Bar Dojo is a hidden little gem located in a little plaza in Edmonds and they offer an amazing Happy Hour menu. Came here on a Friday night with two others and we decided to try a few popular items such as their lemongrass beef bowl, their dumplings, oysters, pork belly nachos, and their dessert. My favorite was the avocado rice over the lemongrass beef! The flavors were amazing and on point and it's a dish I would highly recommend. The only thing I would probably change or not order again would be the dumplings. It was a bit too salty for my liking and the soy sauce was very very very overwhelming. If you guys are craving dumplings and wanted to give this dish a try, I would suggest to ask your server to have the sauce placed on the side. I promise you will thank me later! I was craving some ramen, and this spot came up near me on Google Maps. My husband was NOT craving ramen, so this looked like a good spot with lots of variety. Compromise, right? ;) They don't actually have ramen in the traditional sense, but they have a Spicy Chorizo Ramen and another noodle soup hiding under the name of "Grandma's Braised Beef." I had "Grandma's" as our server called it. The beef was tender and delicious; there was a nice variety of veggies and spices. It could use more noodles, and it was far too salty (I couldn't finish it due to the saltiness actually). He got The Dojo Burger, which was really good and perfectly cooked. Loved the aioli and the Beecher's cheese; the fries were on point. We also shared the pork dumplings as an appetizer, which had great flavor but were a little over steamed (a bit soggy). Out to dinner with friends and they wanted to take us to Bar Dojo. If you go here, the pork belly tacos are a must! The flavors all just explode when you take your first bite. They are amazing. We are dumpling fans so we also got the dumpling appetizer and they were also delicious. Tried the tempura which was good and had an amazing ginger based relish served with it. You could very easily just have appetizers and call it good. However the main courses are very tasty. I had the Kalbi ribs, they were good. Not great but good. My gf had the pork belly bowl. I was jealous, it tasted amazing, mixing in the egg on top made it all the more flavorful! The risotto that my friend had was also amazing. Tasty drinks, good company and great food on a Saturday! So I went there today for Seattle restaurant week and I got the salmon rissoto. It was not worth it. I paid a total of $46.75. Yep they charge us 21% gratuity for only 6 people. Even though it was a 3 course meal. Food wasn't a lot. The salmon was very small. For $46.75 I rather go somewhere else to get my money worth. They say the salmon was king salmon but honestly it is not king salmon. I'm very disappointed. I will not go back here ever again. read more

So, I walk into Bar Dojo last night early for a get-together with friends. The lovely server asked how I was, and I told her, honestly, not great as I had just received a $1,500 water bill and those investigating couldn't find the source. I said I would be drinking a bit tonight, and I ordered a Manhattan. The Manhattan came and the server said it was comped tonight because of my water issues. I was so affected. It has nothing to do with a free drink, which I can afford. What a lovely thing that a manager who hears from a server about a customer's plight makes that gesture. Bar Dojo is located in a strip mall at the Five Corner above the Edmonds bowl, which means it's possible to visit without worrying about finding a place to park in downtown Edmonds. It's expensive. The plate of five tiny fish tacos to share were sensational. Unfortunately, the entrees we ordered were not. The black cod and the red curried noodles were the most beautifully presented, perfectly prepared, and blandest dishes we've ever encountered in a restaurant anywhere. The noodles were overcooked. How is it possible to make a bland red curried anything? I'd go back to eat a full order of the shared fish tacos. and skip everything else. The fish tacos truly were worth the visit. read more

Pork Belly Ramen, unfortunately the pork belly was total fail. Its a roll of pork belly sliced which tasted like old turkey and completely under seasoned and lacked all texture, avoid the dish. read more

