My favorite restaurant....period! I was sooo happy to hear that chef Schubert Ho was back in the biz. My husband and I came down on a whim and were so happy that we did. Impeccable service, food and atmosphere. You can bet we will continue to come back! Wonderful happy hour menu and drinks! Hooray! Plus, they're close to our house, which makes it even better! Hidden gem. The place is small with really nice atmosphere. Great place for a date night but also great for groups as well. There is a full bar. Décor is on point with the modern Asian feel. Our server was fantastic! He had a lot of energy and recommended some food and wine. He let us taste a few different ones before we ordered a bottle. We asked if the server was a part owner of the place (because he was extremely attentive and great) but he said he wasn't :) He was just awesome! I have never, ever, ever been disappointed in this place. The staff in this little neighborhood restaurant is friendly, warm, knowledgeable, and wonderful.The food is always excellent but it can be hard to get in sometimes so make a reservation to be safe. It seems odd that this place is so good when you see that its tucked inside a small little strip mall in Edmonds. But don't judge it by the location because if you do you will be missing out. The food ..... if you like burgers it is by far one of the best burgers you can imagine. It has everything that makes a perfect burger the meat is tender and cooked to order with charred shisito peppers beeches cheese and a cilantro aioli. You can order it with and egg, bacon and/or avocado on top and why wouldn't you? It is big enough to split with someone and it will leave you feeling like you may order it again next time... but then there are the pork belly nachos. They are everything that you can imagine to blow your nacho mind. They are warm, they are cool, they are crunchy, they are soft, they are rich, spicy, tart and satisfying every taste bud that you have all at once. Mind blown. The poke tacos are always perfectly fresh, spicy, cool, crunchy and served with a cilantro cream sauce.. A MAZ ING.... And then there's The Smoked Duck Risotto and a nice glass of Mark Ryan Syrah. This is what I dream of on a rainy evening. It has no match for me. Oh man, this risotto kicks everyone else's risotto butts. It is a creamy meyer lemon & edamame risotto, leeks, bunashimeji mushrooms, sugar snap peas, parmesan, crispy leeks and the duck is smoked on the premises! it is so comforting that I just want to sink into it and really linger over every bite. I am always ready to go to this place with the intention of trying something new but its extremely difficult to try new when they food I have tried has changed me forever. How did such a classy little restaurant show up in this corner of Strip Mall Suburbia? It was like walking into a fancy restaurant downtown, only right in my backyard! The entrees were amazing - the tempura was flavorful and not greasy, the mussels were tangy and sweet, and the dish I didn't expect to like (sliders) ended up being my favorite thing. We sampled 5 dishes, had flights of red wine and several artisan cocktails, AND dessert, and every last thing was delicious. What a hidden treasure! If you're a foodie, you must try this place. Service was friendly and very attentive. The only problem I saw was the price (I can't afford to eat here much), but you DEFINITELY get what you pay for. Asian Fusion done right. The Setting: Fairly small and simple restaurant decent for small groups or couples. The bar didn't have any TVs, pretty plain bar. Mostly casual. The Food: All entrees had nice attention to presentation made. The Pineapple Wings were hearty and delicious. The Black Cod Kasuzuke was good but I think way over priced. Braised Beef Noodles were very tasty. The Service: The service was great, the waitress was attentive and the general manager greeted everyone. The food and service are fine dining quality, but the setting didn't have that charm to make it as good as a special-occasion type of restaurant. There are a lot of other options at this price range, but for specifically Asian Fusion, Bar Dojo is at the top of my list. Maybe not completely fair comparisons, but Wild Ginger and Monsoon East are examples of Asian Fusion done wrong. read more

A great place with an eclectic Asian fusion menu, Bar Dojo will satisfy your desire for something different, something spicy and something satisfying. The kind of place where if there's any broth (or curry sauce) left in your bowl, you want to take it home and have it tomorrow over rice for lunch! Smallish place with a comfortable decor, nice bar in back with maybe 7 stools (get there early for happy hour!) and attentive service. As others have mentioned, this is the kind of place where you immediately want to come back to order what your table mates (or those next to you) ordered, because it looks so good! My family was excited to take me here on my last night of my visit! We were able to get in and out for what looked like a VERY popular happy hour. The food was good, I got the red curry and the noodles were just too soggy and overcooked to even pick up with chopsticks. Overall the flavor was a little bland and not quite spicy enough for me even when we asked for extra homemade chili sauce. TIP: if you get a curry dish ask for some Jasmine rice to GO! Pour the rice into the curry when you get home and have a delicious hearty curry rice bowl! The atmosphere was nice and seemed slightly upscale with a PACKED bar for half off wine bottle night. Would come here again to try some of their other dishes but mainly because it was so conveniently located. read more

