Amazing dinner. Unique Asian fusion food. My wife and I split the smoked duck risotto and the special burger with truffle fries. The risotto was done very well, very creamy. I enjoyed Bar Dojo overall, but there were a lot of things that could have helped the meal. The overall flavors were pretty good and the concept is also something I enjoy (small plates; family style), but I was a bit disappointed in some of the execution. Good: The flavors were all solid. Avocado and bacon tempura was tasty and the beef stew (Grandma's braised beef) had some nice flavors. I liked the Poke tacos a lot and the seafood was fresh. Bad: Most of it was a texture thing. The yellow curry was so so; the pork belly tacos were good in a flavor sense but could have really used a harder crunch (I know the lettuce was supposed to provide that, but the juices really made the lettuce very soggy). The sweet chili wings were good as well, but they came in huge wing portions (smaller, more numerous wings would have fit better with the overall profile of the restaurant) and the texture wasn't ideal for me (I would have liked the wings to have a bit more crispiness on the outside). The calamari was forgettable. Overall, I think there are probably some better options around. read more

OMG, how is this place in a little strip mall in Edmonds??? When you walk in, it's all dimmed lights, wood paneling, and elegance. A complete and very welcome 180. Love that this place is on the northside and is easily accessible. And parkable. The food here is delicious. It's Asian fusion and everything on the menu looks good. They have a solid happy hour menu, as well as a separate taco menu! And great cocktails made by an awesome, knowledgable bartender. The servers are also very good with helping you pick out a drink to please your palette. And alcohol intake needs. I got the Geisha, which is a cucumber forward cocktail with vodka, ad it was light, refreshing, and lovely. The red curry chicken tacos are very delicious. I was wary at first-- curry, pickles, taco???-- but it works! And it was gone very fast. Will definitely check out the other tacos on the menu. The crispy poke cakes are also really yummy- the poke is ON TOP of a crispy rice cake, for clarification. The cake could have used some flavoring, but the tuna was on point. I came with two friends and we ordered three entrees to share: the risotto with lemon and snap peas (we added chicken to it), the braised short rib, and the crab and tuna bowl. All of them were absolutely delicious. The crab and tuna bowl came with a lovely, moist avocado rice, lots of veggies, perfectly fried egg, and crispy garlic. It was perfection in my mouth. The short rib was tender enough to cut with a fork, paired wonderfully with mashed potatoes and fried onions and greens. A great contrast to the tuna bowl. Then, there was the creamy rich risotto with mushrooms and chicken and lemon and peas. We nearly rolled out of there, with our leftovers in a takeout bag. Bar Dojo is a needed addition to the Edmonds area. They have decent Asian fusion cuisine that is pretty solid. For me personally it is nothing to write home about, but my girlfriend really enjoys the food and the atmosphere. We both really enjoy Shelly the bartender and for those two reasons we find ourselves at Bar Dojo pretty often. The avocado rice is ridiculously good...probably my favorite food item they have. I also really enjoy the seared ahi, and ahi tacos. My girlfriend loves the braised beef soup. All in all a good place to grab a bite to eat and a glass of wine. They also have some decent whiskies on hand for those who enjoy that. Note** the fritters on the dessert menu and the dessert menu in general is not to be missed read more

My wife and I had a real hard time trying to decide what to eat off the menu since we thought everything looked so good! The cocktails were expertly made and well balanced! My husband took me here recently for a surprise dining adventure. The offerings, while the usual trendy fare, looked enticing. To start off we were offered some soy bean pods (edamame) prepared with garlic. The crusty garlic was nice, but eating soy beans is not exactly a thrill. Up until a few years ago, these were considered cattle fodder. Not sure if the pods are to be eaten too, but we both tried eating them. Bad idea - the hulls are indigestible and woody. The beans inside are, well, soy beans. There's a reason they call them "edamame", makes them sound unusual and exotic. Well, they'll always just be tasteless, blah, chewy beans, better left for making soy sauce, etc. IMHO! I didn't eat them and would have appreciated something else that was more edible. We didn't order appetizers or salads, although we would have liked to try them. The main courses arrived with the food piled in the middle all on top of each other (I did say trendy, didn't I?) I had the braised short ribs with crispy potatoes and pea vines. The short ribs weren't all that special, but the potatoes were wonderful. I love pea vines, but these were woody, too old, I think for serving the stems. When I tried to cut them into bite size pieces, the knife I was given wouldn't cut them. This was just a bit puzzling. My husband ordered the pork chop, and although he liked the flavor, the chop was overcooked, and thus a bit dry and hard. His side dishes of purple cauliflower and yuzu slices were very enjoyable. We ordered the Toasted Coconut Semifreddo for dessert, and it was the winner for the evening. The service was pleasant. Overall, I'd say the prices seem a bit high for the size of the dishes and the uneven quality. It's obvious the kitchen is trying to make magic happen, and I'll bet they do. Hopefully, they'll be smoothing out some of the issues, such as the woody, uncuttable pea vines in the future. We'll try the place again in the future. I wasn't sure how to rate this in stars. The dessert was a 4 or 5, the mains were more like 3's. So I'm guessing about a 3.5 would be how I'd rate the evening's meal. read more

