I went here for a friend's birthday dinner and had the best time. This restaurant is in the German Village so street parking is available and free. The decor was pretty and the outside seating area was stunning. We were immediately helped once everyone arrived. We got in drink orders and then shared appetizers. The appetizers chosen were garlic shrimp, olives, and potato crisps. They were all so airy and delicious! The highlight was the Paella de Mariscos Negra (Seafood Squid Ink Paella). It was amazinggg. The squid ink was a rich flavor that's hard to describe and all the seafood in it was cooked perfectly and added to the flavor. This place is kind of pricey, but delicious. The only complaint I have is that it took a while for our food to be ready and even longer for the check. Besides that, it was a good experience. read more

Who would think you'd find a great Spanish restaurant in the middle of Columbus' German district? Our team was in town for a conference. We'd had German the night before and we were going to try something else. Turns out Barcelonas was the right choice. We arrived ahead of our reservation but got seated relatively quickly. Drinks arrived shortly after ordering. I chose a Riesling. I suspected it would go well. A dryer wine might have been a little better, but I do prefer sweet and fruity white wines. I chose the special tasting menu. It started with a cheese plate with some crostini, Manchego, and a delightful blue cheese. That was some damn good cheese! A third cheese I couldn't identify was equally good. The compressed cube of fig was also tasty. The second course was one of the few missteps in the night. A waiter who was not our own delivered the ceviche (marinated fish and vegetables) to the center of the table. It got largely devoured by my tablemates before I realized it was mine! I did get a bite and it was tasty. I would have willingly shared, but I wish I had just a little more....lol. The third course was fried green tomatoes. Also yummy, the goat cheese was another highlight here. The fourth and fifth courses came together as a sort of entree. Four consisted of housemade chorizo, pickles and mustard. Five was duck with carrot and cherry gremolata. The chorizo dish was great. The duck, mostly disappointing. There were only 2 maybe 3 tiny slices. And the cherry overwhelmed. Maybe if I had more ceviche I wouldn't have been disappointed by the duck portion. Oh well. Dessert was a peach crumble that was plenty good. I entertained ordering the Burnt Basque cake too but I suspect it would have taken a while and everyone else was finishing up. The service was good although the frequency of dishes arriving was a bit uneven, and there was the matter of the misdelivered ceviche! I loved the decor. It's a paella party on a pretty patio! That is how I would best describe the overall vibe at Barcelona.....and it is truly a vibe. Transports you right out of Columbus in the best way. I stopped in here for dinner while in the area. I sat at the bar and luckily it was during the 4-6pm happy hour. The staff was great and personable. I had a couple glasses of wine and the Caesar salad was fantastic! Big portion and the good white anchovies (not the dehydrated gray ones from a can). Fantastic. Very easy system to make an online reservation! We were able to be seated outside on the patio on a nice day. The atmosphere is lovely with nice decorations inside and out. We were able to find free parking just around the block. The workers were all so friendly and helpful with recommendations on the menu. There were many different wines to choose from and I enjoyed the red wine that I ordered. My family and I split 6 different small tapas. We enjoyed them all and loved the option to try an assortment of different foods. We ordered bread that came with a great tomato vinaigrette. All the dishes had wonderful flavors and spices. The empanadas were great and loved the sauce they came with. We also ordered some tuna and salmon that were both very fresh. The atmosphere is much more casual than years past. But the food is still delicious and the service attentive. They volume is a low hum and there is indoor and outdoor seating. I would plan to valet personally but there is parking available nearby, likely a couple of blocks of walk. The food is tapas mostly and the prices are in the upper middle range. Lots of flavor and some of the meals are a bit adventurous which I love but I would check the menu ahead if you are taking a picky boring friend(I don't keep friends that are picky but I know you might.) I stopped by Barcelona for their happy hour. Happy hour is available at the elegant bar before 6pm on weekdays. They offer $6 drinks and discounts on small plates. The drink menu is extensive, with many classics and more creative options. I had the Marcona almonds and the red hummus. Both were pretty solid - the hummus and vegetables were fresh and flavorful. Barcelona has the best food, vibes, drinks, everything! There were so many tapas to choose from, the ones we chose were incredible. We got the calamares fritos, empanadas, lamb meat balls, camarones al ajillo and churros. Everything was full of flavor and cooked to perfection! Great happy hour! Great food! I love this place. The paella is fantastic. It's enough for 2 folks. Get the special. You'll never go wrong. They whiskey collection is pretty good. It's been years since we have been to Barcelona and I honestly forgot how wonderful it is. The ambiance is gorgeous. There are featured artists Chihuly who specializes in beautiful blown glass and pieces by Mac Worthington who has large metal sculptures adorning the walls which gives it a bright and eclectic look. It was particularly festive last night with large Christmas trees and additional lights. Anyways that's just the decor. The seafood paella is amazing but last night we ordered a bunch of small plates to share. We ordered the tower which has fired almonds, artichoke, various olives, pickled vegetables, and hummus. It was delicious. We also ordered the pan, Caesar salad, patatas bravas, calamari, and the empanadas. Everything was beyond our expectations. The service included. They even helped us pick out some fun ginger lime mock tails for the occasion. We ended up taking dessert to go which was the almond cake and chocolate pudding. Loved both. I went to Barcelona as a group for a friend's birthday, and it was only my second time eating there. The food was overall veey good. It was a group of 8 of us and we each ordered tapas and shared amongst the table. The mussels and costillas were my favorite. The costillas was incredible tender and the sauce was amazing. But for $16 it was such a small plate it was impossible to share. My friend ordered the shrimp and the scallops, and the shrimp only came with maybe 5 or 6 pieces, which again was disappointing for the price. The restaurant was extremely busy and walking to and from the table was a struggle; people were standing by the bar and the host stand it was tough to navigate. I can see myself going back but for a special occasion again, not for a date night or a typical night out though. read more

