I have been a regular for years at the Mineral Point location and recently moved to Middleton and started using the one on University Avenue. A few weeks ago i ordered 2 quad hot caramel macchiatos but after I drove away I discovered neither one had any caramel in them. So I drove back and told them there was no caramel and could they please put it in. They told me they would put some more in. They didn't apologize at all. I told them there was none in it and they kept saying they would put "more" in. I was getting a bit perturbed that they were implying that they had put it in and would now add more and I must be mistaken when I said there was none. When I insisted that there was absolutely no caramel in them, one girl rolled her eyes and said again they would put more in. I spent almost $14 for no caramel so I was getting upset at the attitude and finally said "are you calling me a liar? There is no effing caramel in them at all!" She then says she won't be serving me because I was so angry and I left with my $14 worth of coffee flavored milk. I threw them out when I got back home and vowed never to ever go back to MOKA. The owner lost about $3000/year because of these terrible employees. The way they treated a longtime customer that had spent so much money there was very upsetting. I will never go there again and will badmouth MOKA to anyone that will listen until the day I die. read more

Their Matcha is amazing! One of my favorite places to get a Matcha Latte! I get an Iced Matcha Latte with Oat Milk and (if available) Sugar-Free Vanilla Flavoring. The staff are great friendly and happy to help you. They enjoy talking to their customers while at the register, or after you pick up your drink. For the ambiance, it depends where you go. The one on State Street is good for noise level. Music isn't too loud or people aren't too loud. The location on Northport Road is a drive-though, but that doesn't matter. Love MOKA - always excellent coffee and friendly staff offering quick service - and perhaps the best pup cup in town!

I've been drinking MOKA coffee for years. I went to this location and it took 10 minutes to get my coffee. Since they started serving food, you have to wait in line while they make the food. It can take 10-20 minutes to get a single cup of coffee. And at this location, you're unable to leave since it's a one lane drive-through. The coffee I received today was so thick and had grounds in it. I went back and waited 10 more minutes and then the barista just laughed. I wasn't amused at all, and her manager even chuckled at the thought of returning a strong, burnt and dirty cup of coffee. Never again. The customer service is awful and the coffee now is questionable at best. There's just so many more options for getting coffee in Madison. MOKA needs to be serving the customers with respect and with a good cup of coffee! read more

Overall, ever since discovering MOKA, I've probably stopped by for coffee and oatmeal more times than I can count on my hand. However recently, the oatmeal has been sold out/ no longer in stock as MOKA is trying to switch vendors for the oatmeal. The previous brand was a little small and pricey for the size, you can ask for it to be warmed up, or buy it to go to warm up later if you so choose, I've always asked for it warm. In terms of coffee, there's a decent selection, and the Jamaican coffee is my go to. During the summer months, Sports Tea are the way to go, you can add in honey or other flavors but that would cost extra at 75 cents each. More often than not, there is almost always a line for the drive thru, but fear not, the line moves fairly quickly. Usually someone would come out to get your order ahead of time and ensure that your order is ready when you get to the check out counter. Nonetheless, I do wish there was a way to order ahead of time and be able to grab 'n go. The other minor thing is be careful with the coffee or to go containers, usually for the coffee, I'd ask for a to-go sticker to cover the top so that it doesn't spill in the car, trust me, cleaning up coffee stains is never fun. Also, the corner turns can be a bit tricky to maneuver but that's with most drive thru lines, nonetheless definitely come check out MOKA if you're not in a rush to get coffee! (Or just make sure you allot enough time before grabbing coffee in the rush-hour morning.) read more

My whole truck smells like coffee now and there are some small stains on my seats which really sucks. The food was fine, Service was quick and satisfactory. I prefer more comfortable seating, sort of a cold feeling .

