An amazing variety of things to do and places to dine! Miniature golfing, VR arcade, bookshop, food hall, brewing company, coffee shop, plant shop... they have it all! It's a very popular little area and usually crowded, but it is always still a good time!

The Strip District Terminal is a new building that as of September 2022 contains about a dozen businesses and expects several more businesses to open soon. Current businesses include City Grows (an organic garden and gift shop), Envy Premier Nail Spa, Fine Wine & Good Spirits, Odd Fellows Ice Cream Co., OnPar Now (female-focused golf instruction), Pip & Lola's Soaps & Sundries, Posman Books, [solidcore] (fitness classes), StretchLab (stretching sessions), Walk Run Lift Studio (full-body workouts), and the McCaffery management office. Business that will soon open include Asian Cuisine Food Hall, Aslin Beer Co., Chipotle, City Winery, Hieber's Pharmacy, Mayweather Boxing + Fitness, Puttshack (mini golf), and the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission (a planning group for multiple counties). Several storefronts remain vacant, and I hope that they are filled soon by tenants. I feel very excited to see the revitalization of the Strip District area.

We went to the Terminal to check out the Market. Not only did we enjoy the vendors but also the new retail locations and the whole vibe on a Saturday was one not to miss. So if you are looking for some special juice, special dumplings, a little golf or handmade soaps and lotions come on down to the Terminal next weekend.

Actually looking for a bathroom and thought we would see something of interest in the terminal. This is the Pennsylvania railroad production and sales building that was here for decades with murals and colorful places to sit. It looks like they are trying to rent retail spaces. There was a beautiful plant shop, golf shop and a nail salon. Perhaps the next time we come to Pittsburgh this will be a happening.

In my last review of the Strip District Terminal, which was written in August of last year (2021), I gave this place three stars, and said there was a lot of potential here, and in the fourteen+ months since, some of that potential has been realized, so I am adding one more star in this updated review. While there are still some empty storefronts here, some of them have been filled, or are in the process of becoming filled. Most notably, Pip & Lola's has indeed opened (as I foretold in my previous review (and is locally owned by a couple that live here in Pittsburgh)), along with Posman Books (and Odd Fellows Ice Cream, which shares the same space). A sandwich shop (Primo Hoagies) has also opened, and a Chipotle Mexican Grill is just days away from opening. It also appears that a boxing gym is coming. as well as a pharmacy, a brewery, a winery, and possibly a few other places that I missed are now open or in the process of opening. It is definitely more of a destination now than it was a year ago . . . Cheers!

As of the time of this review, options for foods and drinks include a Giant Eagle grocery store, a Fine Wine & Good Spirits, and about 20 restaurants (e.g., Burgatory, Chick-fil-A, Chipotle, Crazy Mason, Eat 'n Park, Jimmy John's, Longhorn, Storming Crab, and Yokoso). I enjoy many of the restaurants. Retail stores present a good number of options for clothing (e.g., Dick's Sporting Goods, LOFT, and Rally House), footwear (e.g., DSW and Shoe Fly), home goods (e.g., Costco, Lowe's, Michael's, Mattress Firm, and Petco), and health and beauty products (e.g., Bath & Body Works, GNC, and Ulta). Current entertainment includes AMC movie theater, Barnes & Noble bookstore, Dave & Buster's, Improv comedy club, Paint Monkey, and Urban Air Adventure Park. Other current businesses are a few banks, a few hotels, some cell-phone stores, a gym, and healthcare providers (e.g., dental and vision). As you can see, this shopping center has numerous options for different types of customers to eat a meal, go shopping, and be entertained. This shopping center does not contain all of my favorite stores, but I like it more than most other shopping centers in the Pittsburgh area. I even have a friend who drives two hours one-way to shop here.

For many years my husband and I have visited Squirrel Hill, mostly to shop and dine. We always park our vehicle in a garage. We recommend putting a bit more money into the parking meter than you expect to need, because we have seen a police officer writing many parking tickets for vehicles in that garage. Most recently, my husband and I did a self-designed food tour in several restaurants on Murray Avenue and Forbes Avenue. We ate at T-Swirl Crepe, Waffallonia, Amazing Dumplings, Commonplace Coffee, and Hidden Harbor. We also shopped in Panda Supermarket, Chocolate Moose, and Ebisu and spent time in the Carnegie Library. Previously we enjoyed eating at Kiin Lao & Thai Eatery, Ramen Bar, Kyo Matcha, Mango Mango, etcetera. We always appreciate how the business district has a diverse population and international cuisine, is very walkable, and feels safe.

It's because my theme is a progressive dinner style around Asian restaurants. I saw a lot of storefronts on Forbes that were covered with coming soon building wraps. They were all Asian restaurants. That's a good sign. For sure, it's a progress with economic prosperity in this neighborhood. I stayed at an Airbnb with walking distance to the center of the attention. My only gripe was that not many restaurants open on Sunday morning. But I enjoyed my morning stroll alone to witness the fall colors. That's a bonus on this trip. I could never see this sight in Houston Texas, where I'm from.

Their employees never asked for my birthday when setting up my profile, which meant I never received the birthday gift cards they advertise. When I contacted the store to correct it and asked for the past year's missed offer, the owner (Tom Michael) refused, even though the mistake was caused by their own staff. Instead of honoring the gift card I should have received, I was only offered a donation made "in my name" to a charity. While that may sound generous, it doesn't solve the original problem, and it left me feeling like the store wasn't willing to take responsibility for their own oversight. It was a very small request and could have been resolved easily with good customer service, but it wasn't. Based on this experience, I wouldn't recommend shopping here or trying to resolve any issues directly with the owner. There are plenty of other stores that value their customers and stand behind their promotions.

I forgot how full-price it was... it's almost as if it's more than what the brand itself costs. One doesn't see that these days... The selection here is decent for a store of its size, if not a little rando. It feels somewhat curated but there's enough variety of brands to choose from to make the visit worth it for that... The issue was the service. We walked in and were almost immediately accosted by a salesman: Salesperson: "Hi welcome in, can I help you find something? What brings you in?" Me: "No thanks, just here to browse..." S: "OK what brings you to town? Business or visiting family?" Me: "Just on a quick trip thanks, we'll look over here" S: "What kind of business are you in?" Me: "Different things..." S: "So are you here for meetings?"... And so on--the guy literally followed us closely as we made our way from one end of the store to another. He stopped when I was looking at something, at which point another salesperson came up and asked the same salvo of questions Guy number one came back and started up again "so are you staying nearby?..." We were literally chased out of the store by its salespeople. Here's a better script for them: "Salesperson: Hi, my name is X, welcome to Larrimor's" Me: "No thanks, just here to browse..." "Salesperson: sounds good, just let me know if I can help you find anything" Hounding customers and charging more than the designers themselves is not a great way to do business these days, but I'm keeping four stars out of respect for a longtime Pittsburgh institution. Maybe next time I can look around in peace!
