Worst service ever. When we were there at least 20 people walked out. The hostess would not take any names nor was she seating anyone when there were multiple tables available. And then when we pointed the fact to her she got defensive! I asked another local if this was typical and she said yes they are known for their bad service. Long wait was well worth it! They accommodated my family and I perfect. The food was delicious and the kid's even ate every bite.

I have come here multiple times for lunch, dinner and HH. The four stars is from the always delicious, well prepared and presented food. The flavors are spot on and the presentations are great. The size of the dishes matches the somewhat expensive price for lunch. The location is awesome and the back patio in the summer is nice, even though you are in the alley. The only reason they do not have 5 stars is because the service there is not consistent. doesn't matter if it's slow or busy you never know what you are going to get. I do think we have received less than average service more often than not. Hosts that act uninterested, tables that haven't been cleaned and we are asked to stand by the table before it's washed, slow slow service. I think it took us about 20 minutes to order at lunch one day. I understand the food is the star of the show and it definitely is here. But if you are going to be a restaurant with sit down service, where I have to tip, then I want the whole package and this place is consistent enough for 5 stars. I will continue to eat here though because it's wow yum. read more

This was our third time to Barrio in Bend, and it's been great every time. Always great service and food. The two stand outs this time were the coconut margarita (wow), and the veggie paella. We ordered the paella for the vegetarian in our group but I couldn't get enough. I'd also recommend the ahi tuna. We'll see you again next time we are in Bend! read more

We went to Barrios after they re-opened their main location beyond the food carts (3/18/22) and they had revamped their restaurant after covid. Get your QR scanner ready!!! They have no solid menus. We were excited to see what they had changed as I heard they had new menu items beyond their appetizer menu. I saw their classic tacos menu and at the time I wanted to share with my husband a "appetizer". (It ended up being 3 tacos for 20$? Hard to beat in central Oregon. With THAT great of flavor and NOT being street taco size.) We enjoyed the varieties of the flavor last time so we couldn't wait. We didn't wait long (maybe 15 min max even though we had been on a wait list of 35 minutes beforehand. {the automated message was on point as well; sending us both a text and a call when our tab was ready)}. The food was hot and fast service. The waitress even apologized because she thought our food was delayed and we had been waiting a long time. We told her no and we knew they'd be busy this weekend (St Patty's day and their first real weekend of service) and she put a rush for our food. (She had checked on us multiple times before our meal arrived. Asking us if we needed more water or drinks).. she was great. We truly enjoyed barrios. We are so glad it's back open as a restaurant for business as well as food trust. I would only mention that the rockfish meat marinates in a different sauce/spice mix than the chicken or beef. Didn't work for us. We thought that drinking margaritas and eating chips and guacamole on an outdoor patio sounded like a great idea. But, the patio was filled with families at 3pm on a sunny afternoon. We settled on sitting at the bar and had some pretty tasty margaritas but the chips and guacamole came with mostly small broken chip bits. I was excited for the paella but it was awful. We're from Portland and patronize Crown Paella - a lot! We were surprised to find authentic and well-crafted paella in Bend! I know- we were just in Madrid last winter. Barrio is a hip place downtown where I met my friend for happy hour one rainy afternoon. We chose to sit in the window where we could look out on street and watch everything going on. We ordered the margarita and the sangria and shared the chicken nachos. The drinks were tasty! The nachos had a really good flavor and plenty of toppings for sharing! The dining area filled up as we sat there enjoying our drinks. The only complaint I had was that service was a bit slow, at least on day we were there. read more

I saw I hadn't rated Barrio yet and couldn't believe my eyes! Barrio is amazing! It is probably my most frequented location for date nights! I love their specialty whiskey sour. Almost all of the dishes are created to share. My husband and I will often get 3-4 dishes depending on their size and share them. Some of my favorites are the jibarito carnitas, shrimp ceviche, gambas al ajillo, and the barrio burger (just get it, it's my favorite burger ever). Starting off with chips, guac, and salsa or a green chile Caesar are smart ways to go. Don't get weirded out by the combinations of ingredients. The chef knows exactly what they are doing and it's going to be great! read more

