Batata is a cute little cafe coffee shop on Ft Hamilton Parkway in Windsor Terrace. They serve classic Israeli dishes, coffee and smoothies. It's a nice spot to grab a quick bite. The Israeli breakfast aka Batata Breakfast was done nicely. It's 2 fried eggs topped with zaatar, Israeli salad (cucumber, tomato, onions) hummus, olives and haloumi cheese served with a pita. I definitely think that there is a certain charm to this eatery. I got the egg and cheese sandwich which was served in warm delicious bread. My concern is the sauces were not as flavorful as I would expect from a Mediterranean restaurant. Perhaps the answer lies in offering different sauces because the sauce was not memorable. Ironically the whole sandwich had me longing to visit Miriam's on 5th ave for their crispy dough meal. Since Batata is fairly new I will return and see if any amendments are made to the sauce.... Batata is my favorite neighborhood destination for nourishing food, delectable kombucha, and cozy ambiance. My most-loved dishes are the chicken schnitzel sandwich (with mushrooms etc), sweet potato falafel sandwich, and goat cheese and honey malawach. And I would gladly drink gallons of their kombucha (on tap)! As a freelancer, I often take refuge here on weekdays, with my less pleasing work in hand. My favorite neighborhood restaurant. The food is consistently amazing. Favorites are: the Batata Breakfast, falafel sandwich, hummus, plus they have two great salads. Great little spot. My personal favorites are the schnitzel and waffles (best damn waffles on earth) and falafel and the egg Malawich. They also serve wine. It's a small space but comfortably spaced out between tables. You order at the counter and they bring the food over. It's been a favorite spot of ours for years. We found this great little spot on a crazingly hot hot day! This is a little oasis in the neighborhood. The atmosphere is really laid back. Very cute space with a kind of open space between the indoor and the terrace. We had french fries: very delicious and economical, definitely a good pick. I stopped by for breakfast yesterday, and it was a hit. I love the vibe, and the food tasted fresh and delicious. The menu is really creative... different from your average falafel place, as in, I didn't leave with a stomach ache and reeking of too much onion. Also, the acai smoothie (I got mine with peanut butter) is pretty special. I always like it when you see the owner behind the counter when a new small business opens. The place is small to begin with, but cozy. The staff, though it was packed, was nice. We had to wait a bit and the person I was with had to stand up and ask for their food seeing as they had ordered before me and they still had to wait like a good ten minutes after I was served. But the food was good and we knew they were in a rush and we weren't so we took it easy. I've been to Batata to pick up and once to dine in. I've enjoyed the food. The few times I've had falafel there it's been hit or miss with the flavor. I don't like that for extra pita you spend almost $2- which is outrageous, but I will be interested to try some of their breakfast options though the higher price of their options. read more

We visited the Sean Cassey animal adoption across the street so we stumbled in since the place looked really charming from the outside. It's a small place with great service. I had the Chicken Shawarma and it was absolutely delicious. The only thing that seems to baffle me is that the Shawarma is typically made by alternately stacking strips of fat and pieces of seasoned meat on a vertical spit and sometimes has an onion or tomato placed at the top for decoration. The meat is roasted slowly on all sides as the spit rotates over a flame for several hours. The cook slices the meat off of the spit for you and the meat underneath continues to spin over the fire and darken for the next customer. But at Batata, I don't seem to see such a spit so I'm not entirely sure whether the meat is actually cooked on a spit or prepared some other way. It's absolutely delicious nonetheless but it seems to me that it's not prepared in the authentic way. read more

Ordered some food for a delivery which they usually made in 20-30 minutes, was waiting for it 1 hour and 25 minutes, decided to call. Someone told me they going to send it right now, waited another 30 minutes. They never bring the food, so I had to call again. But this time the so-called manager Vicki said they never had my order in the first place. So as I was trying to tell her that someone had my order , she kept interrupting me and screaming. Also when I asked for manager she hun up on me, and I had to call third time . And obviously didn't ever get the food I ordered. We do love this place so very much! It's a wonderful little spot with fantastic food. Deliveries, however, have been a hit or miss sometimes. After about the fourth time of delivery errors, I thought I'd write. Each time I've ordered and paid for add on items they have been omitted from the order and charged. I have received no communication about any things being out at the restaurant or if I wanted any substitutions or even a credit. It wouldn't" be a big deal if this happened once, but that it's happened multiple times is starting to be bothersome--it all adds up! If you are in the mood for authentic Falafel, then you have come to the right place. This small but cozy place is owned by Israelis, and the Falafel makes me feel like I am back in Israel. Falafel is my go to comfort food, and this place will not disappoint any Falafel Connoisseur. They platter is reasonably priced. It comes with carrot salad, pickled cabbage, hummus, tahini (t-hee-naa in Hebrew), schug, and Israeli salad. Due to my allergies to carrots, I always substitute for extra Israeli Salad. They are courteous about these types of substitutes and they do not charge extra. So, why are their Falafels some of the best that I had in new York? Because they are filled with chickpeas and greens rather than a bunch of breadcrumbs. Because they are supper crunchy on the outside, and supper soft and flavorful on the inside.
