    chicory salad

Lovely ambiance at this small, tapas restaurant. Felt immediately transported to Europe. Lovely Spanish wines by the glass, especially the white on tap. We had: tinned tuna with accoutrements croquetas with manchego cheese chicory salad tortilla espagnola bomba rice with seafood pork morcilla with onion Probably could have ordered one fewer dish between the two of us. Favorites were the chicory salad (refreshing!) and the bomba rice. Tinned tuna was also very good. Least favorite were the croquetta (too rich) and the tortilla espagnola (a little bland). Service was friendly throughout until the end when another server slapped our bill on the table just after clearing it, without offering dessert or asking if we were finished. We had been there under 90 minutes and there was an empty table beside us with no one waiting and plenty of tables outside. Rather than say anything, we were done and left but it was not a good way to end the meal. Focusing on the food though, I might go back and try a few more things. Or I might try another of the many, many enticing restaurants this city has to offer.

A $25 Dine LA lunch that even includes two glasses of champagne; such a great deal. The restaurant itself is small and cozy, with a warm, charming atmosphere that's easy to enjoy. There's a wide variety of dishes, the portions are generous, and everything feels very reasonably priced. Parking isn't the most convenient, but that also makes it feel like a bit of a hidden gem. The service is friendly, the space is comfortable, and it's a lovely spot for catching up with friends or going on a casual date.

It's tapas. It's shared dishes. It's fun. The food is higher end of quality, portions are smaller, as they are meant to be ordered and shared so you should order multiple dishes. The staff is pretty good on recommendations. Things that stood out. The tomato on bread and tomato on bread with fish. Fantastic. The potatoes also great. The tin can of mussels was also scrumptious with these thick homemade crackers. The place is cozy. The outdoor area has heat lamps and a barrier to enclose it. The bad. Parking. This strip of silver lake can be tough. It's street parking, metered parking, or neighborhood. Pay attention to parking signs.

Was looking to try a new spot in the Silver Lake area and stumbled upon Bar Siesta. They have a wide assortment of wines and beer to pick from, study up on your Iberian Vino. We dabbled into the tapas: olives (standard), pan con tomate (good, but kinda hard to mess this one up), mejiilones en esbache (tasty, but nothing to write home about), patatas bravas (ok crunch on the potatoes, could use more seasoning), and arroz con almejas (watery, lacked seasoning). The ambiance gives date night or a night out with a group of friends. Our server was attentive and provided decent advice on the items. Parking may be difficult, if street parking isn't available. Overall, felt alright. I expected more out of this joint.

This Bub's bread with tomatoes and garlic was the star of the night!

I eat at L&E so much finally trying Siesta I was happy it was so good I now have another go to spot when I'm walking round the lake. Every single dish we had was outstanding. The service was great and they sat us without a reservation, which is always a plus in my reviews if you can handle that and they can. The ambience is really nice and relaxed very family style and I love the architecture of how they did the walls and ceilings in the restaurant .

Welcome to this magical Spanish cafe/tapas bar in the heart of LA! Muchas Gracias

Bar Siesta is a fabulously authentic Spanish tapas restaurant and bar in the trendy and fun Silverlake! I absolutely adore the ambience--it's lively and full of lovelies and gorgeous customers. The Spanish food and libations are amazing, especially the tortillas and Sangria! Love the modern, clean open space. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, especially Jhon, the gorgeous and charming barista at the morning cafe. Cortado. He always goes the extra mile to engage with customers and make sure everyone is having a great time with his beautiful smile! The location couldn't be more convenient, right in the heart of Silverlake. And I think that I mentioned that I'm totally obsessed with Cortado- dog friendly and fabulous! They serve delicious coffees and pastries, and all of the baristas are simply gorgeous and authentically Spanish from Barcelona. It's all just fabulous and A++++!

It's giving cozy, chic, exclusive. Scott (name?) was a gracious host ! Guided us through the menu for our group. Great recommendations included the delicious pan con tomate and ensalada verde. Not a huge fan of the mussel that was the special for the night. However there are many other options to choose from some not pictured here including the tasty mushrooms (setas al Ajillo) and steak (pincho Moruno) alongside the patatas bravas which were all stars of the show for me. Arroz con Almejas was their reimagined paella made with lobster broth very tasty. Recall portion sizes vary so asking staff what amounts of order sizes is definitely a go to. Dessert was an olive oil ice cream with sherry which at first taste didn't great but the after taste made me turn my head. The buñuelos were more like tiny churros but yummy to dip into the ice cream. Wished they had the cheesecake but had just run out as we placed our late order. Shout out again to wonderful staff who made us feel right at home. Also extensive wine menu as expected! Tried a recommended Tempranillo and a lovely white wine. Prices were decent and although most bottles you had to commit to there were a few you could grab a glass of instead. Lucky we were able to taste a couple before committing. Sat outside on a cold Jan night but luckily they had some very effective heaters. Interior is small but soooo pretty. Def hope to be able to snag a seat inside next time! Minus one star for the hunt that it was to find parking. Limited spaces as it's mostly residential with no dedicated lot and permit parking hour restrictions. Also the price when split we paid with tip and libations under $100 per person for 6 of us. Not bad for a Silverlake dinner

