I stopped by on a Saturday noon. The place was almost full. Tables were arranged close, so one has to be careful when moving around. Mexican hot chocolate and White chocolate chai latte were excellent drinks. It was both sweet and creamy. Power burrito and Avocado jack wrap were my main food items. Both were excellent. Did a little wfh at Barrique's on a Thursday afternoon. The store inside was large, much bigger than I expected. My friend and I easily found a table to set up work at and we settled in. To drink, I ordered an iced vanilla latte (a classic). It was really good, just what I was looking for. Nothing crazy, just a solid latte. I also ordered an oatmeal raisin cookie, which was soooo good (and absolutely huge). I devoured it easily. The inside is cozy and has lots of natural lighting. I think my main complaint is their music choice, which was instrumental kinda hospital lobby vibe music. This is definitely a personal preference but I like when cafes play soft lowfi, jazz, or indie type music. I wasn't exactly vibing with the lobby vibe, but that's ok. Like I said, personal preference for sure but if I had to make a rec...that would be it. read more

Came in on a Friday late afternoon for my ginger orange scone and they were sold out! I tried the maple scone but still preferred the orange one. I just learned that the points I accumulated over many years are now expired under new rules for using all points within 1 year. I retired so do not drive by every day to get coffee anymore like I did for many years starting when they opened. The accumulation of points used to have value as there were rewards you could acquire with higher points, including wine or even a trip. I spent money at the store instead of using points and now they are screwing a longtime loyal customer by changing the rules after I already earned the points. Why would they do that? What a horrible decision by the owner. read more

I've ordered twice from here due to the ease and the hours they are open. The food is okay - the natural flavors are there but there is a severe need for seasoning in the food. This is probably my favorite spot on the West Side to bring a good book and cozy up with some coffee or iced tea. The staff is extremely friendly and the drinks are great. The pastries and cookies and breads are fantastic, too! (Grab one of the espresso chocolate chip scones when they're fresh, they'll turn you into a morning person, guaranteed). They make a REAL macchiato here, and really, you can't go wrong with any of the espresso drinks. I do think the non-baked-goods food across all Barriques locations has gone downhill a bit, but that's really a Barriques problem and not specific to this location, and doesn't reflect on any of the location staff. (e.g. the turkey avocado club sandwich used to be amazing, but Barriques as a whole has switched to this sorta depressing microwave-ready bacon that's pale and floppy and just kinda grim. Also what happened to Zapp's chips?!). As a whole, the hot food suffers in comparison to, say, Indie Coffee, whose sandwiches and waffles are some of the best around. On the other hand, a meal is not what I go to Barriques for. Look, it's a coffee shop, and it does all the coffee-shop-things about as well as they can be done, AND you can get a beer or some wine. It's cozy and nice and the staff is fantastic, so for my tastes, I can't give it anything other than 5/5. read more

Ah, Barriques. I haven't been in quite some time only to discover their addition of market bowls! A giant bowl of healthy goodness was just what I was craving. This trip I went with the Kegonsa bowl. I like the different base options, and originally ordered with quinoa but it came out as fresh greens (maybe I was misheard)? Whoops. Regardless, the spiced chickpeas were fantastic. A bit of a bummer that I had to really work to get at them in the greens though - they settled to the bottom quickly. Would definitely recommend the lemon-basil vinaigrette, just the right blend of tart and herbaceous to liven up the greens (I always opt for dressing on the side. I've been to this location many times as it was just up the street from my old home. They've been a destination for a quick lunch, a place to chat with my gal pals over delicious Mexican hot chocolate, and a cozy getaway to hunker down and work. This location has a good amount of tables with accessible outlets, a lot of natural light up front from the large picture window, and comfy chair situated around a fire place in the back. Service is generally quick and friendly no matter the time of day. I've enjoyed their BBQ Ranch Chicken Wrap with pasta salad on a few occasions, and on my last trip I tried the Barriques Breakfast Sandwich. I had seen it on a friend's Twitter feed and it looked so amazing pillowy and delicious that I had to try it. I made some slight modifications to the sandwich in losing the egg and adding bacon and tomato. The ingredients inside the sandwich were delicious, but the breakfast roll itself was incredibly dry and over-browned. I was under the impression they were baked in-store, but I was sitting overlooking the kitchen and the rolls were in a plastic bag like the kind you get your grocery store bakery. It's totally possible that they were just using leftovers from the day before or get them from another store, but since the roll is what drew me in it was kind of a bummer to have it be dry instead of soft and tasting fresh out of the oven. Overall, though, the quality has been good so I'll give the breakfast sandwich another whirl when I'm craving a decadent breakfast. read more

