We frequent Barrio Brewing at Mesa Gateway Airport so we wanted to check out the Tucson location too. This seems to be a much larger space which is nice to know as seating was much more open and spacious so it was easier to get a table at the drop of a hat. The food is tasty and possibly the same as the airport location but I haven't looked and compared the menus. This is also a casual venue so everyone can easily come and be comfortable as is. We were surprised to find it where it was as it seemed like it was tucked away in an industrial area. It was dark when we went so we might not have been paying close attention to the surrounding area because we were very hungry and determined to get there. This is a brewery and a lot more. When you walk in the place is open seating, sort of eclectic with ample TV's and one football field size screen. Great place to watch a game but I wasn't sure til we got there. I also wasn't sure if it was just bar food as another review suggested. Nope. There are tons of burger options, wing options, salad options if you want greens, and soups and chili. Lots of apps too. Did I mention it's a brewery? Check out the beer menu. We were there to just eat this day. I saw several for next time. The food is five stars. Pretzels- beer sponges, $7.50, warm and salty. Wings, two words: Tequila Lime. Eight big, juicy, saucy, tasty wings. Best in town I think. $13. Peggy O burger, big & tasty with fries, $15, house salad with grilled chicken, (1/2 order) $9. Salad was good & fresh but when was the last time you needed a cold fresh beer to wash down a bowl of lettuce? Think wings & burgers here. Total for 2 with a lot of food and a couple rounds of drinks. $65. Very good deal for excellent food and GREAT service. I tipped 25% maybe more. Came for lunch w my parents on a Saturday afternoon and it was packed. Fortunately we found an inside table and it was perfect. The Barrio Blond was delicious and had the chicken tacos--super tasty. My dad has the French dip that he killed and mom had burger she loved. She got the french fries beer battered and that was the way to go. Great place too if you want to watch a game. A gem if you're looking for some delicious local drafts. Definitely a hole in the wall in an industrial area, but brewery/restaurant is on point. The diversity of beers ranging from 5% ABV to 10% is great. They had a few sour beers available this time around. We went on a Wednesday and was pleasantly surprised by the wing special and the happy hour foods. The jalapeño wings are delicious!! No picture cause we dug right in. :) the service was great, our draft server was very knowledgeable and patient with us. Gave us a few tastes of the delicious beer. I usually have a burger or sandwich with fries when I visit, but they have great salads and happy hour deals also.. wings, potato skins, chicken strips.. etc On my recent visit I had the black & blue burger .. Cajun spice with Gorgonzola.. first of all it's huge! The menu says it's spicy.. I didn't think so. I paired it with a salad .. even though I wanted the fries.. because they are delicious .. as are the onion rings or beer battered fries.. I also enjoy their barrio margarita with Tajín rim. Came here today and the service sucks. possibly, just possibly it could be they had a dog wash event to raise money for an animal shelter so it was pretty crowded; still after 20 minutes of sitting with my friends I went and got the menus. I got us water and my friend a beer at the bar. Took forever to put the order in and forever to even pay the bill! We considered walking out without paying the bill but we were disciplined enough to hang on. Anyway, the beer was decent and the vegetable Panini was very tasty. The veggie Panini came with a basil walnut pesto, eggplant that was grilled along with a piece of havarti cheese. Decent. She had full command of our rowdy group and didn't seem to break a bead of sweat. The food was pretty good, too, as far as bar food goes. We came here when my family was all in town. I'm not a beer drinker, but my kids all tried some of the different beers and enjoyed all of them. They also commented that the prices were excellent for the beer. We ordered lunch, and my only complaint was that it took a long time for the food to come to the table. Since we weren't in a hurry, it was fine. I had a chicken panini that was full of flavorful ingredients and had a crispy crust. This place has killer beer, the food was above average bar food and definitely didn't disappoint. Service was good for a busy Sunday afternoon. The ambiance and atmosphere was a bit noisy but hey it's a sports bar and there were games a plenty while there. So no real complaints of this place. Solid 4 stars... I've had these beers around town but finally hit a chance to go to the source, and this joint was a hit! Started out with the coconut Porter, which is a seasonal, so I timed it right! Plenty of coconut flavor but not overpowering and all the goodness of a dark. For food we started out with the southwest eggrolls...smoky with the bean and corn chew...went well with ranch! Second round was the raspberry ale and the Ruben, and both were good! Crusty rye and house marinated meat made a great combo and went well with the light ale. My only compliant is the extra charge for extra dressing...c'mon man! I got the happy hour Fried pickles, jalapeño poppers, and the Lizzie salad (Romain lettuce with onion, bell pepper, chicken, bacon cheese, and you can get a half or full portion). I was surprised to see that it's within an old warehouse, pretty cool. I got the raspberry ale, which was just average. It is light with very minimal hints raspberry and left a weird aftertaste in my mouth. It's not bad, but not great either. As for food, I got the beer sponges and half a chicken caesar salad. The two soft pretzels were freshly baked, soft, and went really well with the honey mustard dipping sauce. Salad was standard and tasted just fine. Running around nearby my SO suggested this place. We checked out the website and not only did the food sound appetizing but they have "pandemic" specials named after our current state of being. Both of us got the beer battered fries and they suggested the Rojo beer. So the Diane was a generous size burger with fries. It's like a mushroom Swiss burger, It was tasty albeit a bit on the dry side. But good nonetheless. My Philly cheesesteak was not exactly what I expected. It was good, although it to was on the dry side. Not exactly what I consider a Philly but by a beef sandwich standard it was pretty good. Also a generous size sandwich. The fries were magnificent. Nicely seasoned not dry a bit crunchy. I liked them. And I'm not that much into fries. There's plenty of food to fill you up nicely. The Rojo beer was beertastic. I enjoyed it. It is an amber beer. My SO said it reminded him of a Mexican beer. I don't know but I do know I wouldn't mind having another and with a six pack for two, I did. All in all it was a nice meal. Okay, it shouldn't have taken a year of living in Tucson to make it here. But once we did, we liked it a lot. The beers are great, and at $5.25 a pint during happy hour (Dine-In Only Monday-Friday 3-7pm), a real bargain. The food isn't gourmet quality but good enough for the prices (e.g., $9 for a plain quesadilla or $13 for pub fried fish tacos with beans). And the 100%-employee owned element seems to make for happier, friendlier workers. And being a sucker for rusty corrugated steel, the funky vibe is fun. Nice work! read more
