Okay, so what didn't I try. Well to first state, I'm a appetizer lover and snacker. However, you must not walk out without having tried an entree. So how does a girl eat her snacks and a full meal? Well, accompanied with some white wine [VIOGNIER - one of the best I have ever had] and DRAGON'S FIRE, a couple of visits later with a sprinkle of high standards coming from SF, and this is what you come out with: 1. Asti Champagne and Oysters on the Half Shell - sand free, so smooth and tasteful!! 2. COMPLIMENTARY Edamame w/ garlic? Yes please. Add some COCONUT PRAWNS (the best I have ever had and I am not a shrimp person). I cannot say no to RED CURRY MUSSELS AND FRITES. Do not forget the TEMPURA with AVOCADO (who would have thought!) accompanied with 3 amazing sauces. 3. For anyone with a grandma who made soup for them when they were little, the BRAISED BEEF NODDLE SOUP tastes like home. Oh and it hit me hard. Added a side of SAUTEED PEA VINES - I love them! Ate these greens with a bowl of rice and soy sauce everyday when I was little. 4. For the men, order the CHILI LIME WINGS, seriously, how did they get it so perfectly crispy! Extra sauce? yes please! BEEF SATAY and FLAT IRON STEAK - tender perfection. P.S. The beer list from the local breweries were much better than the beer that I could get in SF. 5. and to finish - Asti (yes again) with BANANA TART TATIN - add COCONUT GELATO (organic and local). OMG!!! I was so impressed by this place. The restaurant and parking lot are tiny, so I didn't expect to much going in. It's part of a hole-in-the-wall strip mall, but when you walk in it has the nicest ambiance and the service was pretty good too! Can be considered casual dining or you could go dressed up as well. I've been told it is vital to make are reservation here, if you want to avoid waiting. Happy Hour 4-6pm and 9pm-close. I made it in time for one happy hour glass of wine so that was a treat. The live music played by a nice older gentleman on his guitar-type instrument was soothing & an excellent addition the atmosphere. He was so sweet when I added some cash to his tip jar. I dropped in as a first-timer for Restaurant Week 2018 and was highly impressed! Definitely going back to try more menu items. We decided to order one 3-course special and a few other items to share. My thoughts: -YUKHOE: Korean style marinated beef tenderloin, basically a beef tartare on a rice cake with the perfect amount of subtle heat & several other delicious flavors. I think the pumpkin in the dish took away from that perfect consistency that you are looking for in a creme brulee. The pumpkin is strong here. Less pumpkin would have been better. -PORK DUMPLINGS (8): F'ing amazing!!! This was my 2nd favorite item we ordered. Tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Large portion as well. The dumplings were pretty big and the sauce was scrumptious! -AVOCADO RICE: Simply had to give this a try because everyone is raving about it on yelp. It was one of the craziest things I had ever tasted. Very limey and well balanced with cilantro and avocado. It was delicious, but we didn't really need it with all the carbs listed above. Their crispy calamari was a fairly big portion but didn't leave me with the wow factor. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that they have sautéed pea vines. I love pea vines and I usually see this vegetable served in Asian restaurants and they are pretty pricey. When I saw that it was only $7 at Bar Dojo, I thought SCORE!! But damn, when the nice server gave it to us, the pea vines looked butchered. I don't know how they cut the pea vines up but the pea vines looked curly and stringy. Horrible presentation! Their risotto was a good portion but I thought it was pretty expensive and I've had better elsewhere. For dessert, their hot sesame fitters were a good choice. I loved the passion fruit dipping sauce that came with it. Overall, I thought the restaurant was pretty pricey and I'll probably not going to come here again in the near future. read more

Bar Dojo is an unassuming fancy restaurant that would be perfect to take your significant other to or even just for a fun girls' night out. They have great specialty cocktails, and their plates are perfect for sharing! I actually heard about this place on the local news a few months ago close to when it first opened. The chef did a special on one of the KING5 shows and cooked some pea vines and I was intrigued ever since. Especially with all the great reviews on Yelp too. I really enjoyed the free plate of edamame that was seasoned with some kind of amazing spice and fried onions/garlic? Service was really good too. My gf and I went on a Wednesday evening and it was half off wine bottles over $50 I believe. We shared a couple of dishes including the scallop tartare (my favorite of the night!), fried tofu, soft shell crab ramen, and the pork belly tacos (2nd favorite). My least favorite was probably the ramen probably because I just had the best soft shell crab ramen in the Bay Area, and it's really hard to beat that. The scallop tartare was really tasty, tangy, and fresh. I've never had anything like it before! The pork belly tacos were meaty, and flavorful, a little different than the ones from the taco trucks. The fried tofu were pretty typical, but all of the dishes were beautifully garnished and really well presented. read more

