Baker's Kitchen is located downtown New Bern and what a pleasant surprise. We went for breakfast. Their biscuits and gravy are awesome. And, I am picky with biscuits and gravy. Eggs are cooked as ordered. Husband had omelette and there were no complaints. The staff is very aware of COVID-19 requirements. Seating is spaced and we observed them sanitizing tables AND chairs. The town of New Bern is a beautiful place to visit. It is, however, a little low on breakfast joints. But, with Baker's Kitchen there, you may not need any other place. Firstly, it is located in a beautiful old building built in 1924. Hats off to preserving history and using these elegant structures! We were seated upstairs and both ordered the veggie omelet with home fries and biscuits. We waited hungrily and waited even more hungrily....our order was taking forever. But, here came our lovely server, apologizing for the delay and giving us a plate of cinnamon rolls. My husband, with his big sweet tooth, was over the moon about this. Our meals did arrive and everything was simply scrumptious! Those biscuits were bigger than my fist and the omelette and potatoes were generously plated....no way I could eat all that. Good service, always busy so go early or be prepared to wait an hour. Definitely worth it though. Could get a little pricey. Definitely check out their baked good out in the front. read more

I don't post on Yelp often so if I'm posting, it was life changing. I genuinely enjoyed everything I ordered. My sister and I got a the vegetable plate and the farmers wife. It was our first visit and we wanted to try a little bit of everything. The green beans, mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese, and corn fritters were great. Not a single complaint. The farmer wife had options and we went with the pancake, sausage patty and scrambled eggs. Again, everything was great and there wasn't a single complaint. I understand why they sell the butter syrup by the bottle. I am currently still sitting in the restaurant writing this because I was so happy I just couldn't leave without leaving a good review. My family went in to Bakers Kitchen on Black Friday for breakfast. After eating and while waiting for the check my mom and I got up to use the restroom. The kitchen has a window near where you wait to use the restroom and while we were standing there we saw the chef using his bare hands to put food on the plates. Then to top it all off he wiped his hands on his food smeared apron and continued picking up food with his hands!! (Mind you this was during the Covid pandemic!!!) My mom immediately requested to see someone in charge and began to explain what we had seen. Although we were being very polite and did not ask for anything but that he stop, she gave us an attitude and told us that if we did not want to come back then that was our problem!!! I will never eat here again and vehemently discourage my friends from ever eating there again as well. read more

The French toast is made with their homemade bread which is amazing they also make a butter syrup which is to die for. I'm very picky about my coffee and theirs is smooth and just the right strength every time. My husband has done the sausage gravy and biscuits which was good, however don't salt till you taste as he over salted his. He has also done the BLT which he said was very good. My mother and I saw one of the cooks in the kitchen making pancakes with his bare and very dirty hands. His hair was very long and greasy and wasn't in a net; he kept touching his hair and then touching the food. When he saw us he put on some gloves but... still.
