First time visiting Madison and of course, I had to check out a local coffee spot. I always love trying places that aren't chains. I found this one after seeing all the positive reviews and thought it even had a drive thru, but turns out it didn't (I think that's more of an Apple Maps issue). No big deal, we decided to head inside instead and glad we did. The place was so cozy and fully leaning into fall and Halloween vibes! From the decor to the overall atmosphere, it felt warm and festive in the best way. Their menu was super creative and seasonal too, with lots of drink options (they even serve beer, which was unexpected but cool)! Our barista mentioned she was still in training, and I appreciated her honesty and kindness. The drinks came out okay, we ordered a Pumpkin espresso, which came lightly flavored and the other, Banana Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso was a bit strong, it tasted mostly espresso with the flavors either not in the beverage or not quite blended in. I did like how she offered different milk options, that was a nice touch. I also noticed some cups had cute pumpkin toppers, which was an adorable detail (mine didn't have one, but I noticed others did). Overall, it was a cute stop with nice service and a great vibe. If this happened to be nearby when we visit again, I wouldn't mind giving it another shot. read more

One of my favorite breakfast and coffee spots on east side. Their coffee is consistently great, and their apple chai latte in the fall is the best. I also really like that they serve breakfast and lunch all day. It can get a bit busy on weekend mornings, but the service is always fast and the space is cute and welcoming. They sometimes have live music, which is fun. The rewards program is also nice. Overall, it's a cute coffee spot with easy online or counter ordering for takeout or dine-in. read more

This place is cute inside and would be nice to work from or hang out with friends, but everything else is just okay. For the price, I expected more. The nitro cold brew was $6.75 and tasted awful. I also ordered the veggie breakfast sandwich which was $11.50. The bagel is so chewy (not toasted), there is barely any aioli (I opened it up to look because I thought they forgot it), I asked to add avocado but they forgot it, and the greens come totally dry (no dressing at all). This would have been a pretty bad $5 breakfast, and was absolutely not what I expected after paying over $20. I assume the prices are to afford their liquor license, though I'm not sure why you need that if you're only open 7am-4pm. The staff were fine as well, but again fairly lackluster for the prices this place charges. It's possible other items on the menu may be worth their price, but these are definitely not. read more

Coffee shop with a default of paper cups. Latte served in a paper cup after we said we were staying. Then the "barrister" poured it into a ceramic cup and guess what happened to the foamed milk. Average coffee but was not hot. Nice comfortable space. read more

I used to be a huge fan of twisted grounds, but in the past year and a half the quality has gone down significantly. It's overpriced and the service is lackluster. No one looks happy to be here. I also hate that when I leave the coffee shop I end up smelling like burnt toast. The overall vibe is nice and I like the monthly specials, I'm just not willing to pay 8 dollars for it. read more

Plenty of outdoor seating on a sunny morning provided the perfect setting for breakfast. Twisted Grounds has lots of events including live music every week. I just moved to the area and been eager to try Twisted Grounds, waiting for opening date (July 13). Great news was that they were worth the wait. They have a huge outdoor seating, spaces properly for social distancing. Decor cozy and bright. There are plenty of seating in the big open space. Comfy furniture trickled throughout the space along with a large loungy area. Lots of natural lighting makes it bright and welcoming. Hand sanitizers placed at all open tables, every other table closed for social distancing. Very beautiful space. I had the blended white mocha and blended dirty chai raspberry flavor (with whipped cream of course). And they were beyond perfect. Refreshing, light, not too sweet, very flavorful without over doing it. Looking forward to their food menu. Until then, I'll be back to try all the other beverages. read more

Went here to study with a few friends. All of us got drinks and a couple of us ate food, all of it was very delicious. Employees were very nice. We stayed for a few hours and the whole time the music was fire. Best playlist ever, also the chairs were super comfy. All together a great place with a great vibe. read more

I'm not sure why several reviews say the prices are high. I'm looking at the menu board and the 12 oz drinks (the size I get) are about the same as other places. For example, a matcha latte is $5; I literally paid $5.50 somewhere else this morning. I am obsessed with the blended sugar free caramel latte for now. read more

Awesome new shop on the east side! Stopped in Saturday morning and we were greeted immediately by friendly staff at the counter! The menu has a lot of variety. We ordered a dirty zebra (iced, white and dark chocolate, chai, and espresso) an iced mocha, both were tasty! The dirty zebra was a perfect breakfast drink, a must try! We ran into friends outside that had some good looking smoothies and breakfast sandwiches. Went here on a Sunday morning to grab some coffee after seeing the great reviews of the place, and that they had outdoor seating! It is clearly a go-to in the neighborhood, as when we arrived the outdoor seating was mostly full. Good sign! We went in to check out the menu and grab some coffee. My friend got the special drink of a twisted zebra which was white and black chai mixed with espresso. It was pretty good. I ordered a drip coffee, which was a big mistake. First off, it costs $3.00 for a 12oz, which is a little steep for a coffee that you pump yourself. I should have ordered a specialty drink which didn't cost that much more. Second, I tried the house blend, but the canister was out. When I told the barista, he replaced it right away, so it was nice and hot. However, it tasted pretty much like water, with a little coffee added. I don't know if it didn't percolate properly or what, but it was kind of a letdown to pay $3.00 for something that tasted like flavored water. If we go back again, I'll have to order one of the specialty drinks because that was wayyyy better. read more

