Heads up the coffee is a powder mix and not from the filter, I know cause I have the same at home for days when I don't feel like making it myself. Overly sweet, and clearly catered to a non white population. The "grilled pork" was good but I wouldn't really call it grilled pork. It tasted like stir fried lemon grass pork, like something you would make at home. I may be the only one giving this a less than stellar review. First of all, this is not an easy restaurant to find. It's in an industrial area in Canyon Park, which means it is probably mostly frequented by local employees. But I keep hearing about the bahn mi dip so decided to find the place. I have to assume that the dip for the bahn mi dip sandwich is the same broth used for the pho. I love pho. During the winter months, I'll have it at least once a week. This broth was good, not great. The sandwich is like the fillings of a pho soup in a roll and then you dip it in pho broth like a classic french dip. Interesting concept. It was good, not great. I guess I expected to be wow'd, and really wasn't. Don't get me wrong, I will probably be back to try the pho, I just expected to be blown away. The restaurant was clean and the staff attentive. This place is in the midst of offices. Driving by through it's tough to find it. But it's the only option in walkable distance for the office employees around there. Very good customer service. F O O D //Pork Banh Mi// ($5.00) comes with homemade french baguette, spread, pickled veggies, cucumber, cilantro, japapenos, and pork. The baguette was nicely baked with crispy outside and soft inside. The outside wasn't so hard that it cuts the insides of your mouth. Besides the amazing bread the other ingredients were simple and plain. I was hoping that the pork would shine through, but it was little lackluster. //Pho// ($8.50) comes with eye round steak, well-done brisket and flank. I was a little dissappointed by the amount/ quality of meat received. It was too little (for the price) and it was tough and chewy by the time it arrived to my table. After reading the reviews, we decided to give this spot a try while driving through on a rainy day. Determine three or four stars was hard and ideally it would be 3.5. First the positives - the vermicelli with grilled chicken was fantastic. The veg very fresh, the meat grilled well, and the fish sauce had full flavor. The service and hospitality were also excellent. Now for the not so great - the beef pho was bland with no strong flavor. I look for the complex anise to come through but it just wasn't there. The meat was nice. We also had spring rolls which were very fresh. The peanut dipping sauce was just okay, not a strong flavor of peanut or spice. About the space - in a business park with improved signage so not a problem anymore. Inside could use a good scrubbing and updating. The tables all seemed to have a greasy/sticky film on them. I had a great meal here yesterday! My husband and I shared the egg rolls to start and both had the Bahn Mi Dip as we had been wanting to try it for quite some time. It was delicious! I ordered a small pho broth, a pork banh mi and a couple of spring rolls. I figure they are staples that are a great measure of just how good a place like this would be. Starting with the pho broth, it did not come with any thai basil nor anything but the broth, so I was unable to season it the way I would with onions, cilantro, lime, sriracha and hoisin like I normally do. It was good, complex, with a richness and depth of flavor that was pleasant. The fried spring rolls were grabbed from a case on the counter and while they were well stuffed, they would have tasted better fresh from the fryer. The pork banh mi was more satisfying; filled with pork and fresh and pickled veggies, cilantro and wrapped in a fresh, still crunchy roll. 3.5 stars for food. Clean place and the service is good. When the food arrived, we noticed that there was no way it was actually that much. We measured it out, and received less than 12oz of broth. Again, really not that big of an issue, if the restaurant didn't offer 3 sizes, with OZ specific measurements for how much you're getting. Besides that, the actually sandwich itself was pretty good. The customer service was great! The prices are fantastic... we went at 6 and the bread was sold out. So we tried the pho... was kind of disappointed and should have read all the reviews because it's cute little spot off the main road - great to escape traffic during rush hour. Like the others said, the pho broth was not piping hot, the meat was kind of tough so it must have been precooked. I accidentally tipped 30%... and they literally did nothing but bring out our food. They don't refill drinks because they only sell canned and bottled soda, and water is self serve. Our spring rolls weren't even cut in half. Hoping these reviews are looked at. Good stuff! Very nice restaurant, very friendly owner! Glad they are open on Saturdays now (could never try them before) my takeaway was good, fresh bread, nice grilled pork and chicken sandwich. This place has really good pho and really good Bahn mis. You can tell they use high quality ingredients. I met the owner and he was really positive and provided really good customer service. The only constructive feedback I would provide is that the smell in the main area isn't very pleasant (although not terrible), so maybe some scented oils or something would help, secondly having the outdoor chairs locked down with chains twisted around them is tacky looking and annoying to sit in. Maybe just put them inside at night! That being said, I highly recommend this place because their food and customer service is very good! I will be coming back! read more
