Had a decent experience here. Went for my Birthday and the food was great, we had the gnocchi and the rack of lamb and they were cooked very well. We also did the mussels as an app and it was awesome. The food and wine was reasonably priced for such a nice place. The interior was small and intimate and made for a very cozy feel. I gave it 3 stars based on poor service. Our waitress rushed us from the second we sat down and continuously made us feel like she was trying to turn over the table. When we asked her for recommendations she would cut us off and say "so that then?". She also brought or check almost alongside out entrees. We were some of the younger ones in the restaurant l and our waitress certainly made us feel less important. Sad because we'd heard such great things! read more

The food was very good as well as the service, but they ripped us off on the tip which was automatically included in the bill. They added 20% to the total including tax. Just went to Barrington's Restaurant last evening for the first time. It was my husband's recommendation but I was a bit hesitant. The website showed a wonderful menu but I had a feeling it would be stuffy and pretentious- I had a library feeling in mind where you have to whisper your conversation across the table. How far from the truth! This restaurant is small and warm and intimate. It is not just a great date place, it is a great place to bring friends with you too. The food was tasty, well prepared and timely. I found the food and the ambience all around delightful. I hope to become a regular! read more

Barrington's is one of my all time favorites. The staff is great - front of the house and back. Although Barrington's is really expensive (face it) it is worth every penny. The food is exceptional, drinks well prepared, service is very good. I love the pastas - homemade tagliatelle and rigatoni. The PEI mussels are wonderful. Everything is good. The environment is very intimate, very special. There are no inexpensive wines by glass but the wbg they do offer is very good. If you are solo, sit at the bar - you'll have a very nice experience. read more

Went here for a special occasion, and was excepting to hold it in the same regard as McNinch house and other amazing places in Charlotte. Barringtons was a really good meal, but not quite the excellent meal I was excepting. The food seemed to be hit or miss, depending upon the order (foie gras was outstanding, salad was sub-par). Entrance is in a weird spot and if it's your first visit it's going to a bit awkward, but keep walking towards the light because once seated and you're eating this food you'll get it. Very tasty and portions sizes are right on par with what is suppose to be normal. It's a bit pricey but I in no way walked out feeling like I paid to much for the delicious meal my wife and I had. Good blend of Mediterranean cuisine with noticable, French, Spanish, Maltese and Italian influences. Must have been an off night. My app was a tad fishy, duck and veal main courses looked the same and were mixed up on presentation. Food was slow to be delivered in general. Meh. That's how my wife and I would explain Barrington's as we came here after much hype for our anniversary dinner. The waiter wanted to hang out and be our bud, the atmosphere made you feel like you were in a strip mall sans the white tablecloth, and the food was very good. I heard great reviews of this place, so I was eager to take my girlfriend here for a special occasion. The restaurant Is quite small and there is no place to stand if you are waiting to be seated on a busy night. We stood by the bar and werent greeted for 10 minutes. Also, We had 8:30 reservations and were seated by 9:15. There is one woman who runs the checkins there, however she was also the bartender and a food runner. The whole checkin process was terrible and chaotic. Food is excellent here though. We started with the mussels in white wine that were garnished with some deliciously fresh tomatoes that you could tell were locally grown. My girlfriend ordered the chicken which was one of the better chicken dishes I've ever had. It was lightly fried to perfection. I ordered the "tag", which is a pasta with prosciutto, mushrooms, and green peas in a rich cream sauce. It was excellent. Overall, the food deserved merit, but the service was not good. Our server spoke with us maybe three times the whole evening and made me consider breaking my 20 percent rule. read more

As a chef and foodie from Boston, Barrington came very highly recommended and we were happy to get a table on a Saturday night. The overall experience didn't disappoint - very good food, good service and a nice wine list. We started with mussels which were in a wonderfully spicy chili sauce, which could have used some bread except for my gluten-intolerant guest. I had the mixed green salad with french fries which were very good, though under seasoned (much like all of the courses). Nice start. My guest had the flounder - perfectly seared, done a little over to our liking, but on a serviceable base of black-eyed peas and green pistou. Again, under seasoned, which was surprising based on Chef's background. My bison short-rib was fall-apart delicious, though it was missing a promised panini; a substitute side salad was stuck on the plate instead - weird. I think the service staff mistook my guest's gluten allergy for mine and made the substitutions on my plate, or maybe did it on both plates as to not have any gluten on the table? My bison had no counter texture, no crisp on the plate, and I assume the panini would have been that element. Deserts were good, chocolate flourless cake for my guest, pop tart for me. Good solid meal. Service was a bit off - we made the reservation for a birthday dinner, my guest being gluten free. First thing the server did was give us bread for my guest - no mention of the request for no flour items. Minor, but when it's made ahead of time, a request should be followed-through on. Nit picky? For $72 a person, it should be expected. Other than that, a very good meal. Bison was cooked spot on. Everything could use a little more seasoning to my liking. Make special requests work seamlessly (which is why we call ahead), and this is a five star review. read more

