Interesting new addition to the neighborhood! This location used to be home to The Stable, a dive-esque bar that a lot of people remember fondly, so it's safe to say Bar Dali has some big shoes to fill. I popped in on the Friday evening of Flower Mart and the place was packed. The dining area is small with limited tables and tucked away booths plus, some standing room and a good sized bar. We got lucky when some folks left and we snagged their stools soon after. My friend and I grabbed just one round of drinks since we had dinner plans elsewhere. I got the Cueva Nueva vermouth and soda which was available on draft. It came garnished with a delicious olive and was perfectly balanced. My only complaint is that for $10 it was a very small glass. The rest of the menu seems similarly priced with small pintxos going for $8 a pop. That's pretty steep for a toothpick of olives and pickles, if you ask me. It's not a very gluten free friendly menu as far as I can tell so I probably won't be returning for dinner. I personally feel like there are better tapas options for a better price nearby but I may return for another drink. read more

Had a good time visiting Bar Dali! It's early days, so they're still smoothing out the service, though everyone we worked with was friendly and helpful. Food was solid, particularly the French onion croquettes and the asparagus. The salt cod croquettes were a bit too much cod, not enough potato. Would have liked a creamier texture there. I visited Bar Dalí with a friend for dinner before play at Center Stage last weekend, and we really enjoyed ourselves. This subterranean (sexy way of saying it's in the basement) tapas bar from Spike Gjerde (chef and owner of one of my local favorites, Woodberry Kitchen, and several other projects in Baltimore) opened recently (late March/early April?), and I suspect it will make quite a splash. We made a reservation for a Saturday night (early evening) and were seated in a booth in a slightly secluded part of the restaurant. The booth area was cool (and romantic?), but the main dining area was also beautiful but comfortable. (There's something about the natural light just sliding through the front windows above street level that make you feel like you're in an older time?) I imagine the menu will change frequently, but it's generally broken up into several categories of Spanish dishes: tapas; croquetas; banderillas (tapas served on a skewer - think the classic Gilda, which they have on the menu); bocadillos ("small bites" sandwiches) and montaditos (small, open-faced sandwiches); raciones (larger plates) that are further broken up into vegetable, fish, and meat dishes. We shared a few things: French onion croquetas (with sherry mayonnaise); white bean salad (with cucumber, asparagus, and green garlic); pork belly fricando (with ancho, crema, and ramps); and a side of grilled bread (to sop up the sauce in the pork belly dish). Everything was good - no complaints! The croquetas were a fun take - and I love caramelized onions, so it was a no brainer. The white bean salad was weirdly good - cold and refreshing and the freshest of spring dishes. I'm not usually the biggest fan of pork belly (it's a texture thing for me), but I really enjoyed how they got the pork belly skin so crispy! And the grilled bread was what all grilled bread should be (just at the line of burnt and served with good olive oil in a bottle on the side). And then there are the drinks! They have everything: spritzes, vermouths, gin and tonics, cocktails (including classics like Licor 43 and a Brandy Alexander?!), beers on draft (Spanish beers, Natty Boh, and Guinness); sherry; and wine. I had a glass of their wine of the day (a natural, chilled, red sparkling wine/pet-nat from Andalucía) and a glass of Txakolina (from Spain's Basque Country) that was recommended by our server. Speaking of our server - Finn - he was the best. He was helpful (we were talking too much to read the menu but he helped us narrow down our options so we could get our order in and not be there for days) and friendly and patient with us! He made what was already a good experience ever better. All of the staff who brought dishes or glasses of wine by were also really friendly. From food to drinks, service to ambiance, Bar Dalí is one of the best new restaurants I've been to in a while. I usually go to places when they're too new and you see all the kinks that still need to get figured out and you wish you'd waited longer before checking them out. I didn't feel that way at all at Bar Dalí. It felt like they'd been open for ages. They're already a great new restaurant option in Mount Vernon. read more

Absolutely phenomenal dining experience. We weren't able to get a reservation but walk-in was only a 30 minute wait and we were seated in a cute intimate booth. Our server was amazing. I wish I got his name, very tall gentleman was so polite and gave us great recommendations. We got complimentary spanish olives which were delicious. We also ordered the french onion croquettes, roasted oysters, white bean salad, burgers, beef cheeks and churros. Everything tasted amazing and came out relatively quickly which is their tapas nature. I would definitely come back and try more dishes but overall enjoyed the atmosphere. read more

