Great for small corporate gatherings! My company organized a client pau hana on a Thursday, and the staff and management were terrific to work with - very gracious and accommodating to our requests. Pricing for their in-house catering was reasonable, and the food was great - they provided a great selection of finger foods such as flatbreads, lumpia, charcuterie, edamame, etc. Although the gathering was set for their outdoor patio space, they allowed to spend the first hour inside (they opened at 4 pm), which was welcome given the August heat. The patio was warm for some, fine for others. One last tip for event planners - might want to ask about plates as they indicated they don't regularly carry them, instead offering napkins for the finger foods. Wandered on down to this gem for the unofficial "after party" of the Yelptoberfest with some awesome yelpers and we had a jolly good time! The crowd here that night was small and chill. The DJ was rocking out some good old school tunes which made me want to get my jiggy on!! I held back though, didn't wanna get too nuts after my first yelp event. I sampled a piece of pizza that I think Mike S. ordered, LOVED IT! We went on a bar-hopping spree a few weeks ago and this was stop #2 (I won't review stop #1 because it was at Indigo on what apparently was their last night being open.) I had never been here before but had heard a lot really good things about the atmosphere, drinks, and food. What I had heard was true, this place is happy hour nirvana! Happy hour on weekdays is 4pm to 8pm, a nice amount of time to sample from their huge menu of beers and all those great martinis. We all started with different martinis and ordered a couple of pizzas. It's amazing how thin they can get the crust on their pizzas. It's like a super thin cracker with just the right amount of toppings on it so you can taste everything. We ordered the French Kiss (brie, ham, pesto, tomato sauce, mozz, and basil) and the Deep Forest (prosciutto, mushroom, tomato sauce, and mozz) both were fantastic and went really well with the drinks. I don't remember which martinis we all had but I know I had one called something like "Maryanne or Ginger" which was good and one of the trappist beers which was good, too. While there, one of my friends said he remembers this place from the late 70s when it was called the Swing Club. Attended a going away party here and I was pleasantly surprised. From the outside....it doesn't look very fancy...of course....neither does anywhere else on Hotel St....when you really think about it! It has a nice area to sit, it's own bar, and just has a nice feel to the space. It really makes you want to relax. We ordered a bunch of drinks and were able to try a little of the food. We had the Kalua pizza which was very good. It is a very thin crust pizza but the sauce had enough tang, and the flavors of the toppings were very good. I would definitely order this again. We also ordered the fries. My buddy ordered a side of curry aioli and that really went well with the crunchy saltiness of the fries. Strolled in here this evening on a whim. Loved EVERYTHING!!!! Bartender made me a super yummy fruity martini for my first drink. My BF was happy about ALL of the beers available in bottles (very important to him LOL). Vibe was very chill and welcoming. I have been here a few times and when I have, it's been quite happening. This is not my 1st choice in bars, but there was a cigar/whiskey tasting event posted, so we went. The event. 1st thing 1st. This was not a cigar event I was expecting. I've been to HI Prince, O'Toole's, Row Bar. U know it's a cigar event. Here, we went to the patio area and although there were a few people smoking cigars, you couldn't tell it was an event. My man went to the bar and proceeded to get the cigars (which u pay for) while I found us a quaint 2seater couch. I tried one of the cigars and it was way too peppery although it said chocolate and espresso with a hint of pepper. Anyways, although I was comfortable with the seating arrangement, my partner was not. Too squishy and it say on a platform so your feet dangle. There was no whiskey tasting. Drinks. He ordered on tap, I a brown ale. I initially asked what brown ales there were and the waitress rattled off 2 then gave me the menu. Although there were no brown ales listed, I ordered one she mentioned. I was ok to drink from the bottle but my partner asked for a glass for me. She stated they don't have any chilled glasses. What bar does not have chilled glasses for beer I have no idea. But I was def not going to drink a cold beer in a warm glass. Ewww. Food. We then ordered the British fries. Again, eww. They were unflavored, not crispy, and came in a huge steamer basket