Good size bakery with a decent amount of seating for how packed it was on a Sunday afternoon. Babkas are the go to pastry in Boston, and they do them right! They offered plenty of samples for those in line. I got a pre made lox sandwich and a pumpkin babka. The sandwich was delicious with soft bread! The babka was sweet without being over the top! Definitely a must try!!
I arrived five minutes after they opened. Ordered a tasty chocolate Babka fresh out of the oven. Their Babka is $8 a slice yet two people could split one slice. Lots of different flavors to choose from.
The babkas were amazing. Both people who had the chocolate hazelnut babkas said they were incredible. My mom said it's one of the best she's ever had and she's had a lot. It was even good the next day. The croissant was huge and so good soft and tasty. It was great the next day as well. The broissant was very sweet and delicious. The buerkas we had were great as well. The staff were super friendly. Shout out Ricardo the baker who got me a fresh babka out of the oven since I was waiting 20 mins. Everything is made fresh. The place was clean. Would come here again next time I'm in Boston.
When you step in, it smells so good inside! I tried their chocolate banana babka, almond babka, and their classic chocolate one! I would say the chocolate one was my favorite! None of them were too overly decadent nor sweet. They were perfect. Staff was also serving out free samples and they had a good amount of seating area!
We were visiting from out of town and met up with family here. Special shout out to Kenedy who was lovely and was tremendously helpful and patient with everyone! The service here was great and the baked goods were top tier. We had a chocolate pastry babka and a bagel with cream cheese. Both were tremendously delicious. Their coffee was just okay. There are a lot of tables inside and a few outside. We walked there so cannot comment on the parking. Great for breakfast on the go!
They were right, the Babka is the best in town. The pistachio is awesome especially with a cup of cappuccino. They offer other flavors too. Will definitely come back and try their many offerings when I'm back in town. The best partI managed to get the big loaf of babka and ask them to cut it up into three so I can take it as carry on going back to California. Service staff are awesome for they take care of their customers well.
Bakey makes the most amazing chocolate babka! I stopped by this location right before I left Boston so I could bring a few loaves home to share. This location is large and clean and I like walking in to the smells of all the beautiful freshly baked treats. Staff is friendly and efficient. I got a few loaves and a few other treats to go. Highly recommend a stop at Bakey!!
The desserts were very good. Soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside. The raspberry was good but the banana chocolate pecan was amazing. Highly recommend. There didn't seem to be many options when I went but what they have is good.
We are back again and still loving it. Half of Boston was here this morning, but the service was still fast. Located right by Boston Common, you can't beat it. The pastry selection is exceptional. This is always on our list when we come for a visit.
So many options for Babka, which is a sweet braided bread originated in the Jewish communities of Europe. Can't resist the ooey, gooey delicious baked goods. Smells so good once you walk in. They warm it up before they serve it and the chocolate one is so delicious. The Baker is, James Beard Award-nominee, Uri Scheft. There's lots of people working and chatting at the common tables.
Stopped by to escape the chilly wind, and wow--this place is heaven for your nose and sweet tooth. And it smells divine in here! They're famous for their babkas, and it's easy to see why. When we visited, they had chocolate, raspberry, blueberry, and almond options: each slice is $6.50 ($6.90 for chocolate), or you can get a full loaf for $19.50. Other items on the menu included spinach & cheese burekas, goat cheese croissants, muesli rolls, and challah. We tried the chocolate and raspberry babkas. The chocolate babka is supreme: gooey, rich, and made with dark, high-quality chocolate that leans more bitter than sweet. Loved it. The raspberry babka wasn't my fave--dryer and a bit less indulgent. The tart raspberry flavor is nice, but I didn't like the sweet raspberry cream on top. But the babka base itself is fantastic: light, airy, buttery, and slightly sweet like brioche. They also serve Seattle's Caffè Umbria coffee, which pairs well with the pastries. I recommend getting a hot drink to enjoy with your pastry. We opted out since we already had coffee from another place. There's so many tables inside, water, and public bathrooms. You can watch them make the baked goods (bagels were in the works) and grab your coffee from the coffee bar or cross the street to enjoy in the Common.
Quick service, clean environment, friendly staff. I ordered a pumpkin Babka. It was baked fresh, warm, cinnamon, topped with maybe a caramel swirl and toasted pumpkin seeds. It was amazing and would order again! Yummy!
Came to Bakey to try the Babka. What a delectable treat it was. We had the chocolate, banana, pecannnn babka. Highly recommend! It had so many flavors all harmoniously operating within the confines of the bread, so delicious! We washed it down with a hot lavender latte. The latte was delicious as well and had a heart shape to boot. Service was quick and well executed. The ambiance of the place is warm and inviting with the smell of fresh baked goods present. Highly recommend if you are in the commons walking around.