We had a family dinner 3/12/2010... we ate a bit late at 8:30 pm but the place was still busy...the homemade hot bread was great...3 of the 4 of us had an artichoke soup with black truffle cream and a little maine lobster...just wonderful and served very hot for all...a well done arugula salad with fresh apples and goat cheese completed our first course...we all had something different for dinner...I had a pot pie with saddle and loin of rabbit and it was amazingly well done, hot, flavorful and rich...my wife had parmasean gnocchi with veal....my younger daughter had tagliatelle with mushrooms, cream and english peas and my older daughter had beef bourguignon with Pomme Anna, bacon lardon and winter vegetables and braise reduction....all were excellent....service was very good and friendly...we brought wine in ('99 Clos de Tart) and paid the $20 corkage without hesitation...stemware was fair/adequate but not great...the only detractor from the whole experience was the fairly loud environment Overall this was a great experience ... total bill (with 2 glasses of Latour Chardonnay) was a little over $200 read more

I took my wife here for her birthday; our second attempt after a prior bad experience. Our server was relentless in upselling us on a salad or appetizer, even going down to half sizes after we politely declined several times. They also returned my check to sign but without my credit card, accused me of losing it and insisted in front of other patrons that I double check all of my pockets and my wallet. After several awkward moments they finally found it and admitted to dropping it on the floor behind the bar (with no apologies to us for making us feel like criminals). I chose this restaurant based off its Yelp reviews. Wow, they were not kidding about this place being small! I think my living room is bigger. In total, there were only 9 groups in the entire place and they were at capacity and we were less than a foot away from the group dining next to us (who were rather uppity and kept looking at us as if we were intruding on their dining experience by sitting near them) so I understand why they require reservations. I would say the average age of the people dining was around 50-60+. I felt a little young being there, but I wasn't treated that way by the staff, it was more from the patrons, who I think were a little full of themselves (most had that 'I'm SO important' vibe going on.) I did not get the pretentious air at all from the staff that I was expecting while I was at the restaurant, but I did while making the reservation (don't contact them online or leave a message, they don't call you back and the people on the phone aren't very pleasant -they were even snippy when we called to confirm the reservation). I had the shrimp with the cole slaw and corn bread for an appetizer. While it sounds like an odd mix, I was actually sad when I finished it. I don't even like cole slaw and I was tempted to start licking my plate just to get the last parts that I couldn't pick up with my fork. For my main course I had the chicken with spinach and mashed potatoes. Yum. Yum. Yum. Everything had so much flavor and tasted fresh. All of us at the table ordered something different and every serving was met with mmm's to near moaning so I think my entire party was pleased with their meal. The food is excellent and the portions are large (the mussels appetizer could be a meal) so you aren't left feeling hungry and bitter and when the $$$ check shows up. We never felt rushed and the evening was very relaxing and pleasant. We even got to meet the chef/owner Bruce, who is very friendly, which was an added plus. read more

Our waitress was not attentive... We waited over 30 min to order drinks and then waited again to order our meal. The food was good ( not great). Barrington's is my favorite restaurant in Charlotte, and quite possibly, just my favorite restaurant, period. My parents moved to the area in 2000 from the NYC/NJ area, and we were on the hunt for that "special" restaurant for our Christmas eve dinners and other special occasions. When we found Barrington's, they did not disappoint. When I am in town from NYC, we always make it a point to go to Barrington's. It's our family tradition. The atmosphere is lovely, the food is spot on, and the servers are great - they always seem to remember our preferences. It's things like that that make this place so special. My 2 favorite things about Barrington's - First, they do unique things with salads. I wouldn't say I ever "look forward" to salad at a restaurant, but here I do. The flavors are always inventive and surprising - things I probably wouldn't normally lean towards, but somehow, it works. Second, The Chocolate Pudding Cake. A tried and true classic, and I don't think I've ever not ordered it here. My one complaint: I could probably easily eat 2 servings...not a terrible problem to have! If you are a Charlotte resident or just visiting, go to Barrington's. You will definitely leave satisfied. read more

This was my first time at Barrington's and we'll definitely be back. We had a reservation and were seated promptly upon arrival. Great location for a nice quiet evening, date night or other. We started with the cauliflower soup and it was hot and delicious. We decided to split a small portion of the rigatoni pasta and wish we would of gotten the full size as it was amazing. Four our entree's my daughter had the braised short ribs and I had the pork chop. Both were beyond expectations and first time I've seen a pork chop sliced and served against the bone; great idea and presentation was top notch. We decided to give the trio of cream brûlée a whirl for our dessert and we should of skipped that. A trio of Peanut Butter, white chocolate and banana. The banana tasted like smashed bananas and the peanut butter and white chocolate were just OK. The service was great, food was hot and overall a great evening for us foodies! read more

