Wandered on down to this gem for the unofficial "after party" of the Yelptoberfest with some awesome yelpers and we had a jolly good time! The crowd here that night was small and chill. The DJ was rocking out some good old school tunes which made me want to get my jiggy on!! I held back though, didn't wanna get too nuts after my first yelp event. I sampled a piece of pizza that I think Mike S. ordered, LOVED IT! I've been wanting to come back to this place to try more of their pizzas, because they're a creative mixture of different flavors and I love the crispy thin crusts. Since we came on a wednesday night, THE night they have their beer tastings, I looked at their beer tasting menu from earlier and what did i find???? *a dark chocolate ROUGE stout! So we ordered it and it was magic! As a chocolate lover I tasted swirls of the dark chocolate and hints of bitterness. Now my beer palate is still learning but i do have to say this pricey beer was a definite WINNER!! *Other than spending more time with my new yelpy friends, sharing drinks and stories, my favorite part of Bar 35 was: SMURFS playing on the big screen! Definitely taking it back to the old school days right?? Thank you Bar 35 for great tunes, beer, shots, and great ambiance! *Going back again with my bartender cousin for some beer tasting & pizza, very very soon! read more

Bar 35 is still a great place to pau hana after work or reserve the indoor or outdoor area for a semi-private party with friends. They have a full bar, but beer lovers will be especially happy. Bar 35 has a great selection of bottled beers from around the world, beer tasting Wednesdays and featured beers of the month. For grindz, you want the pizza. Super thin crusts, loaded with interesting flavor combos, and during Happy Hour save 20% off when you order two. I don't know what's going on with the random things they put on the video screen, but they do make for interesting conversation and we always have a good time. read more

The inside area's atmosphere has a club vibe - the music, lighting, etc. The outside area is the place that I liked. It's a chill atmosphere and it felt nice drinking while feeling the breeze. I had two cocktails: Berry Asian & Cucumber Cooler The Berry Asian came with Lychee which was sweet and delicious. The Cucumber Cooler was refreshing and perfect for the hot season. We needed to order one food with our drinks so we had the Spicy Edamame which was a flavorful finger food. We didn't order anything else since we came here for just drinks after having dinner but would love to try their other menus next time. read more

Ambiance is loud and crazy. Fun place to be. Two different bars you can chill at... one inside with a dance floor and a long bar then one in the back with outdoor comfy couches. I tried the mozzarella basil pizza which was AMAZINg! It was a little on the smaller side (plus a thin crust)so I'd share with only 2 hungry people or 4 not so hungry people. I'd definitely come back and order that pizza! read more

Great for small corporate gatherings! My company organized a client pau hana on a Thursday, and the staff and management were terrific to work with - very gracious and accommodating to our requests. Pricing for their in-house catering was reasonable, and the food was great - they provided a great selection of finger foods such as flatbreads, lumpia, charcuterie, edamame, etc. Although the gathering was set for their outdoor patio space, they allowed to spend the first hour inside (they opened at 4 pm), which was welcome given the August heat. The patio was warm for some, fine for others. One last tip for event planners - might want to ask about plates as they indicated they don't regularly carry them, instead offering napkins for the finger foods. They were able to find some styrofoam plates for our party, though, so it all worked out. Our client was pleased with the venue and indicated he'd like to do another one here again! read more

We went on a bar-hopping spree a few weeks ago and this was stop #2 (I won't review stop #1 because it was at Indigo on what apparently was their last night being open.) I had never been here before but had heard a lot really good things about the atmosphere, drinks, and food. What I had heard was true, this place is happy hour nirvana! Happy hour on weekdays is 4pm to 8pm, a nice amount of time to sample from their huge menu of beers and all those great martinis. We all started with different martinis and ordered a couple of pizzas. It's amazing how thin they can get the crust on their pizzas. It's like a super thin cracker with just the right amount of toppings on it so you can taste everything. We ordered the French Kiss (brie, ham, pesto, tomato sauce, mozz, and basil) and the Deep Forest (prosciutto, mushroom, tomato sauce, and mozz) both were fantastic and went really well with the drinks. I don't remember which martinis we all had but I know I had one called something like "Maryanne or Ginger" which was good and one of the trappist beers which was good, too. While there, one of my friends said he remembers this place from the late 70s when it was called the Swing Club. He said it was packed with drunk military guys and there would always be huge fights there. Sounds like fun but I'm glad it's not like that now. read more