I like to pop by Bakey on days I work downtown for an excellent ice coffee and an inevitable pastry ! I believe the Babka's are their signature item and they do not disappoint - the Raspberry was especially delicious, a perfect sweet fruity tang surrounded by flaky pastry. The apple and chocolate are also outstanding, choco chip cookie top notch, and a premade bagel sandwich good (loved all the veggies on top). It's Kosher so it worked out perfectly when I was looking for a gift for a Kosher coworker and has a nice open, clean space looking out onto the Boston Common. The chocolate babka is for real! I'd go just to get that but they also have other delicious treats. We stopped by for the sandwiches on challa bagel. The tuna salad didn't have celery in it so it was delicious. The egg salad bagel sandwich was also good. Service was helpful and friendly. The chocolate baba is really decadent and much more complex than I'm used to from any other place I've tried it. Slightly tangy, and a bit bittersweet, Clean, modern interior with lots of circulation / standing around space. There's a case that I didn't explore much with premade grab and go stuff, and while the emphasis is on a dozen kinds of babka, there are bagel and bagel sandwiches too, as well as a decent coffee bar (and a few hot teas for me) Really like the space and quick service. read more

I went to this place twice during my visit to Boston, both times I was a little disappointed. First I got mushroom babka and an iced latte. The mushroom babka was delicious and a work of art, so so delicious! The iced latte on the other hand was ok. Lets just say its a lot of ice even when asked for less ice. The second time I just decided to get a mushroom babka. Was surprised to see that it was undercooked and a little raw. Disappointed again, see pictures! Let's talk about the service and ambiance. Nice place located right by he Boston Commons. I came bc I saw this place on social media. The babka was good, as well as the egg salad bagel. The Boston cream babka was very large dense and flavorful. The place is large and has a lot of seating. Restrooms available. I wish the place gave you the food in a more formal presentation. The place has a nice cafe feel, but served food like take-out grocery store. Example: my sandwich was in a paper plate and my Boston cream babka put in small paper bag and was smushed. read more

Babka, baby!! I came in around 12:30pm today (Valentine's Day.. also a Tuesday), and there was no line at all. At the counter, I asked if there were slices of the chocolate babka available (I needed two). The staff member looked toward the oven and said a new batch was being made, and they wouldn't be ready for a while. I needed to get back to work so couldn't wait around for them. Fortunately, she said that she could just cut into one of the loafs that was in the display. Hallelujah! She cut the loaf down the middle, and put each slice into a bag. She rang me up right away, and I was all set to go in 5 min or less. Loved the helpful & expedient service! And the babka?! It's SIMPLY THE BEST. Not dry. Great amount of chocolate. Layers. Flavor. The quality is just unreal. I wish I'd bought the entire loaf just for myself! read more

Delicious pastries, I absolutely love popping into this store anytime I'm in the area! The moment you walk in the aroma just hits you and it's such a soothing, rich smell. We were visiting Boston and was having breakfast before a tour that meets up at the Boston Common. This was right across from our meetup place and their photos on Yelp just looked so appetizing. Yelp, you definitely came through on this one! The bagels and the chocolate babka we had were incredibly tasty and filling. The bread was soft and delicious! Service was excellent as well and you got your order in no time. The area is mostly filled with folks having brunch like you as well so it was a good ambience. I wish this place was nearer to us. I recommend Bakey to anyone who wants great bagels and coffee while in Boston! read more

