The only reason I was at this mall is because it's where the kiosk is located to buy tickets for the Pittsburgh tour bus, otherwise it's unlikely I would have come here at all as a tourist in Pittsburgh! It's not a shopping mall in the traditional American sense, cause it's more like a series of 1-storey buildings with tons of shops. The one standout building was this 1920s Art Deco place that is now a cinema theater. The stores themselves are an interesting mix. I saw a lot of chain stores mixed in with high end brands. In the middle of it all was a great green space with kids playing in the water feature and this space also had benches for seating options. It wasn't that busy with cars so that was good however the one disadvantage would be that there weren't public restrooms - I was advised to go to a local eatery which made me feel guilty and I ended up getting coffee I didn't want, just because I needed to use the loo!! Hence the 3 stars - public facilities for bathrooms definitely need to be sorted out! Note: #334 of Yelp 100 challenge for 2016

This review is mostly for the Claire's and the Cheesecake Factory in the South Side Works. Claire's: This is an intimate and modest Claire's, but kind of charming. It doesn't have quite the selection of a mall based Claire's store, but it also doesn't feel mega cluttered when you walk in. The staff on my 2 visits in here were pleasant, not over-bearing or particularly concerned whether or not I was going to buy things, which is refreshing. I like this store far better than the mall locations. I feel like I can walk around looking at cheap cutesy jewelry without being stared at by a hoarde of 13-year-old girls. The Cheesecake Factory: It's a nice location, and it kind of feels like a palace inside. I've had very nice waitresses here and kind of neglectful, rude waitresses here; it all depends on when you go. Obviously going during peak hours means waitresses are going to be a bit over-loaded. the food is always on point though, which is the most important part!

While I have found parking at times on Carson I usually end up just going to one of the parking lots named after something to do with steel making and I never forget to "take my ticket with me". This is a cool outdoor kind of shopping place not in the traditional sense like Waterfront but more of a community type residential/office/shopping/eating sort of community not far from the Carson Southside area in fact I guess it is incorporated into it sort of. Forgive me and my ignorance of all things Pittsburgh since I'm not a resident, just a fan that loves going to Pittsburgh because it is a very wonderful place to visit and enjoy the many things that make this city and Southside works is one of those places. There are big stores here like H&M, Forever21, and smaller stores like Sur La Table and Puma. To me it seems like the place really centers around the Cheesecake Factory being in the middle by the square it sort of stands out. I usually stop in to Caribou to pick up coffee for my friend as well. I've always wanted to go to Hofbrauhaus only because I'm very interested in the beer. There's a lot of places to eat here from fast food to places to drink too. I usually visit the Works when in town because it's a nice place.

As of the time of this review, options for foods and drinks include a Giant Eagle grocery store, a Fine Wine & Good Spirits, and about 20 restaurants (e.g., Burgatory, Chick-fil-A, Chipotle, Crazy Mason, Eat 'n Park, Jimmy John's, Longhorn, Storming Crab, and Yokoso). I enjoy many of the restaurants. Retail stores present a good number of options for clothing (e.g., Dick's Sporting Goods, LOFT, and Rally House), footwear (e.g., DSW and Shoe Fly), home goods (e.g., Costco, Lowe's, Michael's, Mattress Firm, and Petco), and health and beauty products (e.g., Bath & Body Works, GNC, and Ulta). Current entertainment includes AMC movie theater, Barnes & Noble bookstore, Dave & Buster's, Improv comedy club, Paint Monkey, and Urban Air Adventure Park. Other current businesses are a few banks, a few hotels, some cell-phone stores, a gym, and healthcare providers (e.g., dental and vision). As you can see, this shopping center has numerous options for different types of customers to eat a meal, go shopping, and be entertained. This shopping center does not contain all of my favorite stores, but I like it more than most other shopping centers in the Pittsburgh area. I even have a friend who drives two hours one-way to shop here.

It is a cool trendy place and I had fun walking around and taking it all in. I looked it up and it sits on the old U.S. Steel's Homestead Steel Works plant and there are some smokestacks and other artistic elements still visible. I grabbed a coffee at Starbucks, shopped at Ultra Beauty, Target, and at Lunch Mexican restaurant. Would recommend the area.

For many years my husband and I have visited Squirrel Hill, mostly to shop and dine. We always park our vehicle in a garage. We recommend putting a bit more money into the parking meter than you expect to need, because we have seen a police officer writing many parking tickets for vehicles in that garage. Most recently, my husband and I did a self-designed food tour in several restaurants on Murray Avenue and Forbes Avenue. We ate at T-Swirl Crepe, Waffallonia, Amazing Dumplings, Commonplace Coffee, and Hidden Harbor. We also shopped in Panda Supermarket, Chocolate Moose, and Ebisu and spent time in the Carnegie Library. Previously we enjoyed eating at Kiin Lao & Thai Eatery, Ramen Bar, Kyo Matcha, Mango Mango, etcetera. We always appreciate how the business district has a diverse population and international cuisine, is very walkable, and feels safe.

It's because my theme is a progressive dinner style around Asian restaurants. I saw a lot of storefronts on Forbes that were covered with coming soon building wraps. They were all Asian restaurants. That's a good sign. For sure, it's a progress with economic prosperity in this neighborhood. I stayed at an Airbnb with walking distance to the center of the attention. My only gripe was that not many restaurants open on Sunday morning. But I enjoyed my morning stroll alone to witness the fall colors. That's a bonus on this trip. I could never see this sight in Houston Texas, where I'm from.
