This place is great. Fun ambiance, friendly owners and staff, straightforward menu and just a great addition to the neighborhood all around. But the fried chicken sandwich. THE FRIED CHICKEN SANDWICH. No others come close - not Shack Shack, not Brooklyn Burgers and Beer, not even Momofuku, and forget about Chick-fil-A. Bar Basic have perfected the form, and you need to have it right now. And the hand cut fries are pretty legit too. I rounded out my meal with thai iced tea and that was a winner also. Good idea but poor execution. The location of this restaurant is great and the neighborhood is in need of smaller American fare spots; however, Bar Basic misses the mark. I went on a Saturday night and there were only a few customers eating at the time. The ambiance is welcoming and family friend. Our server, Nick, was really kind and welcoming. The service is good but the food is, at best, okay. I ordered the fried chicken burger and was so excited but when I bit in the only thing I could taste was the mayo and cole slaw on it. The chicken itself lacks flavor and was on the greasy side. The fries that came with it also weren't properly seasoned and tasted bland. Additionally, the mac-n-cheese poppers lacked any really flavor. I felt like everything I ate was tasteless. Lastly, my husband's burger was a sloppy mess; the tomato, sauce, and whatever else was smeared on it fell apart immediately. I really wanted to like Bar Basic because it's so close to my place but unless they start seasoning the food properly I won't be going back. read more

I have been here on multiple occasions and it's been great every time. Food comes out quickly, is fresh and very tasty. They are kid friendly, have high chairs and are extremely accommodating. The staff is always very friendly and welcoming. They have a great happy hour as well. read more

The place is just so good. Rustic, cozy and reclaimed wood bar. Three friends and I had a fantastic visit to the Bar Basic. The drinks are awesome, and the food might be even better. For food, we ordered: Buttermilk fried chicken burger Roasted jerk chicken Satay chicken The bird Mighty wings Pesto cauliflower Kitchen sink fries The satay chicken were one of the best thing I've eaten, ever, and the buttermilk fried chicken burger was my second favorite. Nothing should be skip from their food menu, all food is amazing. Finally and most importantly, you can actually have a conversation here. Definitely a new favorite spot. The staff was nice and accommodating, but our waitress was aloof. The place was maybe a 1/3 to a half full when we arrived after noon for a Sunday brunch. The table was weirdly arranged and sat two people per side when there was only enough leg room for one person per side. The food was good and a good price, though my dish came about ten or so minutes after everyone else's, and when it did, my side dish (sweet potato hash) was cold and had to be reheated. They also forgot the side of bacon (comes with the dish) on my friend's order. I'm willing to and probably will give this place a second try - I think they could easily be a 4 star place once they get they find their stride. read more

In the summer, there is outside seating in the front which makes the place cozy and relaxing. Went there this weekend with friends and my young child. My overall impression is that, like my one year old, this place has teething problems. Lovely looking place and helpful staff, but our lunches were arriving at the beginning, middle and end of our stay. I had finished my food (a burger) before the person next to me had received his (eggs Benedict). I should have probably waited, but I haven't enjoyed cold cheese burgers since my college days. Went in for the soft open last night and we were pretty impressed! Between us we had the fried chicken sandwich, gnarly burger, fries, milkshake, and prickly pear lemonade. The fried chicken sandwich was really good; I had a high bar for that one since there are a lot of good fried chicken sandwiches around these days, but this one held up. It's packed with chicken, and the spicy mayo on it was great. The gnarly burger was also quite good, albeit so jammed with good stuff that it got a little sloppy. It'll take a bit of effort not to make a mess since your plate is a block of wood. While the milkshake was quite good, the lemonade wasn't too special, mostly just sweet. It's a cute small place, with really good prices. Overall a welcome addition to the neighborhood. read more

