    Shrimp Cocktail si por favor!!
    Cynthia B.

This place is located in a seedyish part but don't be deterred there are so many great restaurants around here! Amalias is one of those gems. Came here on a Thursday night and it was karaoke night! So fun but really loud! Not the place to come if you want to have meaningful conversations! Haha! But you don't really come here for conversations, you come here for the best Guatemalan food in L.A.! Here's what we ordered: Enchiladas- which are nothing like Mexican enchiladas. There's no tortilla. It's actually a really fresh healthy dish and more like a salad. Fresh beets either queso fresco. So good! Cheeseburger and fries - ha! Yes the kid ordered that! He said it was delicious! The grilled fish - this comes with rice, beans and a salad. So filling. The fish was perfectly cooked and so light. The grilled shrimp - one this was my favorite. The shrimp was tasty. I keep craving it and need to go back for more. The thing that I could literally bathe in is there salsas. The green one isn't like regular salsa verde. It's more herbaceous and has just the right amount of spice. The red one is more like a tomato based sauce but I think it has red chilis too although it isn't really spicy at all. It is one of the tastiest sauces. It has a richness and the taste is indescribable. It's just delicious!! I'll be back for tubs of that thank you very much. :)

Authentic. Delicious. Two words to describe my experience at Amalia's Restaurant. Right in the heart of LA, at the corner of Beverly and Normandie. If you know the area, you'll know the parking situation. There's a plaza lot, which, on the night I came, was half empty--and it's free. Or you can try your luck on one of the side streets. I'm not sure about restrictions, but I didn't see any meters (though I wasn't really looking). Speak Spanish or bring someone who does. The evening I dropped in, the host/server/cashier didn't speak much English. I managed, but it definitely helped that my plus-one is fluent. Inside, it's all tables, set up to accommodate live music and dancing. Combined with the décor, including paintings, it felt like sitting in a Guatemalan courtyard, hanging out with food and drinks. There wasn't any music or dancing that night, but it was lively enough with the background music and the other guests enjoying their meals and having a good time. As for the food--see my pics! My friend and I shared everything in the photos. It was a combo, so we got a little bit of everything. We included drinks and dessert, and there were no to-go boxes needed. Knowing how labor-intensive some of the dishes can be, I have to say I really enjoyed how simple yet flavorful the dishes were--even down to the salsa. One of the two house salsas had a nice kick, and I enjoyed mixing them together. Hell yeah, this place is on my list to visit again--more than likely, sooner rather than later.

This place is absolutely delicious!! I want to try everything on the menu! Atmosphere was so lively, there was live music and karaoke and lots of family talking. Everything was so flavorful and well-seasoned. Service was super sweet, but it was rather hectic so understandably sometimes you have to get their attention. I came in on a Saturday around 2pm. I saw this place while driving by before and wanted to give it a try. I regret having driven by so many times and not trying it. The parking lot is a big bonus, but there's street parking too I believe. If there's one thing you should do in your lifetime, it's eating here.

This is a relatively new location. It's in a shopping center/strip mall. Parking is difficult but the service is fast and friendly. The food is excellent and the ambiance is bright and friendly. It's a must try and I look forward to going again.

I just ordered the chicken soup today and I can't believe what I saw. While I was eating my soup I found a small cockroach! I was disgusted and disappointed. Their food is good but this is plain disgusting.

Great place for couples, and a group of friends. Everyone in the restaurant was having a lovely time. Byron was my waiter and he was very attentive. I should say everyone was attentive. There was a woman and an older gentleman who also checked in on me. Tudor read my mind, and took my appetizer cutlery and plate, and replaced them for my entree. I loved that. When food tastes good, I dance a little in my seat with a big smile. I guess one of the patrons noticed. As he was walking out, he said you're really enjoying yourself. I really was. The Paella Marinera dish seemed as if the ocean exploded in my plate The shrimp. The prawns. The calamari. The muscles. The clams. I was so glad everything was perfectly cooked and nothing was mushy. There was seafood in every forkful. The taste exploded in my mouth, and not a bland taste anywhere. My comfort were the plants I was seated next to. I touched them to check if they were real. They were real, and they were healthy. The owners care what the restaurant looks like because the plants are healthy. These little things I notice. I had a great time at La Paella. If you love seafood with a Spanish flair, I highy recommend you make a dinner reservation at La Paella.