Ok walking in it's hot inside but the breads and pastries smelled like heaven. I wanted to try everything. They also sell coffee and lattes. Get discounted coffee if you buy a pastry with it. I ordered a smoked salmon sandwich, a raspberry babka and a strawberry sant with a latte. Omg. So good. The bread for the smoked salmon was soooo soft and light. The strawberry and the raspberry babka was soft and you can taste the fresh fruits in every bite. They do have bathrooms under code lock. Overall great place except that heat inside on a summer day made it kinda of uncomfortable. read more

SO GOOD! Love stopping by here for a sweet treat. My go-to is the almond babka (super flaky and great almond flavor: if you love almond croissants, I HIGHLY recommend), but their chocolate babka is a classic. They also have an array of other breads and pastries--their sourdough loaf is delicious. Just tried their seasonal peach babka--super flavorful with a crumble on top. Loved the peach slices in the babka! read more

I died and went to Israeli heaven. Looking for a breakfast spot in the area that I haven't tried yet, I stumbled upon Bakey on Yelp and was intrigued by the 5 star rating. It's not quite a breakfast spot, but certainly can be if you like a savory or sweet pastry (or both -- it's easy to walk it off in Boston) with coffee or tea. They deserve every single star! My favorite challah spot only bakes challah on Fridays, so I couldn't bring one home with me on Sunday without it being stale. It makes sense for Shabbat, but then I saw that Bakey makes challah every day, and that makes so much sense too! Challah bread is the best bread any day of the week! I also got a goat cheese croissant and apple babka. Both were so fresh and delicious. The secret is that they bake fresh all day, and having it made a few minutes ago versus a few hours ago makes a world of difference. Oat milk latte was delicious as well. They give you a discount on drinks if you pair it with a pastry -- it was $3 with a pastry, versus $5.25 by itself, so don't just go in for coffee. It would take a lot of willpower to leave here without a freshly baked good anyway. read more

First things first, this place smells amazing! Right when you walk in you smell all the fresh baked bread goodness. The person at the counter was friendly and greeted us right away. We ordered the pumpkin babka... because it's spooky season. It had pumpkin seeds on top for a little crunch and warm pumpkin in the center. It was delicious and was perfect to share with my aunt for just a little somethin' somethin'. read more
First visit: Ordered three kinds of babka (sweet pastry loaves) from the few-weeks-old Bakey. All were warm and fresh, and they plan to cook throughout the day to ensure freshness even if you don't go at opening. The chocolate babka loaf was very similar to Breads Bakery in NYC, where Bakey owner Uri Scheft was a cofounder: braided dough, quality chocolate (kind of in between milk and dark), crusty top spilling over the top, and a buttery flavor throughout. The chocolate are sold by the loaf or by the piece; raspberry babka and apple raisin babka are only by the piece and look more like danish, but nothing wrong with that: still soft and bouncy and warm and delicious. Second visit: Same trio, same high quality, and all again served warm. Uri Scheft was on premises making breads. A chocolate chip cookie wasn't as photogenic or as wow-worthy as what they're slinging at Levain, but much tastier. Thin, soft, crisp in the bottom, and much more bendy, and you can taste the delicious dough and not only the chips. And those chips include three kinds: milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and white chocolate. Third visit: Arrived at opening, and this time the chocolate babka wasn't just warm, but piping hot. Even more buttery (in a good way) than the first two times, and so soft, moist, and melty of chocolate; it was a spectacular item. Figuring that one loaf gives you three very generous servings, each is about the same price as a Union Square donut, and so much fresher and so much more satisfying. Good coffee too. Relaxed atmosphere. Friendly staff. Bakey? Me likey. read more
Found this when I was around Boston Commons. Raspberry babka ($5) - a little on the tart side. I think this would be really good when raspberries are in season. The babka is soft and fluffy. Chocolate babka loaf ($14) - the chocolate babka is my favorite! I'm not a huge chocolate pastry person but this wasn't overwhelmingly chocolate-y. It was soft and fluffy with swirls of chocolate and chocolate chips. This was significantly sweeter than the raspberry babka so it felt a little heavy. Overall, this place was good but on the expensive side. read more
did a too good to go order for here, and got a classic chocolate babka, a loaf of bread, and a cheese bread stick. and since it was too good to go all of it was only ~$6, so for my experience it was very very value! the service was super quick too and the food tastes great! was perfect for a picnic in Boston commons the babka had good gooey chocolate and the bread was very soft, chewy, and buttery the cheese stick was so nice and airy, and the cheese had good flavor the bread was beautiful, it was big and had a hard crust so it was hard to cut but the inside was nicely light. it tasted good too and honestly I just ate it plain sometimes because it was really solid bread. but also paired well with like avocado! read more

