Big fan of World Market! I like stopping in after the holidays to see if they have any deals on their holiday decor. There is so much to look at in this store. Great stuff! Terribly disappointing! I used to frequent the World Market that was on the west side Madison, back in the late 90's and early 2000's. I moved so I hadn't been there in a very long time. Today I was in the area and went to the Middleton location for some last minute gifts. Boy, was I shocked. They used to have an extensive variety and all kinds of goods from all over the world. It was a place you could spend a lot of time there just browsing and learning about items from other cultures. Now? Complete TRASH. Crap you can find anywhere! Overpriced and of low value. Nothing that would be considered unique or interesting. And their pricing is insane!! I spent more time in line, due to 2 cashiers, than I did browsing. This was only because my grandson wanted to buy a few gifts for family. He found things but we could have found those things anywhere. Standard, bland stuff. This was just another reminder that most companies are just not in it for the high quality goods or customer experience. Just the profits. read more

This is one of my very favorite places to treat myself!! I go once every few months. I went yesterday and I got a wonderful array of culinary delights! And in case you don't know, they do have a credit card But who am I to get anybody in trouble? Haha! The credit card is pretty good and I usually have rewards every time I shop. They also do 15% off for birthday coupons if you are a member. Yesterday I was able to clean my 15% off and I had a five dollar reward. I wouldn't say the customer service is the best for my retail manager point of view, but if you ask questions, they will answer them. They don't necessarily go out of their way to ask how you're doing or any of that stuff though. I will say I still enjoy every trip that I go there. Yesterday I bought bubbly an array of items for charcuterie boards, and some really amazing gourmet snacks, not to mention a couple of hot sauces. If you are a foodie and wine person , love imported culinary delights, this place is for you. It was a great shopping trip and I can't wait to go back.! read more

On my recent visit to World Market, I was pleasantly surprised. The store was immaculate. Not one item was out of place on the selves. The selection of fun whimsical items was way above average. International food is the star of the show. Many hard to find items. Upon checkout, I was greeted by a friendly cashier. Although many folks come here for the home furnishings which are all fine and good, for me it's the outrageous stock of exotic foods and beverages that draws me to the back of the store like a culinary magnet. Looking for a uniquely-scented bar soap to give as a gift to that person you don't really know that well but are too old to go the Bath & Body Works route? Sniff away! You're going to fall in love with a lot of items here, but beware: some of them are ridiculously expensive, and even if they aren't, bargain-basement prices aren't enough to motivate me to stand in line for thirty minutes. In my experiences, often around the holidays, to be fair, I have had to wait in line a minimum of ten minutes. I don't know if I just have a knack for picking the worst days and times or what, but on more than one occasion I've abandoned my purchases because I just can't stand in line any longer. Usually there's only one or two registers open, and the transactions tend to be lengthy. If someone is in need of extra service beyond checking out (a price check, a replacement, etc.), plan to double the time you've already been in line. If all I have are a couple of $1 hot cocoa packs, chances are that I'm going to set them down and peace out. read more

How could you not like this place? Fun variety of kitchen goodies(prepping, and plating), interesting decor, decent furniture. If that's not enough, wander back to the wines, pick out something new(and relatively cheap), then grab a tasty treat(My recent pick? Crunchy Chocolate Hazelnut Spread. Oh yes.). I saw a review about an employee and I have to make sure that she gets proper recognition. I've only seen her working during the last two summers but I have had an incredible experience with her. She went out of her way to make sure that all of our questions were answered and she always walks around with a smile. Love this store, definitely you should go into if you're looking to walk out with great random products. Came in again today for their clearanced down outdoor section. Ran into a new employee with bright red/orange hair and the employee mentioned above (I believe her name is Kayleigh or Kaylee). I just noticed that the address for World Market is for it's old location. It is now at: 1700 Deming Way which is by Greenway Crossing. My wife and daughter found this place years ago when they were in West Towne area. I always thought it was some sort of dollar store because of the Cost Plus name. Boy was I wrong. We have found some fantastic and unique gifts here. They also have some very good international food selections and a ton of wine for good prices. They run some fantastic sales too. A furniture store that DOES NOT help disassemble large furniture pieces you purchase such as "a large daybed" I bought today and will make you disassemble the entire thing in the parking lot. It's "against their safety policy" to not let you or help you disassemble in store what they themselves built out on the floor. This information was disclosed to me after my $250 purchase. I will never buy from them again for not servicing customers with big ticket items. read more