Every once in awhile, I think about stopping in here for lunch since it is close to my workplace. The few times I have, I seem to always walk away disappointed. Today was no exception. I took a late lunch (around 1:30) and ordered a wrap sandwich for dine in. Unfortunately, there was absolutely no place to sit and eat. Over half the tables were full of people just squatting. No food, no drinks, just taking up space. For a wrap sandwich, you get a choice of salad or chips (there used to be an option of pasta salad, but that is no longer available, even though it is still on the board menu.) The chip "selection" consisted of 8 bags of Voodoo or 3 bags of plain and that was it. When I requested another option, I was told no without any explanation. I attempted to talk with the barista while waiting and he was less than interested in having a conversation. The very small wrap sandwich arrived in a non-descript clear plastic container. Are you kidding me? A bag of chips & a 4 inch wrap for $7.31? SO overpriced. Parking for all the restaurants and businesses along this strip mall is always a headache. Site lines are terrible and car accidents are frequent. I tried to give this place another try, but I've got to learn to just give up. read more

They also sell novelty coin purses, bottle openers, and coffee making appliances and accessories, etc. This is a perfect coffee shop if you expect to arrive 10 or 15 minutes before your date does, haha. Love the atmosphere! It's very relaxed and sociable. The coffee is great and their wine selection is good as well. The steamers are very, very good! I've been to some places with syrup settled at the bottom, but mine wasn't too bad here. The only thing I noticed were some tiny flies by their pastries near the register, but considering they had probably sat there all day and I didn't plan on ordering any, it was a great experience overall. I have been here many times and finally decided to write a review. The coffee itself is ok, but the staff are holding this place back. The girl with dyed hair (which I have zero problem with) is rude, and I must echo the observations from other reviewers that staff conduct and language is often inappropriate. This is especially true when there are children around. The baristas seem unskilled, and orders take much too long to get out. These things are easy to fix with appropriate management. I hesitated to review this place but my experience during the last two visits have been worse than usual. During my final visit, I tipped 10% and received a rude comment, and bad attitude from the cashier. No matter how good the food and coffee is, I think this type of behavior earns 1 star. read more

I wanted to give this place a single star, but the coffee was good enough that I felt guilty doing so. That being said, this was by far the filthiest cafe I've ever seen. I literally changed tables 3 times before finding one that wasn't sticky or entirely covered with crumbs. There was food and trash scattered all over the floor (including a half scone laying forgotten near the entrance). There was only one other customer there besides myself, yet the employees stood behind the counter chatting instead of picking anything up. I came here to have some coffee and read my book, and ended up having to leave after finishing a single chapter because the hoards of flies buzzing around my croissant made it hard to concentrate on my reading. After swatting at one and noticing a veritable fly graveyard on the windowsill, I decided enough was enough and hit the road. The coffee was actually quite good, but the atmosphere was miserable. I had to laugh when I read my previous review of this location. Again, we were faced with finding a replacement for the Middleton location during Good Neighbor Festival. This very well could be the only time I've been here since the last. The beverages were fine, and the staff was friendly enough(and yes, they still have ice cream). It was, however, incredibly dirty. We chose to sit by the window and the armchair behind us was littered with crushed chips, and the floor was in the same condition. Two or three of the tables were visibly dirty(crumbs and stray wrappers)and no one came over to wipe them down in the hour or so we were there. I seriously didn't even want to put my purse down on the floor, it was so icky. Maybe we just caught them on an off day, or after a busy rush...but that totally killed the experience for me. read more

