Reasonably priced coffee and a nice space (w/plenty of room) to do work or talk with friends. Recently tried the pistachio mint latte ($5.75 for a 12oz), which was surprisingly good (not too sweet and the flavors weren't overwhelming). My favorite coffee spot in Middleton. I love the wine selection area. I feel like I'm always picking up a new bottle to try every time I come here and it makes it fun for me. I also feel like it's never too crowded like how some coffee spots get. I can usually count on here to find space and camp out for a bit when I need to get some work done. Overall, their food is great too. I've tried a few of their salads and their breakfast burrito and have thoroughly enjoyed everything. Barriques is a liquor store/coffee shop. It looks fine and had comfortable seating that is plentiful. My wife and I each ordered an espresso and breakfast. My macchiato was weak tasting and bland. My wife's latte was large sized but passable at best. I had a Avocado Jack Wrap that was about the quality of a frozen meal and my wife had the Shorewood Breakfast Bowl which tasted like it was made powdered eggs. She also thought the potatoes were a bit odd tasting. I really wanted to like this place but quality of all items was sub-gas station so it will be a hard pass on a return. read more

Just go! The quiche was incredible and delicious homemade salsa! My husbands breakfast sandwich was incredible - he says best one to date and this is what he ALWAYS gets at coffee shops. Great coffee! Consistent quality and order fulfillment times. Store is always clean. We really enjoy their Avocado Jack Wrap (vegetarian friendly). Only complaint is the cashiers could be consistently more pleasant. About 40% to 50% of the time I would assess the behavior of the cashier as slightly rude, based on my last several Sunday morning experiences. Barriques does right by coffee, which is the main reason I went. Kudos to their baristas and their coffee roasters! Their lattes are perfectly made, with excellent flavor profiles. If you like spicy mochas, you simply must try their Mexican Mocha. The seasonal latte flavors are terrific, and can be counted on to be intensely flavorful without being overly sweet. The baked goods are excellent as well. Their scones are super fresh and have the perfect texture. Then there's the wine. Wow! I didn't plan to buy anything, but their buyers know their business and offer a brilliant selection of all things alcoholic. If you have time, make a circuit of the entire shop, as you may be delighted to find something you didn't know you were looking for. It's not a big store (if you want a larger selection, go to Steve's Liquor), but it's beautifully and carefully curated. Though I've been to the W Wash location quite a few times, today was my first visit to the Barriques in Middleton! It's conveniently placed on my route to work so I'll be sure to be stopping in much more frequently :) Decided to go with the Veggie Quiche today. Although the scones looked absolutely delicious, I wanted something warm (and with some protein). Service was friendly and fast -- I asked for the quiche to go, so they warmed it up and served it to me in a plastic container to take along with me. I heated it a little more after getting to work, seasoned with some s&p, and it is quite delicious I must say! We'll see how full it keeps me for the day, but I would definitely get this again. On my next visits coming up I know the scones will be my weakness -- I'm excited to try the Maple Pecan and Mixed Berry! I've already had the Chocolate Chip Espresso and Cranberry Almond, and while both are great I'd recommend the Chocolate Chip Espresso first. That espresso glaze is ~magical~. This is a neat spot. We didn't come for the wine and spirits, but it seemed like they had a nice selection packed into their little shop. We did come for some coffee. They roast their own beans at the Park St location, so we were excited to try them. I asked for an overly complicated order, and it came out just right! My friend got a latte and exclaimed upon the first sip that it was "phenomenal!" My drink was also great. They have a couple of non dairy milks to choose from; I got mine with oat milk and I think they also had soy and almond. They had many of their tables and seats labeled so that visitors would know where to sit for social distancing, and everyone was wearing masks. read more

