Great grab and go classic spot with some of the most consistently solid pizza in Pittsburgh! $5 a slice, line moves fast so you're in and out, and a few tables outside to quickly munch it down. It's a classic and definitely a must try if you're visiting the Strip. Pizza could have been a little crispier on the bottom, but the flavors were on point for each slice, and their pastries are the typical Italian classics, overall a nice place to stop by if you're in the area and need something quick.
When you find yourself using your fingertip to pickup and eat tiny errant pastry crumbs that fell onto your napkin, you know it's amazingly good pastry. I ate part of it before snapping the photo to show that perfectly browned edge filled with tart sweet apricot that created my Colangelo's mele addiction. The cannoli with tiny chocolate chips on the ends was decidedly addicting too. Very, very good stuff if you are lucky enough to get some before they run out.
They are busy but some pizza slices def have sat around - wait for hot new batch. Pizza was meh. The cannoli - worth the calories. Crunchy, not too sweet cream, topped with nuts - yum yum.
Stopped in on a Friday afternoon and the line moved quickly. I was looking for a treat and decided on cannoli. There weren't a lot of options in the display cases, though most of the people in front of me were ordering pizza. I got my treat and took it to go. This is a takeout restaurant. While I'm also weary of pre-filled cannoli, this one was crisp. The flavor was orangey and had a nice crunch from the pistachios.
Absolutely LOVE this place. I don't even go for the sweet baked goods (I know, horror )! But seriously...their best game is the savory food, IMHO. Their veggie beans and greens is just HEAVEN. The bit of potato, sun-dried/kissed (?) tomato, on and on. I could live on those. Their Tuscan salad with huge chunks of artichoke, roasted pepper, Kalamata olives, and I forget what cheese - with their divine homemade tomato vinaigrette---- this is everything! SO so good. The pillowy square-ish pizza slices are really good - I love the spinach feta; my hubs loves their plain tomato or margarita; my neighbors swear by their pepperoni. I got some pesto penne pasta and ate it a day later -- and that wasn't my fave. But - I bet you have to eat their pasta asap. These guys are so talented. Just do yourself a favor and grab a meal from them (you're missing SO much if you just do dessert!!) - and then sidle nextdoor thru the interior door and have some heavenly La Prima cappuccino/latte/espresso with all the other Italians enjoying a cup. You'll feel like you've dropped into a bit of Rome! There are a few inside tables at Prima; otherwise- there are tables outside or take it home! Buon appetito!
The meles are incredible, and the pizza is good too! Love getting pastries and pizza with a coffee from La Prima on the weekends.
Place gets crazy good reviews so I wanted to stop by. I came at noon on a Saturday and much of the baked goods were gone. There were some left but lots of empty cases too. I've heard how good their pizza is so I ordered a simple pepperoni slice. It was good, IMO not as good as some of reviews said, but decent. The slice was pretty greasy from all the pepperoni on it. I also got one of the small sfogliatella. It was pretty good. Next time I'll get here earlier to see what else they may have.
Run don't walk to this precious gem nestled in the heart of the strip district! The owner Nick is incredibly welcoming and the food matches the 5 star service! I got the melé (puff pastry dessert) but next time I go back I'm trying the beans and greens for sure! Cutie tables outside is perfect for a nice day
I LOVE COLANGELOS - when I worked in the strip, me and my coworkers would walk here all the time for a pick-me-up, and it never failed. If you want to find the best lady locks in all of PA, go to Colangelos. They also have amazing soups, pizza, and pizza roles. Anyone who's ever in the strip: this is a great place to go to pick up some food for home or eat it outside at their cute tables!
Best food in Pittsburgh hands down. This pizza is the most beautiful pizza you will ever eat. It's a strip district staple- I never go without getting a slice or 2, but today I ordered a whole thin crust pepperoni pie, greens and beans, and a chicken salad. I can't say enough about how the flavors in each dish just made my day. Can't wait to go back, and from now on this will be the only pizza I eat!
One of my absolute must stops in the city. I never leave without pizza AND the pesto. Never misses. Love to support small and this place has been around forever for good reason!
Pillowy pizza and delicious mele's. Walked by on a whim and gave it a try ... such a good decision. Service was quick and the staff friendly. Dream about this pizza daily.
This is the best pizza in Pittsburgh by far, whenever I go to the strip I have to come here and get this pizza, I believe the pizza is called "grandma's pizza" or something like that but you have to get it. Like it's a necessity.
I have loved this place for years! The staff is always so friendly and welcoming. The pizza is so delicious. I love the fluffy crust and the topping options they have. My favorite thing is the cannolis. Specifically the orange pistachio cannoli. It's the best cannoli I've ever had. It's so fun to grab lunch here and sit at the tables outside. read more

