    Strawberry shortcake

I love when I have an errand in the East Bay and I will gladly go 5 minutes out my way yo get what my untrained taste buds call the BEST chicken sandwich around. Yeah, have had Raising Cains, Chick Fil-A, Popeye, Proposition Chicken, etc. But there is no question this iocation is the best. Interestingly enough the locale has imptoved immensely around there. Temescal is up and coming along Telegraph.

Hadn't been to Bakesale Betty in over 15 years, so I figured it was time for a revisit. Went Sunday at opening; line moved fast. Cinnamon roll was okay but small (about four bites), needed more bake time and more cream cheese frosting. Strawberry shortcake ($8) was overpriced for the portion: tiny cake, plenty of strawberries, but just a small dollop of whipped cream in one corner. Wish it had been better balanced. Glad I tried it again, but won't be back.

Do not underestimate the power of the local pie store in the Temescal neighborhood! If you're looking for a local business that makes the best pies, whether it be apple, blueberry, or more -- look no further than Bakesale Bettty! They are located right off of Telegraph and 51st Street, right across from the Children's Hospital of Oakland. Though they do most of their sales outside (rain or shine), they know just how to impress the right people -- and one of those people would have to include me because their pies really took me to a different level of pie appreciation. We went on a Friday morning (keep in mind they are closed Monday through Wednesday, so plan accordingly when you want to go buy these pies), and while the lines were a bit long, the line wasn't too bad, and they went rather quick. Me and my friend got the banana cream pie, and the key lime pie. I love how tart the pies were -- the banana cream was so layered, made with actual banana and it was topped with another layer of cream and chocolate covering. All in all, $7 a slice for a piece of pie is not bad at all, especially if they were made by food artisans who knew their craft. Ambiance is rather good, and not underwhelming at all. This place IS worth the hype forsure xD I'm definitely recommending Bakesale Betty to any and all friends who want to try this :)) till we meet again!!

Banana cream pie is a must!! 10/10 Strawberry shortcake 10/10 Chocolate chip cookie 10/10 Cinnamon roll 10/10 Lines are long, but goes by really quickly . You'll just see everyone on the sidewalk waiting for their order. Friendly staff everything here is amazing. We had lunch somewhere else, but otherwise we would have ordered their chicken sandwich.

Such a gem! I've been going here for almost 3 years and I will never get tired of the items here! Staff is always so friendly and helpful especially when I come and ask about the pot pie lol! Tip on that is to just place an order for the following week. I also recommend trying the strawberry shortcake when it is in season :) In the picture is their chicken sandwich and their slaw which contains jalapeños. Such a crispy and refreshing balance. Only sauce they have is hot sauce and they give you a few packets of that at the window if you ask. Great vibes and grab and go service since you order at the table! If you have the time and you are in the area, def try!

After living in the East Bay for 8 years, I finally had the chance to experience the legendary Bakesale Betty. I've driven by countless times trying to quickly read their handwritten menus while I drive past. This time, even after we had bagels down the road, we decided to stop and grab a Fried Chicken Sandwich ($14) and a Cinnamon Roll ($4.50). The two lovely humans working the register outside were so enthusiastic & patient as I took my time reading through each item. I was *almost* convinced to also get some Bread Pudding, but I have to make sure I have other things to try in the future! I was initially only going to get the sandwich, but the cinnamon rolls were displayed so conveniently in the window and they were calling my name. Everything was already prepped, so we had our food in less than five minutes! The Fried Chicken Sandwich was almost bursting out of the container and I believe was being held closed by a rubber band because of how packed it was! (This is ALWAYS a good sign.) Not only was the fried chicken perfectly golden brown & seasoned inside and out, the slaw was delightful. Acidic, refreshing, and provided some balance to the sandwich. I really think people don't emphasize how important it is to season your batter for fried chicken, but Bakesale Betty knows EXACTLY what's up. The bun itself was nothing too exciting, if anything, I wish the bun was warm. The Cinnamon Roll was very yummy. Covered in a huge scoop of frosting, the dough was not too dense, fluffy, and the cinnamon sugar wasn't too sweet! I'd absolutely buy a dozen to take to my friends or coworkers. If you do visit, make sure you plan where you'll enjoy your food. They do not have seating. You can walk around the block and hang out in the alley by Curbside Creamery or you could have a fun picnic on the Cal Campus!

Good old times from Bakesales Betty The quality is unforgettable. Deeply fried tender chickens and moist inside top it off with the spicy coleslaw. Perfect match The shortcake came out it a little dry but still delicious

Bakesale Betty is at the corner of Telegraph and 51st and is a takeaway fried chicken sandwich and dessert spot. The team here was nice, welcoming and efficient- helping customers quickly get their items. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich ($14.60) and they were nice enough to slice it in half for me since I knew I wouldn't be able to finish it all. It's a simple sandwich, quality bun, flavorful and fresh slaw, and a crispy piece of chicken. They also packed some hot sauce in the box with the sandwich. The slaw made the sandwich for me. It was crunchy, flavorful and bright and added some texture to the dense piece of chicken. I enjoyed the fried coating on the chicken and it's best eaten fresh for the full flavor experience. Next time I'll have to try some of their desserts, they sound delicious.