Especially liked their earthy, garlic scented Manteca looking spread which was referred to as Aïoli. Also, there is a salty, brined, chopped olive Tapenade. 2) Paella is their own claim to fame so I ordered the Paella Marinera/seafood. The visuals did not disappoint. Requested the Spanish Bomba rice for more "authenticity" at an extra charge. Minimum order is sized for two persons. Two extra large prawns with heads attached which allowed me to sample the tomalley/shrimp butter which is creamy with a sea scented Umami along with the body meat. Four regular, steamed, headless shrimp with sweet meat. Seven clams, but over cooked. Eight mussels firm & meaty. Soft, bright red bellpepper slices contrasted against the yellow orange rice. The saffron tinted soft rice that held a delicate seafood broth hiding micro-squid, plush white meat fish. The Socarrat/the crispy rice at the bottom of Paella pan was minimal as requested since I didn't want the rest of the rice to be too dried out. Overall, the Paella was fine. (I keep using the Paella created by an art teacher from Spain, Miguel Duran, at his home which blew me out of the water as the standard so it seems most Paellas fall short.) 2a) Vino Tinto: Honoro Vera, Monastrell, Jumilla, España is juicy plum, blackberry with hints of cinnamon, dried thyme, dark chocolate, earthy, and smooth tannins. Made from Monastrell/Mourvèdre. 3) Flan de Naranja is smooth, not too sweet accompanied by a caramel sauce with a touch of orange flavouring, slices of fresh orange. Service is muted, abbreviated, non-effusive, but acceptable. The job gets done. Overall, 3+ stars.

This is a Spanish tapas restaurant from one chef. Offhand itself was a decent venue for it, but I think there are a few things Serrano needs to work out along with it - for example, we never got any plates to eat off so every small plate we had and were splitting, so it was difficult to eat and we made a mess. The food itself was FANTASTIC, but I wish it were more reasonably priced. We spent over $100 for 4 tiny plates that left us hungry. That being said, the food was so good that I wasn't mad about it. When the original iteration of this extravagant tasting menu restaurant debuted in 2018 in the back of the SLS Hotel, it was a stunner from day one. Now, a pandemic intermission and a relocation to West Hollywood later, Somni 2.0 operates on an even higher level. Somni is not only the most expensive restaurant in Los Angeles, it's also one of the most expensive in the country. The tasting menu starts at $745 actually, you're dealing with a meal that can cost as much as a family trip to legoland. Somni makes it clear from the first of 20-plus courses where your money is going. As you're led into a tree-draped courtyard outside the converted bungalow where the restaurant is housed (it used to be a Donna Karan store), the night begins with a champagne flute of frothed-up mandarin juice and a spread of carnival-coded snacks: popcorn-flavored leaves, a feather made of parmesan, and a big trompe l'oeil almond shell that cracks under your teeth like candy. Somni's chef cooked under José Andres and came up in the tongue-in-cheek school of fine dining made famous by Spain's El Bulli--so whimsy-heavy dishes like a cartoonish mushroom sandwich boosted with truffle, or a sashimi-like sardine tart on an oversized goldfish cracker are par for the course. But Somni's Spanish-leaning creations never sacrifice deliciousness for cleverness. An obscenely generous mound of caviar over a dissolving puff of dashi-flavored meringue is so delicious that all you can do is sigh. Beef tartare is delicately stuffed inside a tempura shiso leaf that's fried so it inflates like a crab shell, all but defying physics. A fair number of dishes use foams and flowers at Somni, but there's nothing dainty about the flavors here. The food is only half of what you'll remember, though. The dining room's 14 seats gently curve around a long kitchen counter like front-row seats to a play. The servers are cooks and vice versa. Many of them wear Secret Service earpieces. There's a natural choreography to how they breeze around the room, but no moment in the three-hour production comes across rehearsed for someone that's paralyzed. That's great news A beverage pairing is required Even if you choose the most inexpensive option-- over 100 Still, if you're willing to make the investment, Somni does not disappoint. A meal at this theatrical tasting menu spot is nothing short of incredible--just know it's incredibly expensive, too.