I enjoyed Bar Dojo overall, but there were a lot of things that could have helped the meal. The overall flavors were pretty good and the concept is also something I enjoy (small plates; family style), but I was a bit disappointed in some of the execution. Good: The flavors were all solid. Avocado and bacon tempura was tasty and the beef stew (Grandma's braised beef) had some nice flavors. I liked the Poke tacos a lot and the seafood was fresh. Bad: Most of it was a texture thing. The yellow curry was so so; the pork belly tacos were good in a flavor sense but could have really used a harder crunch (I know the lettuce was supposed to provide that, but the juices really made the lettuce very soggy). The sweet chili wings were good as well, but they came in huge wing portions (smaller, more numerous wings would have fit better with the overall profile of the restaurant) and the texture wasn't ideal for me (I would have liked the wings to have a bit more crispiness on the outside). The calamari was forgettable. Overall, I think there are probably some better options around. read more

You would never know that there is a stylish, modern-Asian restaurant in this place from the street. My wife and I visited when we were in the area and needed a bite. We got there at opening and were well-treated right off the bat. We ordered the pork belly tacos and the dumplings and shared them, as is recommended. We each had a local ale as well. The food was really pretty, and the portions were right. Also, it was fresh. We like the pickled stuff on the tacos, particularly. We ended with the sesame affogato (ice cream), which you pour french- pressed coffee over. It was the best part of the meal. While the entrees were tasty, we felt like neither dish was significantly better than we could have made at home. So it wasn't a bargain. It's the morning after having dinner at Bar Dojo and I'm still wishing for more. Had to try the avocado tempura which did not disappoint: creamy yet firm and crunchy. The pork belly tacos are everything they've been said to be: salty, sweet, spicy with just the right touch of acid. The clams were fairly good but didn't seem tremendously fresh and were served oddly enough with french fries - a strange pairing. But it's the salmon skin I continued to crave last night and continue craving this morning: crunchy with just enough meat to make you reaching for more. A true find and I will be back for sure! I have wanted to swing by for some time. This is a great little Asian fusion place. There is a lot on the menu: noodles, apps, burger, etc. We started with the new Ahi tacos. They are Ahi Poke in fried wonton taco shell. They were really good. I had the burger, no cheese. It comes with blistered Shishito peppers on top that, of course, put in the burger. It was a bit too juicy and sloppy, but had great flavor. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. It is a bit pricey for the location and what you are getting. read more

First off, this place is kind of hidden in a little strip around a round a bout, but I'd heard about it, so I specificially sought it out. Staff was friendly, menu options looked interesting (only looked at HH), I tried the kale sprouts, they were tasty! I especially like the dipping sauce. The bar area is super small, and fills up fast, and I turned around and saw only one table open when I was leaving around 6 on a Thursday night, so apparently the secret is out on this place. Would love to go back and try more things, I am a huge fan of their sister restaurant, Salt & Iron, and hear plans for another spot opening in downtown Edmonds, will have to check out. read more

When we first pulled into the parking lot of this place, we were a little worried... But we were very pleased to find a contemporary restaurant in what seemed to be an empty strip mall. We had gone in during happy hour and had a glass of red and white wine, 2 oyster shooters, oysters on the half shell, avocado tempura, braised beef short rib and wild salmon. Everything was AMAZING. This is a really great little asian fusion place hidden in a strip mall between a convenience store and a soup/sandwich spot. My fiancé and I have been here twice now - both times have been really enjoyable. The atmosphere is cool, comfortable and modern. Lots of tiny tables scattered around the restaurant, and seating at the bar as well. Service is excellent, both owners are wonderful truly accommodating and friendly. The edamame starter is super yummy - I love the garlic added. All of their small plates that we've tried are phenomenal. So far; fried green beans, pork belly tacos, tempura veggies, and the avocado rice. All really yummy - I think the rice was maybe my least favorite because I'm not the biggest fan of cilantro - but if you enjoy avocados and cilantro, I'd go for it because it's super creamy and yummy otherwise. Pork belly tacos and the green beans were probably my favorites - REALLY delicious. Honestly I enjoy their small plates more than any of the main courses I've tried thus far. I hope that changes - but I would be completely satisfied going in, sitting down with a glass of wine and ordering 3 or 4 small plates to split between two or three people. I'll be back with an updated review once I find that special entree that really does it for me. Definitely check this place out though - really a great spot! read more