Timing of serving 2 people at once - it's Restaurant 101. We ordered wings (be careful to specify which of the 2 options you want). My burger arrived while we were still eating the wings & it clearly had been sitting out. You know the rest. Wished we went to this place earlier. None of us were able to finish our meal since we had apps at another place before coming her. Ordered the disco fries without knowing that all our meals came with them. The wings were great. There were so many items that looked good but got the po boys and other sandwiches. On the outside this restaurant looks exactly what this block needs. Unfortunately the food is really bad. We tried the regular burger, the veggie burger and some tater tots. The regular burger was ok. The veggie burger tasted and looked exactly like a Dr. Praegers. I was surprised as the waitress said people are saying it's the best burger they ever had. All burgers were mushy and messy and were nothing like good American/southern burgers. The tater tots were swimming in oil and tasted like Chinese fried egg rolls. I am pretty sure the chef of this restaurant doesn't know much about American or southern food and I have a sense that this restaurant is owned by the same people who owned the Asian restaurant that was there before. read more

Surprisingly impressive local restaurant in the wasteland that is Seventh Avenue in Park Slope. I have become accustomed to schlepping to Bareburger or Flatbush for all of my takeout needs in the neighborhood but once, while walking my dog, I saw this place and it's ample sidewalk seating (where pups are allowed) and made note to self to grab a beer here one day. I did, and also tried the food, which was pretty darn awesome for a neighborhood place. The mac n cheese was fabulous. They have really fresh and ample healthy options, like big creative salads. So it's a place where you have plenty to choose from based on whether the devil or an angel is sitting on your shoulder (greens vs. fried chicken, hmmmm). Plenty of good draft selections and the taps are clean and beer is fresh in my experience. Also, I am loving being able to have dinner with my dog! This place just opened right near my house (and I am embarrassed to admit i've already been over 10 times). When it first opened it was AMAZING, burgers really juicy, friendly staff (they even gave away free lemonade!). However, each time i've gone back, the quality and service has seemed to have gone down a little. Don't get me wrong, still good burgers and the milkshakes will change your life...but I'm worried about what's to come if it's only been a few weeks and already things have gone a bit downhill! Last time I went in there were like 20 mosquitos around my table and food. The burger was REALLY juicy, but flavorless. Like, it seemed as if water was coming out of it. The fries were also all really small sort of too crispy pieces, like just the fried skins. Also there was one server who was also the host and taking take out orders, so the service was incredibly slow. I hope they can bring the quality back up a bit, but for now, I'm going to take a rest from this place. read more

Was visiting new york 2 weeks ago with few of my friends. Got the hangover cure with basic margaritas. Let me tell you those margaritas were on point. I went into Bar Basic this weekend to finally check it out. I wanted to get a beer at the bar and catch the end of the Yankees game. Well, they had a TV that was off so I assumed it wasn't working. Yep, thats right - a new bar with a non working TV. I was sitting at the bar for about 10 minutes before anyone even asked me what I wanted AND they weren't busy. Additionally, the staff wasn't friendly which made it feel like I wasn't in Park Slope. Unfortunately, I will not be going back here because of my experience. read more

We were excited when Bar Basic opened in Park Slope. Finally, a neighborhood place with beer, burgers, and other good food! Initially, we were delighted and went back several times. Our most recent visit was somewhat disappointing. Service was slow and the vibe was not as upbeat and welcoming as it used to be. A new wait person was seemingly being trained by the bartender, who took all the orders, poured the drinks, and took the checks. Why wasn't there another person to train her? The food was good, but not as good as usual. The french fries weren't really hot when they came to the table. I would hate to see Bar Basic disappear. We'll give it another try with the hope that our disappointing visit was a fluke! And can you please put turkey burgers on the menu? read more

We tried Bar Basic on a visit to NY and the food was good and the service good. About the only thing I didn't like was the $4 charge for a tea refill. Perhaps this is normal in NY or Brooklyn but not any other place that we dined. I would still recommend Bar Basic for the food and the service but just be aware of the additional charge for tea refills. read more

I enjoyed the food. Had fried chicken and onion rings, I believe. I liked both. The service was pretty mediocre. I actually prefer service people to be quick and not overly social because I am either hanging out with people or want to be alone, but when I came here. Everytime I needed anything I had to grab their attention. There was zero anticipation of my needing more water, or the check, or ordering in the first place, so that was kind of irritating. You don't have to say anything, but the occassional check-in or look in my direction is desireable. Finally, the prices online and in person were not the same and they had no interest in accomodating the difference even though I decided to try this place because it was slightly cheaper than a place I already know. It should have been a no brainer to comp the two dollars once I brought it up, for good will, but they didn't offer. Maybe I'll be back, but maybe not. read more
