nitpick...the chicken in the tiki marsala was a little over cooked and tough but the sauce made up for it and the rice was bland. Neither would detour us from ordering again. Prices are average for entrees (unfortunately through grub hub fees it was almost 30-40% marked up but grub hub convenience fees and no fault of the restaurant. If we weren't being lazy and picked it up ourselves that would have been avoided. So far this is the best Indian meal we have had for the value in that general radius of town. read more

Mysore Bonda, Mirchi Bajji and Tea. These were the 3 items we ordered since we had to drive back for 4 hrs we placed order for to go. I didn't checked the reviews as the name was familiar. But it was the opposite. The Mirchi bajjis they were tasteless. There was no salt, no spice at all. They didn't even have the order with some sliced onions, lemon or chaat masala sprinkled. The flour used didn't seemed besan but instead corn flour I guess. They basically dipped the green peppers in plain flour without even salt and gave it to us. I was very disappointed. Will give just 1 star to Mirchi bajjis. The name ' Bawarchi' had been not satisfied. Second comes to tea. We placed order for Masala tea from the menu , but they said they don't have it. So we went for plain tea - and don't ask me about it- they used milk powder instead of milk. It was just like hot water. 1 star for tea as well. And lastly comes the Mysore Bonda. This was little better than the above two. But not the best. I will give a 2.5 for Mysore Bonda. My suggestion - people visiting St. Louis please don't go for the name for any restaurant. We went to bawarchi after my father and I discovered that the Steak and Shake nearby had closed down and we were still craving red meat so we decided to go to bawarchi. The ambience and the service were average. However, the biryani wasn't good at all. We got the Hyderabadi Mutton biryani and the biryani smelt bad, tasted bad and did not sit well at all. I felt sick the day after too. The only redeeming thing was the curry that goes on top of the biryani. Their curry is delicious. My dad however told me that he had much better experiences with this restaurant. But because I had a bad experience, my review is just as harsh. read more

We ordered mild dishes and they were way too spicy; mine was almost inedible. The sweet Lassi here has a very strange aftertaste and not very pleasant or tasty at all (even the mango). Bawachi was our go to restaurant when it started few years back, would go there 2-3 times a month or more as it had good food( both North and South Indian dishes). In past 6 months I see lot of change in quality and taste. North Indian dishes are hit and miss, good at time and not at all up to mark other times. I have never written a bad restaurant review in my life and often love giving restaurants/small businesses a lot of grace especially in the age of Covid, but the business ethics of this place is completely unacceptable. My credit card was overcharged. When I found out about the issue, I immediately reached out to the restaurant via their website. No response. I called and spoke to someone over the phone (twice) providing all documentation to look up the transaction to rectify the situation and begged to speak with a manager who could assist me...long story short, this went nowhere. It was not a terribly large sum that was overcharged, but it is the principle of the matter--it is wrong to take money from people without authorization and then refuse to work with them to give back their money (a version of stealing some could argue). A person should never have to worry about getting their money taken from them when visiting a restaurant. I'd urge others to think twice before going here or remain hyper vigilant when giving this restaurant your credit card information. You will likely not get the money back. read more