This was our first time here and It was wonderful. The pork belly rice bowl was so flavorful. I suggest ordering it with the avocado rice instead of white rice. Our waitress, Camille, suggested that and I was so happy she did. We also got the Calamari and chicken wings. Everything was delicious. I can't decide what my favorite item was because it was all so good. The service was top notch by Camille. Honestly, I haven't had that great of service in years. They loved the food and took pictures of their plates because they were so impressed with the presentation. I personally enjoyed the avocado salad which our server split for my husband and I to share. Everyone enjoyed their meal. I told my friends that Bar Dojo's owners helped feed over 100 volunteers at Meadowdale High School's Nick of Time Foundation heart screening in November 2022. We got oysters, cauliflower tempura, burger and fries, a pork belly bowl and a kalbi beef bowl and a creme brûlée. The oysters were really good and the cauliflower tempura was just ok. Tempura to me is very crispy with any dipping sauce on the side. These came covered in a sauce that was ok but it made the tempura gloopy. Not great. My husband got a medium rare burger and fries. The burger was technically fine but kind of bland. The fries were amazing, and arguably the best fries I have had in WA state. More people need to make shoestring fries. I initially ordered the pork belly bowl but it was perhaps the stringiest pork belly ever. So I replaced it with a kalbi bowl. As someone who expects a lot more from fusion food, I can safely say I have had better flavored kalbi bowls from dives. I don't recommend these. I saw the gyozas on another table and the skin looked pretty thick so we didn't get that. The creme brûlée was perfect as many places don't make the top hard enough or it's too hard. You can taste the lemongrass but it doesn't hit you in the face. The candied lime or whatever was a revelation and I could buy a bag of those. Overall we wouldn't go back because there are better options for burgers, oysters and creme brûlée etc. They had three different menus going and all the choice. Maybe pair down your choices. Who would have known a strip mall would have such a great restaurant? This was a great neighborhood bar prior to the pandemic and I know it'll be just as great once we're close to 100% capacity. They've always had terrific bartenders, food, and servers. Kelsyn has everything buttoned down and Mathew keeps everyone laughing. The Asian fusion menu is delicious. Some of my standards are the miso avocado salad, pork belly tacos, pork dumplings, crab & poke bowl, broccoli beef, salmon kasuzuke, and the braised beef. Great menu that's got a few standards but they're unafraid of experimentation -- and it is always a risk well taken. Bar Dojo is fine dinning with flavor and class, but it is entirely lacking pretentiousness. They are just as warm and welcoming to their regulars as they are to new faces, which makes for a great atmosphere. They source locally and with seeming integrity, and i think their prices reflect those choices. I'd pay slightly more for an adventurous meal anytime. With a dairy-allergy, sometimes finer dining can be a struggle, but not the case here at all! Much of the menu is dairy-free, and the wait staff take dietary restrictions seriously and will check on any item they aren't 100% certain about. They've even had some incredible vegan dinner & dessert options of late. Came here to celebrate an anniversary with my husband on a Sunday night and the experience was absolutely delightful. I had their drink special a dragon spicy margarita and it had a nice kick and was delicious. My husband and I shared pork belly tacos, ahi tuna tacos and the cod dish. For dessert, we had the peanut parfait. The pork belly tacos were tender and flavorful with jalepenos so it was spicy, but I loved it. The ahi tuna tacos were fresh and bright. The cod dish had good reviews on here and therefore we got it. Wow! It was hands down one of my favorite fish dishes I've ever had. The meat was buttery, sweet, and melted in my mouth. I loved the thinly sliced roasted squash on the bottom. Dessert was on the house as it was our anniversary and so that was a really kind and wonderful touch with service. The parfait was creamy and sweet and a perfect end to the meal. I would definitely recommend this restaurant as it's easy to park and has delicious food! read more

Bar dojo was the hidden gem of Edmonds. Food was unusual, delicious, and consistently fresh. I could easily justify spending $100-200 for a party of 2 no problem. One thing that hasn't changed is how great the service is here. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for the food. Everything is so bland now and lacks personality and ingredients. Ramens are bland and lack flavor. Dumplings used to have a huge kick to them and now there's barely any chili. The by far biggest disappointment is the ahi tuna nachos which were my absolutely favorite item on the menu. For anyone who's a huge ahi tuna fan, you'll know exactly what I mean when I say the fish they use to procure would have the consistency of butter. The tuna is now consistently both mushy and grainy in consistency. Obviously pre frozen, but quality taste like old supermarket sushi - not good. I want to say the quality has started to go down around 6+ months ago. I keep giving bar dojo a "second chance" hoping the food will bounce back. Every time I do, I end up disappointed and I can't justify wasting money anymore on mediocracy. read more