Attended a going away party here and I was pleasantly surprised. From the outside....it doesn't look very fancy...of course....neither does anywhere else on Hotel St....when you really think about it! As we walked in, it was surprising to find out how large the space was. There is a good amount of seating, lots of standing room, and a pretty decent size bar. The liquor selection was pretty good as well...I didn't try everything....and thank goodness because I would probably have trouble writing this review! There were also some private rooms towards the back which was nice, and if you walk even further back....an outdoor oasis! The back garden area is my favorite area of this bar. It has a nice area to sit, it's own bar, and just has a nice feel to the space. It really makes you want to relax. We ordered a bunch of drinks and were able to try a little of the food. We had the Kalua pizza which was very good. It is a very thin crust pizza but the sauce had enough tang, and the flavors of the toppings were very good. I would definitely order this again. We also ordered the fries. My buddy ordered a side of curry aioli and that really went well with the crunchy saltiness of the fries. I would definitely go back here....probably to try more pizzas and of course....drink! read more

Bar 35 was our final stop...bangin' beats, chill vibe, and we even got our own little private area! I got a drink that was lychee and raspberry flavored (I think) and it was pretty tasty...the beer selection also sounded tempting and so did the pizzas, but I guess we'll have to wait until the next time I come home...ALOHA!!! Strolled in here this evening on a whim. Loved EVERYTHING!!!! Bartender made me a super yummy fruity martini for my first drink. My BF was happy about ALL of the beers available in bottles (very important to him LOL). Vibe was very chill and welcoming. Food was delicious - we had the chicken nuggets with honey mustard and aioli. Wanted to try one of their pizzas but my BF wasn't hungry enough. We are so happy to have found our new hangout and will definitely be back! Bartender gets two thumbs up for his attentive service and excellent drink making skills. P.S. Showed up at the door and handed over my ID. Bouncer reviewed my CA state issued ID for several minutes, even calling over a supervisor from next door. Bouncer could not verify validity of my ID and refused entry. My ID is indeed valid and issued by the State of California. I am more than double the minimum drinking age and look my age. Not sure what else to say other than there would be zero reason to present a fake ID to get a drink when I am old enough to do so. Good luck to you, Bar 35. read more

It depends on what you're looking for. I think that it's a typical college bar. When I walked in, I heard fireworks by katy perry. they played j lo and turn down for what while I was there. I didn't try the drinks because I didn't stay long but my friend said they were good and strong. last but not least, it was clammy. some extra air would be a nice addition read more

My, has this place changed SO much since it first opened up. This was our go to spot for meetings when I worked for American Carpet One back in the 2000's LoL Still haven't been disappointed, yet. Fast forward, still this is personally one of go to spots to go too on a Friday. I love that they have my Chimay beer and I believe my white hitachino. Not many places carry them. I enjoy their variety in pizza, excellent happy hour prices, wide selection of foreign beers, bartenders are fvckin fast, and a cool ambience in DTHNL. read more

Bar 35 is located in the heart of downtown near Chinatown on Hotel Street. A great after work or late night atmosphere to mingle with friends or make new ones in the process. Parking is purely on-street unless you have access to a downtown parking garage. (And FYI, only city buses are allowed on Hotel Street) An extensive martini list (yes, I have tried them all LOL) and a beer/craft beer (micro-brew) selection that rivals, if not exceeds most gastropubs. The bartenders are very friendly and helpful in guiding your way down the cocktail menu. At first entry, the lounge appears to be a small, intimate lounge setting, however, wander down the hallway and work your way towards the back and there is an outdoor courtyard. Who would have thought there was a courtyard back there, complete with tables and landscaping? And yes, there is a bar back there too! A nice, intimate setting makes Bar 35 the place to be. read more

