Sweet 16 visit to catch Zags game and got excellent seat in front of the Screen El Gigante, maybe 10-ft, it's a biggie?! Short lived :/ bc someone at bar by server station wanted the Michigan game and switched channels, which was also linked to the Giant screen, boo! When the majority of crowd was focused on the big screen already, don't understand how servers didn't ask the customers obviously watching if they minded, which we did. Another lady asked the server and the above explanation was what they told him. Why not ask the 1-2 guys who wanted that game to move to the screen showing it? Rest of us left trying to peer over standing crowds, and servers back and fore, to watch the game on a single screen, now behind us...not how you should run a sports based bar as everyone picked their spots to watch the Big Screen and games in front of them, duh.
Now onto the food and brews bc that's obviously 2dary in this case lol. It's excellent, everything we were served was really exemplary for a 'sports bar' that brews or vice versa. Orders came out in 5 mins, super quick.
Hubby said it was the best burger he's had in a long long while, as it was cooked to temp, rare, ew but to each their own, and the beef was so tasty as they use USDA Prime quality, fresh ground chuck, and at 7oz, made an excellent bun-to-patty ratio. $14 Black and Blue, Cajun seasoned and gorgonzola topped, tom lettuce onion, +$1.50 to sub the frozen fries, for their tortilla soup was an outstanding upgrade. Thinner chix chile broth, medium-low heat, crispy tortilla strips add nice crunch, a smooth creamy scoop of avocado, and Monterey cheese melts in; large bowl next time!
Carnitas Tacos (2) $15 were so overstuffed with chili rubbed carnitas which had a hint of smokiness and moist without being drippy, cabbage slaw, habenero cream and Avo tomatillo sauce. Couldn't distinguish the 2 sauces but it made a super tasty bite, esp with the added squeeze of limes and fresh pico side, and relished the dreamy texture and perfectly grilled home made tortillas. Best flour ones I've had, larger than street tacos, about 6". The charro beans side have a spicier take than most, and ate them all. A crunchy few tortilla chips on the side would of make this plate even better.
Scottish Rojo brew, a coppery dark red, easy to drink with a lighter but still full body and nice bitter yet smooth finish. $4.50 with $1 off Happy Hr weekdays 3-7PM ;)
Asked server if there was a cocktail menu and she said No? but a full bar, just simple drinks she mentions... Also asked what ales they had and was directed to the main menu which simply listed the brews.. but spied a short menu at the server booth featuring both the Brews And 'Tails on a separate menu, so wh@t dat, eh? ...maybe she didn't know or couldn't be bothered?? Preferring hoppier IPAs it would of been really helpful to read the IBU's and the brewer's craft notes on the Beer menu, as the Rojo states, "showcases tones of brown sugar & toffee" which would of steered Hubby to something else.. she did however give us a sample of the Ruby but opted for the Rojo Scottish, turning out too sweet and lite for him. I really enjoyed it however, a great daytime brew with just enough body & bite, going down easy.
No desserts, coffee (except in your brew haha) or lower-sugar 'Buch, just RC flavors & cold tea for the non-alcohol options.
Quite a lot of seating in 2 bars plus outdoor covered walkway seating under shade. Several dogs hanging out with owners. Paved parking lot next door had just 1 spot left at 430PM and all spots gone on gravel shoulder, on other side of street. Again it was NCAA BXB Sweet 16 time, tables filled quickly after 5pm with work crowd & groups arriving to watch Wildcat game then. Pretty sure they dare not switch the Big Screen then for Duke fans lol.
Barrio Brewing is killing it on the grub but needs to re-school themselves on their Giant screen prioritizing etiquette. ; / oh and please make some simple syrup & get bitters for Old Fashioneds, classics are big time like that Screen ;) read more