I love this Coffee Cafe. The baristas are always friendly and the cafe is well staffed. The atmosphere is casual yet inviting and there are both tables and couches to sit at. I've ordered many different food items there and most are flavorful and filling. My favorite drink at TG is the white mocha lavender breve but the honey lavender latte is a close second. In the warm months you can sip your favorite hot or cold beverage outside at the picnic tables while listening to live music. Such a great neighborhood coffee hang out! read more

I absolutely love the atmosphere at Twisted Grounds. I will say that I visit about once a week because it is the closest coffee shop to my house. I love that it has indoor and outdoor seating and is dog friendly. The coffee/drinks are usually good. The chai was a little disappointing to me(not very strong). I will also say that it is pretty expensive. I expect a latte to be around $6 or so but I ordered a large iced tea the other day and it was almost $8. FOR TEA. Overall I had a pretty good experience here. I got my go-to caramel latte with oat milk; it was good, not amazing, but good. I also grabbed lunch here and was very excited to see they had vegan options. I got the grilled vegetable panini( I think that is what it was called) and made it vegan. I thought it would just be the panini minus cheese, but hey had vegan cheese. I was delighted to see this as it is rare. The sandwich tasted great. I wish I could give this place 3.8 stars. It's so cute and friendly but the drinks are pretty darn over priced, more than Starbucks. I spent over $5 for a TEA, yikes! And the first time I went I was overcharged for the red eye because there was not "a button" for the item but being a new business I didn't say anything because I support local businesses and thought I would give them a break. Two Things: First: $8.23 for a large skim mocha is outrageous. Second: This morning I was 2nd in line and it took over 20 minutes to get my overpriced beverage. There were plenty of baristas, but they were much more engaged with each other than with their customers. There was a customer who was taken care of AFTER me that left BEFORE me. I have had this experience before and I can honestly say this place caters to its regulars and not to "outsiders." Really disappointing, not going back. read more

Nice inside -- lots of seating variety. Nicely decorated. Rest rooms are good. Outside seating is a nice touch. A sandwich and salad were good, and prepared quickly enough. Prices all around are in line with the overall quality of the establishment. If you prefer dark roast coffee, you'll be out of luck. No dark roast coffee is offered. Espresso is middling good. Cold brew needs some help -- acidic and somewhat thin tasting, like a flat coke. Drinks are served in disposable cups when dining in, which is a strange thing considering the ambience doesn't point that way at all. Just had a late lunch at the Twisted Grounds. Upon walking in, the ambiance, the yummy smell of coffee & the gorgeous bakery case filled with scones, cookies... I knew this was going to be delight. Any cafe that serves terrific & healthy breakfast all day long is my kind of place. So many choices on top of soups, salads & sandwiches made it hard to choose just one. Of course, they have an extensive list of coffee & tea selections as well. I ordered the fabulous breakfast bowl. Scrambled eggs, carmelized onions, red peppers, corn & avocado to top it off. The cafe was spotlessly clean & the staff was very helpful. The tables are spread apart so we were very comfortable. I'll be returning many times. read more

I have been here several times and the first few times were much better service and quality of food, which is why I was disappointed with my last visit. The s'mores iced chai I received was warm with just a small amount of ice in it and the blueberry muffin I received was still frozen on the inside. I had assumed the bakery they serve, was fresh and never frozen. Would probably have liked the place... had I actually been able to order something or even had the angry young lady at the counter acknowledge my presence. I think one of the dangers of hiring young fashionable Gen Z types is they can ruin one's business by acting out their cancel fantasies on the customers. After literally 5 minutes of being purposely ignored by an angry child wearing several $100 in (admittedly) quite fashionable attire....I realized I never should have tried to spend money outside the working class east side. I walked out and 10 minutes later a very friendly 40 something woman in shirtsleeves came out of Moka Coffee to take my order through the window of my car despite it being 10F. I guess I'll stick with the sort of businesses that hire people who actually need the job and know what customer service is....and have not decided that mature non hip customers are the enemy( and yes, before I became a nurse I had extensive experience in the restaurant biz so I'm pretty good at judging the attitudes and abilities of service employees whether ordering a latte or getting a colonoscopy).