If you're in Edmonds, then you gotta come to Bar Dojo. Literally everything on the menu was gluten-free friendly. They marinate their meats with tamari (gluten-free soy sauce). Even their chicken karaage was gluten-free! Yaaasssss!! We also tried the seared tuna which was good. The mister had the kalbi ribs which was decent and I had the lemon grass beef rice noodles which was fine, but I've had better. Still 8/10 would recommend if you are up in Edmonds. Went here for the first time tonight and was quite please with the overall experience. The place is part of a shopping center before you get to the main part of Edmonds, meaning parking is easier, and it's easier to get to. The decor of the restaurant is great, as it looks very new and very modern inside. Our server tonight was great, always keeping an eye on us and making sure we were okay. After he took our order, he accidentally entered it in wrong, causing a delay. Before we realized something was wrong, he came over, apologized profusely, and comped us an entree for the delay. And we still didn't think the wait for the food was too bad! The food was decent. I had the lemongrass chicken, which came with a nice sauce. The chicken itself was a bit underwhelming, but the veggies were great. My girlfriend got the ramen, which was a bit on the spicy side. We also had coconut prawns, which were quite delicious with the mint chutney. Overall, we got out of there for about $50 after the discount and tip. Without the discount, it an appetizer, two entrees, a beer, and a soda would have cost us about $70 with tax and tip, which is pretty standard for the area. We weren't overwhelmed by the food, but the service by itself was enough to make us want to go back. Definitely check it out! read more

The space is cute. The waitstaff very friendly. There was live music. It's a lovely vibe. Interesting and short enough to be manageable menu. Most everything was fine or very good. But the softshell crab ramen is a total miss. What a disaster of a dish. The breading on the fried softshell crab gets very soggy very very quickly and starts to wash away into the broth, leaving unpleasant soggy bits floating around. Broth was decent, but trying to eat the crab in the soup was kind of a nightmare. The bowl is served on this giant plate...wish I'd thought to remove the crab the instant it was served. Then I could have taken bites of the crab along with my spoonful of soup, before the thing became an unappetizing gloppy mess. Still, the red curry was very good. And the veggie tempura was okay. (I mean, how can you screw up fried veggies?). Nice to have a trio of sauces, but really only one of the three was interesting. The others bland/uninspired. Still, the overall experience was pleasant and willing to give it another try. But definitely skipping the softshell crab ramen. read more

Went here for the first time for sons 21st bday based on what I read & heard. Excellent from top to bottom. Didn't really know what Asian Fusion food was but I do now and I'll be back for more. In a neighborhood strip mall which is a little unusual for a restaurant of this caliber but super cool that it is. I could go on & on about this Dish or that, but there was 9 of us in the party with 7 different items from the menu and all were excellent. Next time I'm going for the dumplings. We will definitely be back and I guarantee you won't be disappointed. read more

Went with the kids because my son really loves spicy ramen so he ordered the spicy pork belly ramen. My daughter and I had the crispy wings, jicama salad and the pork belly tacos. My son was in heaven - and how could you go wrong with crispy chicken wings? The jicama salad had a bit too much ginger, but it was refreshing. I would say that the ambience was suited more for date night and not for 9 and 7 year olds, but the staff was great with them and it wasn't that big a deal. It was a bit pricey to bring kids for a quick bite, but it's okay because the kids inherited a bit of foodie from me. I would come back with the wife for small plates and wine the next time. A great little neighborhood Asian bistro for sure. And live music to boot on a Wednesday night. Update 2/2018: from 4 stars to now 5 stars. With Luis in the kitchen and a revamped menu, you could throw a dart and love any selection on the menu! Substitute Avocado Rice anywhere you can as it's absolutely delicious. Seriously. No joke. This place looks pretty crummy from the outside. It is in a random strip mall in Edmonds. Do NOT let the outside fool you, because it is wonderful inside! I came here for Restaurant week on a random Wednesday. The service was friendly and fast, the guitarist was charming, and the food was crazy delicious. Shubert (executive chef & co-founder) catered our wedding two years ago and people STILL talk about how good the food was. Clearly the man has some serious culinary talent, because our dinner at Bar Dojo was also amazing. The highlight for me was the Seafood bowl: a delicious cross between chirashi & bibimbap. We felt like the food was overpriced and not very good at all. We had the fried green beans which were greasy tempura style, the hamburger which was very overdone and nobody had asked us how we like it, and a risotto which was so overpowered by truffle oil that it was nauseating. It was supposed to be a shiitake and saffron risotto and there was maybe one mushroom for the entire plate and no noticeable saffron at all. In addition, the rice was not creamy the way I would expect it to be in a risotto. The atmosphere is not at all cozy for attractive either, but that would've been okay if the food was better or the price point a lot lot lower. Pan Asian? I think not. Mmmm simply and purely mmmm. Girlfriend and I was coming back from the ferry and a friend had recommended this and so we went on a whim. We hit up the bar for a late Sunday night happy hour and was completely blown away. The bar tender was funny, helped us be decisive and even let us try a few things. And the food was unbelievable.