I cannot believe it has taken me this long to come in and try this place. The place is small and the atmosphere is good. There is a full bar. We started with: Edamame (complimentary), Crispy Calamari, Seared Sesame Ahi Tuna, and a bottle of wine. Then individually we ordered Coconut Red Curry Noodle Soup, Lemongrass Beef Noodles, Crab and Poke Bowl and Avocado Rice. We ended with a Screw Pine Brulee. The food was delicious and the portions are good sized, large enough to share, and they do split it into two plates. I'm slightly embarrassed that I didn't catch our servers name, he did an outstanding job, very personable and engaging. He offered good recommendations when we asked. Our group was interested in coming back and he let us know the weekly specials. They have brunch on the weekends. Tuesdays you get half off wine bottles. Since this place has opened which was less then a month ago, I have already been back a handful of times! It's one of those places that keeps you coming back for more! The first time I went we started with the Tempura Avocado (wow) melts in your mouth! My entree was the Beef Noodle soup and my husband got the Green Curry Clams (which comes with these little fried rice cakes to dip in the broth) brilliant! Both plates were incredible! As we waited for our entree I couldn't help but stare at what others in the restaurant had ordered and what was being dropped at their tables by the ever so friendly staff I must add! So to follow this fantastic dinner, my husband had asked the owners if we could have a small staff Christmas party AT BAR DOJO for his company. Which we did! Every employee from his company was as thrilled as we were about this new place that is so different then anything else Edmonds has to offer!! That evening we started with a few rounds of the , Avocado, Edamame, Coconut Prawns (best I have ever had), and then for my Main course I tried the Lemongrass Chicken! SO delicious! Desert was next, holy cow I don't think I have ever had such luscious tastes from Creme Brulee, and the Green Tea chocolate mousse! (Yozers) Since then I have now had repeats of a few of the starters, the New York Steak (Oh man that squash with the ginger perfect mouth watering touch), The Wild Salmon (has a great kick to it- I heart spice), The Ginger Salad (yum), The Green Papaya Salad (double yum!), and the Beef Satay (soooo good), all I can say is that I will be back for more and more, and love to approach the menu trying everything, not one time have I walked away unsatisfied, and they make sure that you are happy which I really appreciate, you really feel that the staff is like a family there inviting you into their home! I was very surprise with there service the last time we were there was about 3-4year and back then it was good , however this time around it was really bad the tempura cauliflower was very salty and we waited for our entree ,it took about 20min to get an answer from a waiter not even our own waitress was there , and I observe that there not really good at seating people there was a disabled lady on her walker and she was lead to the very narrow far end of the restaurant and she wasn't pleased at all you can really tell they need a lot of training on service period won't be coming here anymore read more

It was close to my house and I didn't want to drive all the way to Bellevue or Seattle downtown, that kinda night, you know. I just looked up new business places and this place popped up. And this place is pretty darn better than my expectation, to be honest with you. I love the atmosphere and especially the music is my type. A lot of places have good food but fail to have nice music that goes well with them. I went in at pretty late night but they were still nice and food was perfect. Also their cocktails are really delicious. I think I tried two fruity drinks and it was just perfect- not blend or too strong, or not too sweet. Just good. The server was very kind and nice, constantly available and checking on how we were doing. Their beef noodle was really good - I expected to be salty like other Asian fusion wannabe restaurants. But wow, their food is actually good - noodle, soup, lots of beef pieces... mmmmm.... I think the server told me that it's chef's grandmother's recipe or something - That's why! It's a good place to dine in when you don't want to drive too far but still want to go somewhere descent and nice with your date or friends. read more

3.5 stars, I'll round up because I'm a fan of the desserts menu here. I came to Bar Dojo not realizing that it's literally a couple doors down from what was formerly a pho restaurant my family used to frequent. The location is not ideal as there's nothing fancy about this complex. There's a bodega next door and an aging teriyaki joint overdue for a revamp on the other side. Sorry, but yucky location. Once I stepped inside, I almost completely forgot that we're in a strip mall. We were warmly greeted and shown to our table. We had made a reservation for a Friday evening dinner, but we would've been fine without one too. We ordered a few dishes, since we figured the plates would be smaller. Some of the dishes, like the pork belly tacos, were awesome and some, the like chicken curry noodle soup, were just flat. If the dishes had been more consistent, this would definitely be a solid 4. It seems that they update their menu seasonally, because I wasn't able to find some of the Yelpers' favorites. They do a great job with desserts, so definitely leave some room for desserts! I've come here just for desserts when I don't feel like driving down all the way to Seattle after a casual dinner in the 'burb. I like that their desserts are not too sweet and perfectly portioned (read: small-ish) because I have no self-control when it comes to sweets. Service can be a bit slow but always friendly. I had to try this place because there aren't a lot of finer dining options in Edmonds. I was so disappointed in the experience. First, most of the food was tasty. However, when the food is priced as high as downtown Seattle, I'm going to judge you against those restaurants. Bar Dojo doesn't compete. The strip mall type location is a bit off-putting, but I was open to them "whisking me away" with the atmosphere. Unfortunately, I could see straight into the kitchen, and I got to watch wait staff loiter about and look like they had nothing to do. Yikes! The place is small enough that we could also hear every server at every table. Some of the things I heard just don't fit in with the prices. The food was small and not creatively inspiring. The coconut shrimp were yummy, but my companion couldn't eat them because they were undercooked and that grossed her out. The cocktails were spendy, but I love a good quality cocktail. The $13 price tag didn't stop me from ordering. The drink that arrived was simply average, ho-hum... I can tell that they want this restaurant to be special, but there needs to be more attention to detail and more creativity to warrant those prices. read more