My cousin moved to the neighbourhood recently and we came to visit from Canada. We were looking for a restaurant close by that was open late and Bar Dojo did not disappoint. We tried the calamari which was unique and delicious. We also had the chicken wings and the peppers which were both really tasty. I could've eaten another order of everything, it was just that good. We all shared the fritters for dessert and whoever came up with the weird idea to make a sesame caramel sauce is a genius! I highly recommend trying this place when you are in Edmonds. It's not in the downtown core and the building is a bit strange for such a place but well worth it. If I could make the management/owners one recommendation, it would be to hire a bartender! There are about 10 bar seats and the servers were having to make all their own drinks which slowed down service. read more

We've been to Bar Dojo at least a half dozen times. They always have excellent service and very good food. We had the burger, Asian sticky ribs, and the kids chicken ramen soup this time. All were delicious, although the ribs had too much salt. I really appreciate a restaurant that has such a fantastic kids menu. 3 or 4? 3 or 4? 3 or 4? hmmm... it was difficult to decide but ultimately went for 3 because of price and flavor. I had Yelped for a place that served tapas and had a happy hour and this place came up. Planned on sitting at the bar so didn't make areservation but when we got there all the bar seats were taken. We were early enough though that they were able to sit us in the dining room at a table that was reserved but not until 7. We had a drink before dinner and decided to get a few appetizers and share an entree. The appetizers we decided on were the ahi poke tacos (good but flavorless), the pork dumplings (similarly lacking flavor) and the siracha chicken wings (outstanding!). For the entree we got the Red Chicken Curry and split it. The curry again was good but didn't knock our socks off. Along with dinner we each had a couple more drinks (a glass of "happy hour wine and beer). This, combined with the bland food is where it gets a star knocked off. The bill came and with tip, came to $160, for two people. that seemed excessive to us. I guess we could have knocked out an app or had one less drink a piece but even then the bill would have still been over $100. It's a really nice place for it's location, a side street strip mall, and the food was very fresh and well prepared even if it was a little bland. I am still waiting for Yelp to institute half star ratings or I'd give it 3 1/2 but it falls short of my requirements for 4 stars due to price and flavor. read more

This is one of our favorite places to eat in Edmonds. Cool, hip and AMAZING food. Dragons fire served UP is our favorite drink and literally all the food is awesome. This restaurant has been a local favorite of mine for several months. So much so that I even noticed subtle changes in the menu during my time visiting. Hint hint if the management is reading this bring back the fried octopus with chilies and aioli. The new octopus dish just doesn't compare. I would rate the chicken wings here a 3.8/5. The wings are well cooked in the meat is very responsibly sourced, however the chili sauce accompaniment was a bit one dimensional in its pure heat and intense scoville level. The staff service is always great, we love coming here for happy hour and sitting at the bar. My girlfriends favorite drink to order is the geisha, a wonderful drink if I say so myself. They always have my Tito's on deck as well. Top marks for a small but dense bar selection and great bartenders. Some points must be taken away however for the portions being significantly smaller during happy hour. Admittedly, the portions should be larger for the price paid especially considering the neighborhood. I could understand if the prices and portions were at this level where we in a Seattle neighborhood or somewhere further south, but it does seem a bit out of place in Edmonds. Either way, if you are OK with paying a bit more for very high-quality and responsibly sourced food then bar dojo is worth a stop in. read more

