Great food, TERRIBLE service. When you call in, the first thing their phone service says is "If you're here for curbside pickup, press 1." When I arrived to pickup my takeout, I found they had no designated curbside parking for pickup. I parked two blocks down the street and proceeded to call 10 times, pressing 1, only to have no one answer. I had an infant in the car and couldn't easily leave the car. It was clear my only option was to go inside, and when I did I was surprised to find the lobby empty, open seats throughout the front area, and a hostess standing eagerly waiting to help me. When I told her I called 10 times and followed the prompt for curbside pickup and no one answered, her response was "we're really busy". I think what she meant to say was "we're really lazy". There wasn't a phone in sight. I'm guessing she put it away so she didn't have to deal with it. read more

We are visiting Bend for a few days for a get away. We wanted a relaxed no fuss meal that was walking distance from our hotel. We saw the menu and reviews on Yelp, so decided to give it a try. The team at Barrio, from the hostess to waiters were so helpful and really made dining during Covid a more enjoyable experience. The margaritas were delicious on a hot summer night. We ordered the mixed paella for 2. We make paella at home, and we must admit this paella was very good! And for a side we ordered the street corn. The corn was well prepared and very delicious! The seafood paiella is so amazing! I have literally never had something so delicious. Not messing around, literally my favorite thing to eat. The atmosphere is nice. It can get a little loud in there as they are pretty busy usually, but all in all there is a reason for the business! The food is amazing! Our service was also really good. Happy hour pricing is really wonderful and you get a good bang for your buck! I like to get whatever Mezcal drink they have on the menu. It is just the right amount of smoky and sweet. Beautifully done every time and has a simple look to it with a pineapple piece that has been soaking in the Mezcal prior. I would definitely say order the chips and salsa beforehand! We had an interesting visit to Barrio today. The food was good but the service was slow and inattentive and my food was partially cold. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be or not and the server didn't come back soon enough for me to ask. But, the food was tasty. We had a long wait for water then a really long wait for our food then a long wait for hot sauce. I was picking at a taco while waiting for the hot sauce and almost finished the taco, picking at it piece by piece with a fork, before the server came back with our hot sauce. She'd been in the room 3 times without bringing it to us. I wasn't impressed with the homemade hot sauce either, but oh well. It tasted way too much like vinegar and too little like the peppers. Our server described the taco as having a special cabbage with salt on it. I'm pretty sure it was pickled, which would have been a slightly better description. Another server was asked what Colorado Sauce was by a nearby table and she did the "um, oh, I'm not sure" before saying it was like mole. These servers should know what they are serving. Overall, not impressed at all with this place. There are much better creative taco places around. Skip this one unless you really have nothing better to do. With better service, this place might have been 5 star. read more

