I stopped here for lunch after flying into New Bern on a Thursday afternoon. There was about a 5 minute wait for a table for one and based on what I've read, waiting here is not unusual. I was seated and quickly greeted by a friendly waitress who took my order. I opted for the meatlovers omelet with wheat toast and because I was eyeing up the food of the customer next to me, a side of sweet potato fries. The omelet was delicious! Very thin egg layers which was actually nice and super heavy on the meat which was OK by me! The fries were so so good, especially with the butter syrup to dip them in. My only slight complaint was the toast was under toasted and needed more butter. But that wasn't enough to dock a star from this meal. The prices were reasonable, the service was spot on, the place was clean, and everyone was friendly. If you are looking for a local family friendly location to eat between 7-2, this is it! read more

I visited Baker's kitchen for breakfast around 9:45 AM, it was my first time . I was put on a waiting list and I was sat within 10 minutes of waiting. Once I got seated I got a server who was very assertive & nasty to me. Her disposition was off and when I asked questions, I felt like it was a "problem" or a burden from her reaction to simply do her job and answer them to the best of her ability. Once the order was place it took less than 15 minutes for the food to come out which threw me off completely, just for the eggs to look like they have been fried in some grease instead of scrambled , the bacon was hard as HELL and tasted disgusting and the only decent thing was the cinnamon toast crunch pancake, which after a while was soggy as FUCK . I couldn't even tell you the servers name because she didn't give it to me, NEVER GO highly do not recommend. read more

We arrived when they opened at 7:00. Margaret was our server and was so pleasant! The atmosphere was comfortable and had a country feel to it. It is spacious inside. My coffee was piping hot and very good. Breakfast choices were plentiful. I ordered the Farmers Wife. It was a wonderful meal! Don't bother with checking in online. We checked in online and the waited inside for two hours to be seated before we were informed that even though we had checked in online we still needed to have the hostess add our name to the list when we walked in. There is no signs posted stating this and when you check in online it stays "You are all checked in". This negates the point of checking in online and has never been a thing any other time we have ate here. We normally check in online walk in have our name called and be seated. We have been eating at bakers for years and this is a first. But just a word of caution if you plan on checking in online. read more

Was in New Bern recently and looked up breakfast places on Yelp, yes I use Yelp when visiting new places, and came across Baker's Kitchen. It is located in the historic area a couple blocks up from the waterfront. We were able to park a couple of stores down on the street for free and I went in to get some baked goods for the ride home. It was just past 2:00 and they close at 2, but were happy to let me get some to go things. Now it is not often that I see something new at a bakery and yet it happened here, a cornbread cookie. Never seen one never heard of one before so I had to get one and both the Mrs. and myself were happy I did. Delicious as well as the other things we bought. Not much has changed since my last review, this is still our family's favorite place to go for a traditional breakfast, brunch, or lunch in the New Bern area. All the baked goods are very fresh as you'd expect being that they are made fresh daily right on premises. The food is home cooked and inviting. The smells alone are enough to pull you in. Do expect a short wait on most weekends for sure. This time I went outside the box for what this places serves because I was craving some fried seafood. Well, just so happens they do that pretty well. Though my portion wasn't some massive thing, I definitely left satisfied by the very plump and perfectly breaded shrimp. The squash casserole and cole slaw that I chose for sides were also very tasty. The slaw was not mayo heavy, just how I like it. A great spot in New Bern for breakfast or lunch! I arrived very close to closing time at 2pm, they were no longer taking any table parties. I ordered to go, then I mentioned I was an hour from where I'd end up eating. They quickly offered a table and I was able to eat my fresh delicious meal. I had the southern hamburger plate.