Well....hmmm....what to say? First, think Pier One, extra large.... Lots of imports, soaps, incense, unique kitchen ware, over priced weird, yet funky and eclectic furniture....you know you want it, but it's uncomfortable and falls apart because of poor craftsmanship....oh, wait, sorry...it's an import....can't say that :P lol right? I'm sorry, but this place is just over priced. I think it must be because it is a convenient place located to high $$ wealthy neighborhoods and let's people go on a convenient "worldly" spending spree in an import Walmart. Okay, that might be a bit harsh...no, checking....nope, not harsh. Truth be told, it is a lot easier and more convenient to shop here than run around to the little independent import shops scattered around Madison. So, in reality, this may be your only choice if you want to have something cool, semi-unique, and give yourself cache for that champagne brunch or exclusive dinner party Better idea...IMHO...go out and tour the small farm towns, buy locally made cool arts and crafts! Support our local struggling rural economy.... I stopped in last weekend looking for a natural bristle brush to clean my Chemex coffee carafe with, and some black plates that are square but with rounded corners. Yes, I'm super picky, and no, they had neither item. Somehow it didn't matter, though, because it's always just fun to shop here. They had large area rugs on a super good sale, violet scented soap (often hard to find), an elephant head wall mounted bottle opener, and any number of other fun things. You'll never leave with what you came in for, but you'll always find something cool to bring home. I'm a fan. read more

I. LOVE. WORLD. MARKET. There's always an eclectic selection to choose from, and I LOVE finding awesome pieces to add some character to my home. Along with furniture, kitchen gadgets, jewelry, dish ware, food, artwork and random fun toys near the checkout, there's WINE!! If wine were a person, I'd marry them on the spot. Seriously though, they have a great selection of wine in the back of the store, and I'll find myself spending a good 15-20 minutes trying to decide which bottle will come home with me. While shopping in greenway station this place is a MUST stop. My only disappointment these days are that they don't stock many canvas shopping bags anymore, replacing them with plastic/ recycled(?) material ones that seem very flimsy to me. read more

For all the things you never knew you needed, and more! WM is the BEST place to go for unique gifts. I tend to come here when I have NO idea what to get for someone. I always find inspiration, and can put together some really awesome and thoughtful gifts. They have a good wine selection, but are way too pricey for most wines. I recommend finding unique wines at World Market and then buying them elsewhere. Sorry. They also have really cool gift bags if you want to impress people with your gift presentation. My favorite thing about WM is all the foreign snacks and candies they offer. Things you have never heard of, or things you've heard of but have never been able to find. If you have someone on your list that is hard to shop for, throw some unusual snacks together, and voila! I also love all the mini bottles of hot sauce, condiments, booze, etc. For real, you could do all of your Christmas shopping here, no sweat. Whenever I get homesick, I come here. They have rogue beer, Juanita tortilla chips (during certain seasons) and other various things I took advantage of when I was in Washington. My fiance is from Hawaii so I also stock up on products from Hawaii. Great selection of various other ethnic foods, as well as not so ethnic. They have a great rewards program as well as a coffee program. I think if you but 10 bags of coffee, you get one free. And the coffee is good, a lot of different flavors. A ton of wine and beer. Always a plus. Lots of furniture and cooking tools. If anything, it is worth the stop to just look around. I'm sure you will set least find one thing you can't live without! read more

