If you've actually been to Thailand you'll know this places gives you the taste but falls a bit short on the real deal. It's dubbed down for the common caucasian. I don't get the big hype about this place. Don't get me wrong, the food was fine, but it's not 4 or 5 stars. Maybe I have high standards since I LOVE thai food and eat it often. Two things: people commented on the coziness of the place, but personally I don't find uncushioned, hard (emphasis on hard) wooden benches nailed wall to wall cozy. I've downgraded the 5-star review I wrote last week, which I've left below. A few things have come up. I'm fairly certain there's MSG in something(s) I ordered the last 2 of 3 times. After the second time I called them and was told they don't use it, but I'm guessing there's some in something they're using. I'm sensitive to MSG and the headache is distinctive and unmistakable. I also asked for no egg and instead got egg in nearly everything, even in dishes that didn't have it before. In my first review I had said that the skin on the duck was crispy. This last time it was the usual flabby pale stuff I'm accustomed to getting when I order the duck meat option. Also, my recent order was excessively oily and greasy. Original review: Wow, this is the best Thai food I've had in over 30 years. As I recall, the first Thai restaurant in Boston opened in about the early eighties. The cuisine was so new and authentic that they hadn't figured out to dumb it down for American palates by making it milder, blander and using too much sugar. Thai food is among the spiciest in the world and I'm glad Bamboo Thai doesn't make it as incendiary as that original restaurant did when it first opened, but in all other regards Bamboo Thai's dishes are as smart and flavorful as that original place. Two examples of attention to culinary detail: I have to ask for no peanuts. Bamboo Thai asked me if I wanted cashew nuts instead. No restaurant has ever asked me that before (and they didn't charge me for it). Every time I order a dish with duck, the duck comes with pale, flabby, rubbery skin hanging off. This is one of my favorite local restaurants in Brighton! I've lived in the area for 2 years now and constantly eat Bamboo Thai both in the restaurant and via take-out/delivery. Regardless of where you're eating, the food is always delicious. Some of my go to dishes include the crispy rolls, chicken satay, house pad thai, or the crispy pad thai. I am not really a fan of Thai food, but this restaurant has made me reconsider. The basil fried rice is absolutely delicious. They make the food fresh to order and, boy is it scrumptious. I was thinking of ordering another order of the basil fried rice. Also, you don't have to worry about street parking. This was my go-to Thai for a long time and it hurts me to have to leave this review. We placed an order for delivery on grubhub and it was taking a bit long. I called the restaurant and the phone was instantly put down. A woman picked up and said hold one They hung up after 10 minutes of background noise and no one near the phone without answering any questions. I completely would understand if they were very busy or had technical difficulties and communicated those but this level of treatment was disappointing and unacceptable. I will say in the past, the food has truly been worthy of the 4 star rating. If I ever give them another chance I will consider bumping them up but frankly after tonight, I find it unlikely that I will take that risk. read more

Terrible, 1) The portions are incredibly small, especially in comparison to other thai places with similar dishes. 2) A dish, not described as spicy at all but lemon grass, was the spiciest sauce I've ever had on noodles. I like spicy food but my wife does not, so I had to switch dishes with her and it was still too spicy for me. Why wouldn't you describe it as spicy? Also, it was spice with zero flavor which is just a waste. 3) Not enough noodles which is part of the portioning issue. If I order noodles with veggies, I expect at least 50% noodles. I got more like 20-30% noodles and the rest was large veggies but large veggies without much substance like chunks of onion. 4) The veggies were not cooked well. The carrots were tough like they weren't actually cooked. Overall, poop!. Won't order from them again. Would give them 0.5 star rating if I could. read more

Bamboo has never disappointed me when it comes to their food. As soon as you enter, you will see a clean and beautiful environment with a staff ready to seat you. If you need parking, you can request for a free pass to use at a nearby parking lot. Pad Thai is amazing for its' price and quality. I love the Thai ice tea here too! Great atmosphere - large fishtank with lots of interesting fish, paintings on the wall done by local artists, pretty candle holders and flowers (usually big bright gerber daisies) on each table, and low-lighting and relaxing music for a romantic mood. On a recent trip to the Boston area, the hotel we were staying suggested the Bamboo Thai Restaurant for dinner. Not really a fan of Thai, but the food there did not disappoint. The appetizers and entrees we ordered: Crab Rangoon, Chicken Satay, Chicken and Pork Pad Thai and Radna Noodles were very good (even as next day leftovers). The Thai ice tea was perfect as well... The servings were generous and the prices were reasonable. If in the area again (or if my son does go to college in the Boston area), we'll definitely come back again for dinner. read more

