Super fun Stranger Things Pop Up Bar! We didn't realize we needed reservations, so make sure you book in advance. But, we waited inside city kitchen and we were able to make it into the bar! We ordered drinks from the main bar but they also have servers taking orders. I went with a margarita! Fun picture ops but they need to be playing 80s music! Overall we had a fun time. read more

I stopped and had a drink at Bakery Square after doing some shopping. It was a beautiful day so I sat outside. Each table has a QR code where you can place your food/drink order table side. Upon arrival, a staff member brought out water and silverware. This outdoor space is great. I sometimes will come here to watch Steeler games when the weather is nice. A friend and I had a Galentine's date night at bakery Square and had the greatest time. We started at Alta Via Pizzeria for dinner and cocktails before attending a Valentine's Day themed cocktail class hosted by bakery Square. The bakery Square staff checked us in and were so nice and helped us to our spot. We laughed ALL night making cocktails and meeting new friends. I highly recommend going to bakery Square whether it is catching up with friends, a date night, or even just to get out of the house. Will definitely be back!! read more

It took me a bit to figure out it how it all works here, ended up going into city kitchen which had a few diff restaurants to order from, 4 and a pop up up one for the night. You're seated at a table and I was told you order using the barcode on the table and servers will bring your food to you. First few times my order wouldn't go through and I wanted to give up but then it finally did. We got a Nashville chicken sandwich from Elevate, potato skins from Charred and bulgogi egg rolls from the Asian place. The Nashville Chicken Sandwich (didn't come with fries) was the worst thing I ate in Pittsburgh, possibly in Pennsylvania. The breading sliding off and the chicken soggy. Gross. Gross. Not remotely Nashville spicy or spiced. It even has a chipotle sauce, weird. Came with a side salad of some leaves. You could pay extra for fries. The potato skins were flavorless and not really skins, more like potato halves. The bulgogi egg rolls were really good! But all the other food was overpriced and just BAD. Bakery Square has a few office buildings, which are occupied by Google, UPMC, Philips, Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Pittsburgh, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and others. The shopping center also has apartments and townhouses for residents. Bakery Square's restaurants include Alta Via Pizzeria, Galley, Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams, Jimmy John's, Panera, Starbucks, and Tako Torta. Current retail stores include Anthropologie, BHLDN, Free People, and West Elm. Other businesses include PNC Bank, LA Fitness, TIAA, and Springhill Suites. Some vacant storefronts remain to be filled and are still available for lease. I like this shopping center because it is new and nice. I started my morning with an outdoor yoga class at Bakery Square, and it was such a vibe! The atmosphere is super relaxed with just the right amount of energy--flowing in the sunshine felt amazing. Bakery Square in East Liberty consists of office buildings, stores, and restaurants. The main footprint is on one side of Penn Ave with a sky bridge across Penn Ave to office buildings. Just some of the office tenants include Google and Philips while retail stores include Anthropologie, Free People, and West Elm and restaurants include Panera and Tako among others. There is limited parking in front of each establishment but a multi-level covered garage is on the property. I like the concept and the stores are inviting in both merchandise, cleanliness, and layouts. That said, there is community concern, rightfully so, regarding the whole topic of gentrification and who the audience is. Walnut Capital, the owner of Bakery Square wants to expand into space curently occupied by its neighbors of Trader Joes and other tenants in that plaza. That project is still to be decided. My thoughts? I loved my visit to West Elm, Anthropologie, and Free People. Eye candy was everywhere. It did make me wonder how such upscale/pricey merchandise stores are surviving while local malls are struggling. Did I buy anything? No. But i did enjoy looking and merchandise was more unique than the usual mall fare. read more

A great place for community gatherings as there's so many different options for food, all of them delicious. In the main gallery of BKSQ you can mobile order and have any of the restaurants deliver the food right to your table which is super convenient. I personally love the greenery and design of the space as there are plenty of places to sit all with outlets which is great if you want to get work done. What a wonderful place!!! It was warm enough to eat outside. We all ordered from different places from a digitized menu on the table. Huge TV showing the NFL game and places for kids to play. This area is pet friendly. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The trees were changing color and it was just a perfect day. There is a hotel (where my parents stayed) and a Starbucks-always a good thing. I had chicken pot pie and tea. The bathrooms were clean and there is a parking building on site. This vast space is so nice! Enjoy drinks from the bar and food from a handful of food stations (see my pics to drool over!). There's also outdoor seating where football watch parties and other events take place. Parking in the garage next door is free for 3 hours when I went on a weeknight after 5pm. Worst hotel experience of my life. After a long drive, I arrive at a crazy busy shopping plaza where the hotel is located. There is no one working outside the hotel and no signs except for a no parking or loading sign. After driving around for a while, we call the hotel to learn that we are supposed to park in the no parking area. There is only room for 2 cars there! So finally I park there and enter. Then I am told to park in a parking area that connects. However when I park there, no signs indicate how it connects to the hotel. The hotel had no personnel to assist me except for one girl behind the desk who could only provide vague directions. After like 30 minutes of carrying heavy luggage and trying to find the hotel from the parking spot, I gave up and asked for a refund. But then I was told I maybe couldn't get a refund because I had reserved the hotel and that she had to talk to her manager. So then I figure I will carry up the luggage from the no loading zone to the hotel. I start carrying up my luggage and she is like why are you doing this, I was able to give you a refund after all. So it was very frustrating. There is a lot of construction around the area and it was super busy with shoppers, yet the hotel had no people to help and no signage. It was a very bad experience and I would never want to return there. They could hire a few people for minimum wage to assist guests to help solve the problem. The workers would be getting tips, so minimum wage is not unreasonable. Instead they just have one girl at the front desk to handle everything. It seemed that they had no interest in their guests. read more