I love this place! This is always the first place I think of when I am searching for imported items! I just picked up a few items I had while I was in Italy! I picked up LaVazza, Bellini, and Limoncello! As well as some deserts as well! They have so many cool and interesting things here! Love their greeting cards too! Very cool and unique! I saw that they had some Christmas ornaments here too! Will definitely stop by and check them out next time on the West side of town! I can cure my food cravings for what I miss from London and Japan, buy outstanding quality fair trade organic rice for realistic prices, taste wines and snacks on Saturday afternoons and pick up killer deals on their clearance items. I really love the World Market brand, but this store just doesn't make the cut. They have all the great products that World Market carries, but the staff and store lack the usual quality that I find at other World Market stores. The most frustrating thing that I've found at this store is the unmarked items. They recently had a sale on "all pumpkin products," but after browsing the pumpkin pancakes and pumpkin soup mix, I gave up on trying to guess the price. I also found another section with a lot of missing price tags/labels. Not cool. The second thing that grinds my gears is that they've started putting out coffee for the holidays (or maybe just because) during busy times. Twice in a row I've visited to find all 3 coffee pots empty. One of those times, I notified one of their team members, and he simply removed the coffee pots from the front of the store. I guess "early bird gets the worm" when you shop here. Otherwise, I still enjoy shopping at World Market and this store is the only one in Madison. read more

As a kid, World Market provided Santa Claus with everything he needed for my Christmas stocking. Very unique and fun kids toys. As an adult, I enjoy looking at their gorgeous kitchen items and home decor. I can find eclectic, nice-looking household items in my style and my price range. Ten years ago, I bought blankets, comforters, and dishes there, and they still look great. If you want furniture that will last for 20 years, shop somewhere else. Don't complain if you buy a $700 couch and find out that the frame is made out of pine wood and particle board--most modern furniture is. It's still great value FOR THE PRICE (that's why I gave them five stars). If you can afford to buy a $3,000 couch with a solid hardwood frame, then go somewhere else. I looked at 20 local, chain, and consignment furniture stores in Madison and couldn't find anything under $2,000 that was attractive and comfortable. I found a nice couch on sale at World Market but the color I wanted was only available online, with a $110 delivery fee. I stopped by the store to look at the couch again, and was told that I could have the couch shipped to the store for free, and could pick it up there. I signed up for the shopper rewards card and got an additional 10% off! The employees were friendly, attentive and helpful. They did not pressure me to buy anything. If I could give you a zero I would! No customer service and complete disregard for their customers. I placed an order for pick up 5 days ago. I needed brackets for shelving that I ordered online through World Market. The brackets were "in stock" at the store on Saturday. I went to the store that afternoon to get them and they told me the brackets were on the truck and it still had to be unloaded. I was told they would "call me" when they were ready to be picked up. I called the store on Sunday, and I was told they said they could work on getting them off the truck. I stopped by the store on Monday and they told me again they still had to be unloaded from the truck. My shelving arrived Wednesday via UPS. It is now Thursday evening, still no phone call. Instead I receive an email telling me the order for my brackets was cancelled. What? I would not have ordered shelving without brackets. I feel as though i have wasted time and will never be a customer at World Market. Everyone should beware, they just don't care about their customers. This is the place I love to go to find unique, well priced, 'off the beaten path' type products. It's fun to shop here, just because of all of the unique items they have. My problem, however, is that their customer service sucks ass. I have put stuff down and walked out more than twice because I refuse to sit and wait 10-15 minutes to check out. Today was my final visit to their store. After waiting for 10 minutes to check out, the only cashier was individually wrapping more than two dozen stemware glasses. Then, who I assumed was the store manager, opened up a register for a specific customer he was working with; let them to the front of the line, and proceeded to check them out. WTF? Never going back again. It might seem unreasonable, but after you stand and wait for 10 minutes and then be completely ignored... It's just unacceptable. read more

Great customer service, free wine tastings every Saturday (make sure to get their wine membership and save a lot of money!), they always have good dead on their items, but it is a little tricky to find the prices at times.