Bar Dali is your reminder that tapas are dangerous because suddenly you've ordered just a few things and now the table looks like a small festival or circus. Bar Dali just opened and brings some fun Spanish tapas vibes to Mt. Vernon. They didn't have an rezzies available so we walked in and after standing by the bar for a few mins, we were given a booth. The booths are quite intimate and cute but I think I prefer the main dining room or bar. The Catoctin Creek gin and tonic was absolutely delightful. The Bravas were spicy and yummy but could've been a little crispier. The pan tomate was decent but the bread could've been crispier too. The bocadillo with tortilla was the best thing we had. The ensalada rusa and asparagus were ok. The croquetas were decent. Basque cheesecake was just ok. Pricing was alright for tapas, thankfully not the most expensive I've seen in Baltimore! I liked the ambiance of the space, gives a speakeasy vibe. I had two of the daiquiri cocktails, the bravas potatoes and the crab and corn croquetas. Overall the food was ok, the cocktails were good BUT what I did not like and what will prevent me from coming back is the "A 20% service charge supports equitable wages for our team: additional gratuity is welcome for our service staff." I always tip well but I will not pay a service charge and gratuity to eat at any restaurant. Stop being capitalist and make it my responsibility to pay your staff a living wage. read more

Came for the razor clams and was not disappointed, but they came out before my drink, which is just bad form (and mind you, the clams were not fast to arrive.) My server wasn't very friendly and never bothered to check on me at all. It was not authentic Spanish food. No pan Cristal (I think it was grilled Italian bread) Ham croquettes had chunks of ham inside. Should be a creamy paste with bechamel sauce. Tortilla espanola was a thin spinach omelet. The patatas bravas were deep fried. The salad had one strawberry and 2 Marcona almonds--the rest was lettuce. My small mezcal sour glass came only half filled. read more

Food was so disappointing! Tortilla was dry, pan con tomate was soggy and over salted. If you're looking for Spanish food in Baltimore, try Josefina or La Cuchara (when they reopen, hopefully). Expected so much more from Woodberry chef. Staff was nice, though. read more

Bar Dali is a beautiful, cozy spot. The service is friendly and attentive. However, I would say the food is "Spanish adjacent". None of the food we ordered hit the mark. The croquetas were okay (the chunks of ham were too large and chewy). The squid smelled strong to me but my dining partner ate it. My vermut was overly sweet, like the bartender had added simple syrup or coke. The boquadillo I ordered was supposed to be chorizo and Manchego but it was a weird pressed mess of cooked sausage; not at all what I expected or wanted. The patatas bravado were the biggest disappointed. They lacked punch; no garlic or smoked paprika to be found. I'm hoping the kitchen is still finding its way. Marketing and ambiance can only do so much. Over an hour wait just to get our drinks and then over one and half to actually get seated at a table, the waitstaff seems to be struggling to manage pretty bare minimum service. Once we were finally seated, we had to ask for water refills and for our check multiple times. Nice romantic atmosphere reminiscent of Tio Pepe's if sitting in the booth area. Server was cheerful and prompt. They are newly opened and the food and drink need a little tweaking...I was excited to try the Spanish gin and tonic cocktail, advertised as having juniper along with winter herbs. Sounded like it would be the real deal. Instead of coming in a large copa glass (classic for Spanish G&Ts) it came in a small old fashioned glass with no juniper berries in sight and no other herbs aside from a sprig of rosemary. It had none of the unique herbal and spice flavors a Spanish G&T should have and it tasted like a run of the mill extremely basic G&T. In terms of the food, they offered a small complimentary dish of marinated olives and this was the most delicious bite of the night. There was a well balanced variety of olives and they were marinated to perfection. We ordered the bravas potatoes and eggs diablo to start. The bravas were ok but the presentation needed work...it was a big mess of scattered potatoes with a huge messy dollop of mayo on the side. The eggs diablo were not far off from your standard deviled eggs...nothing particularly memorable and the egg mixture was too thick in texture and cold in temperature. Also needed more acid. The ham croqueta was terrific and the second best thing of the night. Perfectly crisp surface texture and tender and savory on the inside. Lots of thought went into this dish. Did the clams and monkfish dish and the seafood was cooked well but wasn't a fan of the soggy noodles that accompanied. Finally the txuleton was a big disappointment. It did not have a deep beefy taste and the quality of the cut was very poor...it tasted like overdone bottom sirloin. Could not get over the dry and overdone taste, as the appearance was a perfect medium rare. Chalked it up to the beef itself being suboptimal. The salsa picada on the side was very good however. Bit of a mixed bag but love the concept, Baltimore needs more tapas spots. Hopefully things will smooth out in a few months. read more