Love my Bakesale Betty fix in Oakland They only make one lunch item and they do it right!! The chicken sandwich that all others aspire to be! Perfectly fried chicken- crunchy outside and juicy inside on a bed of fresh jalepeno slaw served on an acme bun! So simple and so good. They also have lots of pies and cookies for dessert. We got the ginger molasses cookie, the pecan shortbread, and oatmeal raisin! The best!!!

Bake sale Betty...... Mmmm Mmmmm DELICIOUS! this place gets packed and busy and the operation time is limited, so if you go there, it may have a long line, but they will get the orders in and out real quick. The chicken is tender and crispy, the slaw has a little spice since it has jalapeño's in it but it's a nice blend. If they have the strawberry short cake... GET IT!! ITS HELLLLLLLLLAAAAAA GOOD HAHAHA.

An outside stand, no seating. The menu items are largely displayed on the windows. You order and the food comes out fairly quickly. We did take our food to a local small park with benches. The fried chicken sandwich was good. The fried chicken itself could have been slightly juicier, but the flavors were spot on. That slaw is addicting! Also don't forget to drizzle Frank's hot sauce all over for an extra kick!

I tried their fried chicken sandwich and it was amazing. I loved that it didn't feel super heavy after i ate it. The slaw wasn't the typical mayo slaw, it was this vinaigrette slaw which i prefer over mayo slaw. The sandwich was huge. I couldn't figure out how to start eating because it was huge. For $15 I thought it was a solid fried chicken sandwich. Simple, nothing fancy but delicious. The chicken was juicy and the fried batter was thin and light. Street parking only. Could be hard to find. No seating but we walked down the street and found some seats at a parklet for another restaurant to eat since they weren't open yet. I have to come back to try their strawberry shortcake when strawberries are in season again, I heard it's amazing!

For our drinks, I had the Moonlight Blossom, my aunt had a glass of red wine, and my mom had a cucumber mint spritzer (mocktail as she was the DD). The moonlight blossom tasted similar to cherry limeade. The entrees we had were the mussels, veggie burger, and the chef's market pizza. The mussels themselves were tasty and appreciated that they were able to leave out the chorizo. However, I wish that they brought a spoon and there was more broth. I tried some of my mom's veggie burger and the red color from the beets made it stand out from the usual veggie burger. The fries tasted homemade. I had a slice of the pizza and while I like the ingredients themselves, the combination just didn't do it for me. The crust was good though! We also shared a green goddess salad, which was tasty. The desserts looked amazing but we had no room! Service was friendly and our waitress made good recommendations. Can park on the side streets or the garage. Restaurant was not noisy. Would come back to try other items, especially dessert.

The food also came out pretty quickly. The presentation of the pizza was top notch and I could not wait to dig in. The portion size was adequate. The vegan cheese was yummy and the spice level of the pizza was just right. The pizza was packed with flavor and thin crust! My friend liked the shakshouka too. You can select between 4 different items should you choose this appetizer. We ended up selecting the smoked duck breast and chicken pâté. Both of these options were excellent with the duck breast coming topped with a small amount of flake salt. These starters were also served with crostini, mustard & pickles, and a fruit spread. The mustard provided some nice balance to the richness of the proteins. Additionally, we ordered a little gem salad which was solid. Nothing too out of the ordinary, but good. For my main, I went with the chicken thigh. The thigh was cooked to perfection with an excellent crust and rich sauce surrounding it. The meat was tender and flavorful. I also think the charred vegetables added an interesting bitterness to the meal. We both ordered dirty martinis which were also excellently balanced (extra olive juice of course). Overall, our meal was excellent. The food was good and the vibes were right. Our servers were attentive and friendly. I've heard word that Wood Tavern will be closing down soon unfortunately. The hostess was welcoming, and the staff who brought out our food were friendly. Unfortunately, our server provided a very different experience. When we asked for appetizer recommendations, he simply repeated the menu items without offering any suggestions. Throughout the meal, he never checked on our table, even though we noticed him checking on the surrounding tables several times. At one point, the patio umbrella unexpectedly fell near our table. Instead of first asking if everyone was okay, his only response was, "Do you mind if I close the umbrella?" That was disappointing and made us feel overlooked. The only time his attitude became noticeably friendlier was when he brought the check. We happened to be the only Asian table that afternoon. While I can't say for certain why our experience felt different, the contrast in service left us feeling unwelcome. I hope every customer receives the same level of care and attention.

The sauce it was paired with was the wow factor and we even asked for more. The bulgogi on both the bulgogi bowl and bulgogi scramble was tender and had a tasty marinade. I would had wished the bulgogi scramble didn't have as much red onion. I was surprised with the sweet potato tots option and that didn't disappoint.
