I ordered the spicy chicken bowl and it was excellent. There was no line, service was great, and I was able to walk over to Rock Sqeeze to get a beer to pair with it. Typically airport food is overpriced and underwhelming but this was actually pretty good. Based on the other reviews either I ordered the right thing on the right day or they have made some adjustments to the restaurant. I would definitely come back again if I find myself out Terminal 1 of Pearson Airport. read more

One of the cheaper options here. Suspiciously, despite a reasonably wide & cheap menu being advertised, I was told only the more expensive hot table was available. Coconut curry chicken with Pad Thai was $12.75. The chicken was so so - somewhat spicy with sweetness from the coconut. The Pad Thai didn't seem very good - the sauce, vegetables and toppings were not Pad Thai-sh at all and the vegetables looked sad. It being doused by the coconut sauce seemed for the best. Wow - where to start? I love Banh Mi, and generally you get a crunchy baguette type roll with meat or tofu and veggies and cilantro. This was nothing like that. You pay $11 and get a premade soggy roll in aluminum wrap that has been sitting there for hours. I took one bite and threw it into the trash and spit out the bite. The service was also unfriendly. I feel like someone just stole $11 dollars from me. Disgusting crap. At least I won't get sick as I spit it out. read more

The food options were different than what was on the overhead menu. Very misleading. Considering they're called banh shop I expected to be able to get banh mi however they did not have any available. Only ate here because the line was shorter than the nearby places but ended up realizing it was a huge mistake since the service took FOREVER! How is that there is one person taking both orders AND making the food? Ridiculous. Also found the staff to rude. The cashier called out my number after making my sandwich and when I told her that it was mine, she seemed to doubt me and kept calling out the number. I ended up showing her the receipt which did in fact prove that that was my order and she finally gave me it. I know how to count thank you very much, so I didn't appreciate the attitude. I got a steak banh mi which was pretty mediocre. Definitely filling, but the meat was dry and lacked in flavor. Combination of lackluster meal, long waiting time, and rude service makes for a very disappointed customer. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else! read more

Toronto has a reputation for great food, but it apparently doesn't carry over to the airport. I had the worst bahn mi I've ever tasted here, and in the domestic terminal I managed to also find the worst sushi I've ever had. Bahn mi should have fresh baked bread coated with pate and then topped with julienned vegetables, cilantro, jalepenos, and a protein. The bahn mi here was pre-made, so that the bread managed to be soggy on the inside and stale on the outside. There was no pate of any other spread. The daikon and carrots were flat and tasteless, and there was no cilantro or jalepeno either. The tofu was raw and plain, yet managed to be the best part of the sandwich by virtue of not being actively bad. read more

Was waiting for a flight and this was one of the restaurants near our gate. You pay a base price for you noodle/rice and then pay an additional cost for your protein. I ordered chicken pad thai and it came to around $16....which I wouldn't mind paying if the food was great, which unfortunately, it wasn't. So happy that there is finally a reasonably priced restaurant in the T1 international departures level that doesn't just sell sandwiches. I would've loved to try one of their bowls but I wasn't too hungry, so I just grabbed a fresh shrimp roll for the flight. Had breakfast here since it looked like a warm one. Got the breakfast street bowl, which was already prepacked, so service was instant. The bowl was average. The "meatballs" were very sweet and salty, so good thing there was plain white rice to even things out. read more

Rude attendant named Michelle. I had an airport credit from a delayed flight and wanted to use the rest of the credit on a water. There were larger waters up front which I picked up. Before I checked out, I asked for a smaller water so that I didn't have to pay additional. She said there were none. When she stepped aside to prepare my sandwich, I saw a cooler full of smaller waters. When I pointed them out to her she said there was nothing she could do. She did not offer to refund the large water and re-ring for the smaller water. Just a terrible person. The sandwich was not terrible but disappointing. I really hope that the manager of Bahn Shop reads this. It is a shame that a place like this gets to actually is allowed to operate at the Toronto terminal 3 airport. Not only is their food below substandard, but their customer service on the evening on my departure says it all (I won't mention the date as i do not want to throw an employee under the bus, but it was recently in August). My 1st issues was the fact that the menu was not 100% available, so it begs the simple question: Why not? When I asked, there was no good explanation. Hey Bahn Shop, you have had plenty of time to gear up for more travellers in the past few months and the summer isn't have way over. The customer service gets a rating of F for failure. The quasi Pho soup that I ordered also gets 2 letters.... DTG (doesn´t taste good) It had some under-boiled rice vermicelli and some pieces of square chicken bits that come pre.fab and pre-packed... I also ordered a fried spring roll which was a mistake. It was underwhelming and basically inedible and there wasn't really any plain rice, so I was left with the choice to order Fried rice either coconut chicken or a sweet and sour sauteed chicken dish for my partner... amazing options!!!! ....it was also not good. When I asked the lady for 2 pairs of chop sticks, she said "sorry we only have 1 pair left and we don't have any more". Then I asked her...do have more in the back? She then replied, "sorry we're out and it is the end of the day so will not be restocking" and then she walked away. Wow!!!! I didn't realize that 19:00 or 7 pm is the end of the day for a restaurant that is granted the right to have a business that is supposed to service travelling passengers who are willing to pay. I paid approximately $25.00 for a spring roll, chicken and fried rice dish and a container of Faux Pho chicken soup with noodles. Absolutely garbage!!! Avoid this place and do not eat here. Hopefully there are enough people that complain, so that they change their poor food and poor service or fade away. read more