This place has a host of small restaurants and a nice shopping mall in the area. It caught my eye first while driving past in with its bright interior. I decided to check it out on a weekend. They have a big screen outdoors for the NFL games - to have watch parties. There is a variety of food options. You can order the food online from your table by scanning the QR code. Just came back from the Bakery Square Summer Kickoff food truck Shin Dig. It was neato. I always wanted to go to one of these. They had a block of food trucks with meatballs, perogies, po boys, tacos, ice cream and cupcakes. Would liked to have seen more food trucks and more variety, but it was good. They also had a band on a grassy square. They had a small mall area that wasn't really big but had some cool stores. I had the Sriracha teriyaki meatballs, shrimp po boy, cupcakes and s'mores brownies and tacos. The food was good to ok. Parking accommodations suddenly changed, after already buying a year at the 'Signature' LA Fitness. In an insatiable quest to bring in more money, the greedy elitists of Walnut Capital show absolutely no regard to the bill of goods they've sold to their tenants and patrons. There used to be a lovely field in the middle of this eyesore of a complex, but now it's becoming another monstrosity to pad to wallets of the 1 percenters. And despite all the land they have, they have the nerve to shut down an entire lane of Penn Avenue, needlessly and drastically creating congestion. Steer clear of Bakery Square at all costs. Walnut Capital has no regard for what their doing to existing patrons or this city. read more

The parking situation is an absolute mess. They are abusive to local businesses and are a disservice to the neighborhood. Stopped in here after being ignored at Brew Dog after a dinner at Paris 66. What a great experience! Friendly staff and great drinks from the bar. I'm hoping that this place will eventually bring more life than what they do right now. I really want to like it, but it's lacking something. I think once they add the residential part across the street that it'll liven up the area even more. And with that it will probably bring some more interesting and diverse businesses to the area. I was working in the area so I stopped in Bakery Square it had a lot of nice shops plus a hotel. Also there was a LA fitness which is nice for the students of Chatham college up the road. It was a little hard to pull into because the road is really busy and not a really big parking lot but there is a parking garage a short walk. I went to the coffee bean which I thought the coffee was better than Starbucks. read more

Bakery Square or BKSQ is a new $150 million development on the site of the former Nabisco Plant in the Larimer section of the city by Walnut Capital of Shadyside. To me it's really sad how people are trying to take over and rename urban areas of the city. This area is now know as "Eastside" for East Liberty and Shadyside. As of right now there isn't to much open. On June 14, 2010 Urban Active Fitness opened a 47,000 square foot facility the first Urban Active location in Pennsylvania. Anthopologie, a women's clothing store is is open. Google Inc. is moving their CMU office to Bakery Square as well. Pottery Barn will be relocating to Bakery Square from Walnut Street in Shadyside. It will join sister store West Elm furniture. There is also a 110-room Marriott Spring Hill Suites hotel on site. Neiman Marcus is in talks of opening a mini, smaller version of one their stores on the site as well which would be the second Neiman Marcus in Pennsylvania besides the one in King of Prussia. A few restaurants are in the works as well. All in all BKSQ reminds me of a mini South Side Works. There is a large parking garage in the rear of the property as well. We'll see how it goes. read more

Free 3hr garage parking, breakfast at Panera Bread (below Springhill Suites), shopping at Anthropologie and Free People, walk to Target, Staples, Trader Joes and McDonalds, and dinner/drinks at Social. Google offices on site. It's a lovely little place to stay and hang for a weekend. A nice addition to Pittsburgh. read more

There are not really any shops, and the only happening place seems to be a coffee shop which my mother and I did not even make our way into. Bakery square was previously the nabisco Plant. Several years ago you could have dropped bomb here; no one would have cared about the forgotten residents of this community... Anyway Bakery Square is textbook example of urban renewal. Google, urban actives fitness and a quaint Little coffee shop (name escapes me) are all located here. Adequate garage parking. Street level parking is more readily available at off peak times. Weekends you'll have to compete with the horn honking mercedes, braking BMW's and the Voltswagen gti driving; skinny Jean wearing yupsters for street parking. Good luck! read more

It's lacking, but it's still a wonderful improvement to Larimer. I hope that with the Google apartments that the area will continue to grow. Larimer & Homewood need life. In the near future I hope to advance my interest in the area. We need more black people that are into urban design, renewal, & architectural landscape. When you have capital, capitalize and that's what I plan to do once I start making some money. Bakery Square is a good addition. There's so much more to Larimer now. read more

Give it some time- BS has a ton of potential. I already love my gym being here and Free People is one of my fave brands. Once they plant some more trees, and perhaps implement an outdoor seating area (they have one next to coffee tree roasters, but there is space and potential for another), it will seem more lively here. Also, there are several empty storefronts that should open soon. My vote? Sushi, a tapas/wine bar and Razzy Fresh! Oh, and maybe a hip little nail salon. Hang in there, BS! read more