We stopped by this spot for lunch after seeing it in an Instagram video. We were seated immediately and got a seat on the patio, which was super nice and out of the sun. I was super excited to try this place since it has Spanish food. We started with the pan con tomate, and I forgot to take a picture but I wish I had. It was the smallest portion they could have provided us, 4 small pieces of bread (think the size of bread you would eat with a cheese board) and a tiny cup of tomate. There was barely enough tomate to split between 3 people. I looked over pictures here on Yelp, and the bread we received was much smaller and not grilled. It was super disappointing. I've ordered pan con tomate in Spain, and their portions were never this minuscule. The rest of the food was good, especially the stuffed onions (my favorite), marinated beans, and tuna bocadillo, but everything was super expensive despite pretty small portions! The stuffed onions were full of flavor, tender, and such a unique dish. The beans were lemony and like nothing I've had before. The bocadillo was salty but delicious and flavorful. Even though the food was good, it didn't blow me away, and certainly didn't match the price. I do have to give a shoutout to our server, though, she was super sweet and recommended two things that were fantastic (beans and bocadillo) that we otherwise would not have ordered. While I recognize that this is a tapas restaurant, my opinion is that the prices need to be reduced to fit the portion sizes, or the portions need to be adjusted to match their current prices. We enjoyed our time here, but it can't be a regular spot for us due to the prices, and that's probably the case for others too. There are also similar restaurants with prices that are more aligned with the dishes they serve.

    Unsavory. Expensive

Bougie for the sake of being bougie. I started with the Papas con Cosas, which came with about three thin slices of jamón on top of what looked like a kids-size portion of kettle chips. For $18, the portion was pretty ridiculous . Our table also ordered the pork, tomato bread, and clams. Across the board the portions just didn't match the prices. Everything felt very small for what you're paying. There's probably a reason the menu doesn't include photos, and when we asked for recommendations for someone who was actually hungry, there really weren't any. Would recommend if you're going for a bougie night, drinks, and vibes. But if you're actually hungry, this probably isn't the place.

The olive oil ice cream and gambas were our favorite. Everything was tasty. Wish the bread held up, was quite soggy unlike other pan con tomates.

Gorgeous atmosphere! My friend and I came here on a Thursday night and our waiter, Day, was extremely attentive and charismatic! He offered amazing selections that correlated with our palette and my dietary preferences. The food was delicious and paired nicely with the suggested wines! Day showed sommelier level knowledge regarding the wines and broke down the notes and pairings with ease. We were informed that they get quite busy on the weekends, but for a Thursday night, it was a beautiful, quiet, & intimate space. My favorite menu item was the Arroz con Almejas, which was essentially a seafood paella in layman's terms. The stock was flavorful and added depth to the rice. Their aioli is delicious and I loved experiencing it both on the Arroz con Almejas and the Patatas Bravas. Truly spectacular! The menu allows for variety for everyone to try something new. I can't wait to return and further explore the menu. Shoutout to our waiter, Day!

I thought the service was pretty on point and they would always come around to check on us and always come over to fill our water and wine when it was empty. We ordered the special of the day steak, charred cabbage, head on prawns, starter(all four) with olives, cheese, cured meats and bread, calamari toast, and fritters and another bread dish to dip it into the prawns sauce. I would say that the fritters were a bit disappointing, it really could use an aioli sauce to go with it to really enhance this dish. It was just missing something and I think an aioli sauce could really help. My personal favorite was the calamari toast. Something about the way they cooked the calamari was really good on the taste and the how tender it was to eat. The toast soaked it in all the sauce too and I just really loved this dish. The head on prawns had a good sauce to go along with it and as recommended by the waiter that it is nice to eat bread with their sauce. Prawns were good as well. Surprisingly my 2nd favorite dish was their charred cabbage. It doesn't actually sound that special but the beans and the cabbage were really nice. I just think you have to try it as I can't even describe why it was so good to me haha. The special of the day steak was pretty good as well. If I have to complain, it be nice if they asked us how we would like it to be cooked because it did feel like it was a bit well done on our end but taste wise we thought it was good. The dessert: Didn't care for the Portuguese egg tart all but there's a very high standard for the egg tart but I did really enjoy my passion fruit sorbet that they provided and it was a huge scoop. Overall, I wouldn't mind coming back and really did enjoy my time here.

