Stopped by here on a Friday morning because again it is a must when we come to Pittsburgh. Oakmont bakery has a large selection of bakery items as well as fresh made bread, and café style dining. We ended up with four donuts with cream, two maple & bacon donuts, two vanilla and coconut cream doughnuts, and two razzleberry macaroons as well as two almond macaroons. All of the baked items are delicious and now this place is incredibly busy and finding parking can be a challenge. They have a very large extended lot just down the street but even then on a busy day like it was today it can be hard to find parking so you may have to circle a few times. read more

Coming from California, this place absolutely blew me away! The selection is top-tier, but the prices are what really shocked me--back home, a bakery of this caliber would easily cost 4x as much. We made a pitstop here while traveling through Pittsburgh. I love Burnt Almond Tortes and heard Oakmont Bakery made a good one. I definitely heard right. This is a huge bakery and it may seem overwhelming at first, but it's actually not bad. This place is packed, and they have a deli number system where you get a number and they'll call you up when it's your turn. It went faster than I thought and our counter person was very friendly. We ordered two Tortes as well as a chocolate cupcake and a maple bacon doughnut. The donut was delicious but the Burnt Almond Torte hit the spot. I get why folks are enamored about this place, as it's absolutely a site to see. But when you turn a bakery into a factory, you pump out product with low quality. For years, I have visited this business to purchase their baked goods. This review will provide information about some of my most recent experiences. About two years ago, I held a 50th wedding anniversary party for my in-laws, and from Oakmont Bakery, I purchased a half-sheet chocolate cake, a half-sheet vanilla cake, and two dozen apricot kolache cookies. The cut-off time for ordering customized cakes was only 2 days, but about 2 months before the party, I used Oakmont Bakery's website to order the two cakes. The website gave me many options for size, shape, inscription wording, and flavors of batter, filling, and icing. I easily figured out how to place the order and to choose a pickup time. On the day of pickup, my two cakes were ready on time and were handed to me in sturdy boxes. To buy the apricot kolache cookies, I took a number and waited until my number was called for purchasing and paying. At the party, my mom-in-law said that she enjoyed the chocolate cake, so I later ordered Oakmont Bakery's chocolate cake for her birthday. I do not usually like chocolate cakes, but I ate one piece of Oakmont Bakery's chocolate cake and enjoyed every bite of it. I also liked the flavors of the vanilla cake and the apricot kolache. Most recently, in 2025, my husband and I shopped here for baked goods. I rate the fruit tart as 4.5 stars, the the peanut-butter-fudge dulce as 5 stars (wonderfully rich!), the cherry danish as 4.5 stars, the the cheese danish as 4 stars, and the bunkerhill roll (like a cinnamon roll with no icing) as 4.5 stars. read more

Other than the cafe area, my favorite baked item is probably the dolces. They are a great way to try new flavors without the commitment of an entire cake. We got an almond dolce to take home with use. We went on a Saturday morning which is definitely one of the busiest times. The Costco of bakeries? I'd been driving by this bakery for several years before I finally decided I really needed to take a closer look, despite the fact that my friends in the area told me not to bother with their breads. They are obviously a local institution, and the baked goods seem, on the whole, to be good quality. The sheer number of options here is pretty stunning, to the point of being overwhelming. We thought we were coming in for donuts, but in the end I settled on an apple dumpling because where else can you get a true apple dumpling? (And the apple dumpling is pretty good -- but if I get it again, I'll definitely want to eat it with a small scoop of ice cream.) I'm less enthusiastic about the overall ambiance. Oakmont Bakery feels a little like ordering sweets at your airport gate counter. The cacophany of sounds, the robotic ticket announcements, the bevy of screens, the sleek, sterile walls, and the bustling crowd all add up to an atmosphere that's not exactly cozy. Admittedly, it's very well staffed and they seem to be very efficient about getting your order down and getting it right. But I think that efficiency comes at a cost. If there's a sweet you really want, you can probably buy it here.