The prices here are way to expensive for the tiny portions and quality of food. I ordered a grouper entree for $35 and I swear there was no more than a tablespoon size portion of fish on a 3x3x3" mound of entree. This table of 4 paid a $30 corkage fee for a BYOB, 4 entrees, 2 appetizers and 1 dessert for $254 including tip. Nice atmosphere and the help was attentive. My advice to the chef - you're good but step up the portion sizes and make customers feel like they are getting value for the expensive entree prices. read more

This is the best restauraunt I have eaten at in Charlotte. The food is really world class. The small 20 table dining room really makes it feel very warm and personable. Chef Bruce Moffett really pays attention to detail when preparing his dishes. Their signature starter in my oppinion are the mussels, very simple, and have always been perfectly cooked. You can't go wrong wrong with any of the main dishes, I especially like the roasted Halibut, and this is a restauraunt worth ordering the chicken dish(pan seared with creamy potatoes, sounds plain but is very delicious). Despite the wonderful and top notch food, I doubt we will be back. The service was ok, when I asked for my mixed green salad without turnips the waitress challenged me that I should get them. I politely re-requested that my salad be served the way I requested. We were rushed to order entrees along with our bottle of wine. Seemed like they were in a rush to turn over our table which they were success at since we were out in an hour. Now we choose to go elsewhere for dessert since the noise level in the restaurant was so high I couldn't hear my husband talk. I can't fault the chef, the food was wonderful but when I go out for a quality dinner, I don't want to be rushed and I would like to hear the conversation of those I am with. Upon arrival the staff was unable to locate our reservation in spite of a conifrmation voice mail on our phone, and a follow up phone call. After being treated as though we were not welcome, we were reluctantly seated, and felt rushed through the whole meal. Our party of four had mixed reviews of the food, some of which may have been set off by the poor service, but also concerns over value for the money. In the end, we felt we could find just as good food elsewhere for a lower price and far far better service. People want an all around good culinary experience, not one in which the staff provides attitude. read more

We really wanted to love Barrington's - truly we did - but we were disappointed on a recent visit...the negatives far outweighed the positives. positives: charming setting, excellent service...friendly, attentive, and gracious without being pretentious, quality ingredients, and a few high spots: wonderful fresh corn soup with lobster, beautifully cooked and delicate veal tenderloin, good bread with a nice quality olive oil and balsamic dip. negatives: Dishes were almost universally oversalted (particularly the breading on the crispy quail, but also the gnocchi with its ragu of veal and porcini); the sesame crust on our foie gras was burned, our waitress told us that the kitchen's kale was a "little" spicy --- holy heat! the kale was hot enough to kill the delicate flavor of that beautifully cooked sliced veal tenderloin; the veal and porcini sauce was extremely heavy, the veal pieces tasted like overcooked stew meat, and far too much Parmesan was grated on top. Plus, the restaurant's noise level makes conversation almost impossible. Wish we could give a higher rating. P.S. A recent visit to their sister restaurant (Good Food on Montford) gave us a uniformly superior experience with no significant negatives. We hope that our dinner at Barrington's was just an anomaly, but, as the saying goes, you are only as good as your last croissant. read more

We had a friend visiting from California and it was her birthday. She wanted to eat somewhere "fancy". I recommended a few places I had been to before but she decided to do a little looking around on the internet and found Barrington's. We made a reservation for 5:30. They open at 5:30 and we arrived a few minutes early the stares we received from the staff were appalling like we were not good enough to eat there. They rudely told us we had to leave. I understand that they were busy trying to get things together but the door should have been left locked or at least they could have politely asked us to come back in a few minutes while they prepared to open. We walked around the shopping center for a few minutes and when we returned it was as if it were a hassle for us to be there. We sat down for just a few minutes then decided to leave. I am not going to pay that much for a meal and be treated like I don't deserve to be there. I have been to many fine dining restaurants around Charlotte and never once have I been treated like that. I know I am not the typical fine dining patron but my money is as good as anyone else's. It was a shame because we were all really excited to try this place and we won't be going back. read more

We went to Barrington's for our wedding anniversary on a Wednesday night. It looked like a Geritol fest in the restaurant. We wanted to split an entree but the server said they had European sized portions - I ate 1/4 of my lamb. The carrot cheesecake desert was not good - we ate 2 bites and were not offered a refund or substitution. Never again. What a waste of money. read more