All I have to say is DOJO BURGER! It's my favorite burger on the planet. Definitely recommend topping it with cheese and a friend egg. It will not disappoint! I am completely in awe of my HH/ dinner last night at Bar Dojo. This place is truly a hidden gem, that I am guessing will be not so hidden for much longer! Service: PLUS. The bartender (after consuming three glasses of wine, I can no longer remember his name ;) was quite charming and fun to chat with while eating at the bar with three friends. Clearly, he had been there for a while and had a loyal following, as many of the others at the bar were regulars who knew him well. Food: GIANT PLUS!! Because we were 4 people there for Happy Hour, we were all able to try quite a bit of the small plates. I can truly say that every single thing that I tried was amazing! Pork belly tacos, avocado tempera that other yelp'ers have mentioned were delicious as advertised. Also tasty were: hurricane popcorn, green bean fries, oysters on the half, salt and pepper fries, crispy tofu (another fav of the night!), braised tea egg, sauteed bok choy, coconut prawns. And the desserts~ Good god, extraordinary! Screw pine brulee, and the smoked tea chocolate mousse were both incredible. One of the friends tried affogato for the first time and had her mind blown-- she's not a very adventurous eater so I was a bit concerned about the black sesame gelato, but she was thoroughly in love ;) I can't wait to come back and bring my husband, my sister, her hubby, my parents, oh and wait-- every other food lover I know! 5 stars, Bar Dojo.... Maybe I should quit writing reviews since I am a pretty good chef myself, but I am just tired of places that overcharge for food. Sure, there are some interesting dishes, but they are not anywhere worth the prices they charge here. The beef in my sliders was raw on the inside. Very little taste. My crispy chicken was nothing special. It tasted like it was just deep fried Costco frozen wings. The avacado tempura and tofu fries were unique and tasty...but highly overpriced. I brought a coworker here for a annual review celebration that turned into an elongated happy hour. Our evening was so successful we decided to host our clients celebration HH. The group of 10 quickly grew to a crew of 25, Bar Dojo handled the whole thing with professional grace. From being able to order food ahead of time, to setting a section of the place for us to gather to getting drink ordered and delivered quickly, their service was impeccable. Even as the party died down the continued to bring out food/beverages as requested. This has been my favorite hometown restaurant/bar EVER!! The food is amazing thanks to an amazing executive chef/owner. The service-Awesomeness! And most importantly for me at least because I be Irish, the bar pours the best drinks, bar none. Props to the incredible Bartender with the blonde hair... You know who you are! What a wonderful surprise from Bar Dojo, don't judge a restaurant by the outside location is all I have to say! The food was fabulous, we had a fixed Valentine's Day menu but every dish was excellent- the beef tartar, ahi poke, sashimi, Dungeness Crab bisque (delish!!) and the entree's - lobster tail, filet mignon and miso glazed salmon was really yummy. To top it off, the desserts were wonderful - the fritters and the penacotta - raise the roof good! We will be back. read more

this is in a neighborhood strip mall, right about one of those round abouts. i thought was in australia! it's small and i overlooked it. my navigation skills are horrible. inside, there is a small seating area and a bar. it's a little bit dark inside. although the the windows along the front could allow for a lot of natural lighting on a nice day. the food....it's a mixture of styles. we had tacos, some fried rice and risotto. hmm, i'm not even sure how to describe it. everything was pretty good, but not necessarily outstanding. prices are moderate and match what you get. staff was super friendly and quick to us, so no complaints there. if i'm in the area, i would stop in again. read more