My favorite bar on the island. Large beer selection, great pizza and friendly staff. The layout is unique with 3 different areas to hang out in if you want to change the vibe without actually going to another bar. From the entrance you'll see the first area, a typical setup with barstools and hightops. Past the dance floor/music stage there's a lounge that is sometimes reserved for VIP. Lastly, there's an outdoor area. If you follow them on social media, you can keep track of all the weekly specials and events they have going on. read more

Went here for a fun night out and the bouncer insisted my friend's ID was fake and continued to verbally cuss us out. He got aggressive and got in our faces when we insisted the IDs were real. He proceeded to threaten us and told a young woman to "shut the f*** up". When we crossed the street to go to the other bar, he continued to harass us and went up to another bouncer and told him not to let us in. Honestly one of the worst experiences I've had at a bar, especially on vacation - we have never been treated like this! DO NOT GO HERE read more

Accidentally left my credit card at the bar when I paid the bill. The bartender took it and tried to use it a bunch of times the next day

I have been here a few times and when I have, it's been quite happening. This is not my 1st choice in bars, but there was a cigar/whiskey tasting event posted, so we went. The event. 1st thing 1st. This was not a cigar event I was expecting. I've been to HI Prince, O'Toole's, Row Bar. U know it's a cigar event. Here, we went to the patio area and although there were a few people smoking cigars, you couldn't tell it was an event. My man went to the bar and proceeded to get the cigars (which u pay for) while I found us a quaint 2seater couch. I tried one of the cigars and it was way too peppery although it said chocolate and espresso with a hint of pepper. Anyways, although I was comfortable with the seating arrangement, my partner was not. Too squishy and it say on a platform so your feet dangle. There was no whiskey tasting. Drinks. He ordered on tap, I a brown ale. I initially asked what brown ales there were and the waitress rattled off 2 then gave me the menu. Although there were no brown ales listed, I ordered one she mentioned. I was ok to drink from the bottle but my partner asked for a glass for me. She stated they don't have any chilled glasses. What bar does not have chilled glasses for beer I have no idea. But I was def not going to drink a cold beer in a warm glass. Ewww. Food. We then ordered the British fries. Again, eww. They were unflavored, not crispy, and came in a huge steamer basket but with only a handful of fries. Deceiving. We usually like the pizza, but having already eaten at home, we opted for fries as they would go good with beer. Wrong. Another couple joined us shortly (ok fam members) so we moved to a bigger couch. It was better, although could be uncomfortable if there were other people around as the couches all face each other in a square. I moved onto a cran/vodka which comprised mostly of cranberry. I had 2. No effect. Service. Now I thought our waitress came frequent enough. Actually too frequently for me and always when we were engrossed in conversations. My company felt she didn't come by enough. And was too slow. She even said goodbye to us without looking at us and cleaning other tables. Atmosphere. Now the ambience was nice. Outdoor seating, couches and twinkle lights. Although it was a sad cigar "event", it was ok to lounge in the patio area. When we left around 10:30pm, even the inside bar that used to get packed, was fairly empty. This was also a Thursday night. Perhaps a slow night. Needless to say, I was completely disappointed in the event, but enjoyed my company and the outdoors splendidly. read more

As I always say, Im not a bar person but since my boyfriend loves his beers I usually tag along. We came here with friends after the Honolulu Light parade to sit and socialize. No cover charge since we arrived before 8:00 p.m and plenty of seating. Decor was nice and I really like the paintings and red walls, we also had a DJ starting up some music. I had a headache that morning and thought a couple cocktails would help me relax, I was glad we were there for happy hour because they had some drinks for $3.75, since I don't drink very much I don't like to spend a lot of money on alcohol so the prices made me feel a bit better when ordering. My first drink was Miss Chinatown with a sugar rim and strawberry puree, was a tasty fruity drink, it was very sweet though so if you don't want something very sugary I would recommend the Blue Coconut which I ordered next, had a very nice coconut taste and was very refreshing. Unfortunately the drinks made my headache worse so I had to leave the bar early and go home and rest. I guess I need to accept that my body will never agree with alcohol. read more