Stopped in for the pizza! And I was so glad I did. It was perfectly cooked and topped. A crispy outer crunch with a soft dough bite. I opted for grandmas recipe. I believe it was sliced provolone, marinara sauce then parmesan cheese on top. Absolutely delicious! I'm so happy to be finding good pizza around the city lately! I didn't snag a baked good while I was in but they all looked just as delicious as the pizza! Service was quick and friendly. No real seating inside but there are tables outside for warmer days. read more

My cousin wanted an espresso next door and the smell of the bakery/pizza sucked me in. I saw a white pizza with thinly sliced tomato's by the slice and I was sold! I got a slice. It was so light and airy. My cousin thought it used double zero flour. Place is simple. Walk in, order, they ask plate or box. Eight tiny tables outside. Putting this in my regular Pittsburgh rotation!! read more

Stopped here on a Saturday late morning while in the area trying different pizzas in the strip district. If you want anything from the bakery, getting here first thing is the best bet- as their cases were nearly empty. We ordered a couple of slices which they didn't give the option to heat up though while eating heard a different person as another customer if they did. Don't know. Not bad, just good. read more

I was in the area and had never stopped in before. I was near bye and decided to stop in at Colangelo's Bakery. The staff where very friendly and service was fast. I ordered a chocolate croissant and an almond croissant. The chocolate croissant was totally delicious. Colangelo's Bakery does not have a huge selection atleast not when I was there. The croissants where delicious and worth the visit. I would definetly go back if I was in the area. read more

A little bakery in the strip district. They offer baked goods and pizza slices. We tried their cannolis. Not the best ever but was better than most I've tried. read more
Great pizza with the best crust! This means a lot coming from me because I usually throw crust away unless it's stuffed with cheese and rubbed with butter garlic. I would literally eat a whole plate of their plain airy crispy savory crust haha. Outdoor seating right in the thick of it in the strip. I was always in a huge hurry so I just went to the phenomenal cafe attached to it instead and would only drop in to grab a delicious sweet. Now that I've had the pizza I'm kicking myself for not trying it sooner! So far I've tried 5 diff kinds of their pizza and loved them all!!! Top notch dough and ingredients. I've been here several times and the staff are always so friendly and welcoming. You feel like family. read more

I love to go this this bakery every time I am in the Strip District! They have the best flaky pastries and the prices are great! read more
The croissant breakfast sandwich, according to my friend, is all that is good in the world. The exterior tastes like a melty, buttery, crisp croissant and has a soft delicate egged center, lined with a salty capicola, firery banana pepper - all comes together for a joyous experience that is called, a croissant breakfast sandwich...."get yours". I got the Sicilian pizza - it was really good! Really light crust and tasty sauce and toppings. All in all, a must try! read more

Finally stopped at this bakery the last time I was at the Strip District. I was so glad I did. Not only do they have fresh baked goods but Italian food as well. Everything I tried was delicious especially the meatballs. The pizza, pasta and green and beans also were very good. The lady lock I got was probably the best I ever had. Service was very good. The only negative I had was that the pasta prices were a little high. Definitely going back. read more

We ordered for takeout for a baby shower over the weekend and everything was perfection. Beautiful presentation and absolutely delicious. Of the 4 flavors of mele's, Nutella was my personal favorite! And I wish I could have eaten more of the torte and cinnamon roll. Next time you are having a brunch don't waste time shopping, cooking or cleaning up your kitchen - just order from Colangelo's!! read more

Everything about this place feels like home. The comforting smell of fresh bread, the sweet women behind the counter, and the strangers chatting in line. The sandwiches come on fresh bread and with a side of pasta salad- they are my husbands go-to! read more

Okay food. I've had better, many times over. But in comparison to restaurants I've tried in the neighborhood, this was up there. I ordered the pasta e olio with tuna(full order) but I feel like I received a half order. read more