I enjoyed coming here with a friend for a quick pick me up. It was a beautiful day, but alas we were still in winter so the outdoor seating wasn't available. Inside it is a very typical trendy coffee shop, white walls, chalkboard menu/cutsie writing, but they also have a nice array of different drinks and a drive through! I got the orange vanilla latte with soy milk and while it was really great, it was just a tea back with steamed milk. Still enjoyed it, but not sure if it was worth the price. The staff is my favorite part. I once mentioned that they made my order wrong and they made me a free one, which makes sense. But another time, I asked for more almond milk and the guy took my whole cup so that he could froth the almond milk and add it to my half empty coffee. Sometimes each barista is different, but at Moka, every single barista is incredibly genuine. It's almost odd! They always make me happy. The cafe is small but has three spacious tables and they've done everything to make it look clean and neat. The small space allows it to never get over crowded so it's always peaceful without that busy cafe buzz. If you're looking for sugary fun coffee drinks, definitely come here. They have lots of fun flavors but I'd recommend asking for 'half sweet' or half sugar free syrup pumps because these are the most sugary drinks I've ever had. Think starbucks frapps x 2. I usually get sugar free syrups and drink half that day and half the next. The one con about this place is that despite everything being so sweet, their almond and soy milks are also sweetened which makes it hard for to even get a simple latte. I always hit this bad boi up everytime I'm craving coffee on the weekends. The wait isn't long at all and they have sooo many options. perfect drive-thru coffee shop. The coffee/smoothies are fresh and delicious! a tad pricey but way worth it compared to Starbucks. I'd recommend the caramel latte or the mango smoothie. They also have the best iced coffee in the world. Was never a fan until I came here! The workers are literally the nicest people I've ever met! It's like the chic-fil-a service of Starbucks. I had been hearing such good things about Moka and noticed that we passed it on our morning commute. A review from a non-coffee drinker. This seems like a place suited more for coffee drinkers. I've been here four times now. First drink I tried here was the orange vanilla tea latter. I really liked the flavor of this tea. It was quite sweet but I still could taste the orange and vanilla flavors. Second drink I had here...I can't remember, maybe it was the chai, but I guess it didn't leave a lasting impression. Fourth drink I had was an earl grey with vanilla flavor. This was also really sweet and I feel like for a tea like this I could not taste the nuances in the tea flavor. I'm not sure where the sugar for their lattes are coming from. But they all tend to be on the sweeter side. The fourth drink I had was their hot chocolate which was is the chocolate syrup they use in their mocha espressos just mixed with a milk. This I did not like. It just tasted like sweetened milk. Other reviewers are right the baristas here are super friendly here. However every time I've ordered they fail to ask me what kind of milk I want. So I'm not sure if you don't say anything they default to putting whole milk in their drinks. I also didn't realize that asking for almond milk or soy milk was an extra charge, though it is listed as an add-on on their menu and I saw if after the fact. For someone who is lactose sensitive it is frustrating to have to pay an extra charge for this. Like how those with gluten intolerances are cursed with always having to pay that 1-2 dollar extra for gluten free bread. Nowadays when you go to the store, almond milk, soy milk are pretty much the same cost As regular milk. Please don't charge me 70 cents more for changing my milk. That's practically 25% of the cost of the drink. Also is the sweetness level adjustable in the tea lattes? They don't really ask you how sweet you want it so I am not sure. They have smoothies which I have not had the chance to try it. Maybe I'll have to go back to try one of these and see if I enjoy these more than the tea options I have been trying. read more

