Very cool find. We had dinner and drinks at this South African wine bar. Love all the featured South African wines as well as small bites to eat. Very cool taxidermy decor throughout and excellent service at the bar. I started with a glass of brut rose and we got the biltong, steak flatbread and chicken tacos. Stumbled upon this place the day after Christmas. It's located inside of the Marriott hotel. There is African themed art and music inside of the lounge. We grabbed some cocktails which were great and a roasted vegetable hummus that was really good! I would definitely stop by this place again. read more

Love the atmosphere and the drinks. Baobab is a little out of the way bar within the larger Marriott Factory property. All cocktails are craft created. Good selection of Biltong and other small bites. It's a little pricey ($12-15 per cocktail/$12-22 food) but all the Marriott bars/restaurants are pricey. My husband and I spent several days in Savannah at the J.W.Marriot and repeatedly visited BaoBab Lounge. First, its decor is unique and exciting with all manner of animals, tribal artifacts and the like from the African continent. I wish I had gotten the name of the woman with the shortest hair who served my husband his smoked old fashion in the cloche. She was of shorter stature, but she had such amazing energy and never stopped smiling her beautiful smile. She enjoyed our excitement as she delivered my husband's drink and happily provided just the right of fan-fare as she opened the door to the smoking chamber and presented his drink. It was so much fun, and whoever that manager is, your energy and attitude were what made our enjoyment at BaiBab complete. You are an asset to the planet! read more

Loved this place in the JW Marriott. We went there 2 nights. Everything was outstanding, the decor, cocktails, food, and service. There was nothing lacking. The Baobab daiquiri and Nandi's punch were both flavorful with just the right amount of alcohol. One night we tried the chicken tacos. They were fantastic, we were a little hesitant about ordering them by the description, but so glad we did. You can spend an hour just taking in the African decor and artifacts. Staff was super friendly but I can not give you more that 2 stars if you pre mix your cocktails... it's a matter of principle.

Food was terrible. It's basically beef jerky options, a cheese board and other non-chef needed plates. Drinks are like pulling teeth if you don't order off the limited menu. Stick with wine. But god forbid you try to have a good time! No one is allowed to have a buzz. They'll kick you out. Even if you're staying in the same hotel several floors up. Manager on the high horse will ask you to leave. read more

The only reason Baobab is getting two stars is for the amazing ambience and interior decor. This place truly feels as if you are in an African Safari. However, the service is awful. We seated ourselves at the only seats we could find without dirty plates and glasses that weren't cleaned up and were quickly given menus (still didn't clear the dirty dishes around us) then waited nearly 30 mins just to order a drink. Once we ordered we sat and waited, and waited for another 30 minutes. Within this time, plenty of other customers came in and sat at the bar and were being prioritized as we saw about 10 drinks go out with no mention of ours. Eventually, we had to leave, wasn't worth it. Being in a JW Marriott I would definitely expect more. read more

First, it's located inside the hotel.. it's a lovely Afrocentric ambiance, plenty of seating on a Monday evening. Drinks are priced moderate to high $12-$18 small bites menu is limited. DISPARATE TREATMENT I would have given less stars but I gave 2 just to acknowledge our server. SHE was excellent. I waited too long to post my review so now her name escapes me. Description-wise, she is a white female. The food was decent. I'm a vegetarian so my assessment of the food might not be totally fair or all-encompassing so I will leave that there. My real disappointment was with the host. Not that it should matter, but just as information, we were celebrating our 25th anniversary and were guests at the Plant River District, the hotel in which Baobob is located. Baobob has 2 entrances, one from the hotel lobby, and one from the street. The host was posted up at the lobby entrance. We entered from the street. Either the host didn't see us come in or did, and decided not to acknowledge us. My husband went to the host to politely let him know we were here and where we were sitting. I watched the interchange from where I was sitting. The host informed my husband that he would let a server know we were there. That, alone, would have been "OK" HOWEVER, when another couple (who didn't look like us) came in from the street entrance and did the same thing (upon my suggestion, "You have to let the host know you're here"), the host proceeded to come to where they were sitting, places coasters down for their future drink order, and spent time explaining their process, with the QR code that is displayed on a little stand on the table. WE had to figure that out for ourselves. I'm just saying, let your process be your process, no matter WHO it is! Just for the record, I had a very nice conversation with the other couple to share with them what had just happened and to let them know that those are the types of behaviors that continue to divide. The beautiful African art that decorates Baobab Lounge attracted us to come in, but it was the incredibly thoughtful service that we received from Shreyas that kept us all here for hours!