We have been going to Bamboo for years. Their food and service never let us down. I have tried a variety of their food from chicken dishes, fish dishes, and their massive soups. Everything has a balance- both visually and through flavors. Service is on point with waiters and waitresses attending to the tables efficiently and quickly. It's the little things that matter... if my water glass is half full, it gets topped off and if I happen to quickly finish it they refill it just as fast. The menu is complete with a variety of dishes from light appetizers, vegetarian entrees, and house specialties. I try to mix up what I get but I have my favorite, which is their curry noodle soup. Parking is tough, but you can leave your car at the Whole Foods a block down (the restaurant lends you a pass to place on your windshield). Request to sit by the fish tank. This place has the best drunken noodles I've ever had (don't get too excited, I haven't tried them at too many places.) They're nice and spicy and the chicken is higher quality than at some other places in the area. The mango sticky rice is a gem. I know it's $6 but it's a huge thing of sticky rice covered in maybe coconut milk? I don't know, I don't even like coconuts but this is delicious. And to top it off delicious juicy slices of mango which are never underripe. I gotta find out where they're getting their mangos... I've only had delivery here, but every time I've had it delivered it comes waaaaay before I think it will and I don't live THAT close. on comm ave there is a dope ass thai restaurant called BAMBOO. I walked by this place and noticed that Zagats and all these food reviews things (phatom, etc.) had said this is the best in boston. That was enough to convince me to try it out. Small inside, funky interior but diesel menu that tastes really good. We had some spring rolls (large and fresh veggies) and had Crispy pad thai (fried crispy noodles instead of rice noodles) with shrimp and chicken with a sweet sauce (huge portion for lunch) , we also had seafood pik pow (scallops, shirmp, calamari) in a spicy sauce (which was decent). Prices are real good 8-12 bucks for lunch and there are tons of other things I want to try. Did not try the bathroom but I can report on that next time. I used to order delivery from here quite a bit - my go-to for pad thai. At the time, I only lived about 5 minutes away (don't judge!) and I'd consistently get my food very quickly. Their Pad Thai is wonderful, and this is always a good measure of a good Thai restaurant. The ambience is casual but elegant, and contrary to what one review said, it's not at all crowded. Did the management change? I noticed a change in phone number, but I didn't think anything of it. When I received my food it was nothing like I remembered. It was all mushy. Cooked way too long. Not well seasoned at all. I was so disappointed. This use to be one of my favorite places. The food today made me sick, It was just awful. Also, when a place charges $1 for a side sauce it's usually a substantial amount of sauce. It's not usually the same size as the small ones they give with the meal. What a rip off. The beed satay was like steel wool. Just gross. Vegetarian spring roll with no veggies. If they should've gotten one thing right it wiuld be the pad thai, but no. A thai restaurant that has reasonable prices for Thai food in a sit down restaurant. I came here on a Monday night and it was dead quiet. There was only two other parties in the restaurant but it seemed like there were a few delivery/take out orders. The second thing I noticed is that the walls were pink. And the place was decked out in Valentine's day hearts and lights. Cool... I guess? Kind of tacky if you ask me. I ordered the beef pad see ew, and I thought it was just alright. Nothing outstanding, but not terrible either. The waitress was not the most attentive person in the world, but that's to be expected from a low key restaurant. However, my friend and I were taking our time eating and conversing when the waitress kept coming by and asking if we were finished. After the 3rd time, we said yes and she packed up the rest of our food for us and left us the check. But we were in no rush so we left it on the table while we continued our conversation. The waitress must have came by 4 times to get the check back and made it feel like she was rushing us out when there was hardly anyone in the restaurant and clearly no one waiting for a table! And after we paid the check, we continued talking at the table for a while longer, and the waitress never came back to refill our waters or anything. Bamboo Restaurant is like Thai for beginners. For my appetizer, I tried the Som Tum (green papaya salad.) Traditionally this is shredded green papaya, marinated with chilies, fish sauce, dried shrimp, lime, sugar, tomatoes, and green beans. The Bamboo version was more like a tossed salad, the papaya wasn't marinated at all, instead it was just raw, and there was a complete lack of chili heat. The side of sticky rice that I ordered to accompany it was so old and dried out that it was leathery. My jaw got a work out with each bite. Next, I tried the Drunken Noodles (pad kee mao). Traditional pad kee mao is hangover food that is supposed to be soooo spicy that you break into a head sweat to purge the alcohol from your system. Again, Bamboo failed to impress. The noodles were limp, cloyingly sweet, and absent was the mouth searing heat that the dish is known for. Bamboo is just one of many Thai choices in the area, and compared to the rest, it is only mediocre. Overall, most of the dishes I tried are Americanized versions lacking in depth and complexity. Everything seems a bit under seasoned and bland. Maybe they're afraid to give you the real deal, or maybe they choose to cater to a more timid crowd. Either way, I've had better elsewhere. read more

Spicy and right as I slurped from the bowl. Drunken noodle is really HOT and SPICY, too. Also, it's not overpowering, too. This is the real deal Thai restaurant. I was pleased to eat there instead of Brown Sugar because their drunken noodle dish didn't do me a justice because it didn't have any flavors. Also, you will get the welcoming feeling there because most of the Thai workers have their friendly trait which attracts a lot of customers to come in and enjoy the authenticity of the Thai restaurant and cuisine. The service is decent. The waitress who served me was very concerning and reassuring. My boyfriend and I followed a City Dining Card here on a frosty winter day, and we were sure glad we did! This restaurant is conveniently located right off the B-line at Washington St. As soon as we entered, the service was fast and attentive without being overbearing or rushed, and the food was excellent as well - fresh, fast, and cooked just right. Our favorite picks were the spring rolls, chicken satay, crispy chicken pad thai, and spicy chicken basil fried rice. At under $10 per dish, the food was more than well worth the price. The only thing we took issue with was the water, which tasted like it had either been infused with an herb or other fruit/vegetable (of which we could not identify) or was actually just bad water. In any case though, it was nothing a soda and more food couldn't fix. Our advice: come here for the tasty and affordable food, but maybe stick to non-water beverages! read more

I ordered delivery recently. overall, the food was delivered rather quickly. We ordered food online, the estimate said 45-60 minutes but it got here in less than 30 (we ordered three dishes). The delivery man was courteous. Now for the three dishes: -Fresh Mango Fried rice: the mango was far from fresh, but I will admit I don't think it was from a can. There was no heat (spice/pepper) or other spices to provide a great spice experience. My main problem with this dish was that the shrimp were not de-viened. As someone that's been eating and cooking shrimp my whole life, I can tell you that's poor form. Clean your shrimp Yelp world! -Pad Thai, Crispy chicken: this also was a flop. This dish lacked the expected amount of Pad Thai sauce. The crispy chicken option was a bit non-standard and was dry. -Spicy Basil Fried Rice: this dish was very good.