but with only a handful of fries. Deceiving. We usually like the pizza, but having already eaten at home, we opted for fries as they would go good with beer. Wrong. Another couple joined us shortly (ok fam members) so we moved to a bigger couch. It was better, although could be uncomfortable if there were other people around as the couches all face each other in a square. I moved onto a cran/vodka which comprised mostly of cranberry. I had 2. No effect. Service. Now I thought our waitress came frequent enough. Actually too frequently for me and always when we were engrossed in conversations. My company felt she didn't come by enough. And was too slow. She even said goodbye to us without looking at us and cleaning other tables. Atmosphere. Now the ambience was nice. Outdoor seating, couches and twinkle lights. Although it was a sad cigar "event", it was ok to lounge in the patio area. When we left around 10:30pm, even the inside bar that used to get packed, was fairly empty. This was also a Thursday night. Perhaps a slow night. Needless to say, I was completely disappointed in the event, but enjoyed my company and the outdoors splendidly. read more

As I always say, Im not a bar person but since my boyfriend loves his beers I usually tag along. We came here with friends after the Honolulu Light parade to sit and socialize. No cover charge since we arrived before 8:00 p.m and plenty of seating. Decor was nice and I really like the paintings and red walls, we also had a DJ starting up some music. I had a headache that morning and thought a couple cocktails would help me relax, I was glad we were there for happy hour because they had some drinks for $3.75, since I don't drink very much I don't like to spend a lot of money on alcohol so the prices made me feel a bit better when ordering. My first drink was Miss Chinatown with a sugar rim and strawberry puree, was a tasty fruity drink, it was very sweet though so if you don't want something very sugary I would recommend the Blue Coconut which I ordered next, had a very nice coconut taste and was very refreshing. Unfortunately the drinks made my headache worse so I had to leave the bar early and go home and rest. I guess I need to accept that my body will never agree with alcohol. read more

Bar 35 is located in the heart of downtown near Chinatown on Hotel Street. A great after work or late night atmosphere to mingle with friends or make new ones in the process. Parking is purely on-street unless you have access to a downtown parking garage. (And FYI, only city buses are allowed on Hotel Street) An extensive martini list (yes, I have tried them all LOL) and a beer/craft beer (micro-brew) selection that rivals, if not exceeds most gastropubs. There is also a backyard area, which comes with its own bar area, as well. It's perfect to get away from the loud music and just chill. If you wanted to take a smoke break, this is the place! Located in the front of the bar is the dance floor and the stage where they had a bomb-ass DJ that played all the slammin' music ALL NIGHT! My thick hips were swayin' all night! But wait, Hun 'nay, let's not forget about those bartenders!! Let's just get something straight real quick! You NEED those strong ass drinks that those bartenders are shakin' and makin'! Bar 35 I work downtown- so at night with long lines and crowds of people flocking to Hotel St makes me glad that I don't have to stand in lines but I get to Escape from Honolulu. But I too have to get outside of myself sometimes- venture out of my own comfort zone to meet new people. One of the waitresses is Jamie. She is wonderful. Full of Aloha from the very beginning! I was super early for an event that a group booked event space with Bar35 that sent us printed tickets. I showed her the ticket knowing I was early- she suggested welcome to wait for the event that she has to find out from someone else what area the party will be at that she didn't know right then or I could come back. Very professional- ready to up sale her great bar while making me feel (by myself without an entourage) more than welcomed. She had a 10 second story about how she wants too to be able to see fireworks - that I should take photos for her to show her. I know she was being more than kind while having a great way to make sure that I came back to see her bar. It made that experience factor instead of the 'what do you want?' factor. More experience factor: Dancing! On some nights there is special DJs basically putting on their own shows. The dance floor opens up a little wider based on how many people are dancing because they can take away some of the table areas. One night they had Soulgasm. It was very clear who was with the DJ as they had his shirts on with