Writing this review after the third time going there and still very happy! Almost all of the food is phenomenal! I would always recommend the Montego, sourdough bread, and any paella. They tweak the menus from what we can tell but sad the skirt steak was replaced by the sirloin as it was much better. Service is great! I would go back for our next special occasion! You will enjoy the unique cuisine of Spain! Parts of the inside dining room can be tight when it gets busy and noisy. I enjoyed my meal at Barcelona well enough, however know this is an extremely expensive restaurant. Expect to pay $50-$60 per person, at least. This was the most expensive meal I have ever paid for. I felt like the entrées were very quality, but I did not leave full. I could have had another meal. Tiny portions. Not the type of place I typically enjoy. I came here for a birthday dinner at 5:00 on a Sunday. When we arrived, the ambiance was very nice but our server was very slow getting our drinks and wasn't great at recommending wine pairings. Once we ordered, the food came out after like 30 minutes for the salad and 50 minutes for the paella, and the food was delicious! The paella has the chorizo described as squid ink, but there was no chorizo and the squid ink was everywhere in the dish. The dish was also described as having saffron, which I wish was more prevalent in the dish. The squid ink masked all the other flavors and I can't even pinpoint the flavor of the squid ink. I wish the paella itself was saffron based, to use squid ink on top of paella seems like a waste. Overall, it was an okay paella and I enjoyed it. After eating, the waiters dropped a dish on my boyfriends chair and never came to clean it up. We then also spilled a water and no one came to clean it up. After these two incidents, we were left alone for 30 minutes before anyone even came to see if we needed a check. We obviously did, at this point it was 7:50 and our food had been gone for 45 minutes and we've watched all the tables around us be served/leave and a new table take place like three times over. By the time she finally brought the checks, it was 8:20 and most of them were wrong. If the service had been better, maybe would be a 5 star review. read more

I absolutely love Barcelona. This staple in German Village has been around for quite some time. I remember my parents going there for Happy Hour when I was a kid, and now I am delighted to be able to do the same. The interior is romantic, the patio is the same-- in fact it's one of my favorite patios in Columbus. I have been on many occasions, but last time I went for tapas with a girlfriend. The drinks I went for were La Ciudad and La Tortuga. La Ciudad was like a twist on a manhattan-- delish. La Tortuga was sweeter, and very refreshing. We also went for the short ribs, the mixta and caesar salads, and the mussels. The salads were great, the short ribs were incredible. The mussels were also tasty, but the container they were served in was too deep to really get to the broth. I would suggest they switch this up and serve the dish in a wider bowl! There are no words to describe how incredible the food and service at Barcelona. But I shall endeavor to try. From the tapas to the cocktails, Barcelona does not miss when it comes to impressing the palate. We left completely impressed and vowing to return as regulars. For dinner, we ordered the beef tartare, Mejillones, and empanadas. We sipped on the El Escorial (mezcal), Barcelona Manhattan (bourbon), and espresso martinis. Another Gem walking distance from my house. Ok so this is a must try if you are in German village. Their menu has so many unique dishes to choose from. When I say unique it's because the pairings they put together aren't typical but together go so well. Everything I've tried so far has been amazing. The happy hour has both drink and food specials. Happy hour is the best hour. It's for sure at this place. The items on this menu are usually about $5 or so. A martini is one of the special drinks. This goes good with almost everything. Among the food specials are a lot of good choices. The one I like the most is the artichoke salad. It's simple and yet has lots of flavor. There's also hummus. Even though it's not Spanish, it's still a good appetizer. The main menu is much pricier. It has some seriously upscale food. They have lots of private events and parties that order this kind of stuff. It matters very much what time you go. Save lots at the happy hour. The only time anyone needs to be there. read more