If you're feeling incredibly despondent and want superficial fluff talk or you happen to be craving a slightly above average Americano, then absolutely visit MOKA. But if you want a decent cup of coffee or you're easily put off by painfully nice baristas then go elsewhere. EVP for example. Literally 48 clicks southeast of this location. I never visit MOKA in the morning because my heightened cortisol levels prevent me from engaging in any form of Midwestern small talk. I've even tried dodging this social bullet on numerous occasions by hitting up their drive-thru window. Now one would think a drive-thru is a safe space for socially awkward humans since you're confined to a vehicle and have the option of getting the french toast out of there, but this couldn't be further from the truth - your vehicle is NOT impervious to barista banter. One of my worst experiences in the Moka drive-thru took place at approximately 7:37 am (midwestern central mountain time) while I was waiting for an Americano. I was having a great start to my morning; hair was on point, didn't feel suicidal, and it was a Friday. But then, just like Hilary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign, everything went to... *insert vulgar word used to commonly describe feces here* As I patiently waited in my car for the overly polite barista to finish crafting my piping hot Americano, she felt compelled to ask me what I was doing over the weekend. I quickly diverted attention to my cellular device thinking this would give me enough time to craft a witty response, thus giving the illusion like I led some deeply fulfilling life. Unfortunately, my wit bank wasn't running smoothly (most likely due to my recent visit to Amsterdam) but realistically from my body's physiological response to social fear. As a result, incoherent babble flowed out of me faster than you can say "coffee enema." I felt defeated. I could still see the barista's cold gaze and plastic smile in my rearview mirror as I reluctantly left the drive-thru. My life was never the same. Seriously though, ease up on the small talk. It's slightly uncomfortable. As for their coffee, most of their blends taste like watered down K-Cups. Except for their Jamaican blend which tastes like maple syrup mixed with day old regret. Most people rave about this blend. I don't get the hype. Their only worthwhile drink, as previously mentioned, is their Americano. And it's not even that it's good. It's just consistent. Most baristas at other coffee shops usually add too much water or screw up the espresso proportions. MOKA gets it right thankfully. So yeah. MOKA is really nothing special. Just another coffee shop that exists in the void of other coffee shops. Agent Dale Cooper would never visit here. p.s. So I go into Moka the other day and order a double whole milk iced latte. The guy comes out with a double almond milk iced latte. "No no," the front guy says. "Whole milk. Not almond milk." So they were about to take the latte back and make a new one, and I go no, it's fine, I'll try it. "You can totally keep that one; we can just ALSO make you the one you ordered," he says. But I couldn't drink that much liquid anyway (and honestly, I didn't mind. I'm not a one-drink sort of gal; I'll order tea, drip, espresso drinks, whatever). So they basically told me to come back in whenever, tell the person at the front about this situation, and get my original drink. My point is: these guys were as gracious as could be about their mistake, made every effort to fix it, and then made sure that I came back. I asked for half the chocolate and still it was plenty sweet. The sizes are large, the prices are good value, the service is very friendly on top of all of it! Also get the MOKA bar. After visiting Moka multiple times now, I have decided that it is my new go-to coffee stop. I have yet to be disappointed! The drive-thru rocks. And the people who work here are so darn friendly. One time there was 2 cars in front of me and someone came out of the store to walk to my window, take my order, and bring me my coffee before I even paid for it. It doesn't get any better than that! After living in Madison for over 2 years I could never seem to find a good coffee shop let alone great service! Never once have I been to MOKA and not gotten an amazing drink and great service. My personal favorite is the Black and White Mocha, my sister's is the Salted Caramel White Chocolate Mocha over ice, my husband preferres a black cup of coffee, and the twins love the kids hot chocolate. We refuse to go anywhere else because it's just that fabulous. The Baristas alone set MOKA apart from every other coffee shop. Owner contacted me: in case you are curious, they serve David Rio chai here. Ingredients are cane sugar, creamer (coconut oil, corn syrup solids, sodium caseinate [a milk derivative], mono and diglycerides, dipotassium phosphate, soy lecithin), honey granules, black tea powder, natural spice blend, natural flavors. To me, a product like this is kinda like serving powdered hot cocoa in a chocolate shop--that's not why you spend more money for a beverage than you would at home, as you can make this with either hot water or milk because it already has the creamer added. So a beverage that would have milk, tea, spices, and sweetener turns into another beverage altogether when you use a powder. I will admit, though--a powdered chai can make a great iced beverage because it adds more mouthfeel (coconut oil/corn syrup solids) but for a hot beverage, it's not as good as adding liquid tea mix to milk. read more

Super friendly service. They offer a quad 20-oz latte for those who need a big fix. I get a decaf almond milk latte everywhere I go (when I can find almond milk) and it's really good here. Umpqua oats--one unsweetened option (yay), the others pretty sugary but still a healthy option. Otherwise, I only saw a few pastries in the case, and some GF cookies in the cooler. Four four-tops inside plus a small bar for seating, plus five small tables out front on the Univ Ave side. Little noisy, no sun cover, and not so private but nice option anyway for early morning. Love this place. I live right nearby and go in the drive thru a couple times a week on my way to work. Always smiling employees and they strike up some good conversations, too! It feels like they're making it a personal experience and actually care and I love that. It's like I'm visiting family when I go instead of just being another cup of coffee to them. They have seasonal drinks that are always so delicious. I have not been inside because I honestly didn't realize they had an inside for people to go to.