We came here on a whim on a weekend in January for an impromptu date night while perusing local places to eat after grocery shopping. We were met with a nice dimly lit charming restaurant in a very unassuming strip mall. The hostess asked us if we had reservations, we didn't but she offered to seat us if we thought we could have dinner in 1.5 hours . We thought it was a reasonable amount of time. The restaurant is small but cozy. I didn't feel claustrophobic but I could see how someone might be, at the tables that are pretty close together. The service was very personable, friendly and nice. Our waiter was awesome and very attentive! I wish I could remember his name! The appetizers we ordered were: Pork Dumplings- juicy, flavorful pork in a thick skin, we thought it was pretty tasty, not the best but good. Salt and Pepper Octopus: Perfectly fried, not tough at all, and the seasoning was good Seared Ahi Tuna- Decent, but a bit overpriced Entrees: Hubby ordered the Bar Dojo Burger, he thought it was good but a bit overpriced for what it was. I ordered the Hoisin glazed prawns- The prawns were cooked perfectly, the rice was a bit on the overdone side. Overall good experience at Bar Dojo, service was excellent, food was okay, ambiance was pretty good. We may give it another try. read more

I came here for Seattle Restaurant Week. My friend and I ordered the yukhoe- this was surprisingly good, it reminded me of poke. I liked how it was served on the rice cake. The textures were a perfect combo. coconut red curry chowder- this wasn't bad either but I've had better chowders. I honestly didn't taste the coconut red curry part. It tasted like a normal clam chowder. miso glazed roasted salmon- this entree was a WIN. My salmon was cooked perfect and the mushroom risotto was on point. The portion size was huge. I would definitely order this again! chorizo ramen- this was only so-so. We felt like it needed more seasoning, wasn't very flavorful but again the entree size was huge. pumpkin brulee- perfection! This was yummy. The pumpkin itself was flavorful and very soft while the crust was cooked to a perfect crust. The portion size was right on, we actually thought it would be smaller. coconut chocoalte chip affogado- I liked the idea of pouring the coffee over the ice cream but they forgot to add my chocolate tuile. The coffee was good though. Unfortunately, I wouldn't go here with the regular prices they have. I have had better quality food for better prices. read more

This place is very unique in the best kind of way. Nothing on the menu was familiar to me at all. They server these weird steamed beans as a complimentary orderve, and like a fool I started eating them whole. You're supposed to bite them and slide the bean out lol. I had no idea what anything on the menu was or would taste like (i'm not super cultured). As an appetizer we got dumplings which were outstanding. I got a ramen burger which is basically a burger patty and two cooked ramen patties. Everything there is top quality ingredients and everything seemed to have it's own unique taste that I'd never tasted before. The live music was really an great touch too not sure if it's every night but it started at 7pm on a tuesday for me. The flamenco guitarist/vocalist is very talented and also very funny! Bad ahi poke nacho experience My bf and I have been a regular customer at this place and during covid, we do more take out than dine in. In our recent 2 online order of ahi poke nacho (total with tips, tax is about$30 an order). My bf is the only person consumed this dish because it is his favorite and the portion pretty much only serve one person dinner. He has gotten very sick from the dish, we're talking about all night long vomiting until your stomach is empty , painful and yet still vomiting biles. Restless night from getting out of the bed every 5 mins to vomit continuously for 5-6 hours. No fun! 1st time it happened, we weren't sure if it was the ahi nacho but we suspected it is because it was the last thing and only thing he ate for dinner. 2nd time this happened was last week Thursday night dinner. And now, we're certain it's the dish. I called the restaurant on Saturday at 4pm wanting to let them know and ask that for them to be more mindful and aware of this situation. The only thing I got from the other end of the phone was "ok. Thanks, I'll pass this on to our chef" I thought the response was extremely lack of basic customer service. Where is the "I'm sorry to hear this, is he ok now?" Or " sorry to hear this, can you give me your order number and we'll double check with the chef to make sure that batch of poke is destroyed to prevent any other potential similar situation, I hope he's doing ok now.." or " sorry xxxx, can we comp your dish or next time on us?" I mean, really, we are not asking for anything monetary in return but not even a simple apologetic type of wording in the response and or a nice gesture of you care about your own ppl in the community? I went there yesterday for a quick meal before the Mariner's game. Happy hour food is awesome. We had the pulled pork sandwiches along with the yakisoba noodles with shrimp and other stuff. This is my go to bar and restaurant. The cocktails are spot on. I their atmosphere and overall consistent, neighborly feel. As for the food, I've contemplated getting a tattoo on my neck with letters BD- cuz I love the food/drink that much and I want to share it with the world. The dictionary defines Asian fusion as: Bar Dojo. Look it up. I also must confess...I really love Matt, the in-famous (get it, iThree Amigos!), bartender. He always (mostly) remembers my drink. He's tender hearted, soulful, SO sarcastic, quick-witted and sassy... just like his drinks. Ask for the Thai basil gimlet- not on the menu anymore, but THE best drink created by him and he loves loves loves to make it!