The international wing (quarantine?) area of YYZ doesn't have a ton of choices and is way overcrowded, so all of the places (including this godforsaken place) have a huge line of people due to the captive audience situation. And no, there wasn't a pre-order disclaimer read to us appologizing for a busy day and ingredients shortages.. no, it was just a roll call down the line of shit I might order followed by "we don't have that". I'll take an order of spring rolls....we don't have spring rolls, and and a salad...we can't do that salad, and a tofu banh mi...we can't do any of the sandwiches. I'm not joking. This place is called banh kitchen and they cannot make one single version of the 6 BANH MI sandwiches of their namesake. JFC. Just close already. So, long story short, we got to Bun chay (vegetarian noodle salad) without any sauce. Should be an easy request. It's literally rice vermacelli, and some vegetables and cilantro and basil. Well, they were the shittiest bun chay I've ever had. Nothing was remotely fresh and everything was oddly wet and there was like 1/4" of tap water on the bottom of the bowl. Also, I asked for a packet or dish of soy sauce and they could not produce any soy sauce despite it being a Fucking Asian restaurant and me visually seeing a 10 gallon vat of soy sauce in the back. I ended up walking down 10 feet and getting some soy sauce from the Chinese restaurant I wasn't patronizing and they were nicer than the people at this place. The best part was that this was about 4pm Canadian, and at 6pm for "dinner rush" there were even more people waiting in line than had been there earlier. I wonder what they were waiting to order? Floor scraps? There couldn't have been anything left.. Seriously, reading the other reviews, I don't know how this place is still in business. Again, I know this is an airport, and not all airports have upped their food game to the level of some (I'm from PDX, I know ours is above standard), but COME ON. This place is terrible! This place was so bad that I went and re-downloaded yelp on my phone to write this review. The Banh mi was the worst I had ever tasted. Additionally, the cashier seemed unfamiliar with the menu, confusing the regular steak banh mi for the steak and eggs. I couldn't even finish this disgusting insult of a sandwich. Banh Shop is located next to the E70s for Air Canada. It seems to cater a fusion of Westernized Vietnamese sandwiches and bowls.  It was the morning of my 8:30 am flight, so I wasn't finnicky about my choices and opted for the steak and egg sandwich with a cup of water and coffee on the side.  While taking my order, the woman who served me seemed to be having a small argument with her co-worker. She tried to ignore the coworker to finish serving me, which was the right thing to do, but the coworker kept bickering about something, so my server regrettably had to reply to her in-between the conversation with me.  As for my order, the water came at slightly above room temperature and the coffee was insanely bitter, as if they had brewed it for double the amount of time or with double the amount of coffee grinds.  The sandwich was also a dreary mess.  It came out soaking in juices from the steak and egg, though the baguette helped to somewhat accomodate this. Flavour-wise, I found the sauce to be too sweet for a steak and egg combo and the ingredients were not melding well with one another. With the limited choices at the airport, I will still not be returning. read more

I hate leaving bad reviews but this place needs new management. The wait was forever the food was terrible. The only good thing was the sushi, but I say good only because my starving kids finished it. The rice tasted old and it was too cold. The spice coconut spot was basically a rice Plate with tomatoes, pineapple and I chose tofu. It was too sweet. The drunken noodle soup was just awful. No flavor. Noodles weren't fully cooked. I was going to order the tom kah soup. I asked the guy serving for a description, as there are no indications (in pictures or words) on their sign. He didn't know what it was like, but he also didn't know if it was available, so he disappeared into the back to check. Turns out it wasn't available, so I ordered the Vietnamese style chicken soup in the half portion size (listed clearly as an item on their sign - see photo). That soup was available but this time the guy didn't know if I could get a half portion. I also asked him about the iced green mango tea, of which he also claimed no knowledge but also thought might be unavailable, so he said he'd check about that too. So back he went, and when he returned he said I would have to get a full portion of the soup, which cost $7 (the half was listed for $4.50); he didn't mention the tea. I said I didn't want a full portion of the soup. The manager happened to be milling about and got angry with me for wanting a half portion, like there had to be something wrong with me for asking. I took the $7 soup, which was about half a litre of broth with three thin strips of chicken with a centimetre or so of vermicelli and a few onions. It wasn't awful, but it didn't make up for the incompetence and rudeness of the staff. And the value for money is poor even for YYZ. Might have been better off if I hadn't ordered the soup, but I'm not going to find out. If you pass by this shop, please give them the finger for me. And then I advise you to keep walking. read more
