131 MAIN is probably one of my favorite restaurants in South Charlotte. For the quality of the food and the price, I really think it's a great deal. The food is consistently good and the customer service is always good too. On this visit, I mentioned that it was my birthday and they surprised me with a dessert. It was such a courteous and kind gesture and truly made my birthday feel a little more special. I've actually been asked before what my favorite restaurant is in South Charlotte because so many of Charlotte's really good restaurants are Uptown or in other parts of the city. Every single time, my answer is 131 MAIN. The quality, price, service, and consistency keep me coming back. Definitely one of my South Charlotte favorites. read more

We ordered the margarita, espresso martini, shrimp cocktail, salmon, crab cakes, mashed potatoes, and deviled eggs, and honestly, every single thing was spectacular. Everything was flavorful, beautifully prepared, and exceeded our expectations. The drinks were delicious, the seafood was fresh, and the sides were just as impressive as the entrees. I truly have zero complaints. I stumbled upon this restaurant after searching Yelp for restaurants located near our hotel and this one had good reviews and appetizing pictures. We are glad that we came. We came on a Saturday for lunch & the restaurant was a little packed but we were able to be seated right away. The business was clean and spacious with multiple tables and booths. Our servers were attentive & helpful. We ordered the half slab of danish baby back ribs. I got fries & deviled eggs with my meal. I was able to swap out the coleslaw for the eggs. The eggs were topped with bacon and tasted good. The fries were hot, tasted good, & were seasoned well. The ribs were so tender that they fell off of the bones when I put a fork next to them. We were also given hot towels with our meal. We also got an order of the cast iron cornbread. It contained corn & Jalapeños and was served hot. The cornbread was served with honey and was good. I treated one of my best friends to a birthday dinner at 131 Main. She had been wanting to try it. I loved the ambiance of the restaurant. It was very nice and upscale. For our meals we had the pork chops with smashed potatoes and the ribs with the magic mountain green beans and French fries. The ribs were a little salty but they were good and tender. The green beans were good, but should have been cooked a little longer. They were too crunchy for me. They had bacon on them. For her birthday they let her select a complimentary dessert. She picked the strawberry shortcake. It was pretty good, but I didn't enjoy the biscuit I would have preferred a sponge cake or pound cake. Oren was the BEST waiter- very attentive and available but not too much. Our food was delicious my husband got the dry aged ribeye pitsburg style and it was cooked perfectly. I got the crab cakes and I see why it is $50 because it is a good amount of meat - not breading. The cornbread skilled is always a classic it could of been a little crisper on the edges but I enjoyed it. The reason I did not give 5 starts is because as I was leaving I saw they had a 90 score. Not sure why it is that low but I'm sure they are working on it. The bathroom was clean, the inside is a nice size but I do recommend a reservation as we went on a Wednesday and it was packed. Started off with the 131 Mainiac beverage. I love that they infused their name into the drink. It was so refreshing and such a great way to start the meal. I would highly advised starting your meal off with 2. The cornbread was delicious and you must pour the honey all over it to truly enjoy it. It's a huge portion and shareable for up to 4 without needing another order. The crab cakes were an absolutely highlight. When they say Maryland style, they aren't lying. I'm from Maryland and I approve of these crab cakes for everyone to try. The restaurant itself is huge and dimly lit for a very nice enjoyable dining experience. It is located in Southpark and with all the other restaurant choices in the area, it needs to stand out. The food and service was outstanding. We were seated promptly for our reservation. My husband had the steak and smashed potatoes. He loved the steak but the potatoes had an odd flavor likely due to the olive oil they poured on top to finish. I had the Cajun Blackened Chicken pasta and it arrived piping hot and tasty and a huge portion! We also both started with the Main salad with blue cheese vinaigrette. I've always heard of this restaurant over the years but had never been. When my friend suggested it for a celebratory lunch I obliged. The hostess acknowledged the celebration on check in. I enjoyed the candlelight atmosphere, and relaxed lighting. The service was great with frequent check ins, and detailed review of the menu, and hidden menu items . We devoured the deviled eggs so quick I couldn't snap a pic. I got the chef special Halibut with crab sauce which was perfectly cooked. My friend had the