Been coming here since I was in high school (in my 20s now) and it's always such a warm, welcoming atmosphere with friendly employees and consistent, delicious coffee and food. No matter who is working, I get great service and my coffee is always how it's supposed to taste and it's delicious! It rotates, so don't get too attached to a particular bottle of wine, but you really don't need to with this place. Best part is the descriptions the company gives to each bottle. I was working on the run and figured every good coffee shop has wireless, so I hopped into Barriques to set up camp for a couple hours. I knew they had good coffee, and they were convenient to where I needed to be. I ordered a breakfast sandwich (egg/cheese/sausage) with my coffee. The sandwich was ready right away, which was nice. It seemed to be served on a dinner roll - that struck me as strange, but it worked. The ingredients were fresh and tasty - who am I to question their bread selection? The coffee was good, as usual. I appreciate the inexpensive refills as I was going to be there long enough to require one. I had issues with the wireless. Not THEIR issues, as I was able to get on the internet and do things, but I was not able to VPN into work. That kinda stunk, as I was hoping to get a few things done. I thought maybe my computer was goofy (always a possibility), but now that I'm on a different wireless network, I'm connected into work just fine. Go figure. I'll have to keep that in mind if I work remotely again. But, overall, I like Barriques. On top of good coffee and food options, they have a huge selection of wines and liquors. Very handy west side location other than that. Food is limited, but better than Starbucks Very bright inside (which is the complete opposite of their Capital location) Staff does seem a little.....out of it. Not really all together there. This is one of my favorite coffee shop stops in the Madison area. It's the best Barriques, in my opinion. Spacious and a large wine selection. Love the Wall of 100 and that I can pick up some fun gifty stuff and Chemex filters. Beer selection, though not huge, is decent. Staff are also pretty consistently knowledgeable and efficient here. Their coffee has improved throughout the years, and I think they've hit their stride. It might not be my favorite Madison roaster, but they do it well. I used to love their scones, but in the last year or so, they seem softer and sometimes underbaked. Not sure what's changed. I love their inexpensive little breakfast sandwich because that bun is so yeasty flavored. I've also enjoyed their mediterranean salad and soups. The tables are good for plunking down with your laptop. You aren't jammed in too close to other tables, and there are sufficient outlets. Also, a nice fireplace and couches for a lazy read. However, it does get loud in here. Lots of groups of people meeting/socializing and there isn't much sound absorption for those espresso machines. So, bring your headphones or a high tolerance for noise. read more

I can't begin to tell you how often I find something allocated on the shelf. What's even more exciting is they sell it all at MSRP instead of secondary market prices like other stores are beginning to do. I just discovered a dirty little secret. Get on their email list. Why? Because they have one day only, Internet only sales. Don't worry, you can do store pickup and not worry about shipping eating away at your savings. However, if you do decide to have them shipped, anything over $50 ships free. I almost hate writing this review because I hate sharing great honey holes when it comes to whiskey, but, there's also Whiskey Karma. This place ruined my day! I come into Middleton for business and stop at Barriques. I have been here before and the coffee here is usually pretty good. I order a mocha and a scone to go so I can make it to my meeting on time. I drive to my meeting and let my coffee cool down on the way. I get to where I am going, take one sip of coffee and my mouth is instantly set on fire with the taste of cinnamon and pumpkin spice. There is so much cinnamon and pumpkin spice in my coffee it would choke a god damn hippo. My coffee was completely undrinkable. No coffee in the office and I am stuck until lunch. I'm not sure what happened, but I was nothing but polite and friendly to the employees. I tipped the staff well. Anyway...Up yours lady who made my coffee and screw your Barriques. Probably my favorite Barriques location for plopping down with my laptop, mostly due to the natural light. There are comfy chairs, tables for working, and it's rarely too loud. It's not quiet, exactly, but for such a large space I don't feel like I'm drowning in din. Do beware the small two-seaters along the wall behind the bar, though - the blenders are right behind the partition and you will hear them. Repeatedly. I've had a couple of Italian sodas and tea and hot chocolate - all a-ok! I haven't noticed a food menu like at other locations, but a couple of the reviewers reference food so perhaps I've just missed something? The parking lot is small but I've always managed to snag a spot. I no longer live on the westside so I don't go as often as I used to, but if I have time to kill between meetings in Middleton this is usually where I stop! read more

