There is something super summery about enjoying some Andy's frozen custard on a warm, still-sunny-at-8pm, evening. We kicked off a summer tradition with a quick drive through trip on a Monday evening. We loved the summer ambience! Service was promptly provided by a friendly young man taking orders ahead of the drive thru window. Even with about 6 cars in like, we found ourselves at the window in about 5 minutes with our three items ready to pickup. That was fast! Our orders consisted of a Bootdaddy and a couple Snowmonster concretes. No one shared (ha), so I can only comment on my Snowmonster. This place is always crowded at night but the line moves pretty quick. They have many toppings to choose from and the custard taste great. I keep forgetting to take pics of the ice cream because we eat then as soon as they are handed to us lol. How can you not? Every season, they bring back seasonal flavors. Displayed prominently is a menu featuring a wide selection of concretes and soft-serve ice cream, including set options and the ability to customize one's own order with mix-ins. It took me a few minutes just to familiarize myself with the menu. Now that I think about it, and given how robust the website is, I probably should have gone online beforehand. Seasonal treats are featured on a limited-time basis so are a must-try. The summertime menu includes a key-lime concrete--vanilla custard blended with a slice of key-lime pie. I am partial to cookie-dough as an add-in, as I had a Ben & Jerry's chocolate chip cookie dough monkey on my back for a while. The cookie dough is soft and tastes homemade, as in it doesn't have the hard chocolately pieces like little landmines that are often scattered about in the mass-produced variety. I get the same thing mostly every time I go and one of the elements is always missing which sucks because you pay extra for the addition of some of the toppings. Last night I went with my boyfriend and we both basically paid 8 bucks for a cup of chocolate ice cream when we were suppose so to have concretes loaded with toppings. I tried Andy's for the first time this year. I wanted some ice cream without having to drive to Ted Drewes. This Andy's is right off Manchester Road. To get in you will have to go down Manchester a little bit to the entrance of the plaza. I went through the drive thru on both occasions as it was cold outside. The two flavors I have tried are the James Brownie Funky Jackhammer and the Snowmonster Concrete. Although I enjoyed both, I preferred the Snowmonster Concrete over the James Brownie Funky Jackhammer, which was overly sweet to me. The Andy's employees are friendly. The first time they had someone taking orders outside due to the line at the drive thru. If I'm craving frozen custard, I will keep Andy's in mind given it's the best frozen custard shop that's close to me. read more

Um, whether it's in Kirkwood or Ballwin, Andy's Frozen Custard is YUM! I stopped by this new location and ordered the Cherry Bash Concrete. It was not on the menu but the girl at the window knew exactly what it was and instructed the person inside on how to make it. It was on the menu at Kirkwood the first time I was there and I have ordered it every time I have been to an Andy's custard since (maybe 4-5 times). The Cherry Bash Concrete is Vanilla custard blended with chocolate syrup, maraschino cherries, heath bar, and almonds. A size small is gigantic. The only odd thing about this location is that you have to drive through the parking lot of the neighboring strip center to get to it. Otherwise I can't complain. I got the snowmonster: vanilla custard with strawberries and melted chocolate chip. Good, rich taste, not skimpy on the add-ins. A delightful treat. I ate about half mine; took the rest home. (Yes, there's a cooler in my car at all times.) Added lots more fresh strawberry pieces, and put it in the freezer. It was great the next afternoon. The chocolate custard is delicious and gives the vanilla a run for the money. So often the chocolate custard is just not good...not the case at Andy's. They got an old time feel to the place. They are packed this weekend but they getting people through fast. There is a drive through and a huge walk up window.
