Taylor ham, egg and cheese on a roll was standard and good. The French toast was tasty. The pancakes were very, very good. Definitely order these! The diner is no-frills. It's classic food served the original way. It really feels like an authentic New Jersey establishment and I love that it hasn't changed.

We had my son's first birthday party at Batavia on January 6th, 2024. We were so delighted with how everything turned out and the guests had an amazing time! We had access to the entire space for the party and comfortably fit over 50 people. We also hired an outside entertainer for the kids who made balloons, danced and did face painting and there was plenty of space for that as well. Mayron and his team were fabulous and planned every detail with us and were amenable to all of our requests. They catered and served the entire meal and we had numerous guests tell us how delicious the food was. There was plenty of food for everyone and we even had leftovers as well. It's a BYO and they provided wine glasses and set up a beautiful bar area for easy self-service. We were able to decorate the space how we wanted and had access to the space a whole hour before the party and all day to drop things off the day of the party. Also, they stored our cake and helped us cut it for all guests and clean and pack it up at the end. They even kindly held some balloons for us until we could pick them up a week later. We would highly recommend this gorgeous venue and wonderful staff for all parties and private occasions!!! read more

Stopped by here with my family and left wishing we had one in Short Hills too! The ambience of the place is surprisingly charming with warm maroon colors and candlelit comfortable wooden tables - but the food is what really surpassed the meaning of "cafe". I ordered half a turkey monster sandwich and my mom ordered half a turkey club so that we could also share the spinach with avocado and blue cheese salad. The turkey on both of our sandwiches was thick roasted turkey - not just some sliced deli meat but really quality meat on outrageously good whole grain bread. Our sandwiches were warmed up and tasted like a real restaurant quality meal. The salad was so fresh and just tasted all around healthy. We drank herbal hibiscus iced tea (blueberry and passion fruit) which we also loved. Then, as if that wasn't enough, we also tried the gluten free chocolate chip cookies which were SO good that we had to bring home some extra for later. I love this restaurant. This is what Summit needs and when I am in town visiting family, stopping here is the first thing I do. I am not understanding what people are nit-picking about. Prices? Competitive and reasonable. You want cheaper food? It won't be as fresh or as high quality. Food costs a lot and I feel Batavia is a great value. The food choices are great and varied ..and I usually can't decide what I want because it all sounds so good. I love the roast turkey sandwiches. They roast the turkey fresh, in -house and very few places do that. No Boar's-head slimey turkey here. I think the salads and dressings and topping are first rate. I also love the vibe. It is not pretenious as other places can be. It's real. The owner is friendly and hardworking and has given Summit a place to go for everything from a snack to a full meal to just a cup of tea and a cookie. Kids are welcome too. All in all, I have nothing bad to say and I give it 5 stars. YUM. read more

I recently went to Batavia with my fiancé and her registered service animal. we have been in with him many times. The owner .. Paul Petrusi came over to us and gave us a weird stare and without telling us who he was and started swearing at us that we had to get the "F@#king dog out of there. After I mentioned he was lawfully allowed in the restaurant. the owner verbally threatened me with both calling the police and Bodily harm. this was witnessed by many people in the restaurant. I asked for my money back for the food we were waiting for and he said he would "F@#k me up"!! The owner appeared to be under the influence of something. Don't go to this restaurant..especially if you have or need a service animal. read more

I've been here 3 times now (over the span of a year). Their lunch food is usually good. Today I tried a latte - it was delicious BUT $4.95 for a large latte which is the same size as a grande at Starbucks is pricey. The reason for only a three star review is that the service is always slow (13 minutes for a latte and egg wrap this morning). Unfortunately, the breakfast was not worth the wait. The egg wrap was under seasoned and I bit into an egg shell on bite #2, which caused me to throw the whole thing out ($7 down the drain). Well I am confused by this place. It was a furniture place that sold coffee and now it is a coffee place that sells furniture. Don't want either. I ran in to get something off menu for take out. I'm a regular at Bativia for real organic coffee. I highly recommend their coffee, soups, and bite sized cookies. The soups are usually gluten free and very tasty (home made). The furniture and fixtures they sell are very unique and mostly hand made. read more

For starters , my wife and I shared an eggplant tower, fried eggplant layered with mozzarella and tomatoes. Very good. Our friends shared a salad and enjoyed as well. For mains our friends both ordered the hanger steak, my wife had the salmon, and I ordered their chicken special ( a boneless breast wrapped in pancetta). Everything was not only delicious but plentiful. Owner checked on us several times during our meals. Highly recommend trying this establishment.

We showed up about 10 minutes before closing and weren't greeted or told they were about to shut…read moredown--no heads-up, no hello, just silence when we walked in. That set the tone a bit, and the staff stayed pretty flat and distant throughout. In a place serving Italian sandwiches, you'd hope for at least a little of that classic deli energy, but it felt more transactional than welcoming. On the plus side, the sandwiches were loaded with meat--generous piles of gabagool (capicola) and the other cold cuts, so you definitely get your money's worth in terms of quantity. That's the highlight. Flavor-wise, though, they fell short. Everything tasted kind of one-note and under-seasoned. The meat was good quality, but it needed salt, maybe some oregano, a splash of vinegar or oil, or just more care in the assembly to bring it to life. It wasn't bad, just forgettable--more filling than satisfying. Overall, it's a solid 3-star spot if you're purely after a big, meat-heavy sandwich and don't mind basic service. If you want personality behind the counter or a sub that actually pops with flavor, you might want to keep looking. We left somewhat satisfied but not impressed, and probably won't make a special trip back.