REVIEWER # 411 Bar 35 should seriously be considered the BEST nightlife in Chinatown! This place is CRACKIN' on the weekends. Don't believe me? Go ahead and see for yourself! Wanna have a good time on the weekends? No, I mean have a REALLY good time? Well, you betta take ya' tail feather to Bar 35! Honey, this place is CRACKIN'! Whoo! Let me preface this review by thanking my Yelp boo, Peter C.! Who told me about Bar 35 on my short visit to Hawaii. I came on a First Friday and was hanging out at the bar across the street (The Manifest). Peter C. told me to meet him at Bar 35, but that long line at 10 PM threw me off! Luckily, he had connections and we walked right in the g-thang without waiting in line (Thanks, Boo!). Inside was NOT what I expected. They have many different areas where you can be; not only the dance floor. In the back, they have this sexy "red light district" lounge area (near the red door bathroom). It's a great place to hang out with friends and get away from the chaos. I know I found myself there a couple times throughout the night! There is also a backyard area, which comes with its own bar area, as well. It's perfect to get away from the loud music and just chill. If you wanted to take a smoke break, this is the place! Located in the front of the bar is the dance floor and the stage where they had a bomb-ass DJ that played all the slammin' music ALL NIGHT! My thick hips were swayin' all night! But wait, Hun 'nay, let's not forget about those bartenders!! Let's just get something straight real quick! You NEED those strong ass drinks that those bartenders are shakin' and makin'! Damn, they make a drink taste so dang good, it should be a sin. It will have you feeling' yoself all night; Umm hmm- trust me, I was one of those people. By the end of the night, everyone looked like eye-candy to me, they were THAT strong. The bartenders were very pleasant; don't forget to tip 'em! This place seems to be very popular at night, especially after 10 PM. The lines after 10 PM are outrageous. Make sure you get here early if you want to avoid the lines. In my opinion, this has to be the most amazing bar/club that I've experienced in Hawaii! Definitely, your place to be if you want to have an amazing time, dance, and hang out with some friends! I look forward to coming back here the next time I am in Hawaii! Definitely my favorite highlight of my vacation! read more

Bar 35 is one of my favorite China Town night spots. Great bar tenders, an VERY GOOD beer selection (bottles, not on tap), really good vibe, indoor and outdoor seating, and did I mention good bartenders? Bar 35 I work downtown- so at night with long lines and crowds of people flocking to Hotel St makes me glad that I don't have to stand in lines but I get to Escape from Honolulu. But I too have to get outside of myself sometimes- venture out of my own comfort zone to meet new people. One of the waitresses is Jamie. She is wonderful. Full of Aloha from the very beginning! I was super early for an event that a group booked event space with Bar35 that sent us printed tickets. I showed her the ticket knowing I was early- she suggested welcome to wait for the event that she has to find out from someone else what area the party will be at that she didn't know right then or I could come back. Very professional- ready to up sale her great bar while making me feel (by myself without an entourage) more than welcomed. She had a 10 second story about how she wants too to be able to see fireworks - that I should take photos for her to show her. I know she was being more than kind while having a great way to make sure that I came back to see her bar. It made that experience factor instead of the 'what do you want?' factor. More experience factor: Dancing! On some nights there is special DJs basically putting on their own shows. The dance floor opens up a little wider based on how many people are dancing because they can take away some of the table areas. One night they had Soulgasm. It was very clear who was with the DJ as they had his shirts on with matching logos. One of the friendliest dance groups I have ever seen either here or on the mainland. They were more than friendly- yes they took up a greater amount of the dance floor but interacted with other dancers with encouragement and aloha. It could have been a selfish party atmosphere but I was just super surprised at how inviting they were to everyone willing to join the dance floor and become part of their space. Knowing this- when I see another event posted by them I am super likely to go back for some great nonjudgmental dancing opportunities. Areas: The main bar includes Dance floor space, tables and a long bar. Indoor seating has a beaded wall divider with great atmosphere. Super cool use of space. Great for small parties. Patio has a small utility bar with great safe open air space. There are 2 hugely successful fans that blow what feels like air conditioning on below from overhead making it feel more than comfortable. HAPPY HOUR NOW TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY 4-9PM! The night I had happy hour, Three Olives a vodka mixer with your choice of pairing was $3.75. There were also beer specials of $3 + $4. Another night, I did their $25 deal special with a bottle of wine and a regular pizza. I will review this more later. Good but not Chicago Style great! Well worth the price though. Cover: After a certain time- there is a cover girl outside with the bouncers, I didn't catch how much it is usually but some of the Friday Nights it is $10 per person. Steep for just a small side bar to me, but there are still lines outside. Mayor Mufi did his magic spell that has still lasted this long that makes Hotel St jumping at night with bar goers on Fridays -especially First Fridays. Bathrooms: Yes- they have them. NO- they are small. Men- learn how to wait outside in the hall until it is your turn. Do not stand behind me right there- it is too small. Learn how to hold it or wait patiently- don't stand too close to me- that bar is one block up the street. Women- there is a large mirror just outside your bathroom for you to do things like your makeup. There is even a handicap bathroom too. Will I come back? Let's see?????? Friendly waitresses, good music to dance too with a friendly crowd and some different happy hour options....... Yeap! I'm a fan now. read more