Be sure to order lots off the menu! So many unique flavors and dishes to sample here. We had chips and guacamole which, if I were to give anything less than 5 stars this would be it, not bad just nothing special. Tacos (pineapple bacon was the winner), patatas bravas which reminded my perfectly of Barcelona, tasty green beans, mushrooms, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts. Don't be fooled into thinking we ate healthy, everything was rich, and bacon was liberally applied. Go here prepared to have a cocktail while waiting for a table. Eh the drinks were the best part. Spicy Paloma and the pineapple mezcal were gooooooood. The Jibarito is also extremely yummy and unique. Tacos were meh and can't ever trust a place that doesn't ask how you want your burger cooked, Well done is a no from me. Have eaten in countless Mexican food restaurants around the world. And have to say that the pineapple and bacon taco is the tastiest taco I've ever tried. A great combination of tastes and spices. Excellent! We stopped by for lunch for our second visit to this place and loved it. The grilled salmon caesar salad, and the paella have also been excellent. I also had some of the grilled fish tacos (very good too) - but just loved the pineapple and bacon taco. This place is a surprise gem in Bend - a step above other good restaurants in town. The blend of spices in the various dishes is just right to our tastes. Not too strong, but a definite satisfying presence. We visit Bend a couple times a year and this is our new favorite. I'm pretty shocked that I've never written a review of Barrio! I've been there almost as many times as I've been to any other "currently existing" Bend restaurant- save maybe the theater bar at Mcm's, and though I was not a fan of the original location- prejudiced by the fact that I was disappointed their tacos did not keep the street taco style of Joel's El Sancho cart when that biz combined with Soupcon to make Barrio- which was of course always filled with the turistas to the point where there was no room for the locals. But I must say, I spend a LOT of time in Barrio since moving to the West Side. It's walking/ cruiser distance from my house, and offers the best non-El Sancho tacos in town, at a fair price. The margaritas are not the best in town, but are still quite good and not as overpriced as many. Service can be great one day, and middling the next, but I will forgive them this transgression. I end up doing a lot of work there on my laptop, post-client tours or mid-deal, right there with my three tacos (carnitas and pineapple bacon most often) and margarita on the high top, window- facing bar. Wave if you see me. If you walk by often, you inevitably will. I have also discovered that it also makes a perfect post-gym workout stop, refueling my protein and carb base with 3 tacos and a margarita (the jalapeño- cilantro is the mutal favorite of my wife and I). Or two. I have read that alcohol right after a workout is better than the mext night, and I am sticking to that. I meet friends here for HH, drag the wife out of work for lunch or an HH, stop after every workout (unless Bistro 28 is open, and hey, that's right at the gym- I am lazy and starving post-workout and they make a great G&T) for the aforementioned, and often, just stroll or e-bike down there alone, to sit in the window and either work, or just get my Mex on. If they expand the small menu to include more standard Mexican items, have a better happy hour break on food, and tighten up service justa tiny bit- five stars for sure. And I am begging them to remove the bell pepper from the queso fundido and the nacho as I am allergic but otherwise LOVE these two items, but that's not a dealbreaker! It has become my personal local place, and that's not a bad thing. PS- my daughter says they make the best PB&J she has ever had. read more

This restaurant is ambitions--and certainly unique in Bend. I think their ambition is clear in the aesthetic they are cultivating. It's a Mexican restaurant that serves Spanish style tapas. Sounds intriguing. I only wish I could speak highly of the food. But frankly, the food options are pretentious, the quality is not great, the flavors were off, and it is far more expensive than other local Mexican options that have far better tasting food. I'll quality that clearly by saying that this is my own opinion--and the opinion of the good folks I was dining with. Clearly, many other Yelpers love this place and I may be in the minority. I will also be clear to say the staff is friendly and service is very speedy--even on a busy night. Used to love this place but service was marginal and the Barrio salad I always order had black wilted lettuce in about 1/3 of the salad. Really unappetizing. I had the golden horchata to whet my whistle while my husband enjoyed a margarita. The butternut squash soup was amazing with many layers of flavors. The patatas brava were good and the pork belly came with a hearty portion of green beans. A novel item was the duck confit empanada. Craving some tacos on a Saturday afternoon in downtown Bend and wandered into Barrio. Tacos are the jam here. My friend and I tried them all but her favorite was the pineapple bacon and mine was the chicken tinga. We started with the 2 salsa and guacamole appetizer, was excellent and presentation was cool. Been a while since I ate at Barrio, or out in general ;) but last time I was in (Fall 2019), I was with a group of 10 a couple hours after our happy hour began. It was later on a Friday, but they seated us, served us and fed us delish food and margs with friendly, attentive staff. What is inspiring this post today is walking past the storefront yesterday afternoon and noticing all the Black Lives Matter postings. Yes yes yes we love Barrio. From the salsa and guac assortment that they give you to the tacos to the drinks ohhh the drinks are mighty tasty! You really cannot go wrong here. Only downfall is its really noisy like cafeteria noisy. So if you want intimate date environment this might not be the place, but if you want good food and fun this is the place indeed. If you are looking for an amazing Latin restaurant with a good fusion of multiple types of food, then hurry on over to Barrio! Rainy Saturday and after hitting a few shops and talking to some shop owners, we were sent to Barrio for lunch and cocktails. We all enjoyed the margaritas and after several got down to some serious eats! Food: Everything we tried was amazing. We had daily soup special which was black bean and chicken, Winter Sally Salad, lunch special that was these amazing wings with salad and beans, chilaquiles, and the Sonoran hot dog. Bit after bit we just kept eating and enjoying. Nothing we tried was less than stellar. The kicker? Cinnamon churros with chocolate sauce. Holy Shit Show this stuff was warm and crispy and amazing. Service was great! Place was fun and had a solid vibe. Go and lose yourself for an hour or so and then hurry back to try it again! read more