Caesar salad with steak. This is one of my favorite restaurants anytime I'm in Charlotte love sitting at the bar unbelievable cocktails, tremendous bartenders and great locals. The food is fantastic. Try everything from the appetizers through all of the main dishes and you won't be disappointed. It's also cool that they do the half price Whinn Knight, which I tried to always catch when I'm in town but mainly get there early. After ordering we inquired about the room temp and were only then told the air conditioner was not working. We would have appreciated knowing that beforehand. I had a hard time deciding on the number here... I wish I could have rated 3.5 stars to be more accurate? Many years ago, I used to go to 131 Main in Blakeney frequently since it was my ex-friend's favorite restaurant. I remember liking the restaurant, but not quite loving it. Anyway, guess I got bored with their foods in that I haven't returned in years. Fast forward to now, and I felt that my husband would like the place, so thought I'd give this newer (?) South Park location a try. The place itself looked quite nice. Usually I prefer high ceilings, but this place with its low ceiling (yet very, very spacious!) had this cool, underground vibe. The thing that was greatly lacking in ambiance was the overhead music was playing so low that you could barely hear it. Yet you could hear every little thing said by folks around us. Somewhat created a crude ambiance...not "nice" at all! Then the menu...surprisingly very small, with only a handful of options. I could be wrong, but I thought they had an extensive menu long time ago? Anyway, they did have a few appetizing items. My husband decided on Rotisserie Chicken, and I got their Blackened Chicken Pasta. We also added this special side of the day, this sweet curry corn. We also tried their Key Lime Pie. Well, we both thought the entrees were good (though I thought my dish was a tad too thick and greasy in its cream sauce?), and the corn was especially delish...but the key lime pie was really, really bad (the only good part was the graham crackers). Some disappointments definitely included the presentation. Basically the foods looked as if they were just slapped unto the plates, with no effort made in presentation. Also, despite the hefty pricing, they didn't even offer complimentary bread. For these reasons, I can't drop 4 stars. BTW, I tried Aperol Spritz for the first time, and absolutely loved it!! This is where I wanted to go up half stars (to a 3.5 rating!). Service was very friendly, and did fine overall. However, the place was so big, the waitresses were hard to spot (vice versa), so just a tad less attentive than it could have been. Just as in the distant past, I liked, but didn't quite love the place and its foods. I remember thinking that it was very similar to Firebirds. We may try the new Firebirds in South Charlotte soon, and see how they compare. Though not blown over, we DID like the foods enough to return. Hopefully next time, the ambiance and presentation improves at least...so I can bump them up to 4 stars. read more

I went here for a birthday dinner and it was a really pleasant experience. The spot was dimly lit which helped give that expensive vibe, but it wasn't so dark that you couldn't see each other or the menu. Our waitress Kat was absolutely kind and made our experience amazing by being down to earth and funny while giving us GREAT recommendations. We had the smoked salmon appetizer along with the cornbread and let me tell you--that cornbread will change lives. That was the best thing I had while I was there. Followed closely by my main entree: shrimp and grits. If you get this, get the shrimp blackened, it adds so much flavor and will leave your mouth watering. Took my husband here for his birthday and it did not disappoint! Our Server, Kat, was amazing and recommend some appetizers. We decided to try the Smoke Salmon and the Cast Iron Corn Bread. The Smoked Salmon was amazing- if you like medium cooked salmon and the Cast Iron Corn Bread was AMAZING! It had a hint of spice to it yet was sweet. We then got the Maryland Crab Cakes & Southern Shrimp & Grits. My Crab cakes were full of crab so definitely a good choice. My husband's Shrimp & Grits were super flavorful. 131 MAIN is perfection. It reminds me of a better Houston's or Hillstone; if anyone is familiar with those restaurants. The menu is very reminiscent of those restaurants but the quality at 131 MAIN is WAY better. We recently took my in laws and mom there on a Sunday for a family lunch/brunch. Now they don't have an actual brunch menu, but I opted to have shrimp and grits with a dirty martini. BEFORE YALL COME FOR ME, MARTINI AT BRUNCH IS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA, OKAY LOL. Probably top three shrimp and grits I've ever had. The tasso ham compliments it so well that I asked for extra! I've also been here quite a bit during the holiday season after shopping at Southpark and just wanted to treat myself. The filet was CHEFS KISS. The ambiance is nice if you want to embark on a solo visit at the bar. The staff is friendly as well. They do have a front and back waiter, so you never feel neglected. The food runners also stopped by to pre-bus and clear anything out of our way. We really enjoy 131! Does not disappoint! read more