Plating will take place in front of you, and then taken to each person with synchronized style and grace. I felt like I was watching a conductor conduct a culinary symphony with his orchestra. Food? Unbelievable. Beautiful, creative, and complex. Look at the photos. The dedication it takes to dream of a deconstructed pizza and rebuilt by gastronomy, then executed with precision. And devoured by a few quick mouthfuls, yet fully savored. Service is rhythmic, synchronized, and attentive. Rhythmic because there is a pace, a rhythm set by the courses. Synchronized because the staff work in unison. Attentive because they feel and respond to the pulse of each guest. The wine pairing? Spot on. Team member Caroline did an excellent job here. Even when stuffed to the brim, I would not let a single drop of wine go to waste. No way, down the hatch it goes. On that note, get a rideshare or taxi. Last, Chef Zabala. His passion and dedication are noteworthy. To invent his dishes, to make them, to perfect them, and then to serve them. I can only imagine how much behind-the-scenes work it takes. An artist, a culinary magician, and a dedicated master to his craft. Thank you!

There was ample al fresco seating, as well as atmospheric, candlelit dining inside. Menu items were reminiscent of my time in Spain and transported me back to my time there. What we ordered for the table, in order of preference: 1. Patatas bravas - fabulously crispy and flavorful. 2. Sardines - always a favorite, and the lemon zest contrasted nicely with the brininess of the fish. 3. Gambas - prawns were perfectly grilled and fresh. 4. Croquetas - love anything fried or crispy, so this was a classic choice. 4. Sardine toast - again, the lemon zest offset the fishiness beautifully. 5. King trumpet mushrooms - so umami, and almost tasted like steak. 6. The steak - loved the bright sauce that accompanied it. 7. Arroz - perhaps because I was expecting more of a paella dish, this one came out a little more textureless than I would've preferred. Decent flavor; just didn't entirely enjoy the mushy texture. 8. Morcilla de cebolla - I ordered this wanting to give blood sausage another try, but it's still not a favorite dish of mine and would not reorder. Overall, most dishes were enjoyable, well made and presented. We also enjoyed a carafe of basque wine, which complemented our meal very nicely. We ordered the avocado eggs Benedict with Jamon Iberico added, and the Congee. My husband loved the Benedict, but didn't think the ham for an $16 was worth it. Eggs Benedict is one of my favorite breakfasts, but I did not care for this version. The "light as air" hollandaise sauce seemed too light on flavor. I prefer the full richness of that sauce. The Congee was a first for my husband and I, and we both enjoyed it! Service was amazing! They knew it was our anniversary and made sure we had a table that we were happy with. I think 3 different people wished us a happy anniversary, and they surprised us with a dessert. Omg, the flan they served us was the best we've ever had! It was so silky, light, and airy. Even though we were full, we devoured the whole thing. It was the highlight of our meal!

Beautiful restaurant, beautiful view, but the reception can be improved…read more Host was not friendly nor welcoming. Not what I expect from a restaurant inside a Conrad Hotel. I got much better, friendlier service from a USPS store just prior to coming here. There was a relatively large event nearby and the restaurant was so unprepared for it. I could tell by the manager's tone that he got tired of having to tell non-dining patrons to stay out, basically. For a restaurant inside a hotel such as Conrad, I was surprised that you couldn't request a table based on your preference. It was my wedding anniversary and it was noted on OpenTable reservation, but it wasn't acknowledged.
