    The rug.
    Sarah F.

I've shopped at this store for about 4 years, but my visit yesterday will send me elsewhere from now on. I used to love coming here and shopping as a treat. Yesterday I visited the store and was at first happy to see staff wear masks and the floor marked with arrows to prevent people from being too close. But the arrows are placed so illogically -- to get even to the checkout, you would have to go the wrong way. People were ignoring all signage and employees and customers were all on top of each other. The store was cluttered with Easter merchandise. I understand that they were unable to sell in April, but it's June and the whole front aisles are just Easter. You can barely get a cart by all the Easter stuff they have piled about. Again I tried to use the arrows by the pet section, but the arrows literally make no sense. You can't even do a logical square to follow them, you would have to magically appear in an aisle. Someone put all those arrows down And never actually walked the path. I get to checkout, and the line went fast. I was only in line for 2-3 minutes, which was great. But then I spent nearly 20 minutes at the register. The employee was slow at checking things out, she didn't seem to understand the concept of social distancing and just went around the plexiglass. She even thought it was okay to touch my phone with both of her hands to see a barcode that I was showing her, already zoomed in. I asked for how to get a big rug from the viewing rack (a $313 purchase I was about to make and she said one of the young men nearby would help. Cue to three younger guys standing and "cleaning" carts -- even the manager was standing there and saying they were doing it wrong. All these people standing here not helping with the rug. The cashier had to wave them over and I had to even say -- "are you sure they are going to help?" And chuckle. They were also standing on top of each other. Two cashiers, three checkout guys, one manager all in a very small space. Finally, one guy begrudging says he will get the rug after the other guys said "not it" (I'm not even joking). I show him the tag I took a picture of and he looked at it and left while I was finishing checkout of my other purchases (about $200 worth) at a glacial pace. This young guy comes back with a rug and I can see it is the wrong one. It's not even the right color. It's blue, not ivory and red. I told them all, that's not the right rug, and there's 6 of them looking at me stunned -- "are you sure?" The kid who brought the rug huffs and puffs and they check my phone to make sure the rug is incorrect according to the picture. Then he says "do you want to come back and show me which rug it is" and I said no. I was like -- the sku number ends in XXX. It's red and ivory like I showed you. Again we wait. One cashier loudly and passively says "what's this lady waiting for? Maybe she wants to save 10 percent and open a card with us" which I already said no to. The cashier mumbles to her under her breath that I already said no and "she doesn't want it." Meanwhile, I'm watching the manager and two of the cart guys all on top of each other, laughing and joking about being safe, using carts, and then realizing they hadn't been counting people entering to store to adhere to their 85 people inside only numbers. Associates had masks under their noses, they aren't counting, they think sanitation is a joke and they think it's okay to act like this in front of a customer? So, the rug. The original guy who got the rug brings it back and slams it on the floor in front of me, just throws it against the glass entryway and walks away. I commented that it was a $300 purchase he just threw down and the 3 associates just looked at me and said nothing. They acted like I was the problem here??? I told them I would take it out to my car myself and left as quickly as I could. I will not return.

Nice selection of home goods hence the name. A lot of seasonal items with a lot of variety. Several pieces of furniture I found had defects such as cracks, paint chips, etc. The store is worth a look but keep an eye out for quality issues with certain products.

I clearly stated more than once that I was "just browsing" and "doing fine", but everywhere I turned this guy was trying to sell me something. When I actually did purchase a table - not one that he was trying to push on me, and not with the chair upsell - the checkout and pickup process was fine. I asked for some follow-up information via phone on a different product and received it quickly. I'd be willing to try Rubin's again, but perhaps at the downtown Madison store next time.

I had first entertained the idea of purchasing said chair a few months ago and went in to see their selection. Prior to going in, I had found a 10% off coupon in the Reader, so the incentive to purchase from Rubin's rose proportionately. They had a vast selection of modern contemporary furniture on 2 levels. I had a hard time deciding exactly what to select, but after perusing the inventory, I made up my mind. The salespeople were very friendly and helpful, and not at all pushy. The particular chaise I ordered wasn't in stock and had to be ordered from their warehouse in Madison, WI and would take approximately 8 weeks. I was disappointed to have to wait so long, but good things come to those who wait. I got my chair about 3 weeks ago and I absolutely love it. It's comfortable as well as stylish. Can a piece of furniture be sexy? Absolutely. And I just ordered a second chair.

Last year around the holidays, it started having occasional problems with the reclining feature. Sometimes the back wouldn't go all the way up, or the footrest might sag a little on one side, but it always self corrected within a few uses. I planned on calling after the holidays. Then we started passing around either the bad flu going around, or Covid, not sure which. Things didn't get back to normal til the beginning of March. I noticed that the recliner was having reclining problems more often. So I got out my paperwork, and called the number on it, and talked to the woman who answered. Answered all her questions. I was told that because I hadn't called within 30 days of first noticing the problem, it wouldn't be covered, but I could pay a repairman to come fix it. I told her NOWHERE on the pamphlet or receipt did it say that, and no, I wasn't paying for a repairman. She sent me an email, and in the title was the word Amazon. I didn't buy my furniture through Amazon. I went to a local store, because I thought I would get a repairman from that store, not one from an Amazon company. I'm very disappointed with Slumberland, and will think twice about buying anything from them again.