Finally got a chance to try this well known gem! Only disappointed by the lovely patio being closed. However, the exceptional food, drink service and ambiance made up for it! It's hard to choose from such an extensive, well thought out menu, so, as it was designed, we eagerly picked several tapas. The soup was beyond delicious, a unique take on gazpacho, but with savory green tomatoes that had an incredible smoky undertone. Our Caesar salad was crisp and flavorful and big enough to share. Calamari also did not disappoint. Extremely flavorful, tender and fresh! In addition, we enjoyed a perfectly seared steak with chimichurri sauce! Tried this place for a nicer dinner and loved it!! We made a reservation and were seated immediately. Parking was a little difficult but we were able to find near-by street parking. I loved the atmosphere when you walk in. It was very pretty on the inside. Our waiter was helpful in telling us how much to order. We had two of the small plates and a large plate. We wanted to try a couple different tapas. We ordered Patatas Bravas and the Empanadas - both were delicious. For the large plate, we got the Paekla Barcelona and enjoyed that as well. I ran across mention of Barcelona's exceptional list of Spanish wines in Wine Spectator recently, and I decided to pay them a visit.  I'm VERY glad I did! While we sat indoors on this visit, I saw the outdoor patio and it looked quite lovely - just another reason to come back :-) Tip: Parking was fairly easy - we found free parking next to Schiller Park and then strolled over the the restaurant. After consulting with our very friendly and knowledgeable waitress, we ordered what turned out to be an excellent bottle of Rioja from the wine list, and selected half a dozen tapas to share.   Our meal was outstanding from beginning to end - the ambiance, the food, and the service were all exceptional!  While everything we tried from the tapas menu was good, I highly recommend the mussels and the Paella Barcelona.  The calamari and the lamb meatballs also deserve honorable mention :-) To sum it up, if you want to enjoy some authentic tapas, excellent cocktails, wonderful service and atmosphere that will make you feel like you're in Spain, you need to pay Barcelona a visit! read more

After a couple of carb laden deep fried disasters of dining experience. I was craving something fresh clean... recently alive. Tapas was a special treat because we got all of that an then some. Without reservations (recommended) we ate at the bar. I asked the bar tender for a Smokey not to sweet but full bodied red. He brought a couple of Spanish wines. Great wine, to go with the tapas special sampler. We added a couple of regular items , grilled squid and short ribs. So this is how the well heeled Colombians wind down after a busy week! Some dishes were better than others with the wagyu beef being the easy star dish. Sons' GF shows up after she gets out of a social function and we wind up hanging drinking until midnight. Which is easy as it's comfortable cozy warm intimate and inviting all at once. Much is nearly perfect. Yet there were a few significant misses. Rose, our server, was delightful. The visual appeal of the main dining room is simply one of the loveliest in Columbus. We were seated in the covered veranda which has plenty of heating for those wondering about a December review. We definitely over ordered. Certainly not a challenge to do either. So much looks and sounds wonderful. We started with seasonal sangria. It was a bit lacking to my taste. The first few sips were good but then it was very one dimensional. We also had pan and the charcuterie board which arrives on an oval platter, not a board. The discrimination against boards is a bit troubling to me. Next up mussels, meatballs and flank steak. The meatballs were a letdown. Too dense and lacked flavor. Flank steak was truly w wonder and winner. Mussels were enjoyable but a couple of bad ones got to the table. We finally get to the main event. We ordered both a single lamb and seafood paella. The lamb was superbly done. The sea bass was over cooked. The base of the seafood paella was not as enjoyable as I anticipated. My challenge is I spent mental cycles anticipating this meal. Certain peaks appear. But there needs some attention. For example it would be good for the floor manager who zips around to actually slowdown and legitimately check with customers rather than racing to fill water glasses. There were issues that he should have checked on. It was a lost opportunity. I may go back. The price for 2 was nose bleed. I would be much more restrained on ordered next time. read more

Had the opportunity to try this place on Tuesday February 28th 2023. We ordered few items of the menu and this are some of the notes I took. first thing we ordered was the Pan (bread), made the assumption that would've been baked in house and had the extra authentic touch; and it did, although not a bread kind of guy, my partner does enjoy a good bread with the meal. We ordered two of their tapas - their Camarones al Ajillo (Sautéed Shrimp garlic) smaller portion than expected, but the flavor was great, not too salty or over cooked. the second item was their Patatas Bravas (Fried potatoes) truth to be told, that was our least favorite of all, but still had a decent flavor and I could ask for much more. for the Paella, as recommended by my Cousin - we went with the Paella de Mariscos (Seafood Paella) comes in two different presentations first is a smaller plate that would be enough for two people and the big plater that would feed at least 4 - 5 people. One of the most authentic paella we have ever had in the US. flavors, the textures, portions, etc. all coming together in harmony to provide you with the perfect bite each time. The service was phenomenal and the environment makes you feel welcome; something I don't get to experience often in German Village. Few days later, we had visitors from AZ. and we were so impressed with this place, that we had decided to substitute one of the other restaurants we wanted for them to try for this place. In the heart of German Village I feel as if this is a place that needs to be visited at least once. It's right next to Schiller Park, and after eating, you can always take a walk there. I love coming here. I don't think there is a dish here that I've had that I haven't liked. Plus, they got one of the best happy hours. From their tapas to cocktails, you actually have serval choices to choose from. The menu is always very well thought out, and if you're not sure what to order, the staff is pretty knowledgeable and can help. I'm glad to see it's still around, even after a year of Covid. Tonight I had one of their newer cocktails. The Artemis. It has beets, smoked tequila and garnished with fennel. Truly a unique tastes with a bit of Smokey and earthy flavors hitting you. The atmosphere is always lively and I always see people enjoying themselves. I haven't made it out to the patio area, but from what I've seen, it's quite lovely.