The inside bar was completely packed, but we lucked out and snagged one of the little outdoor tables. We shared the tater tots and a charcuterie board, while my friend got the Croque Monsieur. Everything paired perfectly with the wine flight we ordered from a visiting winemaker from Spain. His name escapes me, but it was such a cool experience getting to hear him talk through each wine personally. Covell does a great job bringing in unique guest winemakers and making wine feel approachable and fun rather than intimidating. Despite growing up and living in the LA area for 10 years more than El Cid has been in existence,…read moreand knowing exactly where it is located -- having driven past it dozens of times -- 2/7/26 was my first time here. My wife found a Groupon special and we celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary here. It was an excellent choice! It's a great date-night experience, but not inexpensive . . . the regular price is $85 per person, plus beverage cost (mixed drinks are $16-$19, beers are $9-$10), so things can add up pretty quickly. After navigating traffic to get here, we were blessed to find a parking space directly across the street on Sunset at exactly 5:45 pm, although this is about 1/4 mile in either direction to the nearest crosswalk. So we carefully crossed mid-block, thankful for a couple of drivers who stopped on the east-bound side to let us finish our trek. Entering the restaurant, you have to travel down several sets of steps, so this is not an easy place for those who are physically challenged. Additionally, the handrails are rather low (I'm 5'9") which is yet another challenge. Once downstairs, there is one step up to the dining area and, dimly lit, it's easy to forget it's there when you leave, and several folks stumbled on the way out (but none actually fell). The dining area is intimate . . . with seating for only about 100 persons, and all seats have a pretty good view of the stage where the flamenco performance takes place. Not a good idea to try your luck and hope there are seats available if you haven't made a reservation. (Note that making reservations can be a little tricky. It doesn't seem like anyone answers the phone live, but they do respond to voice messages and are very pleasant to speak with over the phone). Shortly after being seated, we were served a bowl of vegetable lentil soup which was hot and tasty. Not long after that, our arugala salads were served. The citrus vinaigrette dressing was excellent, although we both agreed that we were disappointed that wasn't more salad on the plate -- there were two slices of fresh orange and a snip of apple underneath the arugala. We both ordered the salmon entree, and it was delicious! A generous 6 ounce (skin on) portion that was hot and perfectly finished. It rested on a small portion of lentils and the plate was decorated with what appeared to be a couple tablespoons of a Green Goddess type of sauce. The paella for two looked good, but mussels just aren't one of my "things." Dessert choices were churros with chocolate sauce, flan, or chia seed pudding. My wife chose the flan, and I had the chia seed pudding. Both were great, not overly sweet, and just the right portions. The hour-long flamenc show started exactly at 7pm and we were captivated by the dancers, the guitarist, and vocalist. These were not "spring chickens" and their routines were physically demanding. It was a delightful experience, and we would recommend it to anyone. The Groupon savings was significant, so look for it before making reservations.

The menu is family-style with smaller plates that are great for sharing. Prices feel fair -- most small plates are in the $10-$20 range, with larger dishes around $30. We ordered seven dishes plus dessert and left feeling full, but not overly stuffed. Here's what we tried: Bub & Grandma's Baguette -- $6 Roasted Baby Golden Beet Salad -- $12 Blue Lake Green Bean Tempura -- $11 Ahi Tuna Crudo -- $15 Grilled Oyster Mushrooms -- $13 Pork Schnitzel -- $30 Spring Pea Cannelloni (special) -- $17 Basque Cheesecake -- $9 Overall, everything was delightful. The standouts for me were the Pork Schnitzel -- a great portion, well cooked, served with roasted potatoes -- the Blue Lake Green Bean Tempura, which were light, fun, and super snackable, and the Ahi Tuna Crudo, which was familiar but really refreshing. The Spring Pea Cannelloni was very pretty, but the flavors didn't feel totally harmonious to me. There is a small parking lot in front, which is always appreciated, and a nice outdoor patio that was especially enjoyable with the current warm weather. It really feels like a great little neighborhood spot now. If you are nearby, I would definitely recommend stopping by -- it is an easy, enjoyable place to share a drink and a meal with friends or relax at the bar.

While visiting LA in March, my good friend and fellow Yelper Te-see B. was excited to take me to…read morethis trendy little restaurant and wine bar. I love how hidden this place is. The kind of place we Yelpers love to discover. Per Te-see, we needed to arrive early as parking is extremely limited here and we wanted to insure we had a spot. We weren't the only ones to arrive early and the little lot filled up in minutes. We were here for the "featured dish" special of the day which was $5.00 pizza night. Yes, you heard me right, not a slice but a whole pizza to yourself. As soon as the doors opened we were entering and going for a bar seat. The bar is set up in a square so the bartenders are able to take care of all their patrons comfortably. The weekly specials on food run all week and their HH runs from Monday - Saturday 5pm - 9:30pm and the wine HH runs 5pm - 7pm for $8 a glass. You must sit at the bar in order to redeem the wine HH. We both wanted a glass of wine to accompany our pizza and as I was deciding I noticed a bottle on the bar. I quickly picked it up and decided I wanted to try a glass of this interesting looking red wine. Turns out it is called Cartuxa EA Red Blend and it is from Portugal. After one glass I knew I wanted to purchase a bottle of this unexpected, well balanced and elegant wine. Total purchase price was a mere $34.00! Sold! I ordered the Margarita pizza along with a Caesar Salad. Everything was really tasty and the meal paired well with the wine. Service was ample but not incredible. I would recommend eating here as the food is tasty and trying out the daily specials. Be sure to get her early to grab a parking spot or you will be parking on the street. I just noticed on their website that they are currently closed for renovations. I would suggest following them for a future re-opening date.
