Eggplant sandwich
Jonathan L.

Located downtown Fairfax in a really cool neighborhood. There is a big parking lot across the street with free parking. The cafe is right on the corner. We were able to get a table in the morning without any reservations. Ordered: 1. Corned beef breakfast: I liked my corned beef and i liked that it was in big chunks rather than it being really fine strips were it's soggy and mixed into hash browns. It was seasoned well and went well with the potatos. Also cooked my poached eggs well! 2. Egg Plant sandwich: My wife really liked this and the eggplant wasn't too muchy but also very flavorful. Overall, service was good and they were polite and attentive. Clean restaurant. The prices on their website isn't reflective of their menu however and it's more expensive on the updated menu in the restaurant. They also do have more options in the restaurant as well. Solid breakfast choice in Fairfax.

Excellent selections for breakfast & brunch. We needed to find s new breakfast place and Barefoot Cafe won our hearts. The food was hot, delicious and plentiful as well. But the service was impeccable. We appreciate you, BC!! Thank you!

A wonderful breakfast in the adorable little town of Fairfax. This is a very clean restaurant that is nicely decorated and very comfortable. Their menu is well rounded and the service was both attentive and thoughtful. I'm sure the lunch and dinner experience is equally good, and I'm excited to return soon. 5 stars.

Chilaquiles, banana pecan waffle and a cappuccino

Food was pretty good but extremely pricey for what I got (chilaquiles, waffle and cappuccino). Nice, lively location with outdoor seating and the waiting staff were all really nice, but most likely will not be coming back.

Great Warm Spinach Salad

The salads here are really exceptional. I had the Warmed Spinach Salad, which includes bacon and mushrooms. It's incredible! The light dressing and generous amount of spinach made it one of the best I've ever had. Highly recommended!

The service here is amazing ! They're kind and quick with service. I got the burger the chef make the food amazing and they have cute little table decorations. I got an espresso martini and it was great

Chicken Marsala

We stopped in for a quick and simple dinner but we were so pleasantly surprised! The food was incredible! The chicken Marsala (shown), New York steak with herb and lime butter (so unexpected and delicious), rack of lamb and bucatini with meatballs were all extraordinary! Ty was our waiter and was friendly, knew everything about the menu, and gave us great suggestions! Perfect evening out! Highly recommend this place

Pappardelle pasta

The food was absolutely phenomenal, some of the best pasta I've ever had. And such an amazing price with huge proportions !! The staff were so kind and talkative and the service was so quick. The place also had such an amazing vibe with all the plants and decorations. The best restaurant I've been to in the local area and will 100% come back next time in around here.

Barefoot Special
Benjamin C.

Barefoot Café I've always driven by Fairfax but have never stopped for a bit until today! Coming back from a backpacking trip from point Reyes I was starving. I got the Barefoot Special (20.95), which came with sautéed mushrooms, onions, and blue cheese. The portion was generous, with a hefty 1/2 pound of meat, but it was a bit too overbearing for my taste. The side Caesar salad was a nice touch, adding a refreshing balance to the meal. The sautéed mushrooms were done well and added a good depth of flavor. Solid meal overall. Staff were wonderful as well. I don't think I've ever had a burger that filling.

What are the glutton free options at the barefoot cafe in fairfax ca?

When we were there , they dio d not have any specific glutton free menu items, however when we inquired, they said they could easily drum up a glutton free version of most items on the menu and they did so for two of our party.