Came with a group of 7 on a Saturday about 15 mins after opening. The bar was already full for HH. They made it no big deal that we were 15 mins late for our reservation and seated us promptly with a smile. Everything on the menu sounded delicious, with the prices to reflect it. We were very, very happy with the food. Even the comp edamame with fried garlic and salt was superb. We started with poke tacos and coconut shrimp, 5 each per order. Everyone ordered their own entree and took bites off each other's plates. We ordered Grandma's braised beef, soft shell crab bowl, pork belly bowl, spicy pork noodle soup, Asian sticky back ribs. From the flavorful broth of the noodle soups to the creamy avocado rice in the bowls we had no trouble finishing our meals and were quite satisfied. Located in an unassuming strip mall, this restaurant is a wonderful surprise. It is a small, intimate setting with a bar area and regular seating. They offer 1/2 price wine night on Tuesdays, Live music on Wednesdays and a great Happy Hour Menu at the Bar. The food here is excellent. They have a rotating menu that supports fresh local seafood and vegetables. Their bar offers local beer on tap and special local spirits. They also have Ballard's D'Ambrosio Gelato and Sorbettos on their dessert menu. My point is they are a restaurant that fosters community in both their customers as well as their menu. I've spent many a luscious dinner with them for special occasions and the hubster and I like to make a Happy Hour pit stop as often as we can. We prefer to sit in the bar as we like sharing camaraderie with the local patrons and the bar tender takes excellent care of his patrons. Recently we were blown away by the Seared New Bedford Scallops. They litterally melted in our mouths and I found that I was disappointed we decided to share this plate! The variety of the menu ensures there is something for everyone in your party, with everything from lovely Ramen and Noodle Soups with tasty broths to plates of Fresh Fish, Chicken or even a Flat Iron Steak. Then there is the shared plate options of which we've made many a meal of. Our regular Happy Hour Choices are the Coconut Prawns that are covered in soft yet crispy fresh Coconut and the Sliders are perfect for two with skinny frites just the way I like them. I must also mention a big plus here are the condiments they offer. They are creative and elevate whatever is on your plate. A bit too much for me. We ordered the fried tofu, calamari, tempura, & pork belly tacos. Tempura avocado...? Just not for me. Calamari seemed soggy, perhaps they are putting a sauce on it in the back and not getting it out to us fast enough...? I was kind of expecting the tofu to have a breading....like panko. But no it was just super fried tofu, topped with yummy spicy pickled veggies. Husband said the pork tacos were alright. Everything looked amazing. Plated beautifully. Let me just say the service was out of this world. The man who seated and waited on us was perfect. He wasn't pushy, he wasn't flashy, he just gave us the information we needed and tended to our requests. The food was like nothing I've really ordered before so my boyfriend and I just chose chicken katsu and a beef noodle dish. The serving sizes are on the smaller side, and the food is on the expensive side. So yea it's definitely a Tapas restaurant. The outside isn't very impressive but the inside is extremely cozy, clean and stylish. We also ordered their Furikake fries but I wasn't crazy about them. I'm glad I tried it out though. My chicken katsu was wonderful and my boyfriend's beef dish was sooooo tender and juicy, I don't even like beef but I thought it was delicious. After dinner I ordered the mochi dessert which was gorgeous and very exotic, it was fun to eat. All their desserts look 5 star! I wanted them all. For both of us, with tip, the bill came to around 40-50 dollars so....come here if you want to splurge at a cool place and try something really different. Let me start by saying that you need to look past the dated parking lot and convenience store next door. The inside is clean and a whole other environment. Food is a unique asian fusion that tastes great and most are gluten free or can be made gluten free. They use gluten free soy sauce which is a real treat for my wife since a lot of places over look that cooking with soy sauce adds gluten to a meal. We started with a small plate of pork belly tacos which were super flavorful and a few drinks from the extensive bar list. My wife had the black cod which was a a bit of a let down because it still had some bones in it. I had the shrimp and grits which had just the right amount of kick to go with a nice creamy scoop of grits. We finished our meals off with their spin on a creme brulee which was great. My girlfriend and I happened to stop by this place when we were on a little weekend trip to the Seattle area. And it was great! In fact it was so good that we decided to stop by a second night before we left the region. I understood that they had recently opened and I have to say, they did a great job. It looks great and clean and just has a good feel to it. We tried a few things on their menu (since we went there 2 days). The Chili Lime Wings and the Coconut Prawns were very tasty. The Oysters were one of the best I've had. My favorite item on the menu is a close call between the Braised Beef Noodles and the Grilled Short Ribs. Very flavorful and highly recommended!
