Been buying donuts, for personal and business, here for many years. I generally love their cake donuts. I grew up on jelly filled donuts so I tried one from Bakery Plus today...I was eating it w/ my coffee on a nice, relaxing Saturday driving kids around. Unfortunately, it is horrible. I was nearly halfway through it before I thought "maybe they forgot to fill this one". No, no, they "filled" it BUT put as little spiced apple in the center as is humanly possible. In fact, it wld have been easier to put more in than the amount they injected. I'm actually impressed with how little apple filling they were able to not put in this donut. Nice people, and you'll get a good donut from time to time, but the place is going downhill. Chalk it up to inflation or whatever. I'm sure they have excuses. Bakery Plus ruined my Saturday drive. Their cinnamon donuts have less and less cinnamon it seems; their old fashions are soft and fall apart and are generally less and less appealing. And since the ownership turnover their breakfast sandwiches have never been close to what they once were. I'm happy to edit this review if I get a response that addresses what the heck is causing the inconsistency and decline because some of us are noticing. Bakery Plus is a free standing vintage looking business. The employee working the counter was very hospitable and was eager to serve. He is definitely an asset to the company. The inside of the restaurant was dated and came across as not very clean. It may have been clean but after time old dark flooring and furniture starts to look really dingy and unkept. I didn't love the donuts. They were very basic to me and not the quality that some of the reviews suggested. The chocolate cake donut had good flavor but it required a sip of coffee because it was so dry. It did not appear or taste fresh. The glaze on the top of the donut was so dry that it was flaking off. The apple fritter had lots of potential. There were big apple chucks and a nice balance of flavors but unfortunately it was also stale tasting. So like had no clue that another Doughnut joint existed that offered a Maple Doughnut with crumbles of bacon infused. A deadly combination but so worthy! Also this place offers an incredible diverse amount of doughnuts which range from Oreo cookies, Nutella, Chocolate Coconut, and Fruity Pebbles. Need I say more. One of Orlando's best spots! I have been going to bakery plus for most of my life! This place has never disappointed me. Awesome coffee, bagels, donuts, you name it it's bomb! My favorite is the egg bacon & cheese on a everything bagel. It tastes so fresh it's to die for. I've also tried it on a croissant as well which is equally as delicious. My boyfriend and I came here last week which he had to order another sandwich because it was just "that good!" The employees always greet you with a smile and have excellent customer service. My biggest complaint was how they did their filled donuts - they cut the donut in half and added the filling instead of injecting the filling through a hole. We went around noon on a Saturday and they had sold out of a lot, so our options were pretty limited. We tried the doughnut holes and an iced yeast doughnut. The glaze and icing on the doughnuts were too sugary for our taste, and the doughnuts themselves didn't seem incredibly fresh and were kind of on the heavy side. This place was packed so it is obviously very popular. Different people like different doughnuts and these just weren't my fave! I would probably come back for a breakfast sandwich though. Really wanted doughnuts late on a Friday night, and saw reviews for Bakery plus on yelp. I knew a mom and pop like this wouldn't be open at 1 AM, so we put it off for Saturday morning. Saturday comes around, and I drag the hubs out of bed on a quest for my unfulfilled doughnut desire. We arrived at around 11:30 AM, and find some slim pickins in the doughnut case. We both ordered breakfast sandwiches Bacon-egg-cheese & Ham-egg-cheese on an everything bagel (both were 2.49$), a box of 6 doughnuts, and an apple juice to go. Our total came out to a whopping $11.43. Not too bad for Saturday morning breakfast. As for the food..."ERMERGERD." Is the only way to describe it. The bagels were unlike a NY style bagel which are chewy and are boiled before they are baked. These guys had the consistency of soft doughy dinner rolls. And the fillings were cooked to order in the back...freshly fried egg (well done/over easy), grilled ham slices, and melty American Cheese...yum. And as for the doughnuts....they were just as amazing. I tried a blueberry cake doughnut which was amazing and literally tasted like a moist pound cake dotted with blueberries and dipped in an awesome glaze. I also tried the Bavarian cream filled doughnut which tasted like a sweet soft bread filled with pastry cream and topped with tons of powdered sugar...yum! And finally the peanut cake doughnut. This was the plainest of the doughnuts I tried...still really good, but this is the sort of doughnut you dunk in some coffee or hot chocolate. It was a plain cake doughnut, with some chocolate frosting on the top, and some crushed peanuts sprinkled on top. Overall, I really love this place, and can't imagine eating Dunkin Donuts again after this life altering experience. The only downside is that they open at 6 AM on weekdays, and at 6:30 on Saturdays, and I have a feeling if you're not there at that time you're missing out on the other flavors of doughnuts/bagels, and the croissants I didn't get to try on my visit because they had already sold out! I went there for the first time today, and I was very pleasantly surprised. I was immediately greeted by a very friendly person behind the counter. First off, I loved the vibe of the inside. It reminded me of one of the numerous coffee/donut places in Los Angeles. It had the old booth's and bar stools like you would see, almost straight out of Pulp Fiction. By the time I got there, most of the donut selection was depleted, but there was still enough variety for me to choose three different kinds for my family. I can report that the donuts are great. I need to come back soon to try their bagels (still in search of a good bagel that can come close to a New York one). The only thing fully preventing this from being a Five Star Review is they had a lot of visible clutter in the back corner near where the bar stools were. If they could clean that up and maybe do some theming in the back, maybe add some "work space" for people that use their laptops, it would really make the whole experience 5 Star. The bagels are a bit different from what you might expect - softer and more like a roll, still delicious and also great for hamburger buns. They aren't what you expect if you're used to Einstein's or Panera but they are like a piece of delicious homemade bread had a baby with a yeast roll--soft, pulls apart easily, and is great toasted with butter and/or cream cheese. Their lunches are a great value too. About $5 buys a sandwich (tuna salad, chicken salad, turkey, ham, etc--nothing fancy and served on bread with lots of mayonnaise), chips, a drink, and a donut. I love supporting local businesses and the same people have owned and worked at this place since before I was in high school. My son and I went there today for a donut and $4.80 got us one with chocolate sprinkle, one glazed, a medium coffee, milk, and they threw two donut holes in the bag just because. We stopped by here on the way home from a weekend in Orlando. My husband found on YELP and the great reviews it got so we just had to try. They are located on the outskirts of downtown Orlando. The donuts were wonderful. We got a 1/2 dozen, I have to say the sour cream donuts were some of the best I've had. I also enjoyed their Apple Fritter. Crispy on the outside but not too doughy or thick on the inside. They also have a lot of cream filled ones which were just as good. A 1/2 dozen of donuts and apple fritter was a little of $5 which is very inexpensive. They also have bagels so look forward to trying next time as a breakfast sandwich. I've been going here for like the last 15 years or so, the business has changed hands to family but it's just not what it used to be. The made to order food was, is and probably always will be incredible. But the donuts have just gone down hill ever since Sam went back home. They never seem to actually be fresh anymore.