Great service, fun and delicious specialty drinks and flavorful margaritas. The tapas here do not disappoint. The roasted cauliflower has a jerk snap to it, the paella is made to order, includes rockfish along with the shrimp, salmon, mussels and calamari, chicken and / or chorizo. We ended up here at the holidays this past Winter when our group of six with child encountered too long a wait at other downtown locations. Won us over after only a very short wait. This past week when my son and I walked in to dine, we were greeted warmly and given a cozy hightop near the front, patience as I perused the menu again. I ordered the cheese enchiladas and appreciated that they used an authentic Mexican cheese vs American/Cheddar, but overall the flavor was bland. My husband ordered the wet burrito and was less than impressed with its blandness. The cook must have been waking up while making our food because it was extremely slow getting our food. One visit with a group of friends where we ordered several dishes to try. Wow, excellent. Server was informative about the dishes and checked in regularly to see that we had what we needed. Another trip with two friends, their food came out, mine didn't. The waitress came by, saw I didn't have my dish, that my friends were done, and lit into action. The manager stopped within a couple of minutes to apologize and said they were on it. Within maybe 5 minutes my order was out roaring hot and excellent. They also took my drink off the tab. Barrio has great food, friendly service, and a casual atmosphere. We got the carnitas tacos, seafood paella, and churros with chocolate sauce. All the dishes were very good, the food was very flavorful and tasty. We ate on the patio which was very nice, it has a wonderful ambience. The service was quick and attentive. The churros were exceptional, they were freshly made and very tasty - the best churros I've ever had. We have been waiting and waiting for BarRio to open. Barrio was the only place that could ever come close to our paella (learned in Spain) and it was delicious (we have literally tried just about every restaurant in oregon that serves paella). Not to mention the cocktails were fabulous! So we went to Bar Rio the other night with high hopes. We ordered our favorites jibaritos and paella as well as cocktails. Unfortunately the only item that remained the same and absolutely delicious was the jibaritos. Everything else while good, were not spectacular and a far cry from what Barrio used to produce. I hope this is just working out the kinks as this was one of my absolute favorite places in downtown. Typical hipster joint. Great theme and good decor. And popular for those reasons alone I guess. Food was lackluster at best. Very bland and poorly executed. Feels like someone told someone their food was "fantastic " and they decided to open a restaurant with no culinary capacity. Who burns Piella to a crispy rice and then says that's the way they do it here? Come on people. Don't go. Places like these need to close quickly. Follow up--. I just got an email from the owner. Guacamole tasted like it had overripe / rotten avocados. Beef barrio was 50% gristly inedible meat. Chicken tinga tasted off. Rice was raw. Kids burger smelled off and was over cooked. I would definitely come back here. It is exciting to find a place that offers vegetarian tapas, as that is not common. We had a delicious meal and appreciated that the food came quickly, staff were attentive, and it wasn't that expensive for a date night. The best items we ate: --the gnocchi (asked for it without mushrooms) was super delicious --the jalapeno poppers were delicious (though we've never had jalapeno poppers before and had nothing to compare them to, these seemed fancier than normal) --the fried plantains were excellent with great toppings, but you only receive three plantain patties Not as good: --the broccoli dish had promise but the broccoli were so burnt that my spouse couldn't eat it --the chips and guacamole with salsa is an item where Barrio needs to up its game. The chips weren't quality and the salsas were bland (though that will be the case nearly everywhere in the PNW) --the cauliflower dish was an effort at creativity that failed. Bad hospitality model. Posted a 9 pm close on a Saturday night. When we walked in at 8:28 they said they were closed. So, change your hours to close at 8:30! That's not a solution as you would probably then close at eight. Where does it stop? At the very least, post that you don't take Walk-ins after 830. Barrio is my go to place for lunch. They offer a variety of delicious entree choices that you can never go wrong. They greet you with a smile and encourage you to find a seat wherever you would like. The dining area is neat and tidy and the service is prompt. The bathrooms are always clean. Ordered Beef Lengua Tacos and a Yucatan Shrimp Huarache. Lengua tacos speak for themselves (LOL literally); well marinated meat with simple fixings. Lengua is Spanish for toungue. Don't let the name scare you, the meat is more tender than pork and has a rich delicious taste. The Huarache was amazing as well. Flattened and grilled plantains with perfectly seasoned and cooked shrimp topped with pineapple and mango slices and delicious roasted Oaxacan peanuts. I like a good hot sauce to accompany my tacos and mistakenly asked for tapitio. The server told me they don't have any and then suggested the house made hot sauces: jalapeno and habanero. They were delicious, but definitely needed a bit more kick. I could barely taste the heat on the habanero sauce. With their reasonable prices, delicious and creative dishes, prompt service and inviting atmosphere Barrio is a great choice for your next meal. read more

I was recommended to Barrio a year and half ago when I first moved to Bend by an Airbnb Host and I am so happy I was able to check it out. I have since brought my mom back when she was in town for a couple visits and we get there every so often. Each time has been great. I personally love Tapas, so that's a big reason I love it. They do a great job with the food, it's flavorful and decent sized for sharing. The top of my list would probably be the Patas Bravas, the Jalapeno Poppers and the Lamb. One person enjoyed their 3 tacos and another her Mariscos al Ajillo; however, my Paella was burnt and my friends burger was a tale all it's own. My paella had cold pepper strips and burnt rice. Not a huge deal, but every time i've gone in, the host/staff are short-winded, snarky, rushed, and make you feel like they're doing you a favor. Just not very welcoming, at all.