As TLC says it's "Crazy Sexy Cool". I've been here a dozen times this year and it never disappoints. From the drinks to the awesome pizza, I'm always satisfied with the service and the company. Crazy because of the crowd it draws. Sexy because of the bartenders (Gretchen girl I've got your back! Eddie you got a heavy pour!) and cool because it's the place to be seen. They have tons of "Skyy" vodka specials. When it comes to the pizza, hands down, Sweet Bangkok $12 is where you'll find chinese sausage and sweet chili sauce and other goodies on a thin crust with other complimentary toppings. This brings me down to my knees because it's so darn good. Close second: French Kiss (brie, pesto and ham). Happy hour? Yes, only discount on the martinits. But who cares when the pizzas are so delicious. 150 beers available-there's gotta be one to satisfy your needs. Yeah, yeah, the parking sucks because it's in downtown, let alone on Hotel Street but it's so worth the pizza. Minus 2 star for last night's experience. I think I'm being generous given that 3 stars meant that overall, it was "A-ok"......but it wasn't "ok" at all. Music was horribly loud inside at the main bar, way more than usual. Luckily my friend wanted to sit outdoors, but the service outside was slow and the drinks from the outside bar were weak. I miss Gretchen. She was my favorite bartender at Bar35: she's badass at slinging drinks and she doesn't skimp on the alcohol either. The last few times that I've been there: no Gretchen. And whenever we asked about her and her work hours, all of the waitresses would give us the same "I don't know, it's my first night" or "I have no idea, I just started working here not too long ago" responses. I had wanted a "Filthy Martini" with extra olives, in a bucket (extra olive juice). Any bartender would check/ask if you want it with Gin or Vodka. I always double-check whenever any of my customers order a dirty martini. I ended up getting a regular Gin Martini that had too much Vermouth. Nothing 'Filthy' about it, there wasn't a drop of olive juice to even deem it 'dirty'. At least I got the extra olives, yay...... http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/-kgl6xeqKlmqLXhv03J5qQ?select=h34nLKBq1FXYM1xiMKMejw My vodka soda with lime also was a failure. Drink arrived with a lemon wedge instead AND I couldn't taste any alcohol. I pretty much paid $6 for carbonated water. I dared my friend to order their "Chicken Nuggets." Yes, they now serve these frozen nugs at Bar35: 10 for $7.50. Just ten pieces of chicken on a platter, it doesn't even come with any dipping sauce, boo!! If you're gonna charge that much, at least throw in some ketchup packets or something! Phillip mentioned that it tasted like Tyson's nuggets. If you want better chicken nuggets, go to McDonalds. At least you'll get 20 pieces for $5.99 AND they'll give you dipping sauces! http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/-kgl6xeqKlmqLXhv03J5qQ?select=pAHuND_0-Wjb3ev7Ai2bMQ read more