One of our favorite Charlotte restaurants, the 131 Main in SouthPark serves up delicious steaks, seafood and sandwiches in an casually elegant setting that will have you coming back again and again. Their Prime Rib Sandwich is one of the best in town, dripping with flavorful juices and impossible to put down. The seafood dishes I've had here have all been fabulous, and tasted as fresh as if they had been served straight off the boat. 131 Main also has an excellent wine and liquor selection, and bar prices are surprisingly reasonable. In fact, the entire menu is an outstanding value compared to many other Charlotte restaurants I've visited -- my wife and I usually enjoy an appetizer, a pair of entrees, cocktails and a bottle of wine for under $250, including tip. Service has been wonderful on each of our visits, and the restaurant's warm, understated ambiance makes it the perfect spot for everything from a date night to an evening out with friends. We arrived for our 7pm reservation and were promptly seated. Amanda was our sever. She was kind enough. Alright, let's dive in.... One thing I didn't particularly care for was that my entree came with fries (crab cakes). I asked if I could possibly get a 1/2 portion of shrimp and grits. Not an option. I was offered shrimp and grits with a single crab cake on the side. I wanted the two crab cakes--- the only option was the shrmp and grits with a $44 up charge. No thank you. Glancing down the menu, I noticed there were white cheddar grits. I requested that in lieu of the fries and wondered why that not offered as a "compromise" of sorts...I digress. The crab cakes were ok. Sort of wished that I did do the shrimp and grits with a crab cake on the side. There is a crunchy top layer that I am not accustomed to nor was not fond of. The grits are good. They got even better with a sprinkle of the truffle salt I keep in my bag *wink*. All in all, my meal was meh. The ambiance was nice and dimly light which made it very comfortable and perhaps cozy for those on a date night. I actually would recommend this spot for date night. Although my first impression was not the greatest meal-wise. My son enjoyed his meal immensely (filet with fries instead of the smashed red potatoes). We had a great experience!!! I love the ambiance, it's dark lit but small lamps at each table so it isn't too dark. Perfect for date night but also not too romantic so it's also good for a group/work dinner. The menu is very diverse with things from pasta, to fish, to ribs to chicken etc. everything we got was delicious!! They even have several options for dessert that were splitting size. We got the banana cream pie and it was really good- not too banana at all. The ribs also came with wet towels- a very nice touch! The portion sizes were all huge and we all got to go boxes. The best part was the service. The waiters were very attentive and seemed to genuinely care. They were also very knowledgeable on the specials and the menu. They were personable as well. When getting a to go box, they boxed it up for us but made sure to write what was inside on the box. It was fresh and delicious and I would highly recommend it if you were looking for a healthier lunch that is also filling. Our server was extremely attentive. Like an old money fine dining spot or a date night for a proposal. I was with my adult kids, so it was a bit formal for our tastes. Food - 8.5 On point, as usual. Crab cakes - all meat, no filler with a delicious mustard sauce Grilled artichokes - simple but perfect. I never miss an opportunity to order them. The wood fire grill gives them that little something extra. Thai Steak Salad - another yummy reliable choice just the righy blend of char, sweet, crunch, and herbal notes. All on top pf perfectly cooked noodles. The only version i like better is Houstons in Atlanta Baby back ribs - good sauce and fall off the bone tender. My little Oklahoman heart shed a little tear of gratitude. French dip - Good with great fries. It was what it was. Crème Brûlée - yummy custard but the sugar wasn't quite flambéd enough so the sugar was more gritty than crispy in spots. Overall 8.8 This is a reliable staple in my rotation. Tried to make a reservation for Mother's Day. The website channels me to Resy. Resy indicated there were no available reservation reservations, but that I would be put on a "to notify list." I called the restaurant on Mother's Day to see if there was anyway I could get off the "to notify list." After getting put on hold someone said there was no record that I was ever on the list. I've been to this restaurant multiple times and I've been a loyal customer. No one likes to be trifled with, especially loyal customers. read more
