Amazing Views, Tasty Tapas & One Very Small Plate Problem! We visited VASO Rooftop Bar yesterday to meet up with some friends and celebrate her retirement. And what better way to celebrate than with good friends, good food, and a rooftop view? Since VASO is a tapas-style restaurant, we decided to order several things and share everything. We started with the deviled eggs, followed by the Caribbean flatbread, bruschetta, and empanadas. We also tried the mussels served over spaetzle. Now, I'll say this right up front: the portions are on the small side. When you're sharing food with four people, three empanadas probably isn't the best game plan! We were definitely doing some serious plate math. But here's the good news--what the dishes lacked in size, they made up for in flavor! Everything we tried was really tasty and well done. There wasn't a dish that disappointed. Of course, we couldn't stop at dinner, so we moved on to dessert. We shared the blackberry crème brûlée, chocolate terrine, and spice sponge cake with bourbon sauce. The desserts were just as good and gave us a sweet way to finish the evening. And then there's the view. Being a rooftop restaurant, VASO gives you an incredible perspective of the river. Seeing the river from that height, especially while enjoying dinner and drinks with friends, made the whole experience even better. Overall, VASO delivered great flavors, creative tapas, delicious desserts, and an amazing rooftop atmosphere. I decided to go to VASO for my birthday dinner because of the view. VASO looks very nice and offers the kind of experience scenery I wanted to celebrate my special day. But sadly the food was not good. We ordered several small plates and really didn't like any of them. The Korean fried chicken was fried too hard, and the paella was more like rice with a jumbled seafood mess on top.....it didn't taste or feel intentional, and the chorizo was needed in the dish at all. I was also expecting the crispy rice on the bottom and this dish didn't deliver that at all. The bruschetta was bland, and the lamb lollipops were overcooked. As for the drinks - they were okay. The drinks and food honestly look better than they actually taste. If you want to go somewhere for a nice photo come here....take in the view - have one drink - and then go. read more

I have visited VASO for happy hour twice now, and keep raving about it to friends and coworkers! The first time was in July for my birthday, and we ordered most of the happy hour food menu as well as some drinks. They paced our food very nicely, the next few tapas would come out right as we were finishing the current ones. The second visit was with a few clients, who both loved the experience. We sat inside but had a great time chatting, eating tapas, and enjoying cocktails. My favorite tapas are the truffel potatoes, Cilantro hummus, and Brazilian cheese breads. But we loved all of it (crab cakes, chicken florentine salad, spanish grilled cheese, and more). I also really like the Sparkling Sangria, as did my clients. read more

A fine experience at Vaso- great drinks, food was wonderful. The dessert was a little dry in my opinion, but went very well with the ice cream. There was a bit of a snafu at the beginning, where the fire alarm was going off when we arrived. We had to go back down 8 flights of stairs and come back up for our reservation when we could come back in (which was as soon as we got to the bottom). It was fine for us, but I can see 8 flights being a challenge for a lot of people. Otherwise, the ambiance was lovely and the view was great. My only major gripe was the service. Our server didn't check on us very often, and we had to ask for the dessert menu when we heard last call was coming up. I'm chalking up the service mishap to an odd evening with the fire alarm. I had been to Vaso when they first opened. Yesterday we went for their HH. It was a beautiful day and the place was packed. Their drink options on HH are limited, but the food options were great! We kinda got a little bit of everything. Everything was pretty good but we all agreed we'd skip the wontons next time. Maybe we got a bad batch, but they were really crispy and the pork was super dry. For the price, their HH food is a great deal. Our service was not the best. We kept having to ask for silverware, an extra plate, or flagging her down just to order. Maybe they were busier than normal? I'm not sure but it just seemed a little chaotic. read more