Before a couple weeks ago, I've never come here other than for First Friday, which doesn't shed the best light on this place. Being uber packed and hot/sweaty with a super busy bar and club bumpin' music might serve its purpose for First Friday, but that's really the only view I had of this place until just recently. Contrary to its slightly trashy First Friday appearance, Bar 35 is actually a pretty chill yet classy Downtown bar with an awesome Happy Hour drink menu! During Happy Hour, beers are $3 and martini cocktails are $3.75. There are soooo many beers at this place I couldn't even get through the whole menu. I didn't try any beers because the cocktail menu was so intriguing! Everything on the menu had some funky name (I had the Berry Asian, Miso Horny, and Domo Arigato; my friends and I definitely had a kick when ordering these drinks!) with such unique mixes of vodkas and juices! Aside from the Domo Arigato which had a very strong alcohol taste, all the martinis our party tried were very delicious and "effective"! Such a great deal!!! Wow! This place looks a lot bigger inside than it does from the street. Past the black dude in front checking IDs with the braids, who looks a lot like UFC referee Herb Dean, we're in. The nicely dressed chicks sitting right at the front, at the corner of the bar (all looking at everyone as they walk in) are probably quickly scanning which dude has the fattest wallet. I mean, these chicks were fishin' hehe. We order from the metro Asian bartender who is actually pretty cool and I say f*ck sitting at the bar, let's drink our pints of Guinness and lounge at the leather sofas in back. I'm tired, other bands and our's just got done playing Kaleidoscope at 39 - it was our time to wind down! Even if at this point in the evening, I knew I would only get a couple of hours sleep before work, I valiantly drank away and enjoyed the rest of my outing. My first impression of this place is that it's pretty slick lookin'. A lot of space, dimly lit but a bit too Hotel Street yuppie-high maintenance for my taste. I make this judgment by looking at the patrons inside. And since we're on the topic of Hotel Street bars, I like the vibe at Manifest, 39 and Nextdoor a lot better. Though what's pretty cool is on the way to the bathroom (the door don't close all the way btw) there are these two VIP rooms with chains as curtains hanging at the doorway. And with the warm light illuminating, they look pretty sexy. Total "oof rooms" for the exhibitionist, if you catch my drift. Incredible selection of hard to get beers and good pizzas make this a great addition to Hawaii's pub scene but its location makes it less than desirable place to be at night. Gyromatic and Sweet Bangkok pizzas are great eats. Lamb with tzatziki sauce on a pizza! Yum. Its not to say this is the best pizza you'll ever have but the flavors just make it a fun way to enjoy their many, incredible beers (Eel River Organics!). The ambiance is OK. Its NOT the type of place to "mingle" and meet others. With its structured seating, its a pub and not a lounge. It caters to the 30 somethings crowd with its food and drinks but crosses over with promotions clearly aimed at the 20 something college crowd. That's Hawaii. Its all good! Oh yeah, its in chinatown so expect to be asked for loose change on the way to your car. Still though, worth a try. read more

Bar 35 is a great spot for happy hour (until 10). My friends and I got there at 6:30 and we were able to find a table fairly quickly. As soon as we sat down, our waitress politely greeted us and told us that happy hour ends at 10 pm--woohooo!! She pointed to their drink menu and notes which drinks were on special during HH. We ended up ordering the Berry Asian and Blue Coco drink--both super tasty and refreshing. We also ordered the fries, which was served piping hot and crispy! And of course, we had to get the French Kiss pizza, which has pesto sauce and Brie, which I found so delicious! There was also a band playing, which I always enjoy. read more

This place has the longest and best happy hour!! From 4pm (when they open) to 9pm. You can get drinks as low at $3.50. The bartender was reay friendly and conversational. It was Wednesday so not a busy night at all. It was pretty empty but if been there a few times before when it was pretty packed. Also been there for a private party. The place is pretty spacious, plenty of seating. I like the set-up too because it allows for socializing when there's a lot of people there. read more