I have never had chocolate babka and probably won't be able to have it again because Bakey's chocolate babka was out of this world !!!!!!! Every time I had it - it was hot and fresh - so good. I also bought one to take home with me. I cut it into slices and froze it. Then reheated it in my toaster oven and it was pretty close to getting it fresh. The cinnamon babka was excellent too! They also sell olives, marinated red onions, cream cheese, fish spread and lots of other good things. I decided to buy the chefs cookbook to see if we could make this at home.....though I'm sure it won't be like the real thing. I wish I lived closer :( Bakey come to California!!!! read more

Everything here is ridiculously delicious... seriously, you can't go wrong! My fiancé and I were in Boston for a quick 3 day trip, and we literally went to Bakey every morning for coffee and pastries. The babka was so fresh and still warm in the morning - we tried the chocolate, cinnamon sugar, pumpkin, and mushroom. Also had the cheese sticks which were amazing. I dropped by around 4pm expecting to pick through a small selection of cold, close to day-old pastries and breads, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that almost all of the items were still available. They were all fresh and warm, too! I decided to try something sweet and something savory. I got a spinach and cheese bureka ($5.50) and a chocolate babka ($5.50). Both of them were so good! The bread was flaky, soft, and fluffy at the same time. The spinach and cheese filling had a lot of flavor and there was a lot of chocolate in the babka. Neither were overwhelmingly salty or sweet. The employees were also friendly and helpful! All around a very pleasant experience. The coffee drinks are slightly discounted if ordered with a pastry. This place deserves even more hype, and I look forward to trying their other items soon. read more

Saw this in social media recently, and was excited to finally try babkas! My partner and I ordered a tuna salad bagel, garden salad bagel, raspberry babka, and cinnamon babka - TASTE: 4/5 - the bagel sandwiches seemed pretty standard to us, as we were more invested in the babka (we previously tried their chocolate babka and almond babka, which I thought were lovely). We both liked the raspberry babka's filling. The cinnamon babka was strong w cinnamon, but it felt like it could've used a frosting or filling to kick it up a notch. Very tempted to come back and splurge on a 24" chocolate or almond babka loaf hehe TEXTURE: 4/5 - the everything bagel wasn't toasted, but can't go wrong w the combo of garlic, onion, and poppy seeds. The raspberry babka was dense and chewy, while the cinnamon babka was more flaky and layered PRICE: 4/5 - thought the garden salad bagel should've been a little cheaper. Total came out to $30 SERVING SIZE: 4/5 - the bagel sandwiches were a pretty light portion SERVICE: 4/5 - we walked in at 12:30pm on a Friday, and waited only a few minutes in line. The woman behind the counter, who helped us with our order, explained that they didn't have the strawberry broissant today unfortunately ATMOSPHERE: 4/5 - larger space than I expected, w some seating inside and outside.