matching logos. One of the friendliest dance groups I have ever seen either here or on the mainland. They were more than friendly- yes they took up a greater amount of the dance floor but interacted with other dancers with encouragement and aloha. It could have been a selfish party atmosphere but I was just super surprised at how inviting they were to everyone willing to join the dance floor and become part of their space. Knowing this- when I see another event posted by them I am super likely to go back for some great nonjudgmental dancing opportunities. Areas: The main bar includes Dance floor space, tables and a long bar. Indoor seating has a beaded wall divider with great atmosphere. Super cool use of space. Great for small parties. Patio has a small utility bar with great safe open air space. There are 2 hugely successful fans that blow what feels like air conditioning on below from overhead making it feel more than comfortable. HAPPY HOUR NOW TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY 4-9PM! The night I had happy hour, Three Olives a vodka mixer with your choice of pairing was $3.75. There were also beer specials of $3 + $4. Another night, I did their $25 deal special with a bottle of wine and a regular pizza. I will review this more later. Good but not Chicago Style great! Well worth the price though. Minus 2 star for last night's experience. I think I'm being generous given that 3 stars meant that overall, it was "A-ok"......but it wasn't "ok" at all. Before a couple weeks ago, I've never come here other than for First Friday, which doesn't shed the best light on this place. Being uber packed and hot/sweaty with a super busy bar and club bumpin' music might serve its purpose for First Friday, but that's really the only view I had of this place until just recently. This place has been here forever! And I have finally came for a visit. I used to work next door at Livestock Tavern for a couple of years too and I haven't step my foot inside here once until two weeks ago. Their bartender showed great hospitality and the ambiance was nice as well. I had a mule and some of their okonomiyaki fries and it's better then ward theater! Wow! This place looks a lot bigger inside than it does from the street. Past the black dude in front checking IDs with the braids, who looks a lot like UFC referee Herb Dean, we're in. The nicely dressed chicks sitting right at the front, at the corner of the bar (all looking at everyone as they walk in) are probably quickly scanning which dude has the fattest wallet. I mean, these chicks were fishin' hehe. We order from the metro Asian bartender who is actually pretty cool and I say f*ck sitting at the bar, let's drink our pints of Guinness and lounge at the leather sofas in back. I'm tired, other bands and our's just got done playing Kaleidoscope at 39 - it was our time to wind down! Even if at this point in the evening, I knew I would only get a couple of hours sleep before work, I valiantly drank away and enjoyed the rest of my outing. My first impression of this place is that it's pretty slick lookin'. A lot of space, dimly lit but a bit too Hotel Street yuppie-high maintenance for my taste. I make this judgment by looking at the patrons inside. And since we're on the topic of Hotel Street bars, I like the vibe at Manifest, 39 and Nextdoor a lot better. Though what's pretty cool is on the way to the bathroom (the door don't close all the way btw) there are these two VIP rooms with chains as curtains hanging at the doorway. And with the warm light illuminating, they look pretty sexy. Total "oof rooms" for the exhibitionist, if you catch my drift. Incredible selection of hard to get beers and good pizzas make this a great addition to Hawaii's pub scene but its location makes it less than desirable place to be at night. Gyromatic and Sweet Bangkok pizzas are great eats. Lamb with tzatziki sauce on a pizza! Yum. Its not to say this is the best pizza you'll ever have but the flavors just make it a fun way to enjoy their many, incredible beers (Eel River Organics!). The ambiance is OK. Its NOT the type of place to "mingle" and meet others. With its structured seating, its a pub and not a lounge. It caters to the 30 somethings crowd with its food and drinks but crosses over with promotions clearly aimed at the 20 something college crowd. That's Hawaii. Its all good! Oh yeah, its in chinatown so expect to be asked for loose change on the way to your car. Still though, worth a try. read more

We like the Patio. Happy Hour is great and the Pizza is amazing.

This is starting to be our regular hangout....The food is good...The chicken wings could be better...But for sure the drinks... Ambiance...And PIZZA are worth checking out. read more
