After a few years and one other successful visit, I mistakenly decided to dine here for our wedding anniversary - I indicated this on my Opentable reservation. I was not expecting mention of it, but why ask if the information is not actionable - no mention of it? Knowing this place is on the pricey side, I decided to dine here expecting some level of service. We ordered three small plates to share - poke tacos, calamari, walnut prawns, and those were the highlights of the meal. After 40 minutes of enjoying the appetizers, our waiter takes our main order and that is when I am informed that my choice of black cod (off the fresh sheet) is not available. I've been to enough restaurants to know that is what the server's job is when you sit down aside from taking orders - to inform you what is not available. He seemed really blase about it - I was furious - I've been sitting here for 40+ minutes and NOW you tell me that the only thing I want to order is sold out. I hesitatingly selected the Thai papaya shrimp salad off the fresh sheet as a replacement. What I got was so unexpectedly disappointing - five grilled shrimp on top of a bowl full of bland bland bland shredded papaya with nary a hint of fish sauce, salt, nothing. This was seriously so bad that I sent it back and didn't order anything else, already the waiter and his laid back vibe, combined with this disappointment of a dish was enough. I told him exactly why I sent it back and he agreed. In retrospect, I could have ordered this dish for almost half the price from any Thai place and it have been 1000% better. It makes me angry they try to pass this dish off as Thai papaya salad (and he said a lot of customers like it) - it is an insult to Thai food. I should have stopped and asked for the bill but I ordered the guava cheesecake for dessert and it was ok - not the level of pastry I expect for a $12 dessert and this level of menu prices. It had too thick of a thick layer of graham crust and the guava was blended into the cheesecake but it had no guava flavor - just a pink round puck with a graham crust and odd caramel drizzle on it. Pink sweet dessert. My companions' pork noodle bowl was good, and beef noodle bowl was good, but the sneaky upcharge of "do you want avocado rice with that" should have came with the information that there is a $5 upcharge. The service was disappointing considering I'm paying to eat at a full service restaurant - our apps plates were done and should have been cleared well before our mains arrived. Either they were short staffed or ? I told a few friends we were coming here for our anniversary dinner and I don't look forward to informing them of the disappointing experience we had as I should have known better... Whatever the case, this will be the last time I dine here, no more chances. There are so many other places to eat without coming home sorely disappointed by the food and the service. read more

I literally love everything about Bar Dojo, I love how the food is so thoughtful, taste the love in every bite, I love how involved chef Luis is, the passion is unbeatable, flavors unreal, presentation beautiful and artistic. Food here is ridiculously good! The venue itself is very unassuming and not very big. While I've only been here a couple of times, every dish I had the opportunity to taste was simply brilliant! My friends and I tried this place out on a weekday for dinner. We were seated almost immediately as it wasn't too busy. From the menu we ordered for the scallop ceviche and coconut shrimp which I was a little disappointed with in both quantity and flavor (I've had better) but the kalbi and spicy pork noodles were really good. A girlfriend and I went there last night. I wish I took pictures because the presentation was so pretty! (There are quite a few pictures on Yelp though!) We both had the Miso Avocado salad and it was almost too pretty to eat! The majority of the items on the menu were either gluten-free or had a gluten-free option which my friend especially appreciated. Still my go to for Avacodo rice. Worth 7$ for a side! However my little girls me was not the quality we have been used to, when ordering take out from Bar Dojo. Price has gone up from 8$ to 11$ and quality is definitely not the same. There was 3 smaller than usual pieces of chicken, a ton of white rice....and really gross coke slaw (usually it's green beans, which she loves). The cabbage looked days old (almost turning brown) it was awful and soggy. We won't be ordering the Chicken Katsu kids meal again, especially for 11$ and such low quality. read more

An Asian fusion restaurant in Edmonds. Being Asian, I was not too sure about their food at first, but after trying, I would say their food is not bad at all. The thing that bothered me the most of this dining experience was how small and dark the place is. I was sitting facing the inside of the restaurant, looking at the bar, I could not see any windows, combined with the small space, I felt really claustrophobic. As for the food, we ordered their chicken wings, pork belly tacos, and grandma beef noodle soup. The wings were average, nothing special. The pork belly tacos were really tasty and it was enough to fill me for dinner. My husband had the beef noodle soup. The flavor of the soup was complexed, but a little heavy on anise. He liked it regardless. We probably wont come here too often since I dont like the space of this restaurant. Maybe they can find a bigger and better location! read more

My boyfriend and I stumbled in here on a Monday night which is the day of their all day happy hour. We originally had a wait time of 1 hour but got lucky and had bar seating open up! The food was so freakin good. We ordered the pork dumplings, honey sriracha wings, and beef katsu burger. It is a bit pricey but considering the demographics I didn't think it was that bad. These were probably the best honey sriracha wings I've had... you can message me if you know a place that doesn't over salt the wings with this combo! Lastly the cherry on top of our experience was our bartender Matt! He was the most busiest yet underwhelmed bartender I've seen. I could see why he had a good rapport with the others around us. He brought us out some avocado rice to try which I totally forgot to order and literally it was so good! It really sealed the deal for us to come back. Would recommend this place for date nights but also a good tip would be to set a reservation because this little place gets busy! read more

We made a reservation and it is highly recommended that you do so. Our service was impeccable and our server was new to the place, within the past two weeks new, but so wonderful and attentive without being pesky. We had a starter of the Shishito peppers. Delicious. A bit of fire to them! Moved on to Entrees of Crab Fried rice. Lots of chunky fresh tasting crab. A wonderful blend of Asian flavor with fresh ingredients. Husband had the Halibut. He loved it. Tempura asparagus. Finished off with dessert, tasty and just right. He had the Lemongrass Creme Brûlée. Just perfect while I chose the flourless cake with gelato. We also had drinks and he says his was perfect. The pandemic has really changed the landscape and expectations of what we expect when eating out now. It's either good food, poor service or poor food and decent service. Oftentimes it has been poor service and poor food quality. When both of them come together it makes us feel like the days of pre pandemic will surely succeed in returning. Bar Dojo, the chef, the waitstaff, manager and owner are doing it right! Reservation made over 1 month prior to dinner that coincided with the first day of restaurant week. Me and my friend were put in the corner which was fine but we were concerned we would be forgotten about, which is exactly what happened. We didn't get seated with the drink or restaurant week menu. Took 30 min to take our order and another 45 minutes before we got the appetizer. 2 other tables were seated around the same time--one finished their entire meal before we got our drinks and appetizer and the other was served their entree before we got our appetizer. Main course was brought within minutes of getting our appetizers and given the small table we were rushed to eat the appetizer to allow room for the plates. Check was brought within minutes of the dessert, rushing us out. Food was decent but not worth the wait. Server was nice but spoke so quickly it was difficult to understand what was being said. Will not go back. Definitely not worth the $65 for restaurant week. Only go if you have more than 2 hours to devote to a mediocre dinner. read more

We had our first Date Night since before covid lockdown at Bar Dojo on Friday night, and it did not disappoint! The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive without being intrusive, the cocktails were delicious (and strong!), the portions were generous, and everything was delicious and well-prepared. We had the pork dumplings (8 delicious little pouches of goodness) and the bulgogi fries (these are life-changing and should just be automatically part of everyone's order!), then the crab and poke bowl (the avocado rice is so creamy and delicious!) and the okonomiyaki fried rice (generous amount of crab and yummy veggies throughout). As a main entree I tried the hoisin shrimp bowl, which was really more of a plate with a ton of sauce on it and a small rice ball in the middle.