There was construction at my apartment building so I was looking for a quiet spot for a cell phone recharge, reading moment, and lunch. I needed to be on the westside for a movie outing afterwards for I explored the Old Sauk area for a spot. I walked through all the restaurant spots in the Old Sauk Row. The counter person at Barrique was helpful as she pointed out all the possible outlets. The other restaurant choices in Old Sauk Row had no outlet options. Barrique fit the bill for a place with an outlet and food, so I plugged in. It was not as quiet as I was hoping for. The low din was a bit distracting to read my paperback so I switched to a magazine. Barriques is a good place to socialize as many small groups of people were having great conversations. Coffee or wine. Sandwiches or Desserts...something for everybody. But I learned a Saturday at lunch time is just not a good time to try to slip into a book. I ordered the Cuban sandwich and a Miel expresso drink. The Miel was good but could have used a bit more honey. The Cuban used very good quality pork and cheese. But it was made almost inedible due to the Napalm Mustard that was used. That mustard had to have had horseradish or something that went right into my nose on each bite. I took the bottom of the bread off so I could at least eat the meat and cheese. I would try it again without the mustard and hope for the best. The Old Sauk location is a small store front but has many tables. The counter area is well stocked and easy to view choices. I will not be hard pressed to come back if the opportunity arises. read more

Not sure why but just about every Barriques I go to seem to leave me feeling wanting more. Guess maybe its the "chain" thing but the food quality while OK is simply not impressive. Staff seem under-trained and unprofessional talking to each other behind the counter and using language that is not appropriate for children. Their coffee is OK I guess but I can do better at home - The "Cheddarhead" sandwich I ordered was hot but simply not cooked thoroughly and was extremely greasy. I will not be ordering that one again. Loved this coffee shop! I got the lavender honey latte. It was so tasty and refreshing. The coffee shop itself is spacious and there are a lot of tables for you to set up shop and get work done. It's warm and welcoming. Wi-fi is open access, no password. I love that you can also get wine here! I've heard that the mojito mint tea and the cowboy cookies are delicious. Visited for a cool drink and a snack. Fine chai lattes. They have almond and soy milks. There is a menu of breakfast foods and wraps for lunch. The atmosphere includes local photos of the state Capitol building and dairy cows being serenaded by a jazz band. The shiny marine varnished tables were numerous and well spaced. I am a sucker for fireplaces. If somewhere has a leather couch and a fireplace, I am all in. Barriques delivers that for me. It is why I like this location and the Fitchburg location the best of the bunch (and I frequent them all). As I only live 2 blocks from here, I am in Barriques fairly often. It is easy to stop in here, grab some liquid gold (read:caffeine), and be on my way. It is also convenient to warm up next to said fireplace when I don't want to put my electric heat on during the winter or have to put my electric AC on during those 3 hellish weeks of summer we are all longing for right now. While I enjoy Barriques and I never have an issue with their coffee/roasts, my issue is with the dirty tables, the off balance tables, the lack of electric outlets and their surly staff. The staff is hit or miss at this location. When I go in during the evening hours and the guys are working the place seems to run better and things are cleaner. When I go in and the staff is primarily women, they seem to be standing around with nothing to do, are rude, and the place is messier. I will obviously be going back and not changing my visit frequency. Solid coffee shop. Just could be improved upon. It doesn't hurt that when I am jonesing for coffee and booze together in one, that this is the to-go place. Their alcoholic coffee drinks always manage to hang out on the more slumber-inducing side...not the more caffeinated side. read more

To put it straight, Barriques product is good but their customer services is not. While the people are friendly, the service is very slow. Every time I have gone into Barriques and ordered, it has taken 15 plus minutes. While it typically hasn't bothered me, I was in a rush one day when I ordered a smoothie. 15 minutes later, I did not have my smoothie. There was no one in front of me. To make matters worst, the smoothie was not very good. The baked goods and coffee are fine, but do NOT get their smoothies. Overall, while most of their products are good, their smoothies are sour and customer service slow. Never go there in a rush and never go there for the smoothies, unless you want a displeasing after taste. read more

They're amazing, delicious, and keep you full till lunch. Mexican Mocha: Also delicious, but can't do it every day. Sandwiches: I bought a sandwich once. Some kind of beefy or pastrami thing. It was $9, and basically an oversized cocktail sandwich. I was supremely disappointed, and won't be trying that again. Wines: I bought a couple bottles off their "Top 10 List": Honestly, they weren't bad but I wasn't impressed. If this is 7/100, what are the rest of them like? Adorable shop. Quick and friendly service. The whole milk hot chocolate hit the spot on a rainy morning. It was rich and perfectly bitter sweet. Husband ordered the daddy grasshopper. Espresso, milk, mocha, and peppermint schnapps. Had great flavor, was very temp hot (just how he likes it), served in a foamy glass mug. Every walk of life was in there as well.
