These are the best donuts in town! Giant Eagle could never. Dunkin' could never. And dare I say it, Publix could never . The donuts are always fresh, made with real ingredients, and cost effective. My husband grew up in Homewood and has raved about Dana's since we've been together, so I decided (years later, which I know greatly regret) to check it out. I found myself wide awake last Thursday at 5:30 AM, so I decided to drive over to Dana's for some donuts and cookies before work. He opens at 6 AM every morning (except Sunday when they are closed). I got there around 6:15 and I was the only person in there. He has so many varieties of donuts to choose from. You have to try a pretzel donut when you go though- it's one of his signatures. I got a half dozen of donuts and a half dozen of cookies for myself and I delivered a half dozen of donuts and a half dozen of cookies for my friend too! So a dozen of donuts and a dozen of cookies for under $13 total! Everything was delicious! Fast forward to last Saturday. I called my mom and raved about Dana's so I met up with her last Saturday at 6:30 AM and we went to Dana's so she could get some donuts. We came here early on a sat and there was plenty of street parking around. I was impressed by their selection of donuts. We got a dozen and they were all really yummy. My favorite was the apple filled donut. There was a person before us and someone came in after we left. Even though the bakery was pretty small, we felt very comfortable when we were inside. It's Saturday morning and I'm biking around the area at Open Streets Pittsburgh. I see a bakery. BREAKS! Park the bike and hop in line to see what I can find. It's a no frills kind of place, but the display speaks for itself. I'm looking at the cupcakes, cookies, donuts, oh my! The lady ahead of me orders a chocolate chip cookie. It looks good, but those yeast donuts are so tempting. Intrigued by the top shelf, I ask the gentleman working what was the topping. "Crumbles," he says. I'll take that. At 75 cents, I'm a happy camper. I hang outside and eat the tasty yeast goodness and found it to be satisfying, not greasy and quite flaky like a yeast donut ought to be. The crumble topping was definitely unique. Love the concept and there was some dried fruit with the crumble top that added to the donut. So good! read more

You know it's gotta be good when people are coming in and out in the early morning! So glad I came out to this little hidden gem nestled in Homewood. Staff is very friendly and helpful with selections. As soon as you walk in the smell is just amazing.. will make your mouth water with the sweetness. I got a variety of doughnuts and cookies. So far I've only tried the cinnamon bun doughnut which I only intended to eat a few bites of... because yanno, trying to be healthy.. but oh my gosh I couldn't stop at one! This may be one of the best bakery doughnuts I've ever had. Have not tried the cookies yet (... although sooooo tempting) but I can't wait to try the thumbprints and that peanut butter with chocolate icing. Will definitely be stopping back here again! Our Dean pre-orders 50-plus donuts for our faculty and staff meeting. It's no lie to say these donuts are a) the best donuts we ever ate and b) the most tempting reason to attend the meeting in person. Dana bakery is a Pittsburgh classic and still pumping out delicious treats for everyone during the pandemic. It's definitely a hidden gem that is still a well kept secret but they do still sell out almost every day. You can get the best sweet potato pie or turnover style pastry. There treats are cheap and cash preferred unless you spend five bucks. Parking is available around the bend from the store for free and the building is easy to miss so definitely keep your eyes open. If you haven't tried this bakery yet I highly encourage you to get out and do so soon and arrive early to make sure you get a slice of that delicious sweet potato pie goodness!!!! I've been to Dana's Bakery a few times now, and it has earned a spot on my list of bakeries to stop at before work to bring in some tasty donuts for my co-workers. It's a small, old-fashioned bakery with an abundance of donuts, cookies, cupcakes, and other pastries. A dozen donuts can be obtained for around seven bucks, which is a bargain in my book. Their donuts can be a little greasy, but tend to be light and airy, and not overly sweet (aside from the cinnamon roll). On my latest visit, I had an old-fashioned cake donut (good) and a frosted glazed (very good). I grabbed some vanilla cupcakes as bonus treat, and was extremely pleased. The cake is light, they have just the right amount of icing, and have an interesting hint of lemon. Even better, they are only $0.65. Honestly, this price makes me angry... angry that I have paid way more at other bakeries for vastly inferior cupcakes. I'll take a traditional cupcake from Dana's any day over some fancy cupcake with funky icing for five times the price. It's easy to park on the street by the bakery, run in, grab what you need, and get going. Every employee I've encountered has been friendly and helpful, too. If you're in the area, or passing through, stop by. If you like old-fashioned bakeries, you won't be disappointed. read more

Delightful. The pretzel donuts are huge and twisty and have more flavor and texture than dunkin can offer. The maple cinnamon rolls are old school and giant. They have sweet potato turnovers and hello... cake by the slice- almost impossible to find in Pgh. . (75 donuts and .30 cookies. The cookies are not artisan style but rather what you get on a platter at a pot luck- nostalgic.) There is a huge shortage of decent donut joints in Pittsburgh, so go out of your way if you must to stop at Dana's. The service is incredibly friendly, the prices are ridiculously good, they use careful Covid precautions and they'll throw in two more donuts from your 9.00 dozen for just a buck more. We were holding a community event for the 100th Anniversary of Westinghouse Park and I called Joe at Dana's to order a huge cake and have it decorated. The sheet cake was half chocolate and half lemon yellow and it was all delicious. Dan's Bakery hand iced a beautiful Westinghouse W decoration on the cake with a Happy Anniversary message. It was perfect and was so big that everyone (about 60 people) who attended got to have some and their were plenty of left overs that people quickly asked to take home. Dana's even lent us a cake server. Dana's is a special place. Yum! read more

When I lived in Point Breeze I used to go straight from my workout at LA Fitness to Danas to get my donut fill on Saturdays. The donuts are pretty cheap, fresh (to my knowledge) and really delicious. I decided to try out Dana's Bakery because my daughter told me that it was Doughnut Day. I got there early and stocked up on a dozen doughnuts. They were AMAZING! The maple doughnuts are glazed and then iced, which is double the deliciousness, and my daughters gushed over the rainbow sprinkle doughnuts. Went in on a snowy snowy Saturday, after biking past and thinking, "I have no business biking past a friendly neighborhood bakery without stopping in." Made the right choice! The man behind the counter (Dana? not sure) was super friendly and we had a great chat. The sign says doughnuts cost $7.80 a dozen, if memory serves, but he told me that since it was snowing heavily and he didn't expect many more customers for the day, I could have a dozen of whatever I wanted for $6. I picked out a selection and they were all delicious! (N.b. I did not eat all of them. But I sampled a bunch.) The baked goods: wide variety of sweet things. Doughnuts, danishes, literally the biggest cinnamon rolls I've ever seen, cookies, muffins. All baked fresh that morning, I was told. While I was there a guy walked in and talked with me and the baker briefly, then left, and came back to chat more, then left and came back a third time, bearing pictures of the first African American employees at Westinghouse, as well as some early African American veterans. From my brief visit I could see this place is a neighborhood joint, which is awesome. Stop by some time. I don't think you'll be disappointed. read more

Hubby ordered me macaroons for Valentines Day. I was not aware of this. I came home to find the package delivered and sitting on the front porch. I saw perishable on package. I brought in and they were completely defrosted. I proceeded to eat 2 anyway. Yummy! Then I put the rest in the freezer hoping they would be ok after refreezing. I think their ok. Just crumbly. Anyway, my suggesting is if you know when delivery is be sure to watch for package as they Do Not pack on dry ice so they defrost pretty quick. read more