Had a reservation for 2 at 7:15pm. Got seated on the side, facing the top of the surrounding buildings. I requested to be seated in the middle section & was told the tables needed to be cleared off first. Took 10+ minutes and someone else got seated there before us. Anyways, Arnold Palmer was very bitter. Whatever you have in mind for deviled eggs is not what you will need tasting when you try these. It had an odd smell and tasted under seasoned. Would not order again. The wontons I give a 3/5. Not my favorite. The mushrooms weren't over powering but still interesting. This could have also used more seasoning. Outer layer was crispy. If you don't like sauces, ask for your sauce on the side because they pour it on your wontons for you. The empanadas seasoned well. Stuffed well too. Would order again. Then we ordered the flank steak medium. We received well done and it took more than 15+ minutes for the waitress to come to our table to check on us in order for us to send it back to get medium. Other than that, plantains were cooked well, the rice and beans were good. Presentation was beautiful. The restaurant was not busy at all. There were many empty tables and seats at the bar. The paella rice was so soggy it seemed to have skipped "simmer" and gone straight to "swimming." Or they were trying to transgender it into risotto against its will. The Korean fried chicken, meanwhile, appears to have been developed for livestock, a herd of sheep that just crossed the dessert desperately searching for a salt lick. This was our first visit to Vaso Rooftop Lounge, and we were celebrating our 30-year anniversary. We were warmly greeted by the host right at our 4:00 pm reservation time and seated with an outstanding view overlooking Dublin, Ohio. Shortly after being seated, we were greeted by Derek, and the experience immediately elevated several notches. What followed turned out to be one of the most memorable service experiences we've had in a long time. Derek was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and made several excellent drink and meal recommendations. He was enthusiastic, engaging, and had a great sense of humor, which made the evening even more enjoyable. We will definitely be returning and hope to have the opportunity to request Derek again. Experienced this with my hubby for our anniversary. Got the Truffle Smashed Potates which were perfectly crispy and flavorful. Pork Wontons off of a recommendation. I'm not a fan of mushrooms and each one had a healthy slice of a dark mushroom. I was able to pull them out but even without not my fav of the night. Beef empamadas with a beautiful flakey crust with the beef could use a bit of seasoning. The absolute highlight of the night, the star, was the black bean hummus. The tahine, on the chips with the topping on the hummus, was absolutely outstanding. We are not huge hummus people but the hummus had such a delight, so flavorful, so bright. I really wanted to love this place, I really did! We came here for NYE and were slightly disappointed. The service was great and so were the cocktails, but there is no comfortable seating (all high tops with bad chairs) and some of the lighting is also bad. For the event we also could barely hear the dj, we could only hear bass. There isn't a coat check either, which is fine, but leaves me to wonder if management knows people just head across the street to Roosevelt room. It was Memorial Day when we popped in here and it was fairly busy. The wind had picked up so we weren't able to sit outside though we were told we could order drinks at the bar and take them outside on our own. The hostess did not recommend having food outside so we asked for a table near the window and closer to the door exiting onto the patio allowing us to meander out there. Their cocktail menu is presented in a magazine which was cool but overwhelming to read at the same time because there were so many pages of options and pictures to sift through. The food menu offered gluten free as well as vegetarian which made everyone happy. We had dinner plans so we only ordered the Bar Snacks, Bruschetta, and Izakaya Vegetables. The Bar Snacks consisted of Fried Peas, Corn, and Almond Nuts. They tasted ok while the Bruschetta was really sweet. The Izakaya Vegetables were misadvertised when it said there were tempura vegetables. There was nothing tempura, battered, or fried about the vegetables. We came mostly for the view and drinks so it's ok that the snacks weren't great. The guys had mocktails which they both liked. They tried them all between the two of them. I had a Japanese Vodka High Back with Cucumber and the Pisco Fever. Both were good. And the view out in the patio was cool. Sitting inside along the window was nice as well. Service was not good though. We would've had more drinks but she was slow to come by. We decided to check out the view after we ordered another drink by flagging someone else down. It turns out our server was outside putting the furniture away because of the wind. When we went back inside, most of our table had been cleared which was a bummer.