Tips for meeting at Barriques on University Ave/ Cayuga Court: A. Make sure your friend is meeting you at this one and not the Barriques on Old Sauk. B. Parking can be tricky, but they have spots in the front, back and on the street. C. Grab a spot near the fireplace in the winter. Can be a bit breezy in there. D. Perhaps get a fortified coffee drink, (as in with some special ingrediants) Daddy Grasshopper, Irish Coffee, etc... they make them up right. E. If you have to pass D. there are still plenty of good options for coffee & tea drinkers. F. Not as many food options at this location but they do have cookies, scones, bagels, etc.. G. Barrique's in general is great - they know their wine, and they serve Milwaukee's own Alterra coffees and baked goods.I've been to two of their other Madison locations and enjoy the laid-back atmosphere and comfortable seating areas. However, this morning on my way out of Middleton, the staff at the Middleton Coffee Trader location was dismal. At 7:30 a.m., the assumption in a coffee shop three blocks from a major freeway entrance should probably be that people are on their way to work, or just generally not interested in a leisurely 15-minute wait for a latte! When I entered the store there was one person already waiting for an espresso drink, one person ahead of me and no one behind me. After one of the three employees rung me up, I waited several minutes as the barista VERY leisurely made the person in front of me's cappucino. She was literally pulling an espresso, standing for a few seconds talking to the other girl, then steaming the milk, then standing, and so on. After she finally finished the other guy's drink, she wiped her area down and took her sweet time to start my drink. It was very obvious I was there waiting, and very obvious that she was just wasting time. Meanwhile, her and one of the other employees started to argue with one another, all the while she does nothing. Finally, I tried to make eye contact with one of them, because I really was in a hurry to get back to Milwaukee. Finally, she made my drink, slooooooowly. As an aside, I'm not that uptight or fast-paced of a person, but customer service with no customer focus really gets on my nerves, and there is simply no excuse for ignoring a customer in a coffee shop at 7:30 in the morning. My visit to Barriques was brief, but it grabbed my attention enough that I hope to come back soon to do some more poking around! Though I have been going to my cabin for at least 16 years now (which has me passing through Middleton), it has only been rather recently that my family and I have started exploring the towns we pass through more. My fiancé and I had made a day trip up for some premarital counseling, and being craft beer lovers, decided to pick up a local brew on our way home. This is how we came to Barriques. Set at the corner of Elmwood and Cayuga (though this is apparently not the only location), Barriques is easily accessible from US 12/US 14. There is some parking right in front of the store, though I'm sure at certain hours you may have to park a little further. It is a well lit building with an interesting combination of coffee/food station, seating, and shopping. I didn't purchase any in-store consumables, but it seems to be a popular meeting place with enjoyable food and drinks. I think there's even a fireplace! Plenty of seating and they even have booze infused coffee drinks. Nice.... I enjoyed the liquor selection. They carry many of the usual brands such as Svedka, Jose Cuervo, Captain Morgan, Guiness, Etc., but also all kinds of locally made beers and spirits such as Deaths Door Distillery and Capital Brewing (both local to Middleton), New Glarus, Pearl Street Brewing, and more! Also a large wine selection-- we even saw wine in a can: LOL. The prices seemed fair. Some of the hard liquor seemed a pinch pricier than you might see at other liquor stores (when I say a pinch, I mean not enough to make me squirm, just a few bucks difference), but the beer was reasonably priced: paid about $8 for a 6-pack of craft beer. Staff was nothing to brag about. Not rude, but kind of just there. Pleasant enough. I will no doubt be back, I plan to make a greater effort to explore the towns I think I know but actually don't. read more