Having visited New Orleans earlier this year, I was so excited to try this place! As soon as I walked in, I felt like I was transported back to NOLA! There were beads hanging and Mardi Gras decorations throughout the restaurant. Since it was a weekday, there was no wait and we had our choice of sitting inside or out. We opted for inside. Our server was warm and friendly, bringing us water promptly. We started off with an order of beignets. It arrived with three big pieces. They were freshly fried and doused in powdered sugar. So good! My daughter ordered the chicken and waffles, while I decided to try the everything gumbo. The chicken and waffles was huge! It came with several pieces of fried chicken that was topped with freshly minced garlic and came with a homemade spicy sauce. My daughter loved it! I tried a bite and thought it was tasty as well. She ended up taking half of it home. The everything gumbo was also delicious! It was a little thin in my opinion, but the flavor was amazing! It was truly authentic and I could taste all the seafood that was in it. I finished my entire bowl! Unlike the chicken and waffle, it was appropriately sized. When I went to pay the bill, there was a sign that said "free beignets if you pay cash." So of course, I paid our bill in cash! Luckily, I had enough cash on me. Can't pass up a deal like that! All in all, it was a very enjoyable meal! If I'm ever in the area, I'd definitely go back to The Hummingbird!

There's street parking, but we parked across the street in the lot by the music shop (it's closed on weekends, which makes it even easier). Zero stress before carbs -- we love to see it. It has that super local, neighborhood energy where everyone clearly knows exactly what they're ordering before they even walk in. Always a good sign. The bread basket? Unreal. The soup was divine -- comforting, flavorful, and exactly what you want on a cozy day. And the bread somehow manages to feel indulgent and wholesome at the same time. Warm, hearty, and clearly made with care. The space itself is just as inviting -- warm, relaxed, and effortlessly charming. And the pastries... they looked dangerous in the best way. I didn't even get one this time, which honestly just means I'm definitely coming back for round two. Already planning my next visit.

My "Soft Scramble" was a pile of astonishment. It was so unrefined that it was an insult the the ingredients. There was nothing soft about the eggs, they were overcooked. The only thing soft on the plate was the watery run-off from the vegetables they heaped into the eggs: Too many chewy mushrooms and HUGE. Too many cherry tomatoes. I had to dig to find the eggs. The leeks were strips of inedible ribbon. The toast? I think it had been toasted yesterday and left on the top of their oven overnight and then reused today. I had to get up from the table and ask for butter to make it edible and still I worried whether I was going to break a crown. The pickled vegetables? Again, HUGE, hard and barely pickled. I will refrain from criticizing the service because they are all unaware of the nightmare in which they are working. Bless their hearts. I was so sad and annoyed. People think they can buy a restaurant with recipes and wholesale accounts and staff and just run it, "business as usual" but they are wrong. I went in and asked if they had sold the restaurant and was told, "yes." I imagine some tech-bro's wife or some hedgefund community doodler wanted a pet project with zero idea about food or food quality or how to treat and retain employees because what happened to MHBB is astonishing. It's rude and insulting to anyone who opened this restaurant and put in their best to keep the name and claim to be catering to the same people. But then again, this is par for the course or, from my vantage point, everything wrong with what's happened in Marin in a nutshell. Faux authenticity. Zero care. This is now all about the money. I will never bother with it again.

Whatever we lacked in Korean or Ethiopian fare we made up for with an abundance of restaurants specializing in food from France and Italy. Amelie Cafe and Wine Bar continues the tradition and I'm not mad about it. With outposts in both San Francisco and New York City, Amelie sports a nice pedigree. The Fairfax location is dialed down a bit - perfect for the neighborhood it serves - and makes for a comfortable place to enjoy any meal however you might happen to appear that day. It's a simple cafe and, though not inexpensive, certainly less so than a trip to Paris. Two of us recently dined here, late afternoon on a weekend, sharing a burger ($23; comes with fries and a salad), a lager ($8; they have no IPA), and boquerones, the latter of which I fully regretted having to share. Whenever I see boquerones ($12) on a menu I cannot look away and in Marin, finding such an offering is a unicorn. Delicious; I might sneak back over solo just to enjoy them again. The burger and fries were also good, with a profile a bit different than what one would get at a non-French-centric spot. Amelie is a good place to drop in before or after a movie or a show in Fairfax and equally wonderful to pop into for a morning coffee drink or an afternoon glass of wine. It's a casual and a perfect fit for Fairfax.