Really enjoyed the crab and grits so got it twice on separate visits! It hit the spot and was a great filling portion. They also had amazing coffee which paired well with the creme brulee. The creme brulee wasn't the best I had - just ok but the coffee made up for it. It seemed a bit overdone and the caramelized sugar had a slight burnt taste. The seating can get a bit cozy but we were able to secure a spot near the back of the hallway by the entrance with our little one. Parking can also get tricky. Dined here a few months ago for happy hour and it was the worse dining experience we had ever had at any restaurant. The host was very friendly and gracious. The young woman server (who wasn't our server) was kind and helpful. The server that we had (a man) was passive aggressive, two faced, and not very kind. Right from the start he gave us the impression that he did not want to serve us. Was it because of my young toddler (who was on his best behavior, btw) or was it because of our skin color (we're Asian) or was it because of the fact that we were able to sit in the dining room and order off of the happy hour menu bc we had a young child with us?? I don't ever want to play the racism card, but it felt blatantly present. The "fake" friendly un-genuine small talk was definitely present. If he had a problem serving us, why couldn't he give our table away to the other server who didn't have a problem serving us? She helped us more than he did. What really iced the cake was how he didn't inform us that happy hour was ending soon so that we could put in our last few orders (which we told him we would order more items from the HH menu). Typically, a *good* server would let you know that last call for HH is approaching so you can order more items. Then when we asked him if we could order another item off of the HH menu he said that he would check and see if it was possible. He came back and told us that he was able to. When we got the bill, we were charged the full price for that very item we ordered at the last minute. I asked the other woman server to tell our server to correct the bill. He told her that he told us that he COULDNT get the order in for the happy hour price. Wtf? He told us that he WAS ABLE TO and then he turns around and tells the other server that he had already told us that he couldn't. UM LIESSSSSS. What was even worse was the fact that he hid from us and wouldn't close out our bill or come explain to us what had happened. The other server had to finish his dirty deed! At this point, my husband was furious and left the restaurant with my son. The manager finally was able to fix the issue, but never came out to apologize for what had happened. No one acknowledged us or the mistake. That's fine, whatever. Ive worked in the food industry for years and I've worked both sides of the restaurant, both front of the house and back of the house. I believe in tipping for great/good service and I always feel terrible when people tip less than 15%. However, with the horrible service that we received, there was no way in hell I was going to leave that man a penny! What stings the most is paying a lot of money for mediocre food and horrible service. Nothing's boils my husband's blood more than those two things combined. The food was okay, nothing spectacular or mouthwateringly delicious. Had it been amazing, it would have eased the pain of the terrible service. I had really high hopes for this place from the rave reviews I've read, hence the visit to this restaurant. Unfortunately, it exploded in our faces with horrendous service and subpar food. Bar Dojo has received so much attention and positive reviews that we thought we'd try it. I arrived first, and found it a bit noisy, but when my companion arrived we asked for a seat in the corner to the right of the door, where it was a good deal quieter. Staff were attentive, very nice, and helpful - no complaints there! The mini fish tacos were superb. I'd go back for more, and make a meal of them. But why five, on a plate designed to be shared? Someone is bound to be left out! Maybe for parties of 2 1/2 guests? The main plates arrived, and here things caved in. My red curried noodles were watery, over-cooked and remarkably bland, almost to the point of no taste at all. Wonderful presentation. Generous serving size. But heroically bland. My companion had the same experience: bland to the point of anonymity. Maybe a bad day? We'll try once more, and those tacos are wonderful! read more

Majority of the foods were super salty and very small portions for the amount you pay. The tea egg is more soy sauce based and not as much tea flavor I am use to of authentic tea eggs. For 7.5 dollars on happy hour you can get their wings. it came with 4 pieces. that's almost 2 bucks a piece and they were small. It was basically just deep fried no seasoning-actually needed more while the others needed way less. The tacos was super salty and very underimpressive. Meat was super dry and salty on a piece of tortilla. I did have high hopes because when I was reading the description of the foods it sounded really good but that's all it was. fancy sounding. Whoever came up with the menu description deserves a gold star. The only food I would recommend is the pork belly nachos. The crispy tortilla chips, beechers cheese and pork belly flavors really balanced out the flavors. So I give one star for the service and 1 star just for the nachos. read more
