If you want standard Vietnamese sandwich and a buy 2, get 1 option, this place is where to go. No frill but get ready for some loud Vietnamese lady screaming at each other. This spot has been around for awhile and it's not that big at all. I think it used to be a Taco Bell or something before it became Banh mi spot. This is a no frills place to get banh mi or quick takeout. They always have the buy 2 ($12) get 1 free banh mi deal. My favorite is the BBQ pork. They also have rice combos for $8.50 which include 4 items. Their crab & tomato vermicelli soup (bun rieu) is pretty decent. If you order it to go (cold) it's $7 but if you eat there (hot), it's $9. This is a local's spot! People come to buy in bulk and convenience. Buy two get one free banh mi. It's the cheapest I've found in the area. It's not fancy but it's not meant to be. They have plenty of other quick grab dishes like summer rolls or prepackaged rice dishes and lots of che. Again, good and cheap but maybe not the fanciest of fixins or even service. Went in Monday afternoon, ordered Bmi` xiu' Mai. no sauce (kho^ng bo'). Today I saw my siter, she said the bread had sauce and even so much. That day, I waited for almost 20 minutes, listened to all workers complaining and chit chat among themselves, I almost figured out what was happened in the shop based on their conversations. I wished they stayed concentrate on making guest's orders, cut down the waiting time and cut down all of the not necessary mistakes, I just ordered one sandwich(only one) for my sister and she can't enjoy it? Small but quaint and plentiful readily made to-go items depending on what time of day you go. We went closer to closing so a lot of items already gone. They have a buy 2 get 1 free special which is nice. I ordered (2) #2 (ham, meatloaf, head cheese) and (1) #5 (bbq pork), grabbed 2 steamed bao buns, and 1 banana wrapped rice flour with stuffings. I got veggies on the side for my banh mis and that's a game changer if you plan on eating later. We ate hours later and even the next day as well. The bread was still fluffy and not stale. Was craving for a vietnamese sandwich. Found this place directly across the hospital where I had an appointment. You have to cross the busy street if you are coming from the hospital. Entered the place with a multitude selection to choose from. Egg rolls, pho soup, sandwiches and deserts. At the front counter, I ordered from this old Vietnamese lady x 2 Bun sandwiches, pork and chicken along with a fountain soda. The old lady that took my order was rude. She treated me with a demeanor of , your lucky your eating my food versus the other way around. She forgot who the customer is. Ordered and received my number for pick up. 10 mins go by then another 10 mins, I had to intervene and say.. where is my order? The lady again responded rudely. It was too late for me to walk out since I have already paid for my order. I became upset and turned it around on her. I stated I want my order that I paid for, do not give me an attitude. As the situation simmered down, she just handed my sandwiches without an apology. I walked out with my order in disbelief and dissapointment. Ate my sandwiches, not bad at all. I LOVE Che Cali! I've been coming to this spot since I was a little kid and it never disappoints. The baguettes are always on point. They're soft, airy, and freshly made daily. Unfortunately it was close, but not as good as the Fullerton location. It seems like everytime I try to order a che tai here, I only get asked if I want Thai tea. Im not Vietnamese, so there are moments of confusion. I said che tai multiple times today and lady said I have to let her know what I want. Which I said multiple times. I said "Che tai" not tra thai. Easily misheard terms between each other. i grew up eating banh mi che cali (in sgv) so i wanted to try the one down in oc since i moved here. i had really high expectations since i am very familiar with the menu. i came during late evening (~8pm) and expected a lot of items to be sold out. they only had 1 spring roll left and a few chicken entrees. i decided to get the spring roll and a few french baguette sandwiches. i also ordered eggrolls, which were amazing! the skin was still super crispy and it was warm. the spring roll was just okay and was poorly wrapped. the rice paper was broken, leading to the contents spilling out. the baguette wasn't crispy and was a bit stale/mushy. i was deeply disappointed :( i think i just came at a bad time and would love to give it another try! i know the potential this chain has. read more

This review is for their sit down restaurant. The food is pretty basic, typical and gets a pass. Not the best, not the worst. Prices are good. They don't clean the tables that well either. Most of the customers there know how to get in line. Most. The service up front is pretty bad, meaning that most employees don't speak English well, and seems like they are hard of hearing too because they squawk loudly. I have to repeat the order twice to make sure they get it right. One time this lady was taking my order then switched to her drive-thru headset midstream without informing me, kept me thinking she was till talking to me. WTF moment for sure and very annoying. I was shocked at the long line when we walked in the door. We could see the big amount of workers working their magic in the large bustling kitchen. We got only 1 banh mi, afraid that we'd be disappointed, but nope! The banh mi was absolutely scrumptious! I could taste every single ingredient from the spread, to the cilantro, to the jalapeno, to the sour pickles, and the charring of the bbq pork. And the French bread is made fresh in-house so it was warm, crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside. The ingredients and textures and flavors all melded together so well. I was nervous because i see all the bad reviews on the customer service, but my experience was pleasant. It was easy to order and it was fairly fast. They made all 3 of my sandwiches in front of me and i was out the door w/in 5min. They have solid deals where you can buy 2 get one 1 free for the $6 banhimi. You can't really beat that price anywhere 3 banhmis for $12. There desserts are also buy 2 get one 1 free, so 3 desserts for $6. Their banhmis are solid imo, comparable to anywhere else except for maybe pickle banhmi as pickle banhmi is a bit different. Ordered the #1, #7, and #11. #1 is solid, stuffed with all the classic vietnamese deli meats. #7 and #11 were good too because their hot sandwhiches, but the meat wasn't as much compared to #1